[Q] S Voice from wake up not working - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my SM-G900I yesterday. Voice wake up doesn't seem to work. In fact the 'Hi Galaxy' Command doesn't work except by double tapping home button and in car mode. The Always Mic On Service is running but get no response from command. Tried changing command through settings and does no different.
Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix?
Thx

Yea, I've been googling this issue too. Ihave the Sprint S5. From what I've read it seems that the latest update to KitKat 4.4.2 has broke the wake up from sleep for Svoice. Every once in a while I AM able to say OKAY GOOGLE from the home screen . But even that's random. Either way I'm not sure if this is a Samsung issue or a Google issue...meaning... who the heck is going to fix this!
Edit
I just remembered there is a work around of sorts that I read. It was said that you can enable CAR MODE in settings and then s voice will work. However I am not sure if you give up anything by doing this ie phone calls, Internet. etc

No keyboard or unlock sounds after 4G uprgade

Just wondering if I'm the only one. I got my Xoom back from Moto the other day after the 4G radio upgrade. Haven't had much chance to play with it until now. Finally got around to reinstalling my Thumb Keyboard that I had become accustomed to before. I noticed there was no sounds on key presses. I went into the options and made sure the key press sounds were on, and turned its volume all the way up. Still no sounds. Double checked the Android settings to make sure all my volumes were up. They were. Still no key press sounds. I swapped back to the stock Android keyboard and made sure it was set to have key press sounds - still nothing.
After a bit more toying around I realized that while the Android setting for playing sounds on locking and unlocking the device is set to on,I'm not getting those either.
However, media plays. Music, videos, etc... all work fine.
So, A) am I doing something wrong? Is there a hidden volume setting somewhere other than the 3 in the Android sound settings section?, or B) did moto somehow screw mine up?, or C) is this a known issue post-update, and I just suck at searching the forums to find others with the same problem?

Nobody else? Great...

Honestly, I don't remember my Xoom ever making noises on key clicks.
It's not that huge for me, I would like it like the Touchpad has the clickity clack on each key press. But I have no recollection of my Xoom ever having it. I use the Swiftkey for Tablets keyboard though also so I don't know.
Did you ever solve this problem? Because my Xoom started doing this a couple of days ago. I've seen a few posts about it, but none with solutions.
Go to apps/all/android keyboard
Force stop
Clear data
Restart Xoom
Enjoy

[Q] Wake on bluetooth press

I have a bluetooth enabled stereo in my car. When pressing the button to initiate a call using voice command, my phone will not wake. If the phone is awake and I push the button the it will bring up my default voice dialing software. Is anyone aware of a way to get my nexus 4 to wake on bluetooth press?

Hi!
Have you enabled a security lock ( PIN/pattern )? That could cause this, I believe.

I haven't. I was thinking along the same lines though. Initially, I had the phone configured to unlock with a swipe. Then I disabled that too. Right now the phone as no security and no lock screen and it still won't wake the phone up.

Which ROM build are you on? (just in case it's a ROM bug)
Otherwise, please re-state (a bit more clearly) the procedure you're following and I'll test it out with my car.

I am fully stock right now, have not even rooted yet.
On my car stereo (and most other bluetooth devices) there is a button that initiates interaction with the phone. I call it a bluetooth press (the phone is already paired and connected to the bluetooth device). If I am logged into my phone and i press this button, my N4 brings up my default list of programs to make a voice call. However, if my phone is sleeping and I press this button the phone won't wake up. The goal here is to be able to use the N4 hands free with voice commands but if I have to press the power button and swipe to enter the phone, it kind of defeats the purpose.
I know Tasker plus autovoice plug-in will work here

With root you can even get through pattern lock via an other Tasker plug-in called secure settings.

Thanks for the lead. I checked it out it has alot of cool features but you are not able to set an event based on a bluetooth press to start autovoice when the phone is asleep.
I believe you can, that is where autovoice comes in I've seen some tutorials precisely about what you are trying to achieve.

In the tutorials I have seen it shows the phone on and then responding to bluetooth. I have not seen any where it will wake up the phone. If you can point me to a tutorial where it does that I would be grateful.
It is just surprising to me in general how difficult it is to wake droids on bluetooth. I can't be the only guy who is trying to implement a hands free setup in my car.

All right, I've flashed stock and CarbonROM; and tested both.
It's working fine with my car - and it's an old car, with bluetooth 3.0/2.0, I believe. I paired my N4 with the car's media system. It has a separate display and mic, with separate buttons for call functions on both the steering wheel and the system.
I press the Up/Down buttons to browse my contacts on the car's display and when I press the call button, the phone's display switched on, and starts calling the person. No problems or lag.
Weird; maybe it's a car problem?

Geez, thanks for testing all of that. I am sorry to say though that my problem is different then what you are describing. I too can press the phone button on my stereo, bring up my contacts, select one and it will wake up the phone and call them. What I am trying to do is use the bluetooth press, similar to when you press the bluetooth button on a headset. I want that to wake up the phone so i can use voice options to place calls. Scrolling through my contacts on my stereo, while a working solution, is very distracting for me in terms of watching the road. The goal here is to press the bluetooth button, wake the phone and launch a voice based app like google now, or vlingo/dragon..etc so I can speak commands to call contacts, send texts etc.

Hahaha, darn - i didn't understand your problem then. Sorry!
I don't have a way to test that, but using Tasker sounds like a good method. Maybe these articles/links might help?
http://lifehacker.com/control-your-phone-using-your-voice-with-tasker-and-aut-514487972 - The second paragraph might help you with your problem?
Also, this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autovoice&hl=en
Hmmm - the first screenshot and the second review ( by Greg Resler ) seem to address your problem...
And, the Tasker help guide also seems to have a way to setup calling through Google Now voice search - http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide/en/help/ah_index.html. Look for the "Voice Command" heading.
Note - I don't have any affiliation with these apps/sites. I'm only using Google searches to get this info.

[Q] Driving Mode - S Voice Issues

Ok, so i have an NFC tag to turn my phone onto Driving mode and enable bluetooth and load S Voice. Works perfect.
2 issues.
When bluetooth connects and i have S voice on, it no longer lets me say " Hi galaxy" instead i now have to touch the screen? Am i missing something?
Also after a phone call comes in, the phone doesnt go back to S voice and sit there waiting for a command, instead it locks the phone and then, i have to unlock the phone whilst in the car to get the S voice back on the screen.
Any ideas?

got "Car mode" working on ATT S5! clue to Svoice wake while locked?

so as you may or may not know or care, "car mode" is not available in the notification pull down and apparently was replaced by "drive mode" or whatever the dumb app name from ATT is. I think the Tmobile/Verizon S5's may have Car Mode though.
who cares right?
well car mode is sort of related to SVoice in that nobody can seem to get the S5 to wakeup from a lock screen/display off using a voice trigger like the Moto X or other older Galaxy phones.
Anyways, I tried to use Tasker to run a "Car mode" task, and the first time I did it, a few days ago, it said "not available on this device"..oh well
But I tried it tonight and for some reason it worked!
Now the phone shows the car mode icon in the notification bar.
Maybe this is a clue of some kind that Svoice voice trigger while locked/display off is somehow achievable?
And a juicy further tidbit:
The blue LED blinks about every 6 seconds while the screen is off. I have tasker enabled and no new notifications in the menu bar.
Isnt the blue-LED blink supposed to be related to voice recording with the screen off?? Is this a clue that the Hexagon low power DSP is listening even though it doesnt work for some reason?
Ive tried to get the phone to wakeup while locked but I cant.

since I wrote that I've uninstalled tasker for other reasons
the task I made was absolutely bare bones IIRC.
in fact there was no "event"..I got car mode running by making it the "action" or whatever and just running it stand-alone with the arrow

[Q] My Phone Keeps Beeping

I just recently bought my Note 4, and have to say it is the single best phone I have ever owned lol. I am still trying to learn about it. I mean it is Rooted and I do not even know what that means LOL
Anyways the reason I joined is because I need help. This has been happen off and on, my phone keeps beeping every time I shake my phone. I did not know you can shake the phone and even have it do anything (I need to really learn more about my phone haha). When I am out walking the beep drives me bonkers! It will even bleep during the start of a phone call. I recorded the sound and really hope that I can upload it.
Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide. I am sure it is just something simple, but I am not seeing it
Hi there,
A simple Google search brings me here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/282858-2-tone-beep-sound-constantly-playing.html
Did you try turning off NFC to see if this causes the problem?
(This doesn't seem to happen on my handset when turned on btw.)
Else turn off Orientation Lock maybe?
(Seeing the fact you say it occurs more when you move or shake your handset.)
Question: Does the sound also play if the profile is on silent mode?
Kind regards, Stefan.
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question
I came across that same thread when I was searching for answers before coming here. It did not find it relevant because my NFC is not on.
I was able to kind of see a screen before silly me accidentally hit the back button. I did not see the name of the app, but it was a white background with a picture of an orange mic and switch on the bottom in orange that says sonar. There was probably other things on the page but that is all I saw for the split second I saw the screen. Then it is after it started doing the beeping. When I look at my apps the only ones I have that have anything to do with my mic is S Voice, Voice Recorder and Voice Search, and not one of them are what I saw. The beeping I am hearing same kind of sound I would hear if I tap Voice Search, but that is not what is causing the beeps.
Hi again,
It does sound like the Voice Search beep, but it seems different.
You could try to disable double tap home for Svoice but I doubt if it would work:
Double tap the home button to*open S Voice.
Press the menu button in the top right of the app.
Tap “Settings.”Uncheck “Open via the home key.”
Did you check the screen orientation lock yet?
I assume you have rebooted your handset right?
Kind regards, Stefan.
We are becoming fast friends! LOL
Yes it does sound the voice search, and it does go away after I reboot my phone, I would just really like to know what this is though so I can try to prevent it from happening or turn it off when it does happen.
Again, thank you so much for caring enough to try and help me.
An other thing that ia worth mentioning is under:
Accessibility these is: direct acces.
When enabled it enables certain user set options by 3x pressing the home button.
But I could not find any option that enabled this beeping.
It could very well be a third party app causing it.
Anyways good luck, maybe anyone else has some input.
Kind regards, Stefan.
You might try safe mode to see if an app is causing it. It will temporarily disable all non-system apps. See if that fixes it. If so, it is an app you installed. m.androidcentral (I can't post links yet so change this to a '.') com/galaxy-note-4-safe-mode
