"Free" being relative. You do realize you're paying for that with the frankly outrageous prices Vodafone asks for their subscriptions...
@ShadowLea
I pay 44 euro a month for unlimited calls and text with 2GB data. It's not that bad? At least not compared to T-Mobile or KPN IMHO

If you compare it to the standard subscriptions of other providers, then yes, not bad at all. However, those two also had a release special, and that is what you should compare...
You don't compare AH bonus to Jumbo standard prices either, do you?
I know the T-Mobile one was 50% off for 2 years with 10GB and unlimited phone/text + free phone + 8GB MicroSD. Which came down to €39.50 p/maand. (I included the screenshot from samsung.com/nl/bluecarpet, if you enter that url and stop it quickly you can still see it.)
So ask yourself how much you're actually paying extra for the Fit knowing that...
You did have to stand in a queue for 4.5 hours to get it, though.
Guess you're right on that, but you can imagine how much profit KPN, T-Mobile and Vodafone make, if you compare it to there normal subscriptions. btw I only buy plof chicken @ jumbo groetjes

I'm getting 12GB 4G ( 50/10 mbit ) on KPN, and not the faboulous T-Mobile, and the same 64kb afterwards for 46€/m, AND another 10€ discount on my TV package @home ( so in net. payment i'm paying 36€ )
Free Spotify Premium ( another 10€ ) with no data useage in the 12GB
Also after these 2 years i'm not paying more ( double )
Whilst it is e reasonable deal ( TMob ) the network isn't yet fully available, and quite a bit slower.
sometimes things can be better, while paying a bit more

Of course KPN has a better network, since the government gave them 1.8 billion euro and the 4g licenses for free to set it up in january 2010...
Where everyone else had to spend 1.2 billion each just to buy those licenses, which they weren't allowed to do untill december 2012... And then another 1.5 billion network construction costs....
You simply can't compare that. It's like saying the government build A1 is better than the driveway you had to pay for the licenses they stonewalled you on for two years, and double the price to build it.
And suddenly it becomes clear why the government is so against selling KPN to a mexican company...
And then they still have the guts to charge you extra for LTE. Which is still just LTE, and not LTE-A 4G. (Do people really still fall for the 'LTE=4G' bullsh*t? )
I'm all for full coverage and paying a bit extra for that.
But not if it's done in such a blatantly corrupt manner. I do have some principles (not many, but some).

For real, and you have the real documentation to back this up ?
And not some conspiracy website, who's main course of reporting is "everyone who make's soms profit is evil" bashing ...
I'm not in the market for defending any provider, I just look out for my interest, and pay for what I want.
I've been using Vodafone for the last 8 years, and quite happy, but their coverage is sub standard in my hometown.
Tmobile has almost the same problem ( blackout's and minimal reception indoors )
So for my ney contract was KPN ( Hi ) my best option.
Paying 46€ /m x 24 = 1104 €
12GB ( 6GB doubled because of triple play with home contract )
Retail S5 ( april '14 ) 649€
Free Spotify / Free KPN tv extra 24x 20€ = 480€
( I'm not adding the benefits of my wife's contract [monthly 10€ discount] )
Try finding a cheaper contract, by adding these numbers.
The only issue one could have, is the monthly based payment against buying your own device.
( but with the higher ranged phone's ( +600€ ) sometimes a contract is cheaper then Sim-only )
I don't like to spend 649€ at once, because of the pricedrops.
Rogers in Canada has a promotion for April where you get the Gear 2 Neo for $50 when signing a new contract with the S5.
Not free, but it's a pretty nice deal.

The reason they don't need to be on the networks system is, the phone supplied through p4u, cpw, etc are often SIM free. So effectively your network contract might as well be SIM only. All the reseller needs is a price for the phone and an agreed commission for selling plans at particular prices and then they can start taking pre-orders. The bonus is no network branding, which can range from acceptable to dreadful.

i never thought a sammy product would be more expensive than apple
Well I bought sim free, it arrived, I had a couple of days with it and now i'm sending it back.
Why I hear you all cry ..... well quite simply because the phone is that good I'm going to commit to a 2 year contract with it. Not sure just who to go with yet, so anyone with any suggestions that would be great (I live essex/herts way and work in london, am currently on t-mobile, who have improved quite a bit last few months)
I really like it, I really do, have one or two little annoyances, but generally I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a phone that much (maybe iphone 4)
So yeah, i'ts going back but i'm gonna commit (and for someone like me who changed phones and find fault with phones all the time thats quite a big thing !!!)
I upgraded to the Orange panther 41 contract through p4u, 18 month, 600 mins, unlimited text, 1gb data, HTC One silver free with flip cover.
The best bits are, p4u gives 5 pounds discount on the tarrif so 36 per month, then they give 144 pounds cash back (directly wire to my bank 42 days after activation) so effectively I am paying 28 pounds for 18 month!
Good deal you think?
The reason I could get that was because dialaphone was doing a new contract deal, essentially the same as mine but with 4 redemptions each 36 pounds.
And I mentioned that to p4u so they matched the price.
Just checked dialaphone, they don't do this deal anymore but panther 36 with means only 400 mins and 750mb data. Same price with 4 redemption.

almost the same as me, except i got mine from dialaphone - though my cashback is in installments instead of in one lump sum - dialaphone did offer me a lump sum, but it wasnt as much as im getting now - now i will get £144, they offered me £100 in a lump sum.
i might call up and ask them to switch me to the lump sum - i will probably forget all about the bill sending in thing!
also, did you use a cashback site?
with quidco or topcashback you can/could get an extra £70 cashback
edit. regarding who to go for - yea the deal h.han and I got is the cheapest of all I think, depends whether what is included fits your needs and whether orange/tmobile/ee are good in your area.

I did not go through cashback site cos I was looking for upgrade.
I did ordered a new contract at that time on dialaphone through quidco initially, but it was a mistake, I thought I could port my existing Orange number to the new Orange contract, but that's not possible so I cancelled that. And accidentally had a chat with p4u so they offered me the same deal as dialaphone but upgrade, too good to miss so I took it.
No cashback from quidco though, but I am happy.

I don't have good experience with Orange either, their 3G is the slowest amongst all the operators because they didn't buy the best 3G frequency, and I had to upgrade 4 times since last Friday through p4u and make tons of call to Orange to remove a stupid flag in their system to get my 4th upgrade attempt approved.
But their price is the cheapest through p4u so I just took it.
Oh, by the way, the 4G from EE definitely is the fastest in all operators since the frequency band is very good.

dont you have wifi at home?
i am assuming that by paying EE for 4g, you are simply paying for "access" to their 4g network - your 1gb will be depleted whether or not you use the 4g or not.

And to add to that, maybe I am misleading here, my contract is with Orange, the 3G brand of EE, so I do not have any 4G service in my tarrif, only 3G.
If you want to sign a 4G deal with EE, the price will be much higher.
With 4G service, it only means the option of connecting to 4G is there, but whether you will get 4G in your area or not, is irrelevant and those 1gb usage includes all traffic on 4G, 3G and GPRS.
If you go over, you will need to pay extra to get additional data.

I heard mention of the value of the free accessory O2 may be offering which would match up with the sort of price that Sony will charge for the QX10.
Not seen anything official from them, or Vodafone yet.
Anyone other than clove have a no contract pre-order up?
what about the price on no contract?

Always had the reverse issue, aren't there companies that will act as an agent with a UK address who then ship it to you ?
There are plenty that will do it from the US to UK.

LOL...but oh so true
I collatd these for the thread on the NeoGAF forum about the phone
EE offers for 24 month contracts. All data amounts will be doubled automatically on select 4G phones, of which the Z1 is a member. That offer expires October 30th
EE.co.uk
£26 P/M 500MB Unlimited calls/texts £239.99 Phone - £863.99 total
£31 P/M 1GBMB Unlimited calls/texts £189.99 Phone - £933.99 total
£36 P/M 1.5GB Unlimited calls/texts £89.99 Phone - £953.99 total
£41 P/M 2GB Unlimited calls/texts £29.99 Phone - £1013.99 total
£46 P/M 10GB Unlimited calls/texts £9.99 Phone - £1113.99 total
£51 P/M 20GB Unlimited calls/texts £9.99 Phone - £1233.99 total
O2 page is now working
https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/phones/sony/xperia-z1-black/
Plan costs are worked out differently to EE. You pick a data/mins/texts option, then a phone payment option.
4G plans
So the "Airtime" options for Data, Calls and Texts are
£22 - Unlimited texts and calls - 1GB data - £528 total
£27 - Unlimited texts and calls - 5GB data - £648 total
£32 - Unlimited texts and calls - 8GB data - £768 total
Add that to one of the Phone Payment plans
£0 today - 24 payments of £25 p/m - £600 total
£69.99 today - 24 payments of £20 p/m - £549.99 total
£189.99 today - 24 payments of £15 p/m - £549.99 total
£309.99 today - 24 payments of £10 p/m - £549.99 total
£639.99 today - 24 payments of £0 p/m - £639.99 total
So the cheapest deals both do at 1GB.
On EE you can get onboard starting at £933.99 total for 24 months (will actually get your 2GB of data as they double it, if you only want 1GB then £869.99 is your lucky number.)
On O2 you can get onboard starting at £1077.99 total for 24 months
In france they give the DR-BTN200M for one more euro (Combo Z1+BTN200M = 700€)
But since yesterday I'm trying to pre order it without results, all the pieces availables were sold in few hours.
So if you live in france don't waist your time on Sony eshop.
What a big deception for the first time of my life that I wanted to pre order something!
No pricing details yet but Telstra have announced they are carrying the Z1 here in Australia.
Makes sense as they had the Z, so I would expect a similar price point from them.
You can register interest as of now with them.

I spoke to 3 in Friday and found out a few useful things after much arguing with idiots who didn't know what they were talking about. Anyway I finally spoke to someone who did and asked some questions....
A few points.
1.The 3 network will be upgraded officially in early to mid 2015 to 4G. No extra data charges will apply for using it.
2. The Xperia Z will NOT receive 4.3. Don't ask me why, that's just what 3 said.
It's looking unlikely 3 will even release the 244 upgrade anytime soon, there is no date set.
3. Rooting/unlocking your bootloader invalidates your contract terms and conditions. Making you liable for the full handset cost up front if 3 catch you out.
And finally.... 3 will not be releasing the new Xperia X1. (I call bullspit on that one, they'd be missing out on sales)
Enjoy people.

Wtf is 3? And you can always use flashtool for 4.3 once it's out no matter what Carrier/bootloader Status.....

3 is a network here the in the UK. Their proper name is Hutchinson 3 UK.
We shouldn't have to use flash tool. 3 should get off their arses and release it. We still haven't had the 244 update as yet. I used flash tool to update and to be honest I can't stand flashtool.

I've never waited for carrier updates...mainly because they are pushing updates out way too slow and are bloated as ****..
I love it when people blame the manufacturers for delaying updates, when it's infact the carriers fault. Anyway, sucks for you and the others..try to get a new contract somewhere else.

I can't move to another network unfortunately as 3 are the only network that serve the area I live in. I live in the middle of nowhere. 3 aren't too bloated but yes slow as hell.

Wow sounds like you spoke to a male cow with diarrhoea!
3 is rolling out 4g from December in the major cities.
this from their Email they sent out to customers yesterday
Our new 4G (LTE) network roll-out will start in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Customers with a 4G Ready device will get nudged up to 4G at no extra cost when it rolls out in their area.
The speeds you'll get will vary by location, coverage, demand and TrafficSence™, which is a system we use to manage data on our network to ensure the best experience possible for the majority of our customers. See how at Three.co.uk/network
http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Built_for_internetting?site=d
Personally I'm looking forward to trying it out at work, as Wolverhampton is listed as one of the end of 2013 ones
although having said that I already get 12mb at home (in the countryside)
244 is already out, its' been out for weeks! you can upgrade through Sony Update easily
United Kingdom 3 UK 1270-6263 10.3.1.A.0.244 R6B 10.3.1.A.0.244 R6B
I have the ftf if you really can't do that, i got it through the sony update tool.
3 don't dictate when whether a manufacturer rolls out an update, they may approve it when asked to on their network, or even what customizations they want, but they don't turn around to an oem and say "you won't release an 4.3 upgrade"
their customer service people are useless...
I'm on 3 and really like the network, certainly not slow at all, but their CS is bad.
Another reason why you never get your contract direct from the Network carrier.
My Z was £3 cheaper than the same tariff from Three, not network locked, I got the Purple one, which was supposed to be an O2 exclusive, AND the SB20 headset
I thought it was common knowledge that the vast majority of customer service agents that work for electronic manufacturers and mobile phone networks don't know wtf they are talking about.
They only have answers to very basic questions and will often make stuff up to get you off the line when you ask them questions about things they haven't been briefed/trained on.
You're basically wasting your time calling them if you actually want an accurate response to anything but a basic non-technical enquiry.

I think what they are saying about the update not being released is referring to OTA. SEUS is a whole different story as is flashing. As a majority of customers won't be able to do it.
As for 3 being a decent network. Yes and no, their customer service is shocking. But their coverage isn't as bad as people say. I generally get Ok signal. Their prices are amazing too. I'm unlimited everything for 21 quid a month.

£27 a month isn't bad to be honest. That's what my contract price should have been.
I got lucky and grabbed the £21 a month when the HTC One S came out then upgraded to the Z on launch day. Technically I should have had an increase on my price but they didn't bother as I've been a customer for a while now.

If you do your maths of a contract price over 24 months is around £650
I bought my handset outright on the day it came out for £400 and I pay sim only 12month contract and get 4gb Internet /unlimited texts and 1000 mins and free to other talktalk members for £10pm which is only cheaper by £10 to this day but when I bought it i could only get the phone for about £40 per month and handset free
Best thing my phone is sim unlocked and bl unlockable and not tied into a 2 year contract

I agree, buying on contract works out more expensive, but we all don't have 400 quid to throw down in one go!

I admit buying outright is a better option but my financial incomings and outgoings, what with my girlfriend living some distance from me so using trains to see her, commuting to work and such, I don't have the cash to buy outright.
