After playing 25 minutes with a G2 I got a message that the brightness level was going to be automatically reduced to 90% from 100% due to overheating.
This was by just doing basic stuff like web browsing, 2 short YouTube videos, messaging, etc. No gaming at all.
How can the phone overheat just by doing basic stuff?
This reminds me about the overheating issue with the G Pad 8.3 too. LG said they didn't include the Snapdragon 800 due to overheating, and opted instead for the 600.
Who else has experienced the overheating issue? Please explain what where you doing.

I only experienced this when playing Dead Trigger 2 with the Ultra Graphics mod (most demanding game at the moment) and that was after like 15 minutes... it seems for you though that there is a slight problem with your phone, was it charging when doing this?
I had the same problem, the phone would just get randomly hot (as hot as 80°cpu lol), I gave it in for warranty service, it's still sitting there

Mine gets hot doing various tasks, but I just stop doing them and then it cools down and performance goes back to normal. Also different ROMS have different effects on it.

I've not experienced any overheating issues on my phone. It's really getting warm when it's charging and I can imagine that there will be some trouble if you charge your phone and are working with a very CPU demanding app.
The phone was not charging. Brightness at 100%.

I noticed while playing games such as Plague Inc. for more than 20 mins at a time, my Xperia Z gets quite hot.
Maybe it's because the case is glass that it feels more hotter than normal but sometimes it gets too hot that it's uncomfortable to hold in my hands so I have to exit the game and let it cool down for 5 minutes.
Anybody else have this happen to them?

OK, so what phone doesn't get hot after playing games? All phones get hot and tablets also don't worry about it unless the phone is sleeping and its hot.

Noticed mine got damn hot just watching 50mins of video.
Does it suffer from temperature thortling (frames drop down, and overall perfomance down) while hot?
All sony phones had it, im just curious.

There is throttling but it's barely noticeable. The only game that is sometimes affected by it is Rayman Jungle Run, out of all the games I tried.

I was watching a 720p 1.4gig episode of Spartacus last night.
Device got really hot & noticed some frame issues towards the end.
Was playing via MX player & SW encoding due to audio so Bravia wasn't running.
If you use MX Player you should enable the HW+ decoder in settings, it'll allow you to play nearly all video with HW and the audio with SW. Software video decoder is never a good idea.

That i dont like, i am heavy user, and i know xperia s have many problems, but only this one i found bad for me.
:/
If you have unlocked your bootloader, you should try DooMkernel. It lets you undervolt. It did make a difference, albeit a minor one. But then again, mine never gets very hot. The only time it does get hot is when it's charging and I try to run a heavy application. That is definitely normal. Also, the Snapdragon S4 Pro is notorious for high temperatures(as evident from the Nexus 4).
IF the phone gets over 48°C on the back side it start Trotthling!
Throw it in the freezer while you're doing your benchmarks, you'll squeeze a bit more out of it, or go get a job for a supermarket and do all your gaming in the walk-in freezer

AW: Phone runs hot while playing games
As stated, the SoC (Snapdragon S4 Pro) is known to become very hot under load. It has to be considered as normal.
Sony devices are well protected against overheating so dont worry.
I returned my XZ today after 5 hours of use yesterday.
The phone i had got extremely hot while just browsing the menus. I started the phone out of the box(battery was at 62%), ran trough the setup, added gmail, facebook & exchange. The phone was to hot to have next to the ear. Had some problems with exchange so the whole process tok about 30 minutes and the battery ended up at 23%.

Thats true, but it's due to the ****ty qualcomm mpdecision. On the Nexus 4 the overheating issue was fixed after turning it off.
Now that we can root, this should be doable on a personal basis.
That of course is not a fix by the components supplier nor by the manufacturer, but a fix none the less.
mine gets really hot when playing games i mean really hot
Sigh... This is getting frustrating

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a new note 4 St N910C. Just after a day of usage I felt that it is getting hot when I play games on it. I closed all the background apps even resetted it but still no luck. My phone is getting heated up near the camera area. My question is that is this a hardware issue or a software one, because if it is a hardware issue I should try and get it replaced, if a software one I should better wait for a lollipop update.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks

It is completely normal that your phone gets hot around the camera since you are playing a game...What is the temperature you get while playing?
Would also like to know how hot your unit gets

Sorry for the late reply,
I installed a cpu temperature app, and it shows me that my cpu temperature is 36-38 degrees while playing games, also I noticed that after hearing up some of the games start to lag up a little. Any recommendations?

Well i bought this unit after along study of whether to get the exynos version or the snapdragon version, in my opinion I found the exynos to be better because many users suggested that this version does not heat up and works better, but now as I'm using it personally I think it heats up alot, the temperature I get is around 36-38 degrees.

Galaxy Note 4 heating [camera]
I purchased Galaxy Note 4 [SM-N910G] a week back. It's on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat)
I am having a different problem for which I could not find any satisfying solution on the Internet. Whenever I open camera app, the phone starts heating up near camera & battery also drains very quickly [around 2% under 5 min.]
I know that the phone will heat up a little bit when playing high graphics games, but I don't think it should heat up too much when using camera app.
I have already factory reset [both soft & hard reset] the phone, but still it does not help. I contacted Samsung support, & they told me to 'Reset app preferences' from Application manger, but still the device heats up when using camera app.
I also cleared data of the camera app, but still the issue remains
The phone does not heat up at all on standby mode, but opening camera app raises it's temperature more than it should. Previously a Note 2 user, this problem was not there.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue on Note 4 ? Any ideas on this ?
The phone heats up only if you're recording 4k or 2k video. If you use camera generally & your device heats up.You must get your device checked

You can factory reset all day, it won't help. Thats not a problem, the camera just uses a lot of processor power and thus generates heat. You can't change that, you have to live with it
My note 4 with ****y snapdragon heat like fire
I wanna replace it because of the overheating I can't something even hold it I put is always in freezer to cold it
With cpu temp app it gave me 60c even without games the :crying:best value was 40c but when I put it in freezer it down to 30c

Sorry, but do you have any idea about CPU temperatures? 60 isn't bad. 40 isn't bad. 30 isn't bad. Even 70° and occasionally 79° would be acceptable. Don't put your phone into the freezer, ity not good to freeze the hardware.. Especially if you literally have no problem. The CPU is prone to temperature fluctuations and your values are fully normal in the world of CPUs. There is no best value, everything up to 70° is the normal temperature variation. Your phone doesn't have a problem, its perfectly fine.
Mine actually heats up while charging and using at same time. Clean master shows 70-75°C cpu temperature while using browser and stuff but 80+ while gaming, that's not normal right? I'm worried cuz I always used my old phones while charging and they never got this hot, I feel like it will melt someday :/ In what temperatures exynos operates?
I got my SM-N910F yesterday and installed LP 5.0.1 via OTA. Temperatures are 40+ when the phone isnt doing anything. While I did the Antutu Benchmark, it was around 50-52 degrees (Celsius). Feels much warmer than my previous Note 3 (which of course never had LP). And since i am not used to this temparature on my Note 3, i kinda worry about the temps right now. I read a lot that many have that problem since LP update. So whats normal and what would be too high for regular usage (not using Camera or playing Games) ? Is there an average i can go by and compare ?
And whats my alternatives now if I want lower temps , go back to 4.4.4 Stock Rom (currently have LP 5.0.1 Stock) or do I try a 5.x Custom ROM . Did the Custom ROMS fixed these heating problems or is that just something I have to live with ?
Thanks for any help.

Hi everyone,
I'm planning on buying a new phone my budget is not limited but OnePlus 2 checks all the boxes I need in a smart phone? I'm pretty excited to get this phone however when I went online on GSMArena a lot of people were reporting overheating issues and freezing of the phone. Can anyone tell me if the phone overheats on latest stock OTA as of 14th Feb because I really want to buy this phone in the coming 2 or 3 days.
Thanks.
No. With stock thermal file you could have poor performance on HQ games after a while. If you changed it you can avoid the a57 cores to turn off or under clock a lot. I play real racing 3 30m+ without underclocking (for temp reasons) 100mhz. With stock freqs for more than 30m+ ( I don't continue playing so I don't know how many it will take to underclock). I use thermal extreme file with 3°+. Of course it gets hot. But no problem for me, all phones gets hot while gaming or under heavy tasks, I can live with that. My nexus 5 gets hotter and quicker. Also I played vainglory for almost 2 hours and no undercloking either.

You should be fine I've had this phone for about two months and id say at best it gets warm when gaming the only time its ever got hot was when i was in a very hot room with the sun light hitting the phone but i was playing a driving game for 1 hour plus at this point so fair enough that it did get hot.
But id say 100% of the time when im not gaming it never gets hot im on stock 2.2.0
For just going on facebook and normal apps it never gets warm even most games it only gets sightly warm at best unless your really hamming it for a long time it will never get hot. you'll be fine for £289 you really can't go wrong i love this phone once MM is out and full dev support it out going to get even better!
So i feel like my Snapdragon S7 is getting hot when browsing web
And definitely when using the camera app.
Bought a laser temoerature gun and get between 33-42C after browsing the web
The latter was achieved during 1080p 60fps video recording for 5 min.
Is this normal or should i return it as tommorow is my last day?

My phone was getting quite warm when browsing and was draining battery. I kept disabling packages until this was fixed. Try this. Or if you are okay with full factory reset, try it and don't install any additional apps - just test the same thing first.
It shouldn't get hot while doing basic things. My phone only gets warm to the touch when I'm on VR and even then I don't consider it "hot". Disabling things or shut down all apps you have is not a fix either..it's just a workaround.. I would return it if I where you
My 935FD phone will get up to 96F (35C) while browsing or really doing anything with the screen on for more than 10 mins. It gets noticeably warm to the touch. I've already done a factory reset and disabled a few packages, but I'm not sure if this is just normal operation or not? Does everyone's phone get warm under normal use? What temps are you seeing after being in Facebook or just browsing for 10 mins straight? Trying to determine if mine might be defective as well.

I think I'm going to return mine today and get a new gs7
When I browse the Web the phone gets warm to the touch and it's annoying.
I get between 82-89F degrees just browsing the Web and if I try to use my camera
It gets to 97F like in 2 minutes.
My phone gets warm as well ehen browsing with Chrome, using the camera or facebook app. My phone is with the exynos chipset. I'm too concerned that might be an issue. I have already tried resetting the phone but it still gets warm ans sometimes even hot to the touch.

According to , my phone does got up to 36 C / 97 F while browsing the internet this morning. I let it cool down to 27 C / 80 F and took a 2 minute 1080p60 video and it went up to 32 C / 89 F.
Can anyone with a temperature gun measure theirs and see how it compares to the system temperature (e.g. BMW or GSAM) ?

My phone runs about 36c never seen above 40
Hi
So I bought my GS7E a week ago .. I started to notice that it heats so much when I use it
I just don't know if this is the normal heat for it or not so I wanted to know from your experience
so at normal base when I'm not using it it stays at 34-35C
When I use it for whatsapp, facebook an normal light use it goes up to 37C
when I charge it it goes up to 40C
and sometimes when it's in the car on in my pocket and nothing is running in the background it can go to 40C too
that makes it annoying to receive calls or to hold it and put it next on my ear
should I just keep it is it normal ? or is there a rom I could download? what should I do?
Hello to every one. Bought gs7 just two days ago.
I noticed mine gets warm after about 5_10 minutes of browsing the web. Right now its about 1 hour and its temp is 34`c. If i dont use it it goes down to 32 after some minutes.
After 20 minutes of playing gta vice city it reached 35 and afer 5 minutes of 4k recording it reached 37.
I wanted to know should i consider it normal?
Many forums state that 40 degrees battery temperature is not unsusual . However, 3-4 beers is also not unusual, but it does do damage to the brain.
On batteryuniversity.com I found an article:
"Lithium-ion suffers from stress when exposed to heat, so does keeping a cell at a high charge voltage. A battery dwelling above 30°C (86°F) is considered elevated temperature and for most Li-ion a voltage above 4.10V/cell is deemed as high voltage. Exposing the battery to high temperature and dwelling in a full state-of-charge for an extended time can be more stressful than cycling. Table 3 demonstrates capacity loss as a function of temperature and SoC."
I think this is frightful.
My S7 runs at an average of 32 degrees. (23 degrees ambient)
After half an hour of Gear VR it runs up to 43 degrees.
This means that on average this S7 runs above 30 degrees!
Should I ask a replacement or is my logic totally flawed?
Hi,
Mine, with factory reset and nothing running on background (S Health and all stock google and microsoft apps disabled), is not going below the 34 degrees without doing anything..very annoying touching the back and feel it warm.. I think I will ask for a replacement or at least a check in a experience store here in London..

Mine has gone up to 40 Celsius I have the exynos version that what the phone info app say
i notice mine would run that temp on with 4g on. so i was looking through my phone and fount google sync was turned on and i turned it off. That fixed the heat problem.
Hey guys, i have the Chinese variant of the s7 and mine also runs warm just browsing chrome, though I have to use a vpn as well. I'm past the point of getting a return, but they say I can take it in to get it checked. Have you guys had your s7 tested and is there anything they can do if there's anything wrong with the phone? I'm very frustrated over this, as I thought there would be improvements over the s5. Mine operates around 35c according to cool master and it's frustrating having a hot phone. I'm thinking of getting the supcase so I perhaps won't feel the heat so much. Any thoughts or suggestions? Is it normal for the snapdragon s7s to run a tad warm? And, you guys use a case that prevents you from feeling the heat? It's hard to use this phone naked, as the whole thing is metal and glass, so it's hot in your hand.
Had the phone about 3-4 days now and so far been very please. Its a sim free UK phone and has been updated to latest official software as far as I'm aware.
My only concern is that the phone seems to get overly warm in most situations. I don't mean when gaming etc as I don't really play games but just general use. The back and sides seem overly hot to me.
I was under the impression this phone had the later 810 processor and had been throttled to stop exactly this problem?
Anything else that could cause this? Do I have a faulty phone or do others get warm?
I've also noticed an issue with signal strength and reception in that the phone seems to often jump from 5 to 0 bars.
Any help would be appreciated as I'm wondering if to exchange it or return for different model.
Thanks
Really just me?
Poor phone signal in area? Could be causing phone to warm up a bit more than usual, that or you have something else hogging down cpu in your phone.
The Qualcomm 810 still generate a lot of heat when the big cores goes online, v2.1 only slightly less aggressive. Same goes for my gf Xperia Z5 Compact using same cpu.
Thanks for the reply.
I've noticed it when using the phone while on network or WiFi. I mean it can be noticed after 10mins or so of Facebook, video playing (YouTube) or web browsing.
Also while using maps and having the phone on charge while driving really heats it up which I guess would be normal?
Have to have it on charge when on maps as it seems to drop 1% every minute
Charging while navigating will really make your phone almost glow from the heat, perfectly normal for this SoC, especially if you also have your screen brightness turned up to max.
