Hello, I'm a T-Mobile Wing user with of course WM6 installed. I usually find everything by searching, but I can't seem to find a registry edit that will allow me to disable the reocurring new email notification. Before anyone jumps on and says to simply turn off the notification here's what im trying to have happen: New email comes in, im alerted once...thats it, not every 10 min. a notification that I have xx unread messages. The damn thing keeps me awake at night beeping every 10 min. until I read all my mail. Please someone help before I skip this thing across the room in a drowsy angry stupor!

I have not tested this but try it out and let me know if this has fixed your problem.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\Reminders\AutoSnooze]
"AutoSnoozeMins"=dword:0
Cheers.

Hi all - new to this forum so apologies if the question has been posed already. I couldn't find a similar thread.
I've been having consistent trouble since getting my VZW Droid 2 in September with the phone not delivering important things like emails, text messages, Google chat messages and WhatsApp messages after long periods of screen inactivity (ie. an hour).
I'll turn on the screen and unlock it, then it goes and fetches those important messages like "I'm on fire - please come put me out now!". Suddenly I'll go from zero notifications to 10 of each.
I am using K9 mail, WhatsApp, Handcent SMS, Gmail, Twitter and all seem to be affected by this.
I checked all my settings, and it's not set up to sync only on wifi or anything, and each application is set up so that it should be sync'ing in the background.
I thought 2.3.20 was supposed to fix this issue, so I made sure to update the phone. However, I'm still having issues. I know I did some things to optimize the paltry battery life when I first got the phone, but can't find anything that should be causing this - and can't remember everything I did.
VZW's answer was to do a full factory reset, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible because I'm too lazy to put everything back the way I have it.
Advice?
Thanks
Try:
Settings > Battery Manager > Battery Settings and making sure its not set to anything other than performance mode as anything else will do exactly as you are describing.
I know custom ROMs may also cause issues.
I originally asked this in Tasks thread because that is my ROM, but it isn't only his ROM as it has happened before on different phones, but always AOSP.
When I have my phone set to auto-retrieve MMS it does the expected behavior unless the MMS doesn't download correctly the first try. Sometimes I miss the message completely if it doesn't download and sometimes it notifies me with "Message not downloaded tap to retry" but when I tap that it takes me to a messaging screen where that MMS is gone. If I set the phone to not auto-retrieve I can try to download multiple times and I will not lose the message.
I know the logical answer is not to have it auto retrieve, but in a group MMS I have to go to each specific contact and hit download on each message which is counter intuitive to the smart phone.
Again, I don't think this is rom specific because I remember it on my S3 happening a time or two when GroupMMS first came to AOSP, but is there any way to make the phone keep the message in messaging if it fails to download? I used to be able to download GOSMS and use it to find them, but on the S4 they are nowhere to be found with any app I've used so far. Sometimes the message when set to not auto retrieve will just sit and say downloading forever and I have to delete it. It is pretty frustrating. I saw something on Google about it where someone had started the issue but it was for Android 2.2 and it wasn't quite the same issue.
If you haven't seen this, try setting to auto retrieve and have someone send you a bunch of mms, see if you get them all. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm missing them, which sucks too.
Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone fixed it?

Do you have any ad blocking software installed such as ad-away or ad-block? If so disable them and see if it works.. These programs I don't know which one exactly were causing this issue on my phone at one time. I disabled them and MMS worked correctly again. I never felt like going in and checking which setting was causing this problem so I just uninstalled them...

I don't. Thanks for that info though. The weird thing is I might even get 9 out of 10 MMS, but randomly one will not download the first try and it just disappears. I'm ok with it not downloading the first try, but if it just disappears and I don't see it I have no idea who it's from or what it was about.
I'm having the same exact problem, OP. I'm rocking a Play Store Galaxy Nexus on AT&T. I miss a lot of group messages and I'm almost ready to switch to an iPhone, or a carrier that does MMS over WiFi.

Don't like the iPhone idea, but I do wonder what else I'm missing. Today I woke up and had 3 text messages showing, but when I clicked the notification I only had one unread. I don't know if it was an incorrect notification or if I lost those sms also. I might download go and leave it on there to see if it helps. So far Handcent hasn't helped. I have it hidden in the background to see if it will catch these. I also got a message that I missed this morning and I'm not sure if it was a resend or if it just randomly came to me, but I got it 4 hours later.

We're definitely losing messages. Sometimes I get a toast messages "Can't download message from Jane Doe" if I catch it at the right time.
Sometimes it also shows up in my notifications preview, "Jane Doe" but I click on it, it takes me to the Group MMS, but then Jane Doe's message isn't in the thread. It shows up in my friends' iPhone threads though. It's like the phone receives it initially, then just throws it out.
Other times if I miss messages, I get a ton of "Hidden Sender Address" in my notification bar. I tap on it, it's blank. I check my friends' threads, and of course there's some messages I miss.
Like you said, the only reliable way to receive these MMS is to turn off auto-retrieve, but then I'm going into each individual's thread and clicking download a many times. If we're all live group chatting, this is a little intense, but I want to be part of the group...

Also, I'm guessing we aren't the only ones dealing with this, but maybe others haven't noticed it yet. It's pretty frustrating.

I found this issue awhile ago in the tracker. Pretty much sums it up, but compound it with group MMS. Look how old the dates are...
FYI - I was having issues with Text/Picture Messaging Not Downloading/Sending with AOSP ROMS.
After some heavy duty Googleing and putting the pieces together from numerous posts across different sites this is what I came up with...
Go to: Settings --> Mobile Networks --> Preferred Network Type
Select: CDMA+LTE/EVOD instead of Global and reboot. (I think AOSP ROMS are set to Global for the purpose of being used worldwide.)
Since I did this my picture messaging works perfectly! Be sure to check this each time you change ROMS or update your current installed ROM.
So I've recently started having a couple issues with my AT&T S8 Plus. I've already performed a factory reset once and wanted to see if anyone else is having similar issues or has ideas.
1. When sending text messages I get a never ending spinning wheel next to the message that it is sending even once the recipient gets it. I seem to have to reboot the device to fix it. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm on wifi or LTE.
2. Badges have been all over the board. I'll have a badge for 8 emails on my home screen and will delete the emails but the badge doesn't go away like it used to. Likewise sometimes I'm getting emails and a notification but no badge. I have to clear the badge manually. This has also happened on the phone app.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Same here with s8+ about badges. Any solution?

Same here as well and plus+ for anyone who could find a solution to this very annoying problem. Tried almost everything.
Disabled Badge Provider for now.
you can long-press an icon and remove the badge

didnt read the whole post, my apologies
I'm having the same issue with badges, but also not getting notifications at all from some apps, including no badges. This seemed to start at some point over the weekend.
just cleared badge providers data from app manager. Seems like its ok for now.
Same is happening to me. Only the last week where WhatsApp and email badges not clearing when messages read. Perhaps a bug has crept in since the recent update.
So annoying
Same prob here with badges not disappearing and messages app status is spinning although message has been sent and received and replied to...Started little over a week ago I guess...Help please...This is killing my OCD.
I am having the exact same issue, for the second time. This started happening about two weeks ago, and it lasted for about two days. Just as I was about to give in and reset the phone, it cleared up on it's own. Texts showed sent right away and badge counts stayed correct. Then it started again two days ago. Totally random. But now, new symptom: apps that were open about the time the issue started, opened by themselves again early this morning. I have NO clue whats happening.

Same with mine. Tried switching themes back to stock which seemed to work for a while now it's doing it again. Such a pain since you have no idea if your msg sent or if it's just the phone acting up. I'm now wondering if it's part of there new battery optimization?
oh man im glad im not the only one with texting issues. its so freaking annoying. i did a hard reset today praying it would fix it, plot twist it didnt. its only the stock app tho. i was running the google app and today that decided it wouldnt recieve any texts out of the blue. im trying to find a way to uninstall or disable the stock app..
Does yours also make duplicate texts?
Samsung Badge timeout is broken
This is happening to me as well. Example WnatsApp or any other app that has a badge for unread notifications or alerts stays that way even after the messages and notifications are read. What works in my case is to keep the App open for about 10 secs or so AFTER the mails/messages etc are read. If it is a notification, just opening the notification does not work. I have to manually open and click on the individual notifications for Samsung to register that as a read. This was the case from the day I purchased the device and has remained the same ever since. Frustrating in the extreme.
Since we're all complaining... me too! Somehow, the latest update has managed to cause a clustermuck to the most basic and useful features. Since I installed it on my S8 last week, my email and whatsapp badges have disappeared so I now need to open the bloody app to see if I have messages.
Meanwhile, my email randomly shows a badge for "11" new emails. It occasionally clears only to reappear later.
Rolling back the update seems to be a royal ball-ache too. Any suggestions welcome.
Same issue here I have tried everything even have some other symptoms
Along with the same issues you're having I am also having issues with clicking on a notification it disappearing and nothing happening and hours later after setting my phone down and coming back to it trying to do something else on it then all of a sudden of the notification pops up and those badges are really making me mad when they don't disappear I tried disabling them couple hours or next day they come back I really like my phone but I'm starting to hate those badges
Hi all
I have searched everywhere and I can't find anybody else with this issue... I surely can't be the only one...?
Since updating my Nexus 6P to Oreo I appear to have some apps not show a notification icon or anything in my notification drop down menu. My phone will vibrate as normal but my screen will not show any notifications...
This happens for Outlook (I will receive a normal notification and email preview on my Huawei watch running 2.0 but nothing at all on phone apart from its vibration), FotMob (a goal alert service if anyone is unfamiliar with it) and even push notifications on Facebook (to name a few). WhatsApp and text messages, for example, are working as normal.
I have reset all my notification and permissions settings TNA and even uninstalled and reinstalled the troublesome apps. Same result
Is this just apps not being fully supported for 8.0 or is this a different issue?
I really don't want to resort to a factory reset...
Thanks in advance
The most important thing i hate about Oreo .. is that Power notification control is missing the is so important for me!!

How were the apps installed? If you restored them through Titanium Backup, the device id for GCM push notifications will be wrong.
Uninstall, clear cache, then install the app from the play store.
Hi krs360
The apps were installed through play store. I am running fully stock, unrooted Android 8.0
Thanks
I have the same problem. Gmail is set to blink the notification light - but it doesn't! Argh!

There is something sketchy about oreo notification. Sometimes the LED simply doesn't blink at all , sometimes it simply blink very very slow.
Aquamail works fine
Gmail also doesn't pop up with a notification when the screen is off. But aqua mail does, and the notification light also works.
I think I found the answer to this. Basically it's a change in the SDK that requires the app author to fix. (I know, I just discovered the same problem in apps I wrote.)
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/43093260/notification-not-showing-in-android-8-oreo
Nothing quite so heartbreaking than to find a singular post/thread on the internet from someone having the same issue as you, only to discover that no solution has been posted and that it's old.
For what it's worth, having the same exact issue. Phone updated OTA a few weeks ago, and at first I was having the battery drain issue but that seemed to get fixed during the patch update, but now I've noticed that Outlook Calendar reminders, as well as Facebook Messenger App Notifications (new messages) no longer make a sound and/or show up as a notification on my phone. This is extremely annoying/difficult especially with Outlook as I have a really terrible time keeping things straight or organized, so I rely pretty heavily on the calendar reminders I set in it for daily/weekly/monthly things.
I could be wrong but I think it's related to notification lights.I wasn't getting anything until I turned it on and suddenly I was.
Hi,
Has anyone come across the solution for this issue? I have had it for over a month now and I really don't understand what the issue could be.
same issue with OREO (ZUK Z2 PRO)
also cannot edit permissions because it doesn't handle a device with plenty apps installed (+800) it hangs and crash / go back to main menu without letting you edit anything in options
