Stuck on boot (soft-bricked?) - HD2 General

Hello there,
So I've tried to put Android on my HTC HD2, but now it wont boot anymore. When I try to run CustomRUU, I get error: 270. (Yes, I've installed the HSPL 2.08 thingy) Now when I boot my phone, all I see is a white screen (infinite loop). I've also tried to wipe my phone with the power button up and down pressed while my phone is powering on, this seems to work, but when it's finished, all I see is the HTC logo with a yellow-ish background.
I would be very happy if someone could help me and knows a solution to this problem.

Is not be "able", is something what you forgot to do. It can be even a problem with your USB which you don't know to have, which it not mean is not working properly but in some circumstances like flashing HD2 can get errors. I had those a lot and when I learned I rid of them all but at the moment I don't have mine HD2 to test it again. I already posted all the tools and guide here, if I find it, I will post it for you. BTW, I will recommend to use separate tools for each flash. I don't like the Toolkits.

I would suggest using a 2 or 4gb memory card & try flashing a custom ROM & radio from sd card via this bootloader.
sd flashing tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681317
Use only a custom rom such as linked below along with radio link. Doing with custom ROM has no SPL so you will retain the HSPL & have no issues with CID errors.
Custom ROM: http://www.mediafire.com/download/bhh47jlowm9zph6/Energy.Leo.23699.Sense2.5.Reference.Nov.24.7z
Radio: http://htcfanboys.com/download/joplayer/files/HTC HD2/Radios/Radio Leo 2.15.50.14.rar
The versions above are safe flash on any HD2 variant
Try flashing radio first then rom, if fails flash rom then radio, if suceeds it may resolve the mess you in now & allow easier further flash (after testing device stable) to your required ROM
if fails you could try an original rom via SD if you now what CID version it should be but you will loose HSPL with original rom & sd flash as first flash stage is the SPL & be extra careful if have the USA T-Mobile HD2 as wrong rom radio versions can brick it. Read HD2 wiki for more info:

Help, The instructions for flashing via MicroSD doesn't work for me. They say I have to boot to the bootloader until a 'searching' thingy comes up, but it doesn't. Any idea? I'm starting to get affraid it's broken ;~;, please help me
EDIT: I can see the searching thingy flash by real fast! I see it for maybe 50ms and after that it just goes back to the bootloader again... Any idea :/?
EDIT2: Okai.. .I've figured out why that happend, apparently, the SD card isn't supported or something like that (yes it's formatted in FAT32 format). But do I have to flash the radio also via sd? Because It says it failed in red letters.

try another sd and format it, be sure rename the file correctly or it will not work. If Rom flashes but radio will not try another radio version such as 2.12.50.02_2 (in my sig below), you can also try booting and see what happens & even retry usb flashing for the radio or even a complete original rom .

Dear friend ... I had such problem before ... but when I tried with HD2Toolkit and Windows XP , The Serial Changed into USB ... you know ? maybe related to the drivers ... I just recommend you to try with Windows XP ... Good Luck

Hitman1376

Mmm not looking too promising, I would suggest first off fully charging & then putting in a clear zip lock or seal bag & putting in fridge to let cool for an hour or a freezer for 15 minutes then remove & pop rear cover & reset device using the reset pin pressed & kept pressed till device vibrates then watch boot process & see if proceeds further/fully.
You could also try flashing via cable again & do so using files in my links & see if get any better results & perhaps try an original complete ROM (loads of links in HD2 Wiki) via USB flash & also by SD if you know what country & vendor your device was .

HD2 Radio Bricked - There's nothing to do

Hi
I've decided to open a new thread in order to correctly explain what I'm experiencing.
This morning I received a new unbranded HTC HD2 and the first thing I did was install HSPL ( ) using this guide. The setup was completed without any error under Windows Seven 64-bit.
After that I tried to flash a new rom, the Laurentius26 HD2 [LEO] V1 WWE Ultimate serie, but the installation stopped at 9% with the error:

and this is what Leo shown:

So I tried to reset but the device didn't turn on

Then I decided to download and flash the italian 1.43 stock rom, but the setup stopped at 9% (via USB). I did the same via SD (SanDisk MicroSD 2GB), but the result was the same.

I've tried everything: I did many researches about RUUNBH, error 290, BSA fail, and bricked Leo... I tried using a goldcard (made using the latest QMAT build) and the latest MTTY drivers for Windows Seven 64-bit... but still I don't manage to install a stock rom!
Do you know what's happening?
Thanks in advice!
*** what I've already tried to do ***
- hard reset - failed
- flash a stock ITA rom via activesync USB - failed
- flash a stock ITA rom via bootloader USB - failed
- flash a stock ITA rom via SD - failed
- flash a stock ITA rom via SSPL - failed
- flash a stock ITA rom via goldcard - failed
- download different stock rom - failed
- connect using MTTY drivers - failed
- change PC and USB port - failed
- use a different OS (Windows XP Mode under Seven) - failed
- disabled UAC, firewall and antivirus - failed
- use a different SD car (fat32 formatted) - failed
- install XP on a different partition. Make a new Goldcard using "Duttys Leo Sense 2.5 Multi-Lang" - failed
- recover original SPL and send the phone to the customer service. HD2 returned with radio still bricked. EPIC FAIL
*** UPDATE ***
So this is the point: radio is bricked due to a bad flash. If I install a rom with a radio the flash operation fails.
With the radio bricked there are only two things you can try to do:
1- You can go on using your hd2 without updating the radio. Try to download a rom without radio and install it, or ask a cook to prepare a rom (you can try an official rom if you want to recover the original SPL) without radio for you.
2 - Do what I did and sell the phone as bricked, because there's no way to unbrick radio system. I tried to save my HD2 by recovering the original SPL and sending the phone to the htc customer service. I got the phone back after 2 months and it was still radio bricked
Did you tried with a goldcard inside your leo, to go in bootloader mode and to launch official ROM from your PC ?
Have you renamed the image LEOIMG.nbh when flashing from sd card

I don't think it's a windows problem
Test flash from another PC system and anothe sync. cable.
Another OS from which are you flashing will resolve this.
I've tried with windows seven 32-bit but nothing changed!
If it's related to the OS I don't understand why goldcard doesn't work..
Do you think I should try xp?
and with a cooked ROM & soft SPL ?
SSPL... no, I haven't try it yet...
i don't know if you can directly from bootloader, but maybe...
I'll install Windows XP Mode for Seven and I'll Try the SSPL. I'll let you know
Your bootloader is okay, otherwise you can't get into bootloader.
The 1.42.HSPL etc text is like normal.
If you see SERIAL in bootloader then USB cable is not connected or not connected properly. In this state of bootloader you should be able to flash from pc. After connecting cable properly you should see USB instead of SERIAL, then start loading the ROM.
From the screenshot is appears radio and os both corrupt due to incomplete flash. I think HSPL may save your HD2.
I would suggest to use Windows XP for flashing..
Eh, why would you use SSPL when HSPL is on HD2? First start with flashing a stock ROM which device should accept at any time, so no cooked ROM or stock ROM in different language.
Go to HTC.com and download the original rom (using ur HD2 Serial Number)
Extract the EXE file using winrar and take the NBH file from
Rename it to leoimg.nbh, copy it to ur SD card, flash ur HD2 and ENOY!

there's no need
sspl works fine with windows 7, you don't need to change a thing.n It's already set to run as administrator
I've used it quite a lot on win7 enterprise 64 bit
just make sure you let it load the drivers first time it connects in bootloader mode..
and let it through any firewalls you may have..
I have to say that this It's not my first flash. I've already flashed Cruise, Diamond, Diamond 2 and HD without any trouble using Win Seven. I know how install a rom from windows, from the bootloader or from the sd card, and that I have to wait for "usb" to apper in order to start flashing when I'm into the boot loader.
What I mean is that I have already done averything you suggested: I've already download the htc official rom from the htc main site and I've already tried to flash it via usb (windows and bootloader) and SD but didn't work. The setup always stopped at 8/9%. I've already changed the usb port and used a different pc, but I've never tried another windows than Seven. I've already disabled UAC, firewall and antivirus...
As htc12345 said I don't think is an HSPL problem 'cause I can get into the bootloader and the HSPL setup was successfully completed also. I think It's "just" a bad flash (RUUNBH) but I don't manage to find a way to fix it...
mayeb the phone is just boned..
Probably should have tried an official rom before putting hspl on..
Hi folks,
I had the same issue 1 day before. same configuration. I have even flashed some roms in several htc machine;
I had to sent my HD2 for warrantly reason I wanted to went back to stock SPL from HSPL. So I follow all instructions given by bepe, falshing the official stock rom (my region, op branded...) after renaming the ruu.nbh.
but nothing to do: no way to get out from bootloader. Error ID vendor and the same message in bootloader than you.
So I flash HSPL twice (the first time didn't work) and from the black screen (your device is still connected by usb) you have to flash a stock rom. The only way to get out in my case.
So the method suggested by bepe to uninstall HSPL didn't work for me. How to go back to SPL 142.0000 stock ?
Hope it help you...
I can't install HSPL another time because I get an error:
"You mast have SPL 1.42.0000 installed on device! Please install it first.
Error Code: 0x400007
Always reference this code for eventual requests"
Disable AntiVirus/Internet Security
Change USB port that you are using for flashing ... try with USB ports at the motherboard backplate in case you have used one mounted on front of the chassis.

As i asked earlier, what spl version is showing in bootloader? Many people think they have installed hspl2 but they have in fact not done it properly, hence my question.
There are also many many different english roms, so of these, which one are you trying? Again please provide the details otherwise you make it almost impossible for anyone to help you without guessing.
Edit: Ok I see from your earlier reply (which you have since edited) that you have spl 1.42.0000 - that is not hspl that is a stock spl and that's probably why the rom does not install. You need to use 1.42.hspl.

i DID LIKE WHAT YOU SAY IT'S WORK BUT WHEN IT'S INSTALL MAYBE 10% AND THE SCREEN BECAME DARK AND IT RETURN TO THE OLD SPL-1.42.0000 :| I WAS CHOOSE 2.08.HSPL AND THEN I GOT spl-2.08.HSPL 8G XE BUT WHEN THE SCREEN BECAME DARK IT'S BACK TO SPL-1.42.0000
sounds like you are flashing a stock rom from sd card, , the first thing that happes is the hspl gets overwritten by the stock 1.42.0000 and so teh rest of the flash fails.... use USB not SD
If you 'think' you already are using USB, then you have left leoimg.nbh on your sd card, , , get rid of it.

Hi
1. When it is on Bootloader connect usb
2. Run HSPL2
3. Select 1.42 hspl
4. When HSPL successful you will see on the bootloader spl name is changed
Then
5. Download a rom and the Latest radio from this forum
6. Get bootloader and flash the radio first
7. then flash the rom
DO NOT FLASH THE STOCK ROM FROM A CARD
It will change the spl
Good luck

You don't even need HSPL on your phone if you are flashing stock rom... Just download the official english rom and click on it when your phone is in bootloader mode and reads "USB" down bottom, then it will flash to your phone.
I don't even use HSPL when flashing custom roms... I use SSPL.

here's a peek at the existing spec of WM6.5 I had (most of the HD2's here are in Chinese)
IF IN DOUBT - DO NOT FLASH!
1. So first thing we need to do is to get into HD2's "bootloader mode" or the "Tri-color" screen.
- turn off your HD2 [I assume you got ALL you files/ Data on Backup already]
- hold the volume down button
- while holding the VOL. down then Press the POWER button
this is what you will see, notice the SPL version & the word "Serial" at the bottom. We need to change the SPL-1.42.0000 to SPL-2.08.HSPL
while in this mode, plug in your HD2 to the PC, noticed that the "Serial" has changed to USB.
run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Install HSPL 1
a screen will pop-up & noticed the SPL's needed before rooting/ flashing can be done, press Next
select 2.08.HSPL
there you go, your phone now is in SPL-2.08.HSPL
Now go back to the bootloader mode as in 1. & noticed that the SPL-2.08.HSPL is already there & is in USB, unless you've unplug it.
2. run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Wipe(Task29) 2
when a series of screen pops up just tick the Boxes & press next & flash
this is what you will see while flashing
& this is what it will be after Task29 - an empty shell
3. Now we need to flash the Radio 2.15.50.14 (you downloaded it right?) TMOUS users read Warnings >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=669733
open the Folder [HD2_Leo_Radio_2_15_50_14] where the Radio is & run CustomRUU
Now go back to the bootloader mode as in 1.
when a series of screen pops up just tick the Boxes & press next & update
check out the Radio Version
Alternatively you can flash Radio via HD2 NAND Toolkit
open Toolkit & select browse & point to the location of your Radio
just follow the next steps. Be Careful when flashing RADIO as it can Brick Your Phone
Now we are ready to flash magldr - a versatile bootloader for our HD2's
Now go back to the bootloader mode as in 1.
4. run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Install MAGLDR 4
when a series of screen pops up just tick the Boxes & press next & flash
when the phone starts it will show you the magldr bootloader
Now going down to #8 AD recovery (vol. button up/down) we see that CWM is still not there.
No Boot Sources
5. Now "I" repartition my HD2 which also places CWM into the HD2
put the HD2 in USB Flasher mode via magldr #5
now in USB Flasher mode
ticking Magldr Repartition 5 I choose 300mb 45mb cache & click repartition
a warning message will pop-up, press OK
a series of pop-up screen will appear just press next & finish
showing you the instructions w/c we just did
Booting the phone again & going into magldr & Choosing #8 AD Recovery we see CWM, the phone now is ready for either WP7 or Android.
In this Phone I will flash WP7, I choose Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.5 Tango **This will erase CWM **
- in magldr choose #10 Services
- choose Clear SD MBR press the green key(call key) to confirm
- choose uselast24Nand press the green key(call key) to confirm
Put in USB Flasher mode option #5 in magldr
I then ran the DWI file of Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.5 Tango
here is what you can see while flashing is going on
& there you have it
common errors that occur when there are problems with the SD card/ partition or forgetting to uselast24nand & clear SD MBR.
How To Dual Boot Windows Phone 7 And Android On HTC HD2

An In-depth Guide - What is HSPL, MAGLDR, cLK, and CWM, and how to install them.?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021837
Good guide, I do have a suggestion though. You should put a warning about not installing a 51 radio or a radio veraion lower than a 2.08.50.?? radio to a TMOUS HD2 as that is a assured way to brick a TMOUS HD2. I know you have to have a TMOUS radio for MAGLDR to even boot. But considering this is s guide for noobs you should still include this info.
Also you can use the HD2 NAND Toolkit to flash the radio if you want to you just have to browse to the location of the .nbh file for the radio and use the custom RUU built into the toolkit.
Last you do not have to flash CWM if you are going to install WP7.
Just some suggestions.
I get a [260] Error. Why is this? Was it because mine was x50 ,on the blue green white screen? and yours was x30?
Or what am i doing wrong?
Connection gets lost and I don't get the white HTC screen, rather I get the Stick Together logo by T-mobile.
@T-Macgnolia
thanks for the suggestion, yes I already thought about the TMOUS & radio last night but i was like very sleepy lol I will add that warning - thanks.
as for the HD2 NAND Toolkit to flash the radio, i'll look into that. i'm new to this also & when i first used the HD2 NAND Toolkit, it was really intimidating!

How to Run Android SD-ROMs
OK, so I wanted to try out an Android ROM but i don't want to go through all that hassle about dual booting with one SD Card & since I just want to try one out & still keep the existing WP7 in NAND I opted to go for another SD Card
what you'll Need to boot to Android SD
- another SD Card, preferably 8gig but 4gig is also OK w/ card reader
- Your Choice of SD ROM, get it Here >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735
To Do:
- after downloading the SD ROM (i choose MIUI SD for this) unzip the file on your PC then copy the whole Folder to the Root of your SD card.
my folder name is MIUIICS remember your folder name
- Turn OFF you phone & take out the SD Card that is used by WP7 & insert the SD Card from which you copied the SD ROM Android.
- Press the Power button & don't let go untill it boots into MAGLDR & then scroll down to #10 Service via the up/down Vol. Key
- Press the CALL button to get into the SERVICE MENU then select #1 BootSetting
- Press the CALL button to get into the AutoBoot Menu then scroll down to #3 AD SD Dir
- Press the CALL button to Select Directory then scroll to find your directory & then Press the CALL Button again where the Folder of the Android SD Rom is located.
- which will bring you back to the Boot Menu, scroll down to #2 Boot AD SD then press CALL button
- then you will see the ROM booting
& if all is OK the familiar MIUI GUI will appear

hi, what was your OS & is your phone TMOUS?
Android in NAND via CWM
Android in NAND via CWM
OK, so I've decided to have Andy in NAND but at the moment WP7 is in NAND! So before flashing an Android NAND we must wipe the NAND clean so that we can use the full space of the NAND which is only 512mb in our case. Tmous users have 1024mb.
*Remember to get all your Files/ notes/ message/ pictures from WP7/ other OS*
*Repartition/ Format your SD card using minitool partition or eause since WP7 formats the interior SD card with a RAID format. This is wp7 special format that allows WP7 to use and see the SD card as internal memory, not as removable storage.* Thanks T-Macgnolia
put your HD2 in bootlaoder mode (tri-color) by Holding down the Vol. Down button then press the power button.
follow the steps in:
2. run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Wipe(Task29) 2
**Again this will wipe/ erase WP7 & Magldr**
4. run HD2 NAND Toolkit & hit Install MAGLDR 4
**We don't need to flash Radio anymore since Task29 leaves it alone**
5. Now "I" repartition my HD2 which also places CWM into the HD2
**I choosed aokp_leo_build-40.zip to be flashed to NAND so we must check what the chefs recommended partition size**
here is the partition size table
Code:
misc ya 1M
boot yboot|ro 5M
system ya 150M
cache ya 2M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
follow the steps in 5. but this time we will set the partition to 150m & cache to 5m(minimum for toolkit) & since this is the only option we can change in the Toolkit we can disregard the other settings.
Booting the phone again & going into magldr & Choosing #8 AD Recovery we see CWM & now we are ready to Flash "aokp_leo_build-40.zip" which should be in the Root of the SD Card. Just copy aokp_leo_build-40.zip to you SD card & do not decompress it since recovery will look for a zip file.
perform the following
- wipe data/ factory reset
...- Yes delete all user data > press the call button
- wipe cache partition
...- Yes - Wipe Cache
- advanced
... - Wipe Dalvic Cache
.... - Yes - Wipe Dalvic Cache
Press the end call button which brings you back to the main CWM.
- install zip from sdcard
...- choose zip from sdcard
.... scroll down to aokp_leo_build-40.zip > press the call button
..... - Yes - Install aokp_leo_build-40.zip
if all is OK you'll boot into Android NAND
HTH
NOTE:
after flashing this ROM I only have a total space of 256MB & an Available space of 201MB, i guess this is the cons of not having other options in Toolkit to set the desired partition. I used/ set 155MB total when i partitioned it but now i'm missing 101MB which i guess was distributed for the other partitions needed.
Also there are still a lot of options in recovery that you can do like partitioning your SD card for Ap2sd/ LinktoSD functions if the ROM supports it & off course backing up your ROM etc.

I got it for free and the phone dosent leave from the bootloader its stuck on bootloader.

- was the phone in 2.08 HSPL when it was given to you?
- do you have the HD2 NAND Toolkit, if so try it from the Top
- try to press the RED reset button a couple of times together with the power button.
- I see that it is a Tmous phone - could it be a wrong radio flash?

A gr8 tutorial for all tyvm.
i have a question for experts peoples here,
currently i've clk in my hd2, now i'm going to install another rom via magldr, do i need to uninstall clk first or i can directly install magldr which will replace clk at the same time ?
Very good guide that will help a lot of newbies, good job !
here is a video of my problem.
Edit: after do a task29 my phone still in the problem and not show the empty shell whith the HTC logo on screen.

Other symtoms.
- When i plug my phone via usb to the computer its turn on automatically and tuck on bootloader.
- If the phone are power on i cant turn off... not if i press the power bottom, so if i want to turn off the phone i need to take off the battery.

i'll be experimenting on that, but my guess is once you install magldr - clk will be overwritten, i guess no ned to task29 here unless you have existing OS that you want to clean from nand.

Some how your bootloader has become corupted, you should go to this thread and start trying each of the ROMs listed there. Do not try 2.01 as it has a non TMOUS compatible radio and WILL brick your device if you flash it to it. I recommend that you start at 2.02 and work your way down the list. When and if you find a ROM that will flash I suggest that you try flashing the 2.07 or the 2.09 ROM, if that is not the first ROM you got to flash. After you have flashed one of those ROMs you should be able to flash the 3.14.1 ROM and that will have you good to go again.
@T-Macgnolia
thanks for shedding some light on acarmons problem, i do hope he can fix his Tmous HD2.

CLK Recovery Boot Error

Hey guys. Decided to try and fix my old HD2 which I stopped using after it became stuck on the MAGLDR screen at Go Go Go. Recently flashed CLK 1.5 via SD card because my USB port on the phone is broken. Tried to boot into recovery and I get this message

Any ideas? Also when I checked the bad block table it said I had a single bad block at 812. The start position however begins at 278 and the end position is at 1322. Also stated that it was marked. The partition section of the bad block is stated as Recovery. Not sure if this means the phone should be put in the bin or not lol.
Have you tried to boot to clk, back key!

Should of said that. CLK boots fine. I can repartition sections if I want. I can choose to start Android NAND or Android EMMC etc. That boots fine. I just get this random error when trying to boot to recovery
Not sure if you use clk to mark the bad block and then reinstall clk ... maybe could help!
I operate without usb port aswell, so am interested.
Fastboot vis wifi could be handy...

Boot to cLK and see what is the bad blocks layout for your phone like. Increase the recovery partition to, say, 7 MB and try flashing recovery alone again- I suggest CWM 5.0.2.6 for starters.

Thanks for the tip but how do I flash Recovery alone without being able to use my usb port? I keep coming across CLK builds that are pre-bundled with Recovery but have not see a recovery build that I can install via sd card.
Edit: I reinstalled CLK and the bad block is in the system partition. So the recovery partition should of installed properly, it has no bad blocks. I'm still getting that error message if I try to boot into recovery after CLK starts. If I hold the home button to boot straight into recovery the phone gets stuck on the HTC boot logo
Anyone got any ideas before I chuck this phone in the bin?

I see that you are using my black variant of cLK. Which version do you have installed? Did you try the stable cLK 1.5.rc1 first?
Well, 1.5.0.5 had an issue with the partition table;it was messed up after some certain changes (i.e. adding sboot).
Latest version (1.5.0.6) has this issue fixed.
So start from re-installing newer cLK (see my sig / cLK 1.5.black) and see if you still cannot boot into recovery.

Just installed 1.5.0.6. Same error when booting to recovery unfortunately.
Just change the size of the recovery partition in cLK to 7MB, commit the change, reflash the cLK NBH again, reboot to cLK, change recovery partition size back to what you set I the earlier step, commit changes, see if recovery boots.
The logic is- When you change a partition size in cLK, the underlying data is not destroyed. So when you set recovery as 7MB first, that layout will remain when you flash cLK the second time, just the marker for recovery will default to 5MB. Redoing the same partition layout will give recovery the needed space AND it will already be there in a 7MB partition, so it should boot.
I have never tried it for recovery, but have done this for /data and it works. Try it.
Alternatively, you can change the order of the positions and move cache to recovery's place, reflash cLK and then set the order again (cache to recovery's place).
Read up the cLK thread and the NAND bad Bocks thread, and sure there are creative solutions

Unfortunately, the way it works now does not allow to change 'recovery' partition's order from the phone's menu(cause then you'll need a pc to reflash recovery and the purpose is to be pc-free).
You can do it through fastboot commands but this is not applicable in DramatikBeats' case since the USB port on the phone is broken.
So all that I could think of to help is to create a *.nbh file which has the recovery partition at 2nd place (after an empty one). I have tried it on my phone and I can enter to recovery as usual. Didn't try any other feature!
If the problem insists, then maybe the hardware problem extends beyond the broken USB port...Can't be sure

Thank you for trying mate. Still getting the same error so I believe the phone is busted. The fact that MAGLDR couldn't boot up past the GO GO GO screen and CLK being stuck at a similar point leads me to think that this phone is now R.I.P. unfortunately. Would of been nice to have this guy as a second phone since he's served me well throughout the years. Thanks again though!
