Hey there! I have a Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 (HLTEXX) and have noticed that since flashing a custom rom, (Carbon Rom) recorded video has very low audio.
I went back to stock 4.3 to test and recorded video sounded normal, the same as video recorded on my previous device, an i9300 running Carbon Rom.
I have tested on my HLTEXX with Temasek's Unofficial CM11, with and without Temasek kernel, Official CM11, with and without Temasek Kernel/ Lean Kernel and again with Carbon Rom with Temasek Kernel and Lean Kernel.
When using one of the mentioned kernels, I used Trickster Mod app to try and increase the Mic Gain for video camera.
With Temasek Kernel, as soon as I ticked to apply settings, they reverted back to default. With Lean Kernel, the values appeared to stick but as soon as video was recorded, the values had reverted back to default and recorded video was still quiet.
Does anyone have any ideas how to increase mic gain when recording video? Or is it simply a case of waiting for more kernel sources?
I would appreciate any input, bearing in mind I am just an enthusiast with a basic knowledge of flashing roms and customising my android devices!
Thanks in advance

Haha! No one seems to mention it and mostly my queries have gone unacknowledged, hence the post. But Carbon on G+ were very helpful, Matt went through some troubleshooting and let me test a modified media_profiles file, which increased the audio bit rate and made it stereo but the volume wasn't changed. The low volume is most noticeable when viewing the clips on a PC.

Out of interest, did you come from 4.3 or 4.4 stock rom? I'm wondering if the bootloader would make any difference, but don't know enough about that sort of thing to be sure. I'm considering testing a 4.3 custom rom, then perhaps flashing a stock 4.4 and rooting/ flashing Carbon again, but there's no going back then!

At least with you on 4.3 and me on 4.4 we know it's not that.

The reason is headphone audio hissing. I am such an audiophile and cant stand it. I have few questions for you. Please, dont tell me to try JB myself, because i will loose all my apps, data and so on. I just want to be sure about returning. Thanks.
1. Is the performance much worse comparing to KK?
2. Do you know any KK roms that has no headphone hissing?

I dont know which version your on but the audio hissing was said to be fixed with d80220c. Theres also an option in xposed that has a fix for it. And from what i remember jb didn't perform any worse that kk. I don't think you'll notice any difference unless you compare them side to side.

20c - was that the version that came in may/june? It didn't fix it - some people reported that the problem disappeared, but for others(like me) it remained.
In my case it made me switch to using custom KitKat ROM's. I've never had the problem since doing that. CM11, CloudyFlex, G3 ports and now Pardus Sensation Black has all been good in that aspect. I've used Dorimanx's kernel with all but CM11. So you don't need to go back to JB.
You could try and just flash Dorimanx's kernel if you want a fast fix and don't change ROM. I think that might be enough. But if not - switching to one of the ROM:s mentioned definitely fixes it.
There's a monster thread here about it. Im sure by now there would be several fixes or work arounds.
If anyone can tell me how to get good sound on aosp though, I'd love to here it. It seems no matter what I do I can't get it to sound as good as stock no matter how many mods or kernel tweaks I make.

There is one fix at G2 tweakbox, didn't worked for me. Also temporaly fix you set from from hidden meniu, but once phone reboots you have to refix it again. Some people claim the sound was fixed with the most recent update. No other fixes
Since there's not a whole lot of development right now for our device beyond slight modifications to stock images, I thought I'd start a thread on the best combinations I've found so far of the latest ROM's and kernels and such there are to choose from currently.
I've had the best luck so far with Elixir v.2.0.1. In my experience it's the only one so far that doesn't have a bug or anything that isn't working in it. It's missing an advanced reboot menu unlike the others but beyond that it has a very nice subtle theme change making colors darker and easy on the eyes and it's snappy and decently conservative on it's own. This ROM combined with Sensei version 8 kernel is fantastic!!! My battery increased 135% after undervolting 24mV and upping the clock speed to 2.9 (governor interactive) along with replacing MPDecision with Intelliplug on Conservative settings. There's even less stutter than in the stock installation and phone doesn't get nearly as warm.
A lot of people using the later Sensei releases are complaining of boot loops so I recommend staying at release 8 for now until the issues calm down in the next release or so. The developer has done a fantastic job and is working very hard on the kernel! Be sure and thank him.
What combinations are you guys using and what are your results?
Running elixir as well with lean kernel great rom no bugs very fast and like you said i like the subtle theme nothing too far from stock. My battery life isnt that great maybe i will try undervolting and trying the sensei kernel tweaks.
I haven't been tempted to flash any Roms so far. I really enjoy this phone the way it is.

Me too I never stay stock, but like this one. I am rooted and am happy with the tweaks I can make on my own, so far.
Euphoria + LeanKernel.
Rastapop is nice too.
I'm running the latest Validus ROM with latest Sensei Kernel. Both ROM and Kernel are SaberMod compiled with many more optimizations, they're a great combo.
RIPng has rebased his kernel and removed a few features to gain stability.. In my testing it's been very stable. If anyone tries his latest release just hold off on using the most recently added governors, there is more work to be done on them.

You're not missing much at the moment by not flashing a ROM since all of them are just barely modified stock images! I know what you guys mean though. I've never been as happy with a stock installation as I am on Lollipop on this particular phone anyways. Google has really come a long way! It's pretty impressive when you continue to refine an OS to the point that flash junkies like us are even happy leaving it alone!

The Liquid Devs have stated that once their builds are more stable they will open a thread up on XDA . The Validus Dev has hinted towards possibly just keeping his builds on Google+
I've just been checking DrDevs for Liquid and I get updates on Google+ for Validus. Nice to see more features being added back into Lollipop though.
Slimlp and lean kernel here. Slim is the snappiest performance ROM I've tried. It just opens everything quickly and battery has been pretty good. It's going to take a beast of a rom to make me switch. This is my opinion but slim is the best ROM ATM.

I've only tried 1 so far, Sinless rom based off the google image and not the AOSP version. Everything that wasn't streaming seems to have been fixed at this point. I know a lot of issues were related to a few ROM's who changed the Android System Version value from 5.0 to something custom like 5.0 + 5.0.1 hybrid and caused in compatibility with apps expecting 5.0 to be in that field.

I'm on BlissPop that's CM12 based and the only issue I'm having is with proximity sensor during calls which (I hope) should not be to hard to fix. I had 0 reboot's, FC's and any noticeable bug's. From my experience CM12 is more stable as it is now than CM11 was on S3 at the end of it's development cycle(awful battery life, call audio cut offs, static from the speaker, constant camera problems etc - non of those are present on CM12 on S5). It's faster and more battery frendly then even ultra debloated TW roms souch as XtreStoLite.
Why don't you make a nandroid of your CM11 setup, try CM12 for a few days and try it out for yourself?

The stock camera app as well as the google camera has nothing to brag about in terms of IQ or options, but replace them with A Better Camera or Camera Snap HDR and you will have the same, maybe even better results than on TW. Never used the fingerprint sensor, it's hit and miss even on TW so I never tried it on CM.
BTW the proximity sensor is now fixed on BlissPop and I simply can't find an argument to stay on CM11/TW

Judge for yourself, here is an unprocessed shot (I baked it ) with A Better Camera on BlissPop, in not so great lightning conditions.
I was having WiFi disconnects while using custom system profiles, turned them off and don't have an issue since. Tasker ot AutomateIt is better at it so no complaints there. I was on stock TW for a month before trying Bliss and battery seems as good or even better, especially with KT kernel. I get 2 days with medium usage easy.

O I have been using touchwiz for a while and wanted to test our stock or CM12 based ROM just to see.
The main issue is on normal calls people hear themselves slightly depending on how high the voulume is set on the device
This was never an issue with touchwize and I tested all the following ROMs and the same result. If ytou lower the voulme the issue goes away but its hard to hear sometimes.
Im not sure if this is a noise suppression issue or something else but I know people have commented on these issues in the threads of these ROMs
Anyone aware of a fix for this?
Thanks

Since issue was occurring with all 12.1 type ROMs (tested PAC man yesterday as well) figured at this point the issue isnt related to 1 specific ROM
which one are you running? Also what model are you using?
So it seems the issue is CM12.1 roms and phone cases and how echo cancellation works vs TZ roms
I tried a bunch of different cases from different brands at best buy and same thing.Otterbox, Trdent, Bodyglove, cheap brand
Seems TW firmware is better at echo cancellation then CM12.1
Volume on CM12.1 must be about 60% or under for other people not to hear their own voices

opencamera sucked for me, confusing interface, crashed on cm-12.1-20151226-NIGHTLY-klte (havent tried it again after moving to CM13), doesnt do anything for 60 or 120fps so i'll just use AOSP/stock CM until snapcamera is enabled... which appears to be so soon omg such excite, very anticipation http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/127285/
Non-TW based camera apps will suffer from low voice recording. There is a workaround for AOSP ROMs but it is not as good as TW.

qualcomm made a reference 'snapdragon camera' app for their processors, CM team has been working on porting that code for devices & material design
sultan's rom for oneplusone has used this app for a few months now, he has also submitted code updates to the CM version, i think lg g3 users have also had a port of the app to play with
all 3 of these devices (s5, o+o, g3) use the same 'Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801' chip, hence snapcamera, CM is enabling it on various devices over time
i am unclear on how many features there are, but possible ones are picture modes, shutter control, histogram, sharpness, anti banding (artifacts from 50 or 60hz light bulbs), denoise, timelapse, & i am expecting... hoping... for 60fps & 120fps

Image quality wise, compared to TW and CM's camera, it basically just have very low noise reduction which causes less blurry pics on low light and which results in more detail
