Does anyone know who makes the default "Email" named client that ships with the Vibrant? Is that a Samsung app, Google app, or other? I ask because it seems to be *dog slow* doing even the simplest of things -- opening a message, refreshing, deleting, etc.. Has everyone else noticed this? Any fixes? In contrast, the built-in Gmail app is super-speedy.
On that note, is there a better Exchange-enabled client that I can install on this phone? Can the Android 2.1 client be ported to this phone? I need Exchange (mail, calendar, contacts) sync support. Also, I don't want to use Touchdown.
Thoughts?

Touchdown.
Yep, I saw that you said you didn't want to use it.
Touchdown's still my recommendation.
I have no problems getting exchange email in a timely manner via the default client...

It's not that I *can't* get my Exchange email -- the syncing appears to be working fine. The issue is the client itself: very slow and laggy. The Gmail client, by comparison, is fast and responsive.
Are others seeing the "Email" app slowness as well?
Lastly, does anyone know who makes the included Email app? Google? Samsung?
the default exchange client in the nexus had zero lag.

It also can't display HTML messages, doesn't highlight complicated URLs correctly (ones with & or = symbols), and has no copy & paste. At least, not from what I can tell.

Can we install the apk from the nexus on the vibrant?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I have not had a problem with the default email program. It has been fast and syncs all my email that I want it to. I did increase the size of the mail since our work uses a jpeg as a sig.

I second this. Anyway to grab the Nexus One mail client and install onto the Vibrant?
Have you tried K-9 mail?
I hate the default email app. Tried touchdown but it is not great. I switched to Google apps for business and migrated from my exchange server and I'm much happier all around.

I agree. I just moved my exchange to google apps for business too.

Yes, Google Apps is a fine solution, and I'm using that for my *personal* email, but my work uses Exchange 2007.
Anyhow, I'm trying out K9 Mail and MailDroid, though I can't get either of them to connect just yet. I'll keep trying.
Otherwise, this really looks like a "wait until Froyo" situation, since the initial 2.1 solution didn't support Exchange calendar syncing. Version 2.2 should have what we need.
Hurry up and wait
K-9 is much better, although it randomly goes for long amounts of time without getting some email, even though I can get them on my computer.
If it's mission criticle to get your emails on time, it's not very reliable, unfortunately (neither is the stck client).
WHOA! Hold the phone (no pun intended)...
I was looking at the "stalling" issues threads, and came across this *FIX* (Method 1) that was pretty easy to do: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=727279
Assuming that you're rooted, just install Busybox and Terminal Emulator (from the Marketplace). Alternately, you can use ADB from your computer, though I've never been able to get this to work. I was able to complete these commands directly on my phone from the emulator and reboot.
Anyhow, after applying this change, the default mail app is ABSOLUTELY FLYING. I kid you not. Just as fast as the Gmail client, if not somewhat faster. Really amazing. To be honest, the entire phone is much, much faster all around -- not just this mail client.
The downside? Well... technically the "app data space" is limited after this update, but I was only using 28megs (of 130megs total). Not too concerned. On that note, they give you the command to check your app data space, if you're wondering.
So....I am absolutely good for now. Happy with the mail clients and their performance.
Awesome!
Thanks for your help, everyone.

The e-mail app in Android 2.2 is pretty great, I was running it on my G1 before I switched up to a Vibrant last week.
The e-mail clients from Google (before 2.2) were/are dismal, but I'm pretty sure they hired Marc Blanc, the guy who wrote the excellent ChatterMail client for the Palm Treo, who then went on to begin developing AndroidMail in 2009. I was a beta tester for AndroidMail, and in the middle of the beta he announced Google was soliciting his input about some sort of secret project. There was never another AndroidMail update after that, much to my dismay.
Then about eight months later I got my hands on the Froyo e-mail client in CyanogenMod6, and I had this nagging feeling I'd seen it somewhere before. Eventually I realized it looks like a super-polished version of what Marc was doing in ChatterMail and AndroidMail.
This is huge for me, because the problems in earlier Android e-mail apps were becoming a serious problem.
So my recommendation would be to sit tight, 2.2 is just around the corner...
For what it's worth, I don't see any slow down or lag with the Exchange client. It is just as responsive as the GMail client and everything else on the phone.

Glad to hear it... but clearly I am *NOT ALONE* on this issue: there was some serious lag going on specifically with the default mail client. To the point that I really tried to avoid checking the email in that client at all, if I could avoid it. It was really, really slow....and the Gmail app was snappy & fast.
Anyhow, the "fix" I posted has totally resolved that issue, as well as speeding up a number of other apps/functions. Really amazing!
Out of curiosity, did you ever apply a "factory reset" that many folks seem to recommend? I never did.
Nope. No factory resets. No lag fixes. No GPS fixes. Only thing I have done is root and install Clockwork. Everything has been working great for me since day one. Guess I got lucky.
My work place uses exchange and K-9 does not work with it since WebDav does not work with newer exchange versions.
The default email app on Nexus works but it very basic - no threaded emails - a big thing for me.
Galaxy S3 has a decent email app (one with a white envelope and red @ symbol) which supports threaded/conversation email.
Is there any way I can install (or replace the default client with) the email client that runs on S3 on the N4?
Waiting
Some people will do
I also want to know, thank you
Google: Samsung Galaxy S3 System Dump
Or just go here: Galaxy S III System Dump..
It has the System Dump; but also provides smaller file containing just the apps.
Also some instructions to get the app installed on the N4 (Not saying they will work)

Samsung apps will not work on AOSP (other than some hacked files found for AOSP/CM10) as they are tied to TouchWiz interface (which obviously the Nexus 4 doesn't use).
The default email app though does need some work for sure.

Guess you missed the part in my post that said "Not saying they will work"
I was providing the S3 Email app download...
And yes the Email app used for non Gmail accounts surely does need some work.. like Zoom, and AutoFit.
Not sure why Google updated the Gmail app, but not the other Email app.
Thanks.. So looks like it's not possible to get the Samsung email app to work on nexus 4

Does anyone know a way around the default maximum of 3 exchange accounts?
I need 5 which the DNA, various Droids, and Galaxy had no issues setting up.
I believe the only solution is to use a third-party email client. K-9 Mail may be of interest to you.
K9 will work with older versions of exchange but with exchange 2013, k9 doesn't have support for activesync, which is used in 2013.

It just seems strange that LG decided to limit this where other phones with the same exact OS have no issue with more then 3 Exchange accounts.
There has to be a hack to override this setting... my search continues!

Bump! Any ideas on this would be great.
With root now achieved can someone point me in the right direction here? I have to imagine it is just a number in a config file somewhere but I haven't been able to figure it out.
I am using the native email app for my exchange account. It is useless..
1. Keeps force closing
2. Whenever I try to move a message to a folder it keeps loading then closes
I was hoping it would fix with the new OTA update but not luck.
I am using N900 model.
I actually have the same problem but on a S800 version of the phone.
I've tried clearing the cache, removing my account and a lot of different things.
I am rooted, use a different dpi than stock but via xposed it is stock dpi. It never worked w/o fcing the first time I open it, even before I was rooted even.
If I want to read an email I open the app, it fc's, then I open it again and all is fine...
Would be nice of anyone had an answer or fix for this.

Have you tried flashing one of the ROMs? Maybe it works fine in those?
Something causes the crashes and I suspect it's folder naming related and is depended on the local language. I thing even if I don't have the problem we must somehow contact sammy for this.
You have the problem in normal pop3 accounts or exchange accounts only?

I have zero problem with the email app. 2 exchange accounts on it. So maybe it is indeed something about your particulars accounts.

i have this problem on my exchange account... not quite the same, but every time i get an email or notification to do with that account, i can't access it from the notification bar or the app will force close. even if i try to clear all notifications or clear just that one, it freezes up the phone for about 5 seconds then force closes the email app
any ideas? this sucks... i need that account for work...
I think we need to narrow down the problem, what I can do is to make for you a test email in my company just for you to test, I'm with exchange 2007. What you think,? I'm really thinking that is regional problem or something that has to do with character encoding in the phone or in the exchange server or even with the certificate.
You both have knox enabled?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 4
Well I have frozen the knox crop via titanium backup.
I've only setup a Hotmail account. Never had any problems on my old note 2 or s4. Not even on 4.3 Google edition roms or aosp. Anyway, the problem was there even before I rooted strangely. Even when I swipe away email notifications the app fc's.
Could it be an email.apk problem in the /system/app folder?
Could someone with root please upload it so I can test?
Another edit.
I've noticed it only happens when I get an email, which means I get an notification. If I open the app when I get an notification as well it fc's. When I just open is at random it doesn't fc. Very very weird

How do I disable knox?
Sent from my HTC Butterfly s using xda app-developers app
I have tried it with Knox frozen and not frozen....I'm on a n900w8 rooted with twrp installed. If I do anything to interact with an email notification from my exchange account it freezes the phone for a few seconds then force closes email. If I turn notifications off, and nothing gets displayed in the notification bar then I can use it all normally. And even with stuff being displayed, if I go into the actual program and check the email, it works, even with the notification there, but it doesn't go away and when I go to get rid of it then same thing force close.....what a load of Crap that Samsung puts out something with an issue like this on a phone that is supposed to be "business friendly" ****ing bull****
My problem with email app:
It sends emails just fine it does not receive any email unless i remove the account and add again. there is nothing wrong with my server (using IMAP push from hostgator) and in the K9 client its working flawlessly however i would really like to use the stock app. It wont receive email even if i do a manual refresh i have to remove the whole account and add it again
can anyone help me please??
Ok guys better don't turn off knox for this, we still don't know how it affects the overall system. As I see it it's problem with the samsung push service and the notification subsystem. The push service is upgraded before some days and my version that's working fine is 1.2.2.2

Two things....first, would this cause the notification related issues I have?
Second, I just found that, if I set sync to manual, send myself an email from a Gmail account on my computer, then go into the email app and click refresh to sync, then I get the same problem....email freezes things up fit a few seconds then force closes. I can still Re open email and after I do that then it works fine and I can interact with my nail, it's just those two situations that causes the force close.....don't get it

Download http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ge-services-6-5-1791555-android-apk-download/ and see if it works for you?
I find that Nine is a great client built specifically with corporate exchange support in mind. You can try it for free, then after two weeks it'about 10 bucks - well spent in my opinion. Other options include Cloudmagic (if you trust them) and the default Outlook app.
