Help with CWM and changing ROM - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I´m new with my LG L5 e610, usually I don´t have any trouble rooting and installing CWM in a phone to start trying some ROM´s but with the L5 of my father I´m a bit confused.
Can you recommend some TUT for me to start modding my L5? Tell if you need ome aditional info about the phone.
Thanks in advance.

TUTORIAL FOR L3 but its same for L5 follow this tutorial to point 4 and stop bacause u need to download firmware for l5 instead of l3
Download KDZ for L5 from this thread - 20D Baltic with root, unlocked boot and CWM recovery from Yandex and use it in point 4
Follow rest of procedure
The initial boot takes too long usually. But if you seem to be stuck on the boot scree, you can perform a hard reset by removing and re-inserting the battery and then press and hold Volume down + Center button + Power button together. This will reset your phone.
After that enter CWM (VOL- and HOME + POWER after vibration release POWER BUTTON and hold still VOL- and HOME until recovery) and update it with CWM from this thread to get newest CWM 6.0.4.7 needed for new roms based on 4.4.2.
After that procedures are almost same as others phones have

Really thanks for your fast and detailed answer.
Few weeks ago I unbrick a L7 from my cousin and install CWM and a new ROM, the process seems very similar, but I have a mess with L5, but now all it´s clear (or I think that xD).
I post the results when I finish, thanks again.
PS.: I live in Spain 20D Baltic is ok for me?
PS2.: Ok I check this http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=12 and 20D is for Telefonica Spain, so I can use it. Thanks.
PS3.: I follow these steps:
How to use KDZ:
1. Detach your external SD from your phone.
2. Remove your phone battery and wait for a few second.
3. Put your battery back to the phone.
4. Press volume - and + (in the middle of volume button) and power button at the same time.
5. wait till the phone screen turns to yellow (emergency mode).
6. Connect your phone to PC by using USB cable (your LG cable).
7. Run KDZ Updater as administrator.
8. Choose the following options in KDZ Updater: Type: 3GQCT - Phone Mode: DIAG and browse KDZ file is the one you downloaded browse where you put this file and then select.
9. Click on “Launch Software Update”
10.If everything goes well, you will see “Finished” on KDZ Updater screen. If something wrong usually because of the wrong download of KDZ file. You'll see the opening screen on your phone.
But I can´t enter emergency mode, instead of that my back and menu buttons starts blinking but nothing happens, any advice?

20D from thread i give you is cool for people who have problems with understanding whole procedure of manual rooting/unlocking boot and installing CWM via terminal because it have ALL IN ONE installed already.
After that reset to factory default (if bootloops) and update CWM to new version to bo able to flash CM11 etc roms without any problems.
PS.
If u cant enter DOWNLOAD mode then enable USB debugging in phone and set usb connection type as lg software then leave phone ON normal then press Software update in KDZ then he will reboot it remotely to DOWNLOAD

This is starting to be a nightmare, I flash the KDZ 20D with KDZ running as administrator, but my is totally the same, same ROM, apps installed, etc. I don´t know what I should do, I never have problems rooting, unlocking and installing ROM,s but this L5 is ****ing me.

Check About phone info at the bottom if it is same or have v20d in it kdz dont wipe ur data thats why u still have your apps etc
Just try enter to recovery vol- home power after vibration release power.

I´m on 20D with root acces but can´t enter recovery... Again I´m confussed.

Go to settings - copies and erase data(free translation i dont use english in phone ) and reset phone to factory defaults after that try enter CWM if i remember after that cwm will work.

NEWEST CWM

I must thanks all your help and efforts helping me. Respect.
Now I have CWM 6.0.4.7 and CM11 Installed. Any advice for me? You know some good ROM or I must do something more with my L5 in terms of getting more smoothness and battery life for example?
Thanks again.

How to connect pendrive in Lg optimus L7 p700 with otg usb cable. My phone is already rooted.I have OTG USB cable. What is the steps for connecting pendrive in lg l7.

Battery life ? Don't install CM11 only on CM10.1(Android 4.2.2) there is long battery life.
Smoothness don't install full gapps packages just ones u need/want to have.
About what ROM to use i'm using Paranoid 4.1(based on 4.4.2 android) by cr3pt now because its very smooth and clean.

if you want cm11 you need cwm 6.0.4.7 else the older cwm should work with older rom
which rom would you like to install?

I already have CWM 6.0.4.7 and CM11 installed and working, my question is about if you, the users of L5, can recommend a ROM, I´m searching the best performance and smoothness with best battery life, anyway really thanks for trying to help me.
PS. thanks per day, I thank you as soon as I can

Thanks again for your time, reading your post I assume that I must install CM 10.1 from CM 10.1 Thread or maybe better CM 10.2 from CM 10.2 Thread or even the ROM that you are using Paranoid 4.1 from Paranoid Thread
I´m a bit confused I want to give the L5 to my father with the best battery life and performance. Thanks in advance.

If u want best battery life 10.1 is MAX u can install 10.2 and 11 have bigger battery drain.
PS u pointed to 10.1 for L7 thats wrong
10.1 for L5 is HERE

i am on cm11 beta 5 and this is a wonderful rom!
more faster than stock and very stable.
to increase performance you can remove unnecessary system apps and use greenify to hibernate user apps, so yu have more free ram and phone will have less lag!
if you have to install gapps, flash the minimal gapps where only playstore is included:fingers-crossed:
if you want to overclock your cpu on cm11 you can flash an oc kernel than go into the setting and set your custom freq.
however today pecancm released the beta 6 :good::good::good:

z4root doesn`t work

it`s on a crappy TIM soft.
Did you root it until now?
If not, I have LG Optimus L3 (LG-E400f) with this Baseband version: LG-E400f-V10f.
I used LGE400 Root Tool by Zeref_Dragneel, which worked perfectly.
My procedure looked similar to one of the screenshots you posted (the cmd one), but the text there is different (not the errors, of course, but the procedure's text)
If you tried the same version as I did, then please elaborate the steps you done in order to root your device, and I'll try to find how they are different than the steps I'd done.
for Windows : LINK DELETED
for Linux : LINK DELETED
from the link above.
As you can probably see, the links are deleted.
Anyway, did you root your phone until now?
If not, give a try to the link I provided. It worked perfectly.
I did not root my phone.
I was planning to downgrade my firmware with KDZ_FW_UPD if possible
the copy paste above is from your link. i can`t download it from there, but i`ve tried the spectrum version witch i think is the same [and it didn`t work]
Try superoneclick 1.7 with rageagainstthecage exploit

If you're planning to downgrade your firmware with Software update [KDZ] (KDZ-Flasher), then you don't need to root your phone.
If you're still interested in rooting it, post back and I'll upload it for you.
BTW, why are you downgrading? Did you encountered instability? If so, will you please write what ROM you are using right now?
I had some stability issues, but I'm currently running SDMergE400 Mod by gellmaR & cRaZyByte, which was posted here by f3tus, which is very good. I also had AOKP E400M6 (Stable and unstable) by yayakuya, which were pretty stable.

Download LG Optimus L3 E400 Root Tools.
In this zip file there is a run.bat file.
Before running it as administrator, make sure that your phone is connected and that USB Debugging is enabled.
Only then connect your phone, and run the run.bat file as administrator.
You'll see in the batch window that will be opened the progress.
During the process your phone will reboot 2-3 times.
You should wait until it's finished (it'll be written in the batch window).
The whole process should take about 3-5 minutes, when the first reboot should occur almost instantly - so if it's not, then USB Debugging is probably not enabled - make sure that it will.
Good luck!.
Please post back how it went.
Thank you for the fast reply and for your patience.
Gonna try this tonight and post here the results.
I have a similar problem,I have the 10m version, and I have tried all methods, nothing works,I tried yours today with no success, somehow LG has lock very well its phones...

I did the procedure with superoneclick 1.7.7 using the rage...option,at the end it says that the phone is rooted, however when superuser doesnt open in the phone(it gives force close error),and I tried to install cwm recovery via rom manager with no success...then I used the L3 root tool(the one with the cmd window) and it worked!
done it. with superoneclic 1.7 rage , i did try everyversion and only this one works.
thanks guys
Thank you both for your confirmations!
now it`s on cm9 nightly, works pretty fine but i keep running out of space, even though i moved a lot of apps on the internal memory (1gb).
any other ideas?
i would rather not use ext4 coz i had similar problems on a s5670 and it froze randomly
Yes.
Install SDMergE400 Mod by gellmaR & cRaZyByte.
It's giving you 1.1GB of internal storage by partitioning it.
It's superb!
I'm using it for a week and a half, and so far so good...

[Q] Please HELP!!! L7-P705 keeps rebooting after unlocking bootloader

Someone please help!
I have a LG Optimus L7 P705g, on v10C stock rom, rooted according to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906133
Then I tried to unlock bootloader and install cwm recovery following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664322
I tried both v1 and v2 of the L7CWM archive. But the phone keeps rebooting about 2 minutes after power on.
No matter I boot normally, or boot into cwm recovery, it still restarts about 2 minutes in.
It's driving me crazy. Can somebody give me some pointer in how to resolve this constant reboot situation?
I believe I followed all the instructions provided with the above threads, and tried flashing both v1 and v2 a few times.
Thanks in advance!

ok, you need to do this.
First, follow this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31828740&postcount=1191 to flash the ROM from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176430 this rom is already rooted, and includes CWM and unlocked bootloader, so you shouldn't have any problems to flash any other ROM after that one.
and second, you need to learn to search on the forum, and read more before asking already solved issues.
good luck

Thanks for your quick reply! Actually, I'm a little hesitant to use kdz updater, as I've read some posts saying that even after they flash the stock kdz, the phone was in an even worse situation.
Since I can still boot into cwm recovery (I have a 2-minute time frame before the phone restarts itself), should I do a wipe cache or something? Will it help?
Flashing the whole thing is my last resort.

yes, I've also read that some people have problems after flashin kdz....but i dont know why, KDZ flashing is usually the best way to make sure your phone is back to a "perfect" working state, since it restores everything to the way it should be, and in most situations is the only way to unbrick the phone.
I can't tell you how many times I had to use KDZ updater to restore my phone after messing with it, im not a developer but i do a lot of experiments with my phone trying to make it work better, and most of the times it end totally bricked, and every time KDZ updater saves my ass. Some time ago i was trying to modify the stock rom myself, and I used to flash via KDZ my phone at least twice a day....so for me is pretty safe to use

I tried to read as many posts as possible about using the L7CWM archive to unlock bootloader and CWM recovery before actually doing it. People with P700 and P705 both reported success. I don't know what I did wrong. I am so frustrated...
The ROM you pointed me to get is for P700, does it matter? (Mine is P705). Or should I use my stock rom kdz to test it out first?
Also the two links that you gave me have different phone mode setting in the KDZ updater, one set as EMERGENCY, the other one set as DIAG. Which one should I use?
Thanks again!
Hope there is an easier way than using the KDZ updater... :fingers-crossed:

yep, it's for P700, but other than NFC, there's no difference...i dont recomend to use that rom for every day because it will drain your battery because of the NFC. but since it comes already rooted and unlocked, its an excelent base to make sure everything is well installed, after that you should be able to enter into recovery without problems, and then you can flash a ROM for P705. Personally I suggest you to try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472479 it's working very good for me, and have specific kernel to p705
Of course you can try with stock kdz for p705, but hen you will have to repeat the process with L7CWM and chances are that something goes wrong again.
And I gave you the link that use EMERGENCY because it is the way I use to flash a KDZ, you can try to follow tutorial with DIAG option, but I haven't test it myself, and I would never recommend something I haven't tested before. Also because you said your phone reboots every two minutes, and I think DIAG option needs the phone to be ON while flashing, in EMERGENCY option, the phone will never turn off untill you unplug the cable.

I read another post about flashing the Homero's v10K rooted KDZ that you mentioned into a North American P705, and that made the phone unbootable.
But fortunately, I managed to get a stock bootloader from a friend's North American P705 and push it into my phone. This did the trick, my phone didn't have the boot loop anymore.
Then, I upgraded the stock firmware to v20A via LG's mobile support tool. At this version (JB as opposed to ICS), I tried to push the cracked bootloader into the phone again. This time, everything was all right, no boot loop! So I flashed the CWM recovery, and everything was good.
I just tested out Szymel's modded stock rom v20E with OC 1305Mhz, seems pretty good!
Now I have a lot of ROM choices to test out.
Anyway, thanks so much for your help and suggestions!

Thank you very much for your help OptimusRs
but now i have an big problem. after downgrade to 4.2.2., my phone runs well again, then i flashed optimus pro rom V4, and pressed reboot, then my phone bootloops in phillz recovery, and an message shows of: e:could not mount /data to setup /data/media path!, i tried everything that i have read in forums, when i google this. my battery is very low, and i have no idea what to do. do you or somebody, have the solution for this?
p.s. tot, dll, and lgflasher doesnt work. it says :lg USB/Parallel lock key is not detected( reinstalled tool and drivers) and when i go on, it shows an error at 90%
I'm on d802 and running v3.its smooth and works great (only some few hiccups that I can live with) So I have root but no recovery... Is downgrading the only way or do you think I should just wait and see if a newer version of some recovery will come along and save my day?

No Sim Card D802 v4.1
I have just flashed the v4.1 but after flashing no sim card is detected. Anyone knows why? Downgrading to v4.0. And I notice the reboot and boot takes longer time compare to v4.0. Full wipe and direct install from 4.2.2 stock to v4.1 also failed to install.
i'm the only one who has problem with the "unfortunately the com.google.process.gapps has stopped" ?
and the clock widget is crashing:
i think that this is related with xposed but i'm not sure :/

You open yourself up to some of these crashes when messing with xposed framework. It happens every so often, right? Not constant?

The "com.google.process.gapps" is caused by Swiftkey.
I prefer click once on ok to close the warning than uninstall Swiftkey
They will solve this for sure on the next update

I get the same message. It only happens right after I restart the phone. I don't use the clock widget but I'll try it and post here if it doesn't work. I don't know if it's related to xposed, I installed it right after installing the rom.
Edit: Someone beat me to it and says it's SwiftKey.
Also, all three of the default clock widgets work fine.

How to Update LG G3 to Android M 6.0 Unofficial - NoobFriendly [Text/Video Guide]

Hello and welcome everyone to my Noob-Friendly guide Feel free to press 'Thanks' and 'Subscribe' on the Youtube if you have enjoyed.
Video tutorial:
Written tutorial:
1. Root:
Its is too easy to root LG G3
- Go to Settings/ General/ About device/ Software info/ and then you need to press 'Build number' 7 times so you became 'Developer'
- Go to Settings/ General and there you will see new menu called 'Developer options', click on it, and check 'USB Debugging' click on 'OK' and you are ready to Root
- Navigate to 'Lg One click root' which you downloaded here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951 previously
- Install drivers on your pc (if you are using windows 8, 10, you will need to disable driver signature, check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YafV2zlGA38)
- Drivers: http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=UW00120120425 , for MAC: http://tool.xcdn.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=UW00320110909
- Connect you phone to microUSB and then USB to pc, click 'Start' and after a few seconds you should press 'Ok' on your phone.
- Phone will boot into Download mode and flash necessary files.
- You do have successfully rooted you LG G3! Congratz
2. Installing recovery (TWRP)
This is one more easy step
- Go to Google Play store (after you rooted device)
- Search for 'Autorec' and choose the app for your device model (mine phone is d855 so i choosed d855 app)
- Download Autorec, open it, and after it loads press 'Flash TWRP'
- Your phone will boot into TWRP and you are ready for Android M
3. Navigating throught TWRP and flashing Rom:
- Before flashing any mod, rom or whatever you need to download it DD You can download whatever rom you want and you can find Lg G3 roms here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development
- I flashed CandySix for exemple. If you want working Google Play store you will need to download Gapps also.
- Go to 'Wipe' , then check 'data' 'cashe' 'dalvik cashe' 'system' , now swipe and you are ready to flash your rom
- Navigate to 'Install' and press the 'Romsname.zip' , swipe and you are done
- Now flash gapps the same way
- Reboot , and now you will need to wait about 10 minutes so the system can boot up.
YOU ARE DONE
Any thoughts?
Good idea. As I never rooted/installed any custom recovery on this phone, is really nice to get a fast tutorial, for when and if i will need it.

Glad i helped someone
Thanks Its a good informative post, however don't forget to mention you're helping the user to install a custom rom which isn't stock, just in case a few go thinking this is lg release.
This is for not stock rom i guess? Only aosp based 6.0 ?
AOSP / CM based. I think XenonHD is AOSP based, CM is well, cyanogen
So no. We shoud have stock marshmallow in the next days hopefully. You'll easily know when it happens by the ammount of hysteria around and posts
If you read the OP first post it mentions "flashed CandySix for exemple". CandySix is CM based
Still a good bet and a wonderful way to get into, CM13 (marshmallow version of cyanogen) is surprisingly fast and bugs are being ironed out everyday. Pretty much a daily driver for many users.
thanks OP for your work, but (because there's always a but) the title of the thread is a bit misleading. It should mention that this is not for LG's MM update...

Did you installed autorec for your phone version? Probably not. So now you will need to reinstall whole system using this guide:

How to install rom from Odin as not tar files ? - can't access recovery mode ?

Hi
I have searched for this there are similair threads but nothing exactly answering my question.
I hope you guys can help - my knowledge-base is pretty limited !
I've rooted my S5 and flashed TWRP recovery using ODIN
But now I can't access recovery mode - trying the volume up power - home button method . also variant on that but it only goes into download mode - It was working fine before so I don't think it a hardware issue.
I thought I could just flash the rom using ODIN but that only accepts tar files etc .
Am I missing something ?
Thanks

After flash you tried to boot directly into TWRP recovery and didn't let it reboot by itself?
Which TWRP version did you flash?
Sometimes multiple flashs do the trick.
Or flash an older version.
Odin can't flash custom ROMs (zip or img) while stock ROMs come as tar.md5.
So for a custom ROM TWRP is essential.
Thanks for your response.
I flashed this version: twrp-3.4.0-0-lentislte.img.tar
I can't get into any recovery screen - it only goes to the download screen so I don't think it is a problem with the particular version - otherwise I would expect to get to the standard recovery screen ?
volume up + home button + power button is loading the download screen , as is same with volume down.

So you should have a S5 LTE-A, correct?
Give TWRP 3.3.1-0 a try.
Had probs with 3.4.0-0 on to different devices other than S5.
Are vol up and down working correctly on stock ROM?
If you flash stock better use the multiple part version.
My device is the S5 SM- G900F I think that's the same as the LTE at least it was the only one offered that sounded like mine ?
Can you help me with the link for the 3.3.1-0 version and I'll try that ?
The volume up and down are working for volume

If it's G900F the TWRP you should use is for klte.
Does it say 900F on the sticker under the battery?
Open https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxys5qualcomm.html and select your device and the best mirror for you.
Then choose the version you want as tar.
Might be best, as you've flashed the wrong recovery, to flash stock first so that you have a clean & proper device before flashing again TWRP.
Hi
Thanks I'll try tat .
I will then install this version https://eu.dl.twrp.me/klte/twrp-3.3.1-0-klte.img.tar.html
Can you link me to where i can download the stock recovery for this device ?

There are several:
https://samfrew.com/de/model/SM-G900F/
https://forum.youmobile.org/downloads/?cat=15
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s5/firmware/#SM-G900F
They will usually come as zip so not before unpacking you'll see if it's multiple or not.
On some you might have to have an account for free access.
Yeah ! success .
I managed to install using the correct version you gave me and have installed my custom rom .
Thank you so much .
I have so much to learn!
Now want to install google apps any good instructions for that ?

Depends on which custom ROM you have installed.
I always choose the smallest number of Google Apps (all not included can be installed separately) and sometimes the bigger packages cause problems.
So for all customs from Android 7 - 9 I recommend Opengapps pico.
For Android 10 I've found that BiTgapps cause less problems if at all.
The difference between them afaik is that the last doesn't have Google tts included.
Working an other android 7-9 as well of course.
Both of course ARM as G900F is a 32b device.
thanks
I installed this custom Rom LineageOS 17.1 for klte.
and the Gapps package you suggested - pico.
All seems to be working fine so far -
I was thinking of a new phone as this S5 had got so slow - and full ! but reluctant as it's the last with removable battery and many newer don't either have removable storage.
I think this custom rom will give it new life
Thanks for your help .

If you allow me to recommend:
For my S5 is a backup device I've tried several customs.
Therefore I've installed the Q version of crDroid as others like Havoc or pure Lineage were either not as stable or didn't offer that much settings options.
