I have a bluetooth enabled stereo in my car. When pressing the button to initiate a call using voice command, my phone will not wake. If the phone is awake and I push the button the it will bring up my default voice dialing software. Is anyone aware of a way to get my nexus 4 to wake on bluetooth press?

Hi!
Have you enabled a security lock ( PIN/pattern )? That could cause this, I believe.

I haven't. I was thinking along the same lines though. Initially, I had the phone configured to unlock with a swipe. Then I disabled that too. Right now the phone as no security and no lock screen and it still won't wake the phone up.

Which ROM build are you on? (just in case it's a ROM bug)
Otherwise, please re-state (a bit more clearly) the procedure you're following and I'll test it out with my car.

I am fully stock right now, have not even rooted yet.
On my car stereo (and most other bluetooth devices) there is a button that initiates interaction with the phone. I call it a bluetooth press (the phone is already paired and connected to the bluetooth device). If I am logged into my phone and i press this button, my N4 brings up my default list of programs to make a voice call. However, if my phone is sleeping and I press this button the phone won't wake up. The goal here is to be able to use the N4 hands free with voice commands but if I have to press the power button and swipe to enter the phone, it kind of defeats the purpose.
I know Tasker plus autovoice plug-in will work here

With root you can even get through pattern lock via an other Tasker plug-in called secure settings.

Thanks for the lead. I checked it out it has alot of cool features but you are not able to set an event based on a bluetooth press to start autovoice when the phone is asleep.
I believe you can, that is where autovoice comes in I've seen some tutorials precisely about what you are trying to achieve.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
In the tutorials I have seen it shows the phone on and then responding to bluetooth. I have not seen any where it will wake up the phone. If you can point me to a tutorial where it does that I would be grateful.
It is just surprising to me in general how difficult it is to wake droids on bluetooth. I can't be the only guy who is trying to implement a hands free setup in my car.

All right, I've flashed stock and CarbonROM; and tested both.
It's working fine with my car - and it's an old car, with bluetooth 3.0/2.0, I believe. I paired my N4 with the car's media system. It has a separate display and mic, with separate buttons for call functions on both the steering wheel and the system.
I press the Up/Down buttons to browse my contacts on the car's display and when I press the call button, the phone's display switched on, and starts calling the person. No problems or lag.
Weird; maybe it's a car problem?

Geez, thanks for testing all of that. I am sorry to say though that my problem is different then what you are describing. I too can press the phone button on my stereo, bring up my contacts, select one and it will wake up the phone and call them. What I am trying to do is use the bluetooth press, similar to when you press the bluetooth button on a headset. I want that to wake up the phone so i can use voice options to place calls. Scrolling through my contacts on my stereo, while a working solution, is very distracting for me in terms of watching the road. The goal here is to press the bluetooth button, wake the phone and launch a voice based app like google now, or vlingo/dragon..etc so I can speak commands to call contacts, send texts etc.

Hahaha, darn - i didn't understand your problem then. Sorry!
I don't have a way to test that, but using Tasker sounds like a good method. Maybe these articles/links might help?
http://lifehacker.com/control-your-phone-using-your-voice-with-tasker-and-aut-514487972 - The second paragraph might help you with your problem?
Also, this app : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autovoice&hl=en
Hmmm - the first screenshot and the second review ( by Greg Resler ) seem to address your problem...
And, the Tasker help guide also seems to have a way to setup calling through Google Now voice search - http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide/en/help/ah_index.html. Look for the "Voice Command" heading.
Note - I don't have any affiliation with these apps/sites. I'm only using Google searches to get this info.

When my device P3600 received call or sms, the device is powered up, and then all the keys are active. If the device in case some key can be press (by mistake) and activate a program on this situation.
Does any one have a solution for that?
Use the Device Lock Feature in your Today Screen.
I do not like to add one more line to the dotay screen
can I use it without add it to the dotay screen?
If you don't want an additional line on the today screen then the other option is to set the device to request a password after only one minute of inactivity (under "Settings", "Personal", "Lock").

10x, but this is not help, the lock is form power up the the device, and the device is automitly powered up when received call or sms
I use a program called "device lock" that can be mapped to one of the buttons, I use button one when you hold for a few seconds. The app locks the phone and turns off the screen, so when you recieve a call or sms the screen will turn back on but the phone will still be locked.
Have a search on the forums here for it, that where i got it from.
Cheers

in this case you can not aswers a call, when received one - because when the device is lock there is no quick way to answer that call.
or I miss someting here.

Yes you can answer a call, the device lock only lets you use the power, answer, and hangup buttons. When the call is finished it is still locked, unless you unlock it.
I use this one. http://www.mr2-power.com/downloads/DeviceLock.CAB
10x, GREAT, this will do the job

I am glad you found a way to solve your problem but I don't understand why my suggestion should not work. If you set your device to request a pin after one minute of inactivity if you receive a message the keys will still be blocked until you enter your pin. (I am talking about device PIN not SIM PIN).
And if you receive a call the answer button works even without entering a PIN.

Your solution works too, the only thing is sometimes (for example) I'm sitting on the couch using my phone for email or surfing and watching a TV program. I stop to watch something interesting for 3 minutes and my phone has locked itself with the pin lock. I have to enter the code each time this happens. It can get annoying. If I use devicelock, I lock the keys when I need to, obviously when I'm at home and my phone is on the coffee table, it doesn't need to be locked. I set my device pin lock at 2 hours, that should give the phone enough time to lock itself if I loose it...hopefully.
yeah... but when you loose your phone the device lock doesn´t matter. only reinstall a Rom and your phone can be used.

Yes, very true, but at least they won't be able to see all my contacts, appointments, notes etc. That being said, I always use FlexWallet to encrypt all sensitive information which is synchronized to my laptop.
touch screen and buttons can be locked during a call?
I followed up this thread and found it very interesting. But it does't focus all the problem:
when call's come in, your solutions are ok.
But when I want to make a call, I found there is a nasty *****, clicking to call waiting or to head speaker on, opening a note or calling my voice box etc. etc.
Then I found that it was my ear or my fingers, clicking on the touch screen or my fingers clicking hardbuttons.
I think tat during a call on the normal speaker the only buttons to be active should be "hang on" and "loud speaker on". With loudspeaker or BT on, or call terminated,s screen and buttons should come back to full function.
Anybody knows a solution to this?
Regards, and keep on, its a great forum. i love it.

Hmm this is just "device lock" that we can see in HTCplugin. In my case it does not turn off the screen. It just locks my device. Is everyone has "turn off the sreen" functionality?

I lastly tried the on-off button to block screen during outgoing calls.
I never did this before because I thought it would cancel the active call, but it doesn't.
Ok, I see it's more or less doing what I want. But it's very unconfortable. When I hit it bad, or don't hit it at all, or forget to press it?
Isn't there a posibility to have the screnn sensibility off, only sensibility, until the call is either ended, passed to outer speaker, headset or BT? or perhaps simply until I give it free manually?
It would improve safe usage of that phone remarkably, I think.
If not :-( , well, I allways can press the button ;-)
curious for what solutions you'll find on your problems with incoming calls. Perhaps that will give me an Idea.
Chears
I've complained about this on just about every major forum I have found. Hopefully, someone will eventually write an app to allow personalized device locking. I would set my trinity to not wake for ANYTHING and have ONLY the power button active. I would prefer to get audible alerts (or vibrate) to incoming calls, alarms and messages. Pressing power would be the only way to turn the device on. PIN features only annoy me. This would be very useful anytime I am not willing to immediately respond to a notification - driving, having dinner, in a meeting, etc. It could significantly improve battery life. I store mine in my pocket and accidental button press is a problem as well.
This is the deal.
I'd like to be able to remote control the music player in TFLO 3D. That means, 1 click=Play/Pause, 2 clicks=Next track, 3 clicks=Previous track.
The reason is as much as I like my HTC I don't want to take it out of its pouch, fiddle around with power button and flick the screen...
I've tried HButton and AEButton Plus (the latter works partially). I've managed to map the Volume up button for 1 click=volume up, Long hold=previous track. The opposite for volume button down. These buttons don't get locked in case I put the phone in standby and have the headphones connected. Works even with S2U2 if setup properly.
BUT this doesn't solve the problem. I have a perfect Hardbutton on the mic.
Now, The green button or call button is said to work just like the mic button. But that is not true. If I reprogram greenbutton with AEButton I still only get one option - HOLD mic = Voice dialer. Disable voice dialer and I have nothing. The hardbutton exists - but can not be programmed. And it is not the green button.
Anyone out there - come on... XDA forum unite. I can't be the only person annoyed with this lacking feature that existed on my Sony Walkman Casette player!!
How about using this? I have not tried it myself though.

Friends,
I would like to start a collection of tips on actually USING the Tab as a phone (full time). I will start off with some very obvious tips, and hope for your input.
1. Use a Bluetooth headset (or something like the LG HBM-700 Style-i Bluetooth Headset Pen)
2. Add "Direct Dial" shortcuts to your home screen to connect you to specific contacts with one click (hold down on the home screen, select Shortcut, then select Direct Dial).
Desired: The ability to bring up the phone by simply pressing in a special combination one of the (very few!) hardware buttons on the device (such as the Volume button)
Desired: The ability to get rid of the lock screen all together, so that when I turn on the Tab right away I am at my home screen without needing to "slide to unlock".
Desired: The ability to make the Tab car-friendly... I would like to easily use it while driving (with a bluetooth headset) without purchasing a car mount. Does the Tab have "Car Mode" like other Android devices?
Your input is much appreciated!
There are several apps that eliminate the need for a lock screen. I use this free one and it works very well on the Tab. When you push the power button the home screen is displayed, no unlock to worry about.
http://market.android.com/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock
The Tab does support Car mode without the dock, install the Car Home app from the posting below and add a shortcut to your home screen, when you are in the car just launch the Car Home app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922601
There are other third party car apps available in the Marketplace that are more customizable than the Samsung app, one of the more popular ones is Car Dock Home v3.

I'm not sure if this is in the spirit of the original post, but I've been using Skype quite successfully with my Sprint Galaxy Tab and a corded headset. Although it works without the headset, I prefer not to broadcast both sides of my conversation throughout the room.
I read somewhere (maybe here?) that Skype is working on being able to use the forward facing camera for two-way video but after seeing myself, I'd just as soon not.
I'm not sure why I need to be able to use my SGT as a phone, but hey, what are toys for, if not to play?
Unfortunately I have no experience with Skype on the Tab, but I'd like to thank the second poster for his links to the Car App and other useful stuff.
Keep it coming!

I also would like to figure out how to set the Tab into Silent mode so that when it rings it does not even vibrate... but selectively, without having to go into the Settings menu every time.
After using the Tab as my primary phone for one week I must admit defeat. I admin defeat probably not for a reason you could guess...
Carrying the Tab in a jeans pocket regularily causes BACKPAIN! It took me all of one week to realize that when I have the Tab in my jeans pocket my leg muscles seem to be pressured in a strange way which causes me to sit and walk a bit crooked... which quickly casues backpain! The problem seems the be the constant pressure against my leg.
I am sorry to admit defeat, I really wanted to use the Tab for all my tasks.
Get looser jeans :-} ????
Get a small messenger bag to hold the tab, it is not that difficult.
I have the problems of carrying the tab around as well. I ended up purchasing the blue tooth from samsung Modus 3500. I was amazed at how well the music quality is streamed, and the freedom of walking away from it up stair to down stair

That is simple, if you swipe your finger from the notification bar downwards, it opens a slide out drawer where you can press the Silent button on top. That silences your phone until you go back and press the Silent button again.
Cheers,
its wierd, when i put sipdroid on my droid x the gv setup button is at the homescreen... but not on my tab?!
nvm it doesnt show up on my DX anymore either?!
I have the following issues:
1. I can't get GV to verify my number using sipdroid because of no DMTF! which makes it hard to be used as a phone these days with all automated screens you goo through before talking to a person
2. I have 3 old bluetooth headsets but none of them worked with my tab
nice, appreciate this
I'd like to use voice talk when driving by double pressing the "home" key. However this only works if the lock screen is not displayed. I'd like to avoid swiping the lock screen to then double press home to start voice talk? Perhaps there is a way of disabling the lock screen temporarily when driving, or maybe enabling the double home key? I am currently using the lock screen supplied by Executive Assistant but could switch to Widget Locker if that makes a difference.
Thanks,
James
I use extended profiles when driving. It detects there is a charger plugged in and doesn't turn off the screen. You could also use something like Extended Controls which has a toggle for turning off the password/pattern lock.

Sorry, it is setting profiles not extended profiles. It allows all kinds of criteria to be set and applies profiles based on the rules you create.
I have a rule for "at home" so the phone mutes when I'm at home between 22:00 and 06:30.
When I'm in the car with the charger attached and the 3.5mm jack plugged in it fires up BT, GPS, turns the screen up, looses the screen timeout and fires up Power Amp.
When just a charger is plugged in it fires up BT, GPS, turns the screen up and looses the screen timeout.
It really is a great automation app and you can set it to use rules based on time, calendar, charging and so much more.
If you have the Wake Up command activated you can still use Voice Talk while the phone's locked by screaming "Hi Galaxy" at it. If Motion's enabled you can tap it and Voice Talk will activate (if it's on).
Anyone figured how to use the bundled headphones to control the playlist?
I can't get next/previous to work even once. I installed Sony's SmartKey which helped a bit (JAYS remote is quite a miss, and Headset control Pro is virtual 99% miss).
Coming from SE's Wxxx and Xperia series as my previous phones for some 4 years, I find this to be... unacceptable.
TIA.
I can't find any useful google result on this topic. Most sites report only Play/pause, not next/previous. I only noticed 2 threads mention next/previous but one died, and one was "hey, it works all of a sudden".
I use "Headset Button Controller" by Christoph Kober (paid app) and works ok. 2 taps next and 3 taps previous and restore volume on headset plug in. These are the ones i use, it has many more.

Tried it - but it is not accurate also
It is as if the button has some sort of mechanical delay?
Do elaborate on "not accurate also"
I press the button 2 / 3 times with a ~0.5 sec delay between presses. Did you go in the advanced setting on Click speed ? I have it set to medium.

I tried Slow/Very slow, Medium and Very Fast just in case. In all cases, it either doesn't detect 3 clicks (does nothing) or it detects it as a single click.
(I reckon it could be detecting it as several single clicks, just taking time to respond - instead of Previous it does Start/stop).
Also, even when it works, the Previous does a Rewind, not a Previous, unless the player is stopped.
A Previous (2x) instead rewinds and does previous, but that is noticed as a double previous literally (i.e. I can tell it rewinds, tries to play the song, but goes to Previous again).
I donno how to tell if the headset might be broken or something else is wrong, since I have no other to test with
Any other ideas?
