Xperia SP < Xperia V ? - Xperia SP General

Hello guys
I have a question about Xperia SP & Xperia V !
I want to buy the phone that has the less bugs, software/hardware problems etc..
I think there is not too much difference in performance between the two, so I need an advice please.
I thank you in advance ^^

I think there is no any reason why would you buy an older xperia V

The performance differences is huge enough, especially in GPU. You only need to choose between good SoC or water resistant

But don't you think that Xperia SP has more problems than Xperia V ? I mean serious problems like bugs, lags, software bugs... and then the performance of Xperia SP won't mean anything.

I've been used latest Sony update 12.1.A.1.201 which solved many bugs
RAM management issue and LED issue when playing music in Walkman app
Only thing that bugging me is enabled LED during a call.
Other than that and with RAM management solved I see no lags or any other misbehaving with my phone.
So latest FW is almost perfect for average user and everyday use.
I don't like it's bloatware but with root, you can remove those app you don't want.
Also you have many stock based custom ROMs and real custom ROM's like
CM10.2, CM11, and Carbon, Mahdi, Vanir...
I tried PureXSP, ExistenZ, Vanir, MIUI...
and currently I am on Carbon KitKat build
I don't know about Xperia V but I'm sure if you search forum you will found as many bugs for V as for SP

I've had both Xperia V and Xperia SP.
In STOCK conditions, I could confidently say that Xperia V > Xperia SP.
Xperia SP may have superior hardware compared to Xperia V but Xperia V has significantly less bugs, a better STILL camera, superb RAM Management, and you even get water resistance up to 1m and 30mins (with that, I would usually clean my Xperia V by soaking it in a dipper filled with water).
However, Xperia V is also ageing well and the same goes with official software updates from Sony. Xperia SP has more chances of getting another software update than Xperia V.
Although Xperia SP has all these annoying bugs, there are plenty of devs who created ROMs that have fixed/mitigated these bugs. The subsequent software update [12.1.A.1.201] has also patched critical bugs such as WiFi issues, Illumination Bar issues, RAM Management (uh, slightly), and others. However some issues still persist such as the screen flickering bug as reported by other xda members (I don't experience this though).
Xperia SP for me has an awesome hardware for a mid-range android device and its performance is only limited by such ugly stock rom. But hey, isn't that the reason why we are here in xda?

Thank you for the explanation, I really appreciate it,
I'm going to get XSP then !
( I think that Xperia SP has less chance of getting a new update cause it may get even more bugs if they updated it to KitKat )

No thanks ! I don't like the ugly design of samsung, and it's the same on all the samsung devices !

In my opinion, Xperia V has a better camera, display and it's water resistant.
Xperia SP has a slightly bigger (not so good) display, so-so build quality (my on/off button has broke twice), mediocre camera, but great looks and a good processing power and MIGHT get Android 4.4 (I doubt it).
So it's up to you to decide which do you like the most.

I'm going to buy XSP, and I like its screen size it's perfect not small not too big !
I hope I won't get any lags or problems with it, even on the 4.3 ^^ ( because I know some people that don't have any minor or major bug with this update, it's 100% working bug free ! )

Good! As I always say, the best phone you can get is the one you like the most, otherwise you'll get bored of it quicker.
Enjoy your future SP.

[JB,MIUI] ++ WalkerLab ++ Xperia X10 JB, MIUI - discussion

To keep Developmnet thread clear we can discuss problems here
Thank you for understanding.
ROM main thread [JB] ++ WalkerLab ++ Xperia X10 JB 4.2.2
reserved
I will keep this post updated as I test newer releases of the ROM/kernel but cannot promise to do it the same day when a new version is released because I only have one x10 and am using it daily as my main phone.
UPDATED WITH VERSION 1.1
Stability
Core functions are stable and the whole ROM feels stable but WLOD* is to be expected when trying to use a newly installed application. Using any overclocked settings leads to instability and a reboot in my case, but every CPU chip is different and can withstand different clocks, so don't let this be an ultimate result. Most stable governor seems to be ineractiveX and NOOP I/O sc.
v1.1 WLOD still persists but is under investigation by the developer.
Performance
Comparing it to other 4.x range ROMs, it has a kind of shakey performance, especially graphics performance. However, considering that this ROM is a JB 4.2.2 and this opinion is founded on the very first release of it, this is acceptable and will probably improve with newer releases.
v1.1 Seems a bit slower than v1 but that is probably because of many apps being installed with the ROM because this is a BETA version.
Battery life
Since my battery is in very poor condition and I am currently awaiting a new one, it would be misleading if I wrote anything here so I won't.
v1.1 Still didn't get the new battery so can't provide legitimate info.
Flexibility
Mainly because I love massive customization options and am a big CyanogenMod fan, I find this a bit unflexible in means of customization, but more options are to follow, especially through the AROMA installer.
v.1.1 adds the Xperia Z look, Timescape and SocialLife with SL being buggy like hell. It also adds some optional apps to install but no change in system integrated functions. Developer options can by accessed by going into Settings > About phone > Build Number
Notable bugs
- WLOD* on new apps
- Camcorder is not working (that is a well known problem with Android 4.X and our x10)
- HW decoding seems unavaliable as well but that is the same as the above but from what I understand, feravolt managed to get it working for 480p videos
v1.1 Above bugs still persist.
Note that I might have not found all of the bugs
*WLOD - White Led Of Death is the name for the process of a random reboot or a reboot not initiated by the user but because of a system related error. Typically the phone reboots with a white colored LED flash.
On a side note, I would reeaaaaaaly love if it would be more CyanogenMod 10.1 orientated than default JB 4.2.2.
Nice work though!
Sent from my Xperia X10 using xda app-developers app
I agree that the rom would be better off with cyanogenmod 10.1

Thanks mate, I installed seeder and (social life & battery Saver pro) from (zadi5h rom_hd3). through flashtool and all good no reboots or wlod. runs very smooth for 4.2.2 Force closes when trying to change themes you get xperia home has stopped, no wlod or reboot just ok to close and all is good again.
:cyclops: one eyed android fan!
Did you achieve any progress on the WLOD and crashing apps problem?
Sent from my Xperia X10 using xda app-developers app
Downloading - WalkerLab JB v1.1 seems to be a lot slower to download compared to V1 over 2 hours. I installed more apps to v1 last night and still got no wlod or reboots :good: is it just me? this seems to just work fine, although i don't play games so they are untested. I have 2 x10i's and have left V1 on for over 24 hrs new record for me! As I'm flashing Mad .... ....I can test anything you want to try.... [MENTION=295153]walker.
I saw you implemented xperia z look in v1.1. Will you give the option to change the look to cm10.1/standard in later releases?

Yes, I am preparing both look - Xperia Z and standart - choose in Arom,
ROM v1.1 is testing so is bigger aprox 300MB, will deleted some apps
WLOD - unfortunatelly it is also KERNEL problem, common problem of ROM and KERNEL, investigate, but still wati for git (do not have kernel sources just now)
Really do my best. But as you know it is very time consuming (need study, test - and have only 1 X10i )
Developer options
go to Settings -->>scroll down About phone -->>scroll down Build number -->>tap tap tap tap on Build number
Well done with this , you should be able to keep most people happy having the choice of ADW ,Xperia Z and standard. I recommend using seeder with this Rom, i think it makes a difference. Its great to have the Aroma installer and choices! All i have to add to this is Seeder a Movie Player and Digital Clock and that's it for me... as you already have XDA ......:highfive:
Hello I would like to know about battery life....
As I already had Jelly Bean on the X10 I think this was the biggest Problem.

I have the original battery, and one day I will be free of the problem. On the other rom I did not last a day. Definitely not disappear before my eyes, but I use V1.1 next day.

Depends on the kernel more than ROM and on functions you use. X10 is known for having poor battery life and apart from that the biggest problem on JB would be the lack of HW e/d and the camcorder.

@ Walker I flashed my other phone and now i get wlod ? So i think as ccvader13 posted earlier that each phone is different as my other phone just works perfectly, i can pretty much just use it normally. The only difference i can see is under the battery for serial numbers are slightly different. I dont know which is newer but they are:
1. x10i Type: AAD-3880056-BV AAAB
FCC ID: PY7A3880056 CB5
IC: 4170B-A3880056 10W10

IC: 4170B-A3880056 11W14
S/l 1232-4473

Maybe someone know's and can share some info? 10W10 and 11W14 stand out to me but i cant find info even googling serials.

The second one you listed is the newer one. In the serial number the "CB511" is the same and then comes the letter "G" in the first phone and the letter "T" in the second one. G comes before T meaning the phone with the G was made before the other one. Same goes for type, the older one (first one you listed) has AAAB and second has ACBE. A is before C meaning the first one you wrote is surely older.

Hi all
just testing new version - I´ve found some bugs.
I´d like to ask you - which version of xperi Z launchers do you prefer? The situation - new launcher from ra3al doesn´t support timescape plugin and I am not able to correct it just now (for time reason). So do you prefer newer launcher or the older one?
Another question - do you want to choose also explorer like Opera or Dolphin into Aroma installer?
Thanks for tip.
personnaly I use dolphin browser.
I have no sim card, so im waiting for v3, but this ROM looks great
walker.cz try habit browser, amongst all the other browsers its the lightest, fastest, smoothest and the most functional browser for x10.n

Movin' to Xperia SP

Hello everybody here! Yesterday i've bought my new smartphone, A SONY XPERIA SP, So I have some projects about get in developers world, for now i'm a simple flasher/tester. Now i'll move my projects from my old and warrior Xperia Neo V because i'll give it to my mother
For a moment i was think to buy the Moto G but the lacks of microSD and their weak SoC makes me discard this smartphone
Now, tell how is the performance, camera quality, benchmarks poins and the most important to me: BATTERY LIFE!
Is a great upgrade from Xperia Neo V to Xperia SP no? Is my return to mid-high end devices after one year since I sold my Xperia TX
PD: The developments threads here don't have too many activities if we compare vs Xperia 2011 devices, maybe is because Sony still give support to SP
PD2: I need to wait probably 2 or 3 months to the arrival from USA to my house in Venezuela, Thanks to my Fu#$€¿? courier

Okay so im sorry I dont know who u r :-/
Well I was also a dev for neo V, well mainly for Arc S but Arc S roms worked on all 2011 devices
I just recently upgraded from Arc S to xperia SP as well
My second android phone and tbh a very huge upgrade from Arc S
Well anywayz
Battery life of xperia SP is awesum
I get a whole day of heavy usage, about 6-8 hours of display usage
Benchmarks I get around 25k
Performance is awesum
Camera quality is okay, it is pretty good in normal light but not as good in low light
In 2.254 update there is a problem with ram management ( not a big problem just slightly) and also sometimes u have to press screen 3 times for it to open properly
^ I use stock 2.254 firmware with stock kernel
I use a slightly edited rom I made for me with a few tweaks and a few ram management fixes and debloated and etc
There is a LOT and I mean A LOT of bloatware on stock 2.254 so I recommend to root and remove some ****
Other then this the hardware of phone is awesum, gaming is awesum, few software issues which hopefully will be fixed with 4.3 update
Anywayz, welcome to the forum and hope u enjoy ur new phone

Wow! I'm so exited to get my new SP! I've used in the past your AnZumi ROM, very beauty and cool but the 512MB of RAM of Xperia 2011 Line don't help to much!
For now I'm using myself KK Based ROM with myself Kernel (Mikeioannina Sources) But I'm so lazy to maintain a Dev Thread in xda
Maybe in the future i'll post almost one Rom for SP

Ya the 512mb is very limiting
But not to brag but my AnZuMi rom still worked fine and wasnt too bad in performance
I was thinking of making AnZuMi for SP but with 4.3 we prob wont need a themed rom like AnZuMi cuz 4.3 has many custom themes
Maintaining a dev thread isn't that hard
U just have to constantly check xda
Go ahead with the rom, I will be sure to try it out
Best of luck with your work

Has root for .266? I'm still in .254 rooted and i have 300-400MB of RAM
Is very strange, in my old Neo V haves 380MB for use and everytime i was have 190-170 Free More tan 50% of total RAM
Here in Xperia SP the available RAM to user is around 800MB and the system takes 50%-60% leaving only 250-400Mb as i said before, Too many changes and i'm not an expert in 2013 devices I'll try using greenify and still

Yes - but it is a process of injecting the su/busybox into the system file with some files for meta.inf.
My result with modification of my country's .266 with root works well but not there were some hiccups - probably my fault in the cooking process...
I am currently back on .254 after trying CM10.2 and cooking my own .266 stock later. I kinda like .254 - fast and smooth, even with next 3D on it. I don't see many advantages of .266 after installing it 3 times...
Note: I don't play heavy games...
Am contemplating this pre-rooted .266 firmware based on CE ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658043

z1c with CM11 April 4 build - highly recommended

I finally had a bit of time to install the latest build of CM11 on my z1c this weekend. I've previously tried a few different ROMS:
- Stock rooted Sony KK 4.4 - too many bugs, not usable for me
- Stock rooted Sony JB 4.3 - works fine, just very hard to go back to JB after using KK daily driver (Moto X) for so long
The current build of CM11 for the z1c (as of this writing, April 4th) is really, really solid! It feels the way KK 4.4.2 should, not the hybrid, buggy Sony version! I don't mind not having the "Sony" apps (Walkman, etc) since I'm used to stock KK. I haven't done enough testing yet with the camera, but apparently it supports full 20mp resolution. Sure, you lose Sony's camera UI but I'm ok with that. Along with GravityBox I was able to get my z1c to feel like my Moto X (well, except active notifications!).
The CM11 build lacks Sony's bugs (the ones I had run into involved everything sound related - notifications, alarm, video playback, etc).
I highly recommend this route for anyone who has unlocked their bootloader and wants a very stock look and feel without Sony's bugs!

I am with liquid smooth ROM and I have no problems with the battery. It gets me through the day with 40% remaining at the end of the day. This is with moderate to heavy usage: listening to music on bluetooth headphones, push notifications and a few hours browsing.

[INFO] Comments about last update 4.4.4 Xperia Z

Hi everyone!
Just got the 4.4.4 from Pc companion.
It seems ok! Fast and smoother than 4.4.2
Battery drain is just ok but was better on 4.3 version.
RAM is occuping a lot for some apps:
Settings ~140MB
Google keyboard ~50MB
Facebook -113MB
Google search 56MB
New xperia live wallpaper ~100MB !!!????
Do you notice the same or similiar things??
I still notice temperature is increasing easily when looking on web, facebook, youtube after a while.
I still think 4.3 version (.101) was the best for battery and less heating on back cover.
I also tought "Move to SD" option was coming but nothing!
How you doing with this new update???
Aosp its the best option for me
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Free mobile app
Notification sometimes is partially opened and there are still problems with music but less than was on 4.4.2. Performance ok
The lag is finally gone, the Phone is really smooth.
Battery life definetly improved
Google location battery issue is finally solved.
There are still sound problems, the sound lags from time to time.
Overall, very pleased with the update
It's butter than the 4.4.2 specially buttery life but I still prefer paranoid android
I don't know you guys but with 4.2.2 and 4.3 this phone was awesome but now I can see he doesn't like this s***
that much...
Notification bar is not always so smoother and temp is going up easily. Maybe I should try to flash with flashtool.
Then if nothing is better i'll go for Cyanogen or an old stock update.
Please tell what you think after days and if you find issues!
There is one pure aosp but not on xda due some blabla, pabx one. In cm11 rootcloack is not working anymore. Pabx rom is the fastest and stabe for me, combined with snaphdr the photo quality is the same like in sony rom.

Love This Update!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally Bluetooth works with car controls. Couldnt use my steering controls or phonebook since 4.1. Phone very fluid and fast.
Hey guys, I know it's not the right thread, but I have one quick question.
I'm about to unlock my BL and would like to install some custom rom, aosp or cm based. So can someone recommend me some, with a lot of features, like double tap to wake etc... Feel free to pm me if for some reasone it's inappropriate to post it here...
Help is very appreciated, thanks.
Is it just me or is the default white balance settings not that great in this update:?
I came from KMV from what I can say between AOSP and Sony Stock ROM is that stock rom no matter what will always have the best battery life but in terms of security fixes AOSP :3

Hi, I don't see any problem.. white balamce is the same as always. Try to play with that setting and maybe you get better white.

So STOCK ROM are best for battery? I would like to try CM11 but battery life is very important for me. What you think?
Ok
I just flashed it today and after few minutes flashed other non stock ROM
It was disappointing... In other pages saying WIFI IMPROVED but it wasn't
I've faced a WiFi problems like dropping and no internet access while I'm actually connected. Same as other stock ROMs
The speed was great. Battery life was ok
But the WiFi is a huge problem for me. That's why I flashed custom ROM....

I dunno bro but my home WiFi is pretty weak. So I got drop outs but it's perfectly fine on custom ROMs
Maybe it's yes better than 4.4.2 but my home WiFi is weak and that's may be the reason
But I can say it's need little improvements

Google wallet tap and pay works on this update as HCE is finally enabled. I'm using it on a c6606 with the generic ES update on it.
What?

I flashed the generic es version of the 4.4.4 update onto my wife's c6606. I had previously read that NXP HCE support was added into android after 4.4.2. When I opened up wallet, I was asked if I wanted to set up tap and pay. It now works, though I'm sure all the general wallet restrictions apply (us only...).

Xperia Z2 Stock Android Lollipop vs Marshmallow

I've been using the stock xperia marshmallow rom for a while now and i have always felt dissatisfied with the performance. It didn't seem like a flagship device. I know its 2 years old but my brother bought a Lenovo Zuk Z1 recently and it has the same processor, same ram and apps were flying around so smoothly on it compared to my Z2. That made me so disappointed because Z2 is supposed to be an equal atleast if not better since the specs are similar and its sony vs Cyanogen. Although Zuk Z1 was on lollipop so i went back to the stock lollipop on my z2 and things are so smooth and fast. Apps open rather quickly compared to marshmallow. Is it just me or others are noticing the performance decrease too?
Have you perform a hard reset on your device lately? It might help.

Yes you are right bro. I have same problem with my Z2 on Marshmallow rom
Z2 MM plain out sucks in comparison to Lollipop. Also many devices with the same spec or lower seem to do a better job at running MM. It's not just performance, but things like call quality and Wi-Fi have taken a hit, even on the latest MM builds. So much for the "upgrade". Maybe Sony is trying to make us upgrade our phones, but their software team is seriously lacking some skill here... I'm back on deodex LP and loving it! Can't think of a reason to update at the mo...

Yes. I've tried everything from removing all the bloat to reducing the number of apps i use to not installing any app at all. I used the fresh rom for a while with just some basic apps like fb, chrome and hike. There are some minor lags here and there and even the settings app takes a second to load after it has come up on screen. On lollipop it just flies up from bottom and thats it. No loading time.

Good for you mate. I just like the xperia x ui and the now on tap, although i could live without it but i just don't like the stock lollipop or marshmallow look now. I need the xperia x look. And so i'm compromising on performance.
So far marshmallow has been disappointing indeed. Permissions are great but not much else. Decreased performance & poor multitasking, I would have rather stayed on lollipop until they fix the issues or perhaps use a custom Rom since Sony will likely stop updating the z2

After using MM for over a month, I am back to Lollipop.. LP is much better at the moment.
MM might need more time. I hope future updates could make it better than LP.
