Hello there.
First of all, I feel like shooting guys from Samsung on the face for taking away mass storage support on Galaxy S4. MTP is simply AWFUL!!!
Anyway, I don't know if the phone can't properly show up on Windows folders with thousands of pictures, but I'm having too many problems with my WhatsApp picture folder. It has over 3k pictures, and when I open it up on Windows it began showing pictures as folders, txt files and other crazy stuff.
Check the attached picture. The txt file and the folders above it are all pictures! On Android's file organizer they show up alright, but on Windows they show up crazy like that.
Does anyone have any clue on why this happens?
And as a second question, is there any way to change the USB mode on this phone without rooting it?
Thanks a lot!
try to wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache this should solve the problem
and there is no way to change the storage type
Hey mate, tks for the reply. I can't do that coz I'm not rooted. Only option would be a factory reset from the settings menu, but I'd like to avoid that if possible...
I dont think if there is a better solution
I would recommend to backup everything important then wipe data

by mistake I deleted a picture taken with the camera.
nothing helped to recover it from sd card (with windows tools).
I saved the picture before I deleted it in a contact and favorites, and I'm wondering now that the thumbnail is still there (even survived new roms).
where is it saved? in albumcache.vol? how can I extract this thumbnail?
any ideas? plz help me
if you saved the file to sdcard, then many file recovery softwares *may* get it back for you. i dont know what "windows tools" you mean.
i dont know if or how to extract the thumbnail, but im guessing it will be of unusable pixel size
sync with outlook, i think you can get the picture out of your contact there.
thx,
no file recovery software could get the picture back.
@Snuurtje,
good idea, I'll give it a try & report when I'm back home.
Just tried it: If the contacts are synced with outlook you can indeed copy the picture from there (pretty low res)
Use some software to recover the data from the memory card on your PC, maybe try Avira UnErase, it's worked for me before.
Hi there,
I have played alot with the registry files in my phone and now its too slow, lots of lag input from the keyboard, and its just functioning terribly.
I would like to start over, so I would like to know how to Format my phone ?
Is there a way I can save my email settings so that I dont have to retype all info again once I format it ?
Is it possible for me to port an ANDROID ROM on my HD2 instead of the windows one ?
Thanks !!

Regarding formatting the phone: Windows -Settings- System - Clear Storage (enter code 1234) and you're phone will perform a hard reset and you'll loose all the information, going back to factory settings. Preferably remove tour SD card before doing that. Put your SD card in your PC/laptop and delete the Application Data folder and reinsert in in the phone after the hard reset.
This answers also your question regarding your email settings: no, you cannot save them they will be erased too. But setting up an account does not take that much time?
Regarding Android, I cannot help you. Don't use it.

Hey guys,
I'm glad to discover you!
I have a friend of mine has a Motorola MB525 and her kid made her a Christmas present early this year: factory reset.
The problem is that she didn't create a google account, so the contacts were not synced with google. And no backup to the external SD was made, unfortunately.
I don't use android devices so this is a bit new for me, and I don't want to make any mistakes.
There must be a way to recover it. I mean, a factory reset deletes the data, as a (quick) format does on a hard disk, but there are applications like get data back for NTFS or FAT to recover it (and R-STUDIO - there are a lot).
Now I have the welcome/first set-up screen. I didn't go with the set-up process, so I won't override any data.
How can I get those contacts back? Should I go woth the set-up process, install a file explorer and search the device for the files? Are they still there? Any ideas? PLEASE there were 900+ contacts and she can't get them back.
Don't get me as a noob, I work in IT, so I can do it with just a hint, but as I told you, android is a foreign OS for me, so I don't want to make any wrong step. Those contacts are crucial!
Thank you so much in advance!
Merry Christmas! Or Happy Holidays!
Best Regards,
Andrei
i don´t know any method that can help you, i really don´t know what is the precess that the phone follow to reset, but if is a format your posibilities to recover your data are so little
possibility?
Maybe if I create an entire image of the system? A .img, .imc or .vim so I can bring it to a data recovery software such as getdataback?
Any idea how to create this image file of the system?
Thanks in advance!

L.E.: Guys!
I found some apps that REALLY get data back if it is recently deleted and not over written. Now I just need to mount the system partition so I can access it from windows or to clone it to PC or SD card and access the Card.
How can I do that please? I need to CLONE it not to copy the files, because the copy and paste will only copy the visible files. The clone or mount will give access to the deleted files also.
L.E.2: Can this help? h ttp:/ / w ww.softpanorama. o rg/Tools/DD/recovery_of_lost_files_using_dd.sh t ml
Thanks!

Hi all, a happy 2015 may everyone be healthy and happy.
I have an urgent issue here. My S3 has contracted the infamous "stuck in safe mode with volume down button not working" issue.
I would like to attempt a factory reset via the phone menu, however, i have important whatsapp messages i need to keep. Currently i use the backup option on Kies 3. May i know if its in depth enough to cover that? After a reset would choosing "Restore" from the Kies 3 menu put every single thing back into my phone like how it is? Including my alarms?
Thank you kindly
Use the backup and restore options of whatsapp: menu/settings/chat settings/backup
Or you can send them to your email.

Hi mate ,
I guess you mean S4 , if you are in safe mode check this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392632
also check this ( you must be rooted)
open file "factorymode" in efs/factoryApp directory, if it says "off", change to "on" it must say YES to turn it off, save the file
For whatsapp go settings / chat settings / backup conversations then just save the whole whatsapp folder in your internal SD , copy it back and when you install whatsapp again it will detect it and it will ask you if you want to restore it , make sure that both version of whatsapp are the same or at least that the new one you are installing is not older than the one you had
Thanks for the reply bro, mine is a S3 not S4. Do you have any idea if factory resetting will restore the safe mode with volume down button not working issue? And will kies3 backup restore be complete enough ?

Is this possible?
--> someone is posting in a S4 Q&A thread a total sensless title
Is this possible?
--> he also knows that his question doesn't belong there because he owns a S3
Is this possible?
--> I gave him an reply: Yes, a kies restore would be enough!
Is this possible?
--> he is born in 2005
Hi,I wonder if anyone can help me out - I factory reset my GT-I9505 (stock rom -Android 5.01 Lollipop - never rooted).
The problem is that I would like to recover my sms messages - and I didn't use an app from the Play Store to backup first.
I did though make a copy of my 'Phone' folder onto my Linux desktop. I thought this would give me a complete copy of the phone's internal memory including hopefully the sms messages that I need - and that I could copy the files back to the phone.
I can't see any sms / mms database in this copy - I can't even see any sms database in the phone currently when connected to the computer - probably because phone is not rooted.
I was able to recover a lot of other files and photos from this 'backup' - perhaps the sms database was not permitted to be copied to the PC.
Is there any way that I could restore the messages do you think?
I would be happy to root the phone or use adb or other software - I suppose it all depends on whether I actually have a copy on the computer ( not sure if I have or if it is hidden in some way - I thought Linux would see all the files.
Grateful for any advice you can offer.

Your "backup" consisted of copying files from the internal storage and/or microSD card to your computer. However, text messages are not saved on any of those. They are saved on the /data partition of your device, in an XML file, which you have wiped during your factory reset.
Long story short, your SMS are forever lost. Next time use an app for this.
Thank you
Pwnycorn,
thanks for replying to my query.
I know I messed up but just wondered if there was still a way to recover the sms.
No-one would want a phone that left personal data still on the phone after a factory reset, so I think I knew the answer all along - but sometimes it's worth asking someone with expert knowledge of these things, just in case there is something that can be done.
Anyhow I appreciate you taking the time to reply and advise.
Thanks
