How many switch from a gs3 ? Are you all still happy ? Ive mess with my cousins nexus 4 and I did a few test on the camera and honestly ,to me it looked like it took better pics , I enjoy taking pics so I'm really thinking of getting one, but I'm still not sure so I'm trying to get different opinions of people who made the switch, , thanks for the feedback

I had the S3 on Verizon and T-Mobile and I an very pleased with my decision to switch to the N4. The S3 had a few cool features like flipping the phone over to silence it by to me nothing beats vanilla Android. What ever the S3 had I can probably get an app or widget or ROM to to on the N4. And I'm on stock 4.2.2. The carrier S3 won't have it for a while. The fact that my N4 cane out the box unlocked AND only cost me $350 + shipping and tax was a no brainer for me.

I too came from a T-Mobile GS3 and I've got to say that I do not regret the switch at all. This phone has longevity , in terms of Android updates, compared to the GS3. Yeah the screen is smaller but honestly HD videos look deeper and more to real life than they did on the GS3. And the on-screen buttons don't bother me as much as I thought they would. If you have a wallpaper with a black bottom, they'll blend right in! And if you are worried about the fixed storage there are programs that'll make the Nexus 4 an external media device so you can drag, drop, copy, and paste. You'll like the phone I promise.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Yea , that's almost the only thing trying to hold me back is the storage, but I know eventually external storage wont be a option in the future.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
external storage isnt really an issue for me but i have to say I switched from a tmobile white S3 and I love the nexus 4 WAYYYYY better. I was never crazy about the s3, even now the s4, the whole bubbly plasticky design and weird colorful gingerbread looking theme.. It's alright and I found it weird that I wanted to sell it because it did everything I wanted to and had a great screen but it had no "pull". The nexus 4 however, the minute I opened that box, i was like wow, this look and feels better than all the 1080p youtube review videos i watched. It's so much nicer, sleeker, feels better in the hands.
I know the s3 is a popular phone so it has good dev or community but think the nexus 4 has more and with the Paranoid Android and pie controls, it has the same real estate and usability screen size as the s3. The s3's colors are brighter and has a little bit better outdoor visibility but the nexus 4 has much better call quality and what seems like faster gps lock on. Plus it has 2 gb of ram and i think with the dev community has a lot more potential, if you can go without the extra storage.
I switched fro note 2.. I do miss the size of screen and spen a bit, but all other is amazing on N4

Unless there is something about the GS3 that you really dislike then it is not much of an upgrade and isn't worth buying it as an upgrade. Might aswell wait for the next nexus phone. Just slap some CM10.1 or AOSPA on the GS3

+1 to this. While I prefer the N4 to the GS3 there's really very little difference and it's not enough of an upgrade to be worth buying. You won't notice any significant difference in speed or performance between a GS3 with CM10.1 and a N4 running stock, and I'm pretty sure the camera on the N4 is worse than the GS3's.
Thanks to everyone that has taken the Time to reply , it's not that I dislike the s3, but what I do hate is the really slow updates , so I doubt the S3 will get klp,, and like I said I take lots of pics and to me , from few pics I took , the ones from the N4 looked to had better color , on the s3 they looked wash out compare to the N4,,,, this where indoor pics btw . Decisions, decisions, ,,,,,,,,,.....:banghead:

Last few phones I had, Galaxy Nexus, HTC international One X, Galaxy Note 2, now the Nexus 4.
Nexus all the way. Nothing beats the simple and minimalist design of a Nexus. Nothing flashy or fancy, just a cool black slab of a phone, with a light OS.
I have owned a ton of phones over the years, every Nexus phone too, and lots of phones in between each Nexus. But I kept each Nexus the longest. Just love the minimal design and understated look of the phone.

I did since this phone came out and I do not regret.
i came from a GS3 and the only thing i miss is the superb camera quality of the S3. The Nexus 4 is not on par with the S3 in this regard but destroys the S3 at every other thing

Got mine 2 days ago, after 2 years with Samsung (s2 + s3)
Gotta say, I love the nexus so far, but the battery life and camera quality really is a downgrade from the s3...but we knew that, and I thought it would be a price worth paying for a true Google experience....only time will tell if I am right or not, but I'm going to enjoy the speed and smoothness for a while before making my final decision on which device to sell.
Quick question...are any of you guys experiencing weird battery behaviour? Mine sometimes drops 20% after a reboot, but then goes back up. Cheers all
Again, thanks to all the replies,
I went ahead and order it,
I wasn't really looking for a big "upgrade " but also i dont want to take a "step back", so i wanted to know if it was worth the switch, , I really hope the camera is not to bad, I know a lot of people saying that its a downgrade from a gs3,,, but the pictures I took indoors , to me they look really good, , Im just tired of spending money buying new phones because the carriers/ manufacturers don't update them, so from I read, Google supports at least 2 yrs on nexus phones so I should be keeping this one for at least 1yr or even 2yrs ,, thanks again to everyone

If you can stomach the short battery life and mediocre camera on the S4, you should stick with it. Right now Samsung is deeply into the lag eliminating stuff so it is worth waiting a couple of weeks to see where things stand, but the S4 obviously has boatloads more extres much better screen, battery life, camera plus new sensors, IR blaster... currently coming with some fluidity compromises. Hold on to it until the dust is cleared.

True true! Il do just that. See what the common problems are

It is always worth waiting to see how much progress manufacturers can achieve, Samsung has the largest resources to deal with issues, so I'd expect responsiveness to improve vastly by June. The Nexus 4 should help easing the wait.
I switched from an N4. My main reasons for switching are:
1) The N4's camera was hopeless in low light, as The Verge put it, its better to 'just use your memory'.
2) I had a massive delay when receiving push notifications on WiFi and 3G. There was a Google support thread where ppl basically identified a faulty driver, which even now has not been fixed. Some ppl say they have no problem but I certainly did.
3) The S4 has 4G!
4) After the latest update the N4s battery life improved dramatically. But the S4 is better still, despite using it like a new phone it still surpasses the N4 in battery longevity.
Arguably the N4 is slightly smoother in some operation. When changing tabs on the S4 there is a slight delay before anything happens. But this can be solved by simply switching to Chrome.
The screen smearing on the S4 makes it seem more laggy but in reality its not.
Hope this helps you decide.
/edit Almost forgot to mention, I miss photosphere from the N4
The Galaxy S4 has a better camera by a mile then the Nexus 4 and the battery life is also a lot better. Plus you get a bigger screen, faster processor. Over all the S4 is a way better device.

Go for it! It's pretty much the best Android out.
-Powerful CPU/GPU (especially the Octa)
-Excellent Camera
-High memory variants PLUS MicroSD support upto 64GB
-5.0" HD1080P SAMOLED display with 440PPI
-Huge 2600mAh battery
-USB OTG
-Native support for almost all Audio and Video formats
-Multiview Multitasking
-Capacitive display usable with gloves
-A whole lot of sensors
-Wolfson DAC (in the Octa)
-IR Blaster
...the list goes on, it pretty much whipes the floor with the N4 in everything except updates, but this being a Samsung, it will get updates for atleast 20months like the GS2.
This thing is a lil machine
Just one word: better battery
Yes, you will love the screen.

I use CyanogenMod, so that's a moot point to me. I always plan on installing an AOSP-based ROM as soon as it is available.
I come from a GNex and aosp is noobsville compared to a feature rich rom with no lag.

Had a S4 messed around with it lol and gave it back to the store and got the G2 loving this phone 10x more than the s4
Had the s4 and ran the gpe 4.3. Trust me.. I won't go back after using this phone. As someone said, Google's Android isn't as good as a feature rich device that gives you similar performance.
As for the phone itself, every screen, battery, performance, camera... The G2 blows the s4 away

I have recently owned the HTC One, S4, and S4 Active and the G2 is night and day difference! Now I will clarify that I haven't received my unit yet but I set them up for people at my work and didn't put it down all day Friday. If you haven't played with one yet go and try it out... you wont regret it. The S4 is a joke compared... I can say the same about all 3 of the above phones. I hope to get my unit this week...
It is a perfect blend of features for me. The HTC One had an amazing screen but it was a tad to small and the battery life was horrible. The S4 had a nice form factor but the AMOLED was horrible IMO, and the S4 active was nice with the LCD instead of the AMOLED but the G2 has the looks, screen, battery, features, loki-able, camera, speed.... i could go all day
Before you rebuttal with some garbage about aluminum remember that you would use a case because a scratch is imminent and complain about the weight.

I'm coming from an s4. This phone is a huge upgrade over the s4 imo. It runs smoother, has a much better screen which can actually be viewed outside, has photosphere, has OIS, runs smoother, better battery, and imo a better sock Rom experience in general, and knock on and off is awesome (yes I'm aware of apps and using gestures but I find LG's built in knock on works better)
It's a joke the s4 is the same price and even if the s4 were cheaper I would still get the g2.
I like my g2 so much more that before I got the g2 I said to myself that if tethering didn't work I would keep the s4 because I need tethering but after buying my g2 and using for an hour I knew there was no way I could go back to the s4. I sold it a couple hours later.
This is by far the best smartphone I've ever owned.

I came from two S4's. One on Verizon and then one on AT&T when I switched carriers. I didn't like the One, so the S4 was the best choice for me at the time. I hate AOSP, so the Nexus 4 wasn't an option for me.
Anyhow, this phone blows the S4 completely out of the water and then it gets a hold of it again, throws it back into the water and blows it out of the water again. It's that much better imo.
Don't even consider the S4. Trust me. This phone is where it's at right now.

I'm stuck between the two. I'm running rooted s4 with bioshock kernel and it's pretty smooth but G2 is still smoother and much faster. HD games run butter smooth. Screen is unbelievable. But I do not like the camera in really low light where I have to turn on flash. The pictures are dim. When I try panoramic I have pan slower than the s4 or parts of it gets blurry. I use my phone a lot to take pics so that part is the most important to me. Also no sd card so my 64gb card that's almost full is useless.

i had well still have s4, but after seeing this one, for some reason it felt more user friendly, more pleasent, screen is amazing, battery life to die for, 2hr screen time i was still at 60% plus, every where you look you see samsung, i was affraid i would miss wireless charging but so far so good
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk 2
Traded s4 just yesterday for the g2...no comparison really. The s4 is not a bad phone, but stock to stock, the g2 is just so much smoother and the screen is a nice upgrade. Can't go wrong with either, but if you are debating between the two, I would definitely go g2...there really is no downside.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk 4
I had a S4 with octalag cores, it was slow and touchwiz bloat and slowed up everything. Yet benchmarks were fast? Ok camera, shakey video then the screen broke in my pocket from the heat difference.
LG G2 is waaaay better in my eyes.

No SD card issue for me with my G2 F320L, I can still keep on using my Extreme sandisk 64GB
I had the I9500 since launch, and the G2 is better in every single aspect. The only thing I can see worth arguing over is the screen. (LCD vs amoled) I'm happy with either, and the G2 screen is phenomenal. I only have a couple of nags with the G2, some of which already solved by XDA (low speaker volume, bloat) and the others will be solved in time.
The buttons on the back will have you cursing for a few days, but after that you'll get used to that. It hit me once like a ton of bricks, while talking on the phone I wanted to turn the volume up. Normally this means fumbling trying to find the volume rocker on the side, but then it hit me, hey my finger is ALREADY on the damn button. Done. And after you get used to knock on, you'll be upset with other devices that can't do it. I never touch the sleep button.
I had pretty decent lag issues with the S4, among some other nags, the G2 has NONE of these. Its a monster 99% of the time. (I've only found a couple of super oddball issues) I rooted day one, and did a Titanium restore, Nova launcher, etc. No problems. I swear this is the fastest, most responsive typing experience I've ever had with SwiftKey.
I was also desperate to be able to return to AOSP (or an AOSP based rom) and the Exynos S4 looked pretty bleak for full support. (as usual) Makes me wish I had gotten the I9505. (snapdragon)
I'm not huge on battery life (I'm able to charge most of the time) but the G2 also wins here by tons. I'm completely happy with that. S4 w/rom and kernel was doing an average of 12ish hours for me, the G2.... probably 18-20. I left the G2 unplugged overnight and with two days of mild use I got over 30hrs. When the screen is off it uses NO battery. (for me and my setup)
I had a 16gb card in my S4, and the G2 is 32gb... so even steven there.
All that being said, I'm paying very close attention to Nexus 5 news. I'm an AOSP junky, and I'm very much ready to return to a Nexus phone for that reason. The fact that it will be based on this hardware is exciting. When we get official word on the N5, I'll weigh the G2 vs the N5, and how the dev scene looks for the G2. If I knew for an absolute fact that the G2 could/will have the same dev potential that the N5 will undoubtedly have, that would seal it for me. (I did the same thing last year, bought the LG OG, and wished I had gotten the N4)
Summery: Noway is there a valid argument to get the S4 over the G2. (unless you *HAVE* to have removable storage/battery)
All of this is my opinion for what its worth. I've been using Android phones since before the Nexus One, and I usually try all of the flagship phones, minus the phablets and *usually* no HTC models.
Some days I take my S4 with me and some days I take the G2. I like them both but if I had to choose only one to keep it would be the G2. The S4 has better GPS for some reason. It locks twice as fast but it's no big deal. I can live with 32gb of memory and 3000mah batteries.

Well you might as well get used to the bootloader never being unlocked. This is becoming the norm pretty soon you won't find any phones with a unlocked bootloader. The only reason I want it unlocked would be for customized kernel support for better battery life far as ROM I'm fine with stock with a little of the bloat taken off the top. Never understood the ones that buy the Note series and just turn it into a oversize S5 why get it when you don't have the s-pen function or use the s-pen?

I agree with you totally, its more of a software update and more megapixels to the camera, I think all of that can be baked into our note 3, by our developers, not too exited about upgrading to the note 4, and I also expected water resistant.
Yup. With all the kickass devs we have here from Bri, RErick, Mega....and you count, yes, our note 3 is soon going to be a note 4 without the heartbeat sensor that I'd never use. Lol

On at&t they will always be locked. Same with verizon. Tmobile version wont be locked down. I boycotted sammy long ago. My next device will either be the xnomi mi4 or the nexus 6.
I'll pass. The Note 4 turned out like the S5. It's just a "plus" version with no major improvements. In some ways I feel the Note 3 is superior.
As has been said… same phone, minimal improvements. Unless the display is truly that much more impressive I can't justifiably use my two year upgrade to purchase an incremental improvement. With the snapdragon 810 around the corner in 2015 people would just be kicking themselves getting this hardware. Samsung is so bent on beating apple to the punch they shot themselves in the foot by not joining the 64 bit game on this hardware revision. I'm going to wait for android L and all of the things that come with 64 bit goodness.
As cool as the note edge looks, it looks like an expensive, flashy gimmick that will serve no real purpose other than being a footnote in the history of smartphone creation.
That being said, I still love my s pen, and will reserve my final judgments until I have seen them hands on but, like the S5, my first impression is one of thorough disappointment. Go home, samsung. You're drunk.

Years ago I had this HTC clone that had a metal removable back and have always wanted something similar.
If I could get one of these under $700 unlocked I would grab it. As it is I'll most likely be going with the g3 for under $600.. Wish it was metal though.

Personally I see the Note 4 as big a step forward over the Note 3 as it was over the Note 2 (which IMO was considerable). I've owned the Note 2 and Note 3. It fixes the weak areas of the Note 3 and frankly seems to be a phone with no compromises.
- the metal frame alone is a big deal to me - I HATE the chrome plastic frame of the Note 3. Button feel is supposed to be much better as well.
- the Note 3 screen is good but not great. It's still a touch dim compared to the best LCDs and whites are not quite white yet. If the S5 LTE-A 1440p screen is any indicator, both these areas will be noticeably better than the Note 3 screen. And battery life on the LTE-A with the S805 didn't decrease at all vs. the normal S5 with the same battery size.
- The camera needed to get better - the Note 3 is not great indoors and bad in low light. I end up using my wife's iPhone in low light situations.
- Personally I like the fingerprint scanner (even if it's not as good as TouchID) since my work enforces a password unlock to use it for BYOD.
I'm definitely disappointed. I was hoping for the same water resistant goodness of the s5, and I'm thoroughly dumbfounded as to why Sammy left it out both versions of the new Notes. Love the outward design as far as the metal goes, though. This was more update than upgrade by far. Consider the ball dropped.

Then why not. S5 is a really good phone.
Afraid of change I assume. He's offering me a mint s5 and 40 bucks for my note 3. Both white. I have tons of extras s view case otterbox a few spare batteries. Just debating the trade. Dunno why

LOL. I would say your friend is clever.
What do you think the S5 has which Note 3 doesn't?
Not exactly sure except a more managable screen. Finger print scanner. More updated firmware that's about it

Yeah exactly. Unless you need a more manageable phone there's no point in trading a Note 3 for an S5, at least that's what I think. From my personal experience I have seen the TouchWiz on Note 2 was better optimized than the TW on my S4, now unless Samsung has changed entirely I am confident that same case retains for Note 3 and S5.
I am getting one within next week too, and going for Note 3.
Again, this is my opinion, yours might differ.
The S5 has better specs including the better camera and overall hardware. If that matters to you then its worth the upgrade, I personally bought the LTE-A which has the same specs as the note 4 but in a more manageable/compact size.
Just curious I'm currently just getting back into android. Have been with ios for yearsssss now. What phone is lte-a? I obviously know what lte is. Just not up to speed on all the models yet thanks for your input dude much appreciated

S5, better phone all round. The note 4 would be a more worthy choice over the s5 but not the note 3. Besides the pen and the screen size, the extra memory, both ram and storage. Other than that its behind in terms of specs. The s5 for me Is the best phone you can buy right now. Samsung's done it again, if only they hadn't made the s4, because the s2 and s3 were amazing devices for their time. The s5 is in line with them, nothing wrong with the note 3, just don't think its better..
Made the trade absolutely love the s5. Buttery smooth and just a beautiful device

just traded my note 3 for s5 and i don't regret at all. note have a fabulous battery in standby (less then 1% per hour drain), but as soon as your screen is lit, it will drain like there's no tomorrow. On S5 it is quite the opposite: stand-by battery is nothing spectacular (2-3% per hour), but screen on consumption is absolutely brilliant: seldom it gets past 6% per hour while reading and no more de 10% per hour when wathing HD movies (full .mkv files). not sure about the camera differencies, only spent little time doing photos on note. overall, it's a wothy switch, I wouldn't look back.
I have to day I agree made the switch and absolutely love the s5. No comparison really. Hands down a better device. The note 3 is no slouch but man this s5 rocks
