I spoke to 3 in Friday and found out a few useful things after much arguing with idiots who didn't know what they were talking about. Anyway I finally spoke to someone who did and asked some questions....
A few points.
1.The 3 network will be upgraded officially in early to mid 2015 to 4G. No extra data charges will apply for using it.
2. The Xperia Z will NOT receive 4.3. Don't ask me why, that's just what 3 said.
It's looking unlikely 3 will even release the 244 upgrade anytime soon, there is no date set.
3. Rooting/unlocking your bootloader invalidates your contract terms and conditions. Making you liable for the full handset cost up front if 3 catch you out.
And finally.... 3 will not be releasing the new Xperia X1. (I call bullspit on that one, they'd be missing out on sales)
Enjoy people.

3 is a network here the in the UK. Their proper name is Hutchinson 3 UK.
We shouldn't have to use flash tool. 3 should get off their arses and release it. We still haven't had the 244 update as yet. I used flash tool to update and to be honest I can't stand flashtool.

I've never waited for carrier updates...mainly because they are pushing updates out way too slow and are bloated as ****..
I love it when people blame the manufacturers for delaying updates, when it's infact the carriers fault. Anyway, sucks for you and the others..try to get a new contract somewhere else.

I can't move to another network unfortunately as 3 are the only network that serve the area I live in. I live in the middle of nowhere. 3 aren't too bloated but yes slow as hell.

Wow sounds like you spoke to a male cow with diarrhoea!
3 is rolling out 4g from December in the major cities.
this from their Email they sent out to customers yesterday
Our new 4G (LTE) network roll-out will start in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
Customers with a 4G Ready device will get nudged up to 4G at no extra cost when it rolls out in their area.
The speeds you'll get will vary by location, coverage, demand and TrafficSence™, which is a system we use to manage data on our network to ensure the best experience possible for the majority of our customers. See how at Three.co.uk/network
http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Built_for_internetting?site=d
Personally I'm looking forward to trying it out at work, as Wolverhampton is listed as one of the end of 2013 ones
although having said that I already get 12mb at home (in the countryside)
244 is already out, its' been out for weeks! you can upgrade through Sony Update easily
United Kingdom 3 UK 1270-6263 10.3.1.A.0.244 R6B 10.3.1.A.0.244 R6B
I have the ftf if you really can't do that, i got it through the sony update tool.
3 don't dictate when whether a manufacturer rolls out an update, they may approve it when asked to on their network, or even what customizations they want, but they don't turn around to an oem and say "you won't release an 4.3 upgrade"
their customer service people are useless...
I'm on 3 and really like the network, certainly not slow at all, but their CS is bad.
Another reason why you never get your contract direct from the Network carrier.
My Z was £3 cheaper than the same tariff from Three, not network locked, I got the Purple one, which was supposed to be an O2 exclusive, AND the SB20 headset
I thought it was common knowledge that the vast majority of customer service agents that work for electronic manufacturers and mobile phone networks don't know wtf they are talking about.
They only have answers to very basic questions and will often make stuff up to get you off the line when you ask them questions about things they haven't been briefed/trained on.
You're basically wasting your time calling them if you actually want an accurate response to anything but a basic non-technical enquiry.

I think what they are saying about the update not being released is referring to OTA. SEUS is a whole different story as is flashing. As a majority of customers won't be able to do it.
As for 3 being a decent network. Yes and no, their customer service is shocking. But their coverage isn't as bad as people say. I generally get Ok signal. Their prices are amazing too. I'm unlimited everything for 21 quid a month.

£27 a month isn't bad to be honest. That's what my contract price should have been.
I got lucky and grabbed the £21 a month when the HTC One S came out then upgraded to the Z on launch day. Technically I should have had an increase on my price but they didn't bother as I've been a customer for a while now.

If you do your maths of a contract price over 24 months is around £650
I bought my handset outright on the day it came out for £400 and I pay sim only 12month contract and get 4gb Internet /unlimited texts and 1000 mins and free to other talktalk members for £10pm which is only cheaper by £10 to this day but when I bought it i could only get the phone for about £40 per month and handset free
Best thing my phone is sim unlocked and bl unlockable and not tied into a 2 year contract

I admit buying outright is a better option but my financial incomings and outgoings, what with my girlfriend living some distance from me so using trains to see her, commuting to work and such, I don't have the cash to buy outright.

No idea. I am not sure what product code 3 Network phones are.
They're H3G.
This happened in Greece with Froyo so it wouldn't be unheard of. Vodafone GR released Froyo 2.2 in Greece a couple of weeks before the unbranded models got their upgrade from Samsung.
wish it would come to ATT sooner lol
its about frikkin time. three uk customers didnt even get the 2.2.1 update!
Hate to say it, but I will.... If you're using 3, you haven't found the best deals...
... However, i'd be amazed if they managed to get something customised to their level before the unbranded release... so, using that as a basis, do we think JVK could be the branch code all (most) Gingerbread releases will come off?

What kinda deal did u get with three?
I get 600 Anyone Anytime Mins
Unlimited texts
750mb Internet
50 Picture messages
From orange for £20 a month.
Meanwhile Bell just released another 2.2 update, and AT&T just released 2.2 about a month ago (my jaw dropped when my buddy told me, he also doesn't have wifi tethering or unsigned sources without root).
At this rate we're looking at mid-summer on Bell and fall for AT&T. Just insane, f%@#ing North American carriers. I wouldn't even care except that cooking and installing ROMs is much easier with proper modem and CSC files (for 850 band and settings).

I am probably going with 3 for my next contract as they are the only ones that offer true unlimited internet without throttling and allow tethering for free also.

It is hard to believe Three UK can give 2.3 update within 2 weeks time or in the April time if based on their update track history. As most know, they never give 2.2.1 update to their customer although they saying it is already roll-out. I have test everyday for getting the 2.2.1 update through the latest KIES version. Still no update.
If they can pull it out it is good and a miracle...

Just got off the phone with T-Mob as I was due an upgrade today, but they've said that it's most likely going to be around the 28th of May that it gets released. I wasn't lucky enough to get passed on to ChitterChatter or CPW, but they've added a bonus to my account, which is better than nothing.
I'll be ringing up on the 27th to see if they can send me a handset early, and if that's unsuccessful, again first thing on the morning of the 28th
Any other T-Mob UK users here?

Don't know why anyone would want a phone like this on T-Mobile, with the UK's slowest 3G network.
384kbps on usual package or 2mbps at best if you pay extra or strop at customer services. No HSPDA+ network at all if I remember correctly.
i just get over 2meg with t-mobile, seems quick enough tbh. reception allways spot on for me so never felt like changing, previous with o2 but will concider 3 next year once contract is up.

They can't even provide a decent speed on their crippled 3g service. I can't imagine 4g being much better.
New GT-I9305 Galaxy S3 LTE with Quad and 2gb ram is out in a couple weeks in australia and should be out not long after in europe. I have pre-ordered mine. I guess you can pre-order yours?. I saw a screenshot of one of the korean phones showing the available ram, it was showing 1.2Gb free ram.
Not everybodys got bags of money to buy a new galaxy s3 lte Samsung shafted us all with 1 gig
None of you were shafted... you all purchased a phone that had no LTE compatibility..... even if EE didn't run as a separate network but gave Orange the 4G bands your phone would still not be LTE capable.

EE have said on Twitter that T-Mobile customers (and I'm assuming Orange customers included) will definitely be able to upgrade mid-contract without cancellation fee.

yes but you will have to pay an 'early upgrade' fee that Orange has recently re-introduced, which is effectively your remaining monthly payments less VAT
It will only be availible in 4 cities to start with then 16 in total after that. Will take a year or two to hit rural places and so on. It is just marketing to say they have it first when in fact only few people will be able to get the benefit of it. In two years it will be in full flow and then we will have many phones that can use 4G and the networks will of optimised it.

That's not what they said on Twitter, someone asked if they could upgrade without a fee, and they said "definitely". The cancellation fee is practically the same as the early upgrade fee.

From past experience (have used Orange for over 10 years now and know their company workings very well) if they allow people to switch from EE without a fee there is bound to be some other catch (e.g. limiting you to a very high and long contact with EE), but I would still be amazed if they didn't demand an early upgrade fee.
Personally I won't even consider switching to EE until they announce prices and tariff conditions, I am especially concerned about what data limitations they will impose, there is absolutely no point joining a 4G network if they still limit us to 1GB or less!! a month data.

Thats what I thought, It will be available around the 20th September in Sydney Australia......Europe/UK should follow soon after, and as I was looking at some articles that were talking about EE and ALL GT-I9305 will be shipped with jelly bean . Here is a clippet of one of the articles>>>>> " One of those phones is the Samsung Galaxy S3 and according to EE's spec sheet, the 4G iteration of the handset will come packing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean"

I spoke to a T-mobile rep and they said I'm able to go into the store today and get one of the new LTE enabled galaxy s3 which is my reasoning as to thinking it was out already but i am gonna go into the shop just to confirm and get specs and dates

Well my current plan with T-Mobile allows truly unlimited data with fantastic 3G speeds. So I'd be happy to stay on 3G. However, if I could upgrade to LTE for free and the plans were fair enough with no harsh data limits, then I would upgrade.
All T-Mobile and Orange customers will begin to see the network names disappear from their phones and replaced with "EE" in the next few weeks (personally I think they could have come up with a better brand than EE)
My home fibre broadband contract ends with Plusnet next month too, so if the plans and prices are good then I may think about moving to EE fibre. However, plusnet have recently upgraded me to the up to 80mb broadband with 250GB monthly usage for just £20 a month, so if EE can't beat that I will be staying with Plusnet. I wonder if EE will be providing home phone

Confused +1 ^^^
Best to go in the store and find out because that sounds like BS to me. You should ring her now and say oh and the specs state it comes with jelly bean right? If she says yes. Then just laugh.
Finally, UK contract pricing for the Note 2
http://www.androidcentral.com/galaxy-note-2-uk-contract-prices-emerge-shipping-next-tuesday
Thanks for posting. still no information on 32gb or 64gb and a lack of LTE information...
only a week away! w00t
I called T-Mo today and they said the Note 2 is a "4G-Ready handset", but not info on the 32GB or 64GB models unfortunately

any news on orange? am hoping to go in store next week and pick up...
Nah, I have a tmo contract so I didn't phone orange but if you look around (google) you'll find contracts for all the major networks. I didn't see any for 3 or Virgin though. Try the phones4u or carphone warehouse websites to get an idea of what orange are going to offer when you go in store
Sent from my GT-I9100
called p4u today they offered me as an upgrade
Free Note 2 16GB (they dont have any info on 32 or 64GB)
1GB Data
900 mins/2000 texts
on £31.50 a month for 24months.
Seems like a good deal (currently on panther 35 600mins/750mb at 35ppm)
That does sound good. TMo say they have zero info on the Note 2 whatsoever.. They say it's weird how there are TMo contracts for the note 2 advertised but nothing on their own systems. They said I'll just have to wait till next Monday.

yeh when I phone Orange direct they told me the same - however P4U want your business and if you give em a call will tell you all the contracts they can offer...
It's actually an upgrade. I called dial-a-phone and one other company who's name I can't even remember, and they told me I can't upgrade through them until my contract is actually finished (October 26th)
I can only upgrade a month early if it's direct from tmo. Looks like I have to wait till Monday

After much tooing and froing i got the above deal for 33.50ppm and with 200quid cashback...

The reason they don't need to be on the networks system is, the phone supplied through p4u, cpw, etc are often SIM free. So effectively your network contract might as well be SIM only. All the reseller needs is a price for the phone and an agreed commission for selling plans at particular prices and then they can start taking pre-orders. The bonus is no network branding, which can range from acceptable to dreadful.

So is it better to upgrade through the carrier or the 3rd party? Which is generally better value for money?

I'm supposedly getting my Galaxy Note 2 on Tuesday. My contract is 900 mins, 3000 texts, 1gb data for £33.50. Again, from Phones4u. Is that a decent contract? My current contract is 1200 mins, 3000 texts and 750mb for £32.50.

you've gained 250MB but lost 300 minutes for £1 extra a month. If you don't use your minutes then yes its a good deal. But did you get cashback, as stated earlier I got £200 (well they said it will be in my bank within 42 days)...
Just been told by mobiles.co.UK they don't start to ship until week monday so what company's will ship tomorrow

No I don't get cash back I'm afraid. This is an orange contract but they're giving me 2 orange swappables. That didn't mean anything to me until they explained I can use 2 services that don't tap into my data. I.e. Being able to watch certain programmes or streaming/downloading music without using my data.
Edit: I've never used my full 1200 minutes in all honesty. I rarely use my phones for calls and I still have my magic numbers I guess.
Thats actually a very very good deal!
