Forgive me if this is somewhere else. I've searched fairly thoroughly and can't seem to find my answer. I just flashed cyanogenmod, first time, and when the phone was going through setup it linked to my gmail account and loaded all of my apps. Does this remove the need to install gapps? All the icons seem to be present and are functional.

I used to update ROMs on my Motorola Defy, but I never had to reinstall Gaaps.
When you update PA, you have to reinstall Gaaps (if I have understand well), is it the same for ofther Nexus 4 ROMs ?
I'm really confused, thanks
PS: Do you still have to update ROMs using recovery (flash .zip) ? Or is there apps which do that ? I heard CyanogenMod have now an OTA update function, is it the same for PA ?
on most roms you do have to reflash the gapps after flashing the rom, unless the rom includes a script that saves them. but, it takes a few seconds to reflash the gapps anyways.

Thanks, Do you have an idea why it's not included in PA ?

most dont include it, since its just a matter of a few extra seconds of flashing.

You could make your own script to save them if you wanted. It's not difficult. However, I think occasionally the PA devs modify the gapps with their own changes so that is why they don't setup a script to save them since you would need the new custom versions.
btw, you're better off flashing in recovery. apps that flash occasionally mess up. goo manager can be used to download and flash roms/gapps/kernels.
Ok thanks guys !

Hi,
It's like on all custom roms (CM, AOSP, AOKP). If I remember right Google requested that the Gapps should not be included in the roms. It was at the time of my Gnex if I'm not wrong.
At a moment LiquidSmooth rom included the Gapps and they remove them due to Google policy.
Maybe a dev can reply... Need to confirm but there was an history about the request from Google to not include the Gapps but as a separate package.
EDIT: more information here: http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps

As the guys above said, it's mostly a license issue. You cannot include Gapps in a product you launch as your own because unlike other apps like Messaging and Camera, Gapps are not exactly a part of AOSP; they are made by Google. The thing is, developers like the one for your Motorola Defy get away with adding gapps in their ROMs because they are unofficial builds of CM and Google cannot keep a check on all the ROMs out there. The same way the case for my Samsung Galaxy Ace.
For official builds, however, you always require Gapps package to be flashed separately because Google has an eye on the official ones.

Hi all,
I was looking at flashing paranoid android onto my i9505, I've found a couple of websites (well-known I think, like true-android), but they direct me to a download/file share website and Chrome blocks the downloads automatically saying they are malicious... Are they really malicious?
Does anyone please have a link to a reliable paranoid android rom for the i9505 please?
Thanks!
Here you go. This is unified so it works on all s4s. Make sure to flash gaps after the rom.

I have downloaded and installed that, as well as this:
6-2_GApps_Minimal_4.4.3_signed.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/standard-minimal-gapps-t2012857
Seems to be working okay
I have installed Mokee on my 4G. But I have some security concerns with it. Google throws up a security warning when you reboot it complaining about an app that is trying to be installed. Numerous antivirus applications have problems with some of the apps.
Does anyone have a clean version of this rom that has the crap removed? I tried and failed. I'm sure a lot of us would appreciate it. Thanks!

As development for this device appears to be mostly at a standstill, you are more likely to be successful if you do it yourself. I lack the time/patience for this (might change during the summer) so unless someone else jumps in, you're on your own. In the mean time, there is nothing wrong with MIUI 5 at the moment.

If you cant do it or don't want to do it. Why do you even bother replying?? I already tried and I couldn't figure out how to do it. That's why I asked the question in the first place. I know people have done it. I was hoping someone would be nice enough to upload it.
So disable all those Chinese apps then it won't pop up the warning again..I'm using Mokee rom Now

I have done that with Titanium. When I reboot I get the Google security warning when an app installs itself. Antivirus programs Avira and others throw up warnings under a full scan for different things.

Excuse me? If I had a computer with Linux that I could work on I would, but I don't at this time. See the issue? This thread is rather redundant as you could have just as easily asked that question in a topic where it is discussed.
As a side note, I am able to delete all the Chinese apps, don't even need to use Titanium Backup. Just take the app from the app drawer and drag it to the trash. It worked for me, chances are good it will work for you.
You may find this interesting: http://xda-university.com/as-a-developer/porting-aosp-roms-using-source-code
By the way, CM11 and Mokee are so similar it's ridiculous. Mokee is basically CyanogenMod with all the icons and names changed to 'Mokee'.
:good:

Those apps get re-installed after a reboot. Every time.
Then why hasn't that happen to me?

How would I know? I just did a fresh clean install. It was the first thing I did after it booted. I uninstalled the apps like you did from the app drawer. Next reboot they are re-installed. Others have the same problem so I don't know how it can be different on your phone.
Uninstalling apps with Titanium/Link2SD/other apps won't work due to the non standard location of the apks.
With Root Explorer (or similar) go to /system/third-app and delete apks of these chinese apps. They won't reinstall again. I did that when installed Mokee, months ago, and they never reappeared.
Remember to uninstall also System Server (probably ad/analytics/spy, not needed)
r ex
i used built in root explorer to delete those chinese apps except fm . no problems now.
Hello everyone! First of all Thank you for being here to help me. Secondly I need your help in making a new ROM based on stock ASUS ROM. As you know there are already 2-3 stock based ROMs out there, what's different here. So here's the different I want to make. Let me first tell you that I'm a newbie here and never tried my hands on making a new ROM but I know the flashing, etc. methods. Here are the features:
Would be stock 3.24.40.87 based.
No ASUS app except Launcher, Camera SystemUI and Framework, just Google's default apps (like Google calendar, Gmail, Gallery/Photos, etc. Means users can just download GAPPS and flash).
No extra bloatware. (I want it like CM13, just stock apps and user's choice GAPPS)
Network Speed Indicator (like in other stock based roms).
Xposed flashable (I'd include the like for users.
Kernel with Double Tap To Wake support (you tell me which is best and don't have that reboot bug on log calls).
No Mods or anything.
I'd like to name it "Blank" ROM.
So, I'm completely newbie here, no coding knowledge except web dev. I don't know anything about ROM building, as I said before. Now you've to tell me:
Where and how to start?
Any Development Environment required or not, if yes then what is it?
How to get going?
Links or threads where I can find relevant info or Mods.
If you think this is too much and a newbie won't be able to handle such work, and you can do this yourself, you're welcome to use this idea make make the ROM!

Someone might be able to help, but it does make a difference which device you use.
So you need to give us that information.
If your device supports LineageOS, you should go with this one in my opinion.

yea so look for Roms that say "Vanilla" this means they don't have any google apps, it's just pure apps like file manager, messages and dialer.

link. this might be helpful for you to get TWRP but i didn't find a single custom rom for your device on XDA. But wait, got something in getdroidtips. I found some lineage os roms too (versions : 14 and 15). Maybe you could just flash them and check whether they are without google services or not. If they are with google mobile services, try rooting your device and remove the bloatware manually.

You are right but there are few exceptions in unofficial builds.
I've used a lineage os ROM for my Gionee S6s which was an unofficial build and it came with GMS preinstalled.
