Has anyone found dead pixels in their S5?
Dead pixels in new units out of the box were too common in S3 and S4, i hope this is no longer the case.

Not many have the s5 now. Mine has none

On s4.? Where did you read that amoled doesn't have dead pixels afaik
Sent from my GT-I9500 using Tapatalk
i have seen dead pixels on 3 S3 and on 2 S4 out of the 5 or six of each one purchased in my office, new from retail stores, and some online also new, most just had one but one s4 had 2 dead pixels and a red stuck one.
yep
Definitely noticing a couple dead pixels near the top left portion of the screen. Three weeks old. Going to att tomorrow to complain.
Mine is fine, didn't even know this was an issue which is surprising considering we have a phones 4u store in our department. I haven't heard any dead pixel issues.
Mine don't have any either.
i don't see any in mine...:victory:

I just received a brand new G2 from tmobile and ran "dead pixel test" from the market to find a stuck pixel. Sure, it's only one, but it still bothers me. I think it's something I can live with......as long as it's a "normal" thing.
So the question is.. is having a few stuck pixels normal for lcd screens? Have you checked your screen for stuck/dead pixels. If so, how many, if any, do you have? And lastly, do the dead pixel fixer apps actually work?
Thanks!
No stuck or dead pixels here. Haven't seen this as a common complaint on the G2. I know my bigscreens have a few but for the manufacture to replace them they have to have more than 5. I guess < 5 is an acceptable tolerance for TV's.
Yes I had 2 rite above the menu bitton wwhere the screen starts. I left a pixel fixer on it all nite while I slept. It was the highest rated one nd did not work. So I exchanged the phone

Thanks for the reply. Not to doubt you or anything, but have you ran a dead pixel app? In normal use, it's close to impossible to see the single dead pixel on my G2.. only through the app can I actually see it. Just curious.
Yea, I ran the one you posted. "Dead Pixel Test" free app in the market.
Just ran that app on my G2 and I can happily say that there's no dead pixels on this one.

Just to clarify, it's a stuck pixel not a dead pixel. My bad...
Well you should have checked if you are buying it second handed. Probably seller sold it because of that instead of asking for a change.
He said the phone was sold sealed, so the seller couldn't know there were dead pixels on the screen.

As I said in the initial post, the phone was sealed. Unless the seller was psychic it is impossible that he could have known.

Mine had a dead pixel but I got it replaced today.
Only noticed second day, its quite hard to spot it. But yes it's anoying.
Just to reiterate, I love this phone, which is why I'm more gutted than I would have been that some dead pixels have slipped though the production line as I really didn't want to have to send the phone off. I just wondered if anyone else has found any dead pixels a or if I'm just Mr Unlucky as I seem to have had a run of bad luck with HTC over the past few years.

Only problem is I only have a repair option as I didn't buy it myself and don't have a store receipt. If I did I'd just swap like you. If It were not for this annoyance I would be 100% in love with this phone!
I don't believe HTC are stating the phone to have a zero defect pixel display. The more pixels you push into such a small display the more chance of having defective pixels. Stuck pixels are worse than dead ones as they blink at you on a black background. Dead pixels you normally have to search for.
Believe me I would be just as upset as anyone if I found bad pixels on mine (fortunately not yet)....but I think its asking a bit much for perfection on every display out of the factory considering the pixel density and resolution.
That sucks man. Unfortunately for you that you only have those two options.
I would be so mad if that happened to me, but I generally buy from a store or online and get replacements easy.
Sorry man.

There is an app pixel fix or something like that. Try if it works and let me know

Had a few bad experiences with the One X last year but after seeing the One hardware I just had to give them another chance.
I must say, I'm absolutely in love with the hardware. It's beautiful. Only problem is that while playing Transformers on Play Movies I noticed that I have two dead pixels at the top half of the screen. I'm absolutely devastated as I thought this phone was perfect up to this point. I bought the phone second hand (albeit sealed) so don't have the option of an exchange. My options, therefore, are live with it or send it off to HTC and be phoneless for days or weeks.
I wouldn't have thought dead pixels would be noticeable on a screen with such a dense resolution, and they're not really noticeable on anything other than black - but they're REALLY noticeable there.
Have any of you guys got dead pixels? I'm a bit disappointed to be honest as I've had a tonne of iPhones and Samsung devices over the past few years and haven't seen a single dead pixel but with this and my One X from last year I've had two in a row with HTC.
Very disappointed.

Hi, can u take a picture to show us which area has dead pixel. Thanks
Dead pixel = Black
Stuck Pixel = Any other colour
You can't fix black (dead) pixels as they are broken. Stuck however sometimes can be unstuck and fixed, but again can get stuck once again. Its pointless asking for pictures as it would just be a tiny spec on the screen. Visible only if you zoom like 200%. Mine was on the top left quarter and was a dead pixel, so I got it exchanged the next day in store at phones4u.
I wouldn't bother, software never works 99.999% of the time, if ever.
The pixels are to small on the HTC One that if you can see them, then it'll be a small cluster and I doubt the dead pixel policy has changed so you probably can get a replacement.
I've seen a lot of these HTC Ones with dead/stuck pixels online, every picture I see of them has them and even the one at the shop has one too.
Hold on one second....since when can you get the HTC one? I didn't think it came out until next week at the earliest outside the USA

Not exactly. I had ONE dead black pixel and i could see it nice and clear on a white screen. Thats every time I was browsing I'd notice a dust like spec. Its not hard to see especially when you put it on specific colours. Again I had only one dead pixel not a cluster.
See the words I highlighted.... Doesn't seem to be a dead pixel to me. If that's really the case just ignore it. It will just fix itself in some time or just massage the part of the screen or use some pixel fixer on google play.

if you have one dead pixel, i say keep it. HTC has ALWAYS had problems with dead pixels. i went through 8 G2s (Desire Z) and only had one or two without dead pixels. one even had a display that looked like it suffered from burn in.

Why the hell would you keep it? Stupidest advice ever.
My first HTC One had ONE dead pixel. I exchanged it and got a brand new shiny one WITHOUT any dead pixels. So you're telling me I should've kept the faulty one and lived with it? lmfao..
HTC One is already available on hongkong? Cool...
If it is I could just cancel my pre-order with handtec, travel there and buy the HTC One. In the end I could save alot with customs & stuff.

Yeah, why not exchange it? I can accept one or two dead dark pixel but not bright one.
Hi all,
Was messing about playing Ravensword yesterday, noticed during the loading screen that I have two, yes two dead pixels!
Shock horror, get me a replacement naow!
Lol.
But in all seriousness, has anyone else got any? If you do; what type of screen have you got?
I'm looking into mine now and will report back later.

14 on this unit. Haven't seen a ONE without defective pixels (stuck/dead). Tends to happen a lot more often on HTC devices, had to send 7 ONE X back to Amazon last year because none of them had lass then 5 defective pixels.

Yeah I have heard others saying its a common HTC thing. The handset I have now has the issue where a tiny amount of light can come through the bottom right corner of the glass, but considering the flawless display I'm holding on to it for dear life
I work at CPW and checked through 5 units at my home store to find one without stuck pixels. They all had them. Wasn't until I went to another store I got a perfect one. Makes me think batch issues or sheer dumb luck!
I got 1st replacement from p4u and it's got one stuck white pixel which is visible when brightness between 10 to 60% approx but gone when full or lowest brightness I tried lots of apps but it's still there

My 1st HTC one got no deal or stuck pixel but only gap
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I've seen numerous units with gaps and light shining through them. That is far more annoying then 1-2 dead pixels that are barely visible. But 14 ... c'mon - that is not quality control. Funny thing is: I had 5 out of the box. The other 9 became visible only after one hour of usage.
I have none that I can see, I'm not going to go looking for them as with a screen of this PPI you'll probably find some if you look close enough. At normal viewing range with Auto brightness however, I cannot see anything. what I am getting is a weird screen flicker every now and then when typing on the keyboard, I seem to notice it on greys but it could be my imagination so I'll just see. The phone gets bloody hot but testing a few devices at work apparently 42c is a normal battery temp when running some intensive games, so I guess I'll just live with the device slow cooking my hand.
That flickering is "normal" I'm afraid. Also appears on fixed brightness with mine.
I have at least 5, although 1 is clearly visible now that i know it is there. Another one is on the bottom corner so not visible unless you look for it.
The others i haven't seen in a non all-black screen. Not really visible
I'm on HT339W with PANEL_ID_M7_JDI_SAMSUNG_C2_2
Pixel fixing apps did not work
Had 2 Xperia z handsets with dead or stuck pixels so switched to HTC one, had 2 of them and both had clusters of dead pixels. Awaiting 3rd htc handset now.
QA definetly seems to have dropped on this years handsets. Had 3 of the flagships from last year (returned for various faults) and all were pixel defect free first time.
Going to stick with replacement HTC ones (for now) as it is a nicer phone than the Xperia. Would really like to just get a non defective handset and use it now tho, been 3 weeks of exchanges already as I have to do it all by post.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
Thins is are you looking closely with brightness fully up and using white and black pages? You're going to have dead pixels when PPI is this high, luckily under normal use you wont see them unless there is a cluster.

Something people tend to forget is that with higher resolution screens come more chance for dead pixels. This phone has over 2.07 Million pixels (2,073,600). Dead/Stuck pixels are harder to detect with a ppi as high as this.
.00009645% of your pixels are dead.
Had my HTC one for 1 day. Purchased from affordable mobiles and have seven dead pixels, faulty camera, gaps too and bottom. Give me my amoled s2 back !!!! Problem for me know is I have micro SIM and my s2 is locked to 3 UK !!!!
Knew I should of waited for the s4 and this is my punishment.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I think these things come from first batches given the race with S4.
I will wait quality control calm down a bit their eyes.
.
Dumb question. I've had a couple of Samsung devices in a row and didn't have any dead/stuck pixels - other odd blotches, but no pixel issues.
Is this not possible on amoled screens, or was I just lucky?
Believe me or not but I got some kind of curse, since 15 years I buy tons of electronics and electrical stuff but only 5% of which turned out to perfectly fine and without any problem, almost every item I buy in the past have some kind of problem on arrival or it must be claimed for warranty
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Can I ask an out-of-topic question?
Samsung and JDI, who is the one producing One's screen? I saw the name of the panel is PANEL_ID_M7_JDI_SAMSUNG_C2_1 or PANEL_ID_M7_JDI_SAMSUNG_C2_2, where I can see both JDI and Samsung here
I'm getting panicky now, I'm on my 8th Xperia Z now because they all had, including this one, dead/stuck pixels!
I'm getting it exchanged for a HTC One, just hope that I won't be harassed by dead pixels! I'm only 21 and these pixels are making me age by decades, completely stressed out constantly exchanging phones due to pixel problems and having patronising blind turds in Carphone telling me they can't see anything!

Hello!
Week ago i sold S3 and bought N4. I'm happy right now, especially from screen (PenTile < IPS ) but...
When turn on white image and look from left side i see two, dark stripes.
Also i have 4 overheated (super bright) pixels, and (I'm not sure here) some dead ones.
I don't know what to do. It's a good point to sent phone on warranty and exchange it to newest revision by the way? (RMA)
And yes... I have blue and orange tilt too.
I saturated photos for better look at my problem.
Bump. (can I?)
Aww thats bad luck...issues like yours are very rare... I suggest you RMA it mate... mostly i accuse people for RMA'ing devices without any good reason but your screen is in pretty bad condition...overheated pixels ? Nahh it seems more like the screen already came defective with some dead pixels included. I've got my Nexus 4 about 2 weeks ago aswell but mine neigher has any dead pixels nor any dark stripes...my tip is just RMA it to google and get a replacement.
Goodluck with it.
Respect
Thanks for advice, but I just realized, that I can't send my Nexus for exchange, because I'm from Poland, so I just have to give it on warranty. Shame.
I bought my N3 2 days ago and after an hour playing with it i noticed that when scrolling in the menu settings (with low brightness) the gray bars show a purple haze just like some SGS4 screens did. I searched the forum if this is a common issue, but so far i haven't seen noteworthy mentioning of it.
So my question to you N3 owners, can you guys reproduce this issue or is it just my handset?
Thanks in advance!
Loll i literally just made a thread about this 5 minutes ago. This really makes me angry. Is it anything we can do? Like exchange our devices or something? Im beginning to think this is just part of amoled technology since it still appearing everywhere even after this so called "software fix" for the GS4
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk now Free
Yup its there, you shouldnt be bothered by this. All the phones are affected. Although i can't quite explain why this never happened on my S1 and Note 2
I am having difficulties accepting such a flaw for a €750 costing phone. Did they manage to software fix this problem for the S4?
I see it too. My Note 2 didn't have this problem.
The issue is not present in Note 2 because it has different pixel layout. Note3 and SGS4 both have Pentile "Diamond" pixel layout--which allows for higher ppi.
The thing is that it is hard to notice unless in low brightness you were deliberately searching for it in certain screens.
If you can't live with it, sell the phone and buy one with an LCD panel (eg: HTC One, LG G2, Sony Z1 just to name a few).
SM-900T here (US T-Mobile), zero purple haze. In another thread there was a guy who exchanged his European GN3 4 times because he didn't like the screen. Now, some people might just be picky, but maybe the European GN3s have different panels than the American ones...
