Hi,
Everytime I turn off this computer in 5pm, and open it in 8am it's changing the Language. please see attached picture.
please help.
Out of curiosity, is there some particular reason to restart the computer? Sleep uses basically no power and resumes far faster. If you leave the computer in sleep mode, does this happen? What about hibernate, if the machine supports it?
Please check with the Startup tab on Task Manager. If you have unwanted programs starting up automatically, uncheck them and restart.
Anyway, do you have to manually reset the language settings on control panel every morning?

this computer is for office, so if we go home, I need to shut down this computer,
and when I open it the next day its always changing the language.
and I always need to use the 'auto system backup/restore', and same the next day,
it's about 2weeks.

here's the starting programs (attached)
yes, I used the 'automatic system backup' and its 3/25/14 (attached)
Can you try disabling all the startup programs above and restart? I'm not sure it will help but if one startup program is not in English, maybe it's causing the system to change the language...
You can always revert back to your current startup settings by re-enabling the programs as on your screenshot.
Also, did you check your language settings on Control Panel?

this will not cause problems if I turn it all?
yes, and its by default. pictures attached
PS -
If I restart or shutdown my computer right now, It didn't change the language.
I think it's changing the next day.
No, it will just disable the auto-start of programs you unchecked. You can always enable it back anyway
Now I realize it may be a group policy because the language always changes on the morning. Is your company using it?

You're welcome
Btw, is one of your programs using a non-English language for its interface?
Also, is it the first time you get the problem? Did it happen suddenly or after installing something?

ahm no..and if yes, I don't know what program is that.
yes this is the first time, but I think it's happening about 2weeks changing language everyday, no nothing happen,
and before I start my work in the morning,
I need to System restoreback to 3/25/14
all apps/programs that I installed recently will be deleted in that date.
Well, I think you already know this solution : if you want the easy way, just reinstall Windows
It can be a pain if you have lots of programs to reinstall and a slow HDD but it always works!

The computer can run automated tasks at defined times, startup time or under triggers. Try to post a screenshot of what you have there (under Task Scheduler Library).

Yeah you got it, but I don't see anything wrong.
I don't know what the first 2 tasks do, but they were not ran today so disabling them won't hurt more.
Then the last one runs everyday but not at 8 am, I wonder what it is. Can you select it and post another screenshot?

Since installing the latest O2 ROM upgrade I found two problems:
1. Alarms and timers (chronos, spb time) don't wake up the machine. I need this feature and this a major problem for me, surely must be also an issue for others.
2. I don't want the battery icon on the top bar, I want just the clock.
Does anyone knows a trick to change for the better any of those, please?
Thanks, Gonz
1) u can install 3rd party Alarm Softwares.
2) search the forum, there is a solution

Really?
Care to post a link? Everything I've read says there is no solution yet.
Look in your startup folder, there is a file that activates the battery icon (I can't rremember what it is called and I don't have it anymore, but I seem to remember it's obvious when you see it).
Delete it (or copy to another safe location) and your battery icon will no longer appear.
OK, it seems my problems are not so simple to solve, after all.
These are the files in my startup folder:
sddaemon, services, theme refresh and voice command.
Could you tell me which one to delete to get rid of the battery icon please?
Uhm…, and what about the problem of timers and alarms failing to wake up the device? Do we have to use the dull Microsoft application?
Thanks

hdubli,
I do have lots of third party software for this purpose and they all fail with the exec wm5, something that did not happen on my xda 2i with any of them.
If you please care to be more explicit with the solutions, I am sure several here would appreciate it.
Thanks, gonz

For your alarm problem, check out pTravelAlarm
http://www.burroak.on.ca/wm2005.html
You are looking for version 2.6.0, which is for WM5 - their site claims that it's a trial version, but I've found it to be faultless, even after applying latest O2 ROM.
It's not free and I can't promise it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot.
If I can't leave my Exec plugged into mains overnight, I disable the "Turn device off after..." in Power Settings and it hasn't failed to wake me up yet.
Its volume control isn't linked to your device's, and it's loud enough to put the fear of God in you...[/code]
I am having a similar problem. What you guys dont seem to understand, is, even if there was a $1000 3rd party alarm software, it will be of no use when the phone refuses to wake up.
The problem we have is not of the alarm software, but the simple problem of the phone not waking up, e.g. from standby to ON.
Can someone shed some light on this issue.
Thank You
This forum has not resolved the issue of the battery, hunders if not thousands of people are awaiting some miraculous fix for this. the only thing I know to work is using wizbar to reskin the title bar.
in relation to alarms, sorry, i know the wm5 is a problem. though, the inbuilt alarms that i have used on the device do wake the device up.
the other thing you can try is, dont turn it off, dont allow the system to turn it off after a period of time, and just close the device without turning off.
it will drain a little bit more power, i think approximately 15% over the night than what it would otherwise draing, but if it is plugged in, then it wont drain at all and will ensure the device wakes up.
thanks, it is probably rom related since u report that your device does wake up. Can you tell me what rom version u are using? Thanks

Many thanks, I did try not to switch it off and it works!, even the timers!
my rom is in my signature, unlike yours.
what i was saying was it wakes it up from its sleep, but not its off state.
just closing the clam was sufficient to preserve battery, especially given that at night its always charged. even during the day, i rarely turn it off. i just close the device and let it rest....
Why is the "turn off device if not used for" alway
Does anybody know how to prevent the system from ticking this box every time?
My machine does it on its own, yes, it does, sometimes even after changing from landscaping view to normal.
So, the advice of not turning it off to make the alarms work is OK, but needs constant rechecking that the box remains unticked!!
Thanks,

I would look at your other software that may be enforcing this as it has never happened to me, nor have I read about it.

My suggestion unrelated to your problem is to keep "sddaemon.lnk" out of the "start up" folder. If you haven't noticed yet, if you keep sddaemon on the start up folder, after performing a soft reset this file is duplicated under "Notifications" taking up your precious memory and slowing down your machine. You can check it if you have a program that cleans your Notification Que such as "Scary Bear's Check Notification" (freeware).
For the alarm one, does anyone tried using PocketWakeup? The original one is in French, but there is an English version too. Google for it and see if it works on the universal.

I got the latest, just haven't updated my profile. I found it! It was Phone Alarm, changed to PocketZen and everything is finally OK
Hi all, hope someone can help me.
I want Windows Live Messenger and Facebook IM to run continuously on my phone and be online permanently to receive messages.
But if i leave them running and go back to my phone later they appear to have closed down and i have to open them back up and sign in again, and more importantly may have missed an important message as i have been offline!
I have the 'X Closes The Application' option off so i can minimise them easy, and i know they do get minimised because i see them in the Task Manager, but almost everytime i go to look at my phone again they have closed themselves, and only very few times are they still running.
I am running 'udK Syrius Topaz R2' ROM
Anyone know why this is happening?
You have some memory hungry app which take their memory away.
And WinMo shuts them down when there is not enough memory left for them.
I heard that it should be possible to start them as a service but i dont know how that works. If you find the answer pls share it in this thread.
Thank you for your reply, i had a feeling this might be a reason.
I now wonder what programme it may be thats steeling all my memory away!
I will hunt around and see if i can find out how to run programmes as services, if i find out i will post the answer here.
In the mean time if anyone else knows how to do this please tell us?!

Helo my beloved community!
So, since the HD2 utilizes quite a lot of the data connection quite frequently (mostly for weather updates), it would be good to have an option to disconnet the data connection automatically. I presume that this is probably a registry hack. This feature can be found for example in TD2/TP2 Tools. I don't want to wait until HD2 Tolls (or Tweaks or something else) shows up (I hope it will quickly because its always something very welcome!), so maybe someone could answer quickly where to tamper with the registry to do that?
Thx in advance!

thanks for the reply but ive installed the cab and restarted but it doesnt seem to do anything
I just did the mentioned reg edits but it didn't seem to work. Then installed the cab to countercheck for my mistake. Didnt change the result, didn't work...
Even though I noticed the CacheTime setting existed from the start and was set to 600 (10 minutes).
SuspendResume original value was "~GPRS!"
Data charges are not so much the issue, I'm just concerned it might drain the battery quicker if the connection remains open permanently.

Try to do the regedits like this:
SuspendResume=GPRS_bye_if_device_off
CacheTime=5 (decimal)
VPNCacheTime=5 (decimal)
It works on my TD2, which to my knowledge has the same WM6.5 as the HD2 does. By the way, did You set the end call button long press to "terminate data connection"? If You did, then UNDO it

Right, You can't check it, as none of the HD2's hardware buttons are configurable Just ignore that question. Anyway, I think Ive figured it out to some point. It looks like the registry hack works whenever the phone connects to the web to for example browse the internet or update stocks. But it DOESN'T WORK if the phone connects to download weather updates. It looks like the Sense weather app is somehow preventing the data connection to shut down. But I think it only happens when automatic weather updates downloading is set.
hmm you do appear to be correct... now why is the weather app hanging onto the data session
Well, just tried setting both CacheTime and VPNCachetime and when checking mail I can confirm it works.
Thanks a lot! Mail checking schedule set up.

absolutely no idea I think someone smarter than us should try to find the answer. Ive already done a rather brief look around the registry and tried to find something that would get the weather app such privileges but with no success. Im thinking of addressing a new topic about that, so its more visible to the community

Twitter app doesn't close the data connection either
This is really annoying me. My battery was draining fast and could not find out why. Now I have found out that it is because I am constantly connected to Mobile Web on O2. I have tried terminating it but it starts again. Even after unchecking auto update for weather and twitter it still turns on and never off. I have mail set to download automatically but if i turn that off too then what is the point of having this phone and feature?
I have tried the setting in HD Tweak app to turn off data after 1 minute but noy joy.
Any help? Pleaseee.

Theres one more thing you should check out. The biggest connection-demander was always the NOT PROPPERLY CLOSED OPERA. If you use the opera browser, be sure to close it NOT with the X in the upper right corner, but through Opera Menu->exit function. If you close it with X, it only goes minimized and does not shut down the connection. Even if you close it, because opera is still running, after some time it will want to refresh a page and conect again. Thats why you have the imression that the phone connects by itsself. Thats not the phone, its opera

Yes I know what you mean but you can't kill the weather app or twitter in this fashion as they run within Sense itsself. Besides, killing processes is not the point. The point is to have an automatic data disconnection, so you dont have to do or kill anything

Hey guys,
Can any one tell me what the VPN cache time was originally set as?
I thought i was getting smarter...i was downloading and installing stuff with no problems until this clock program. Can some one tell me how to make it work please. I am running cht's newest version but can't get the clocks to show up...it shows that they are installed...but can't find where they are and how to make them work. Help please...thank you
It would probably help to know what clock app you are trying to use.
It should be in the advanced settings in CHT...there's a drop-down list there to choose whatever compatible clock you have installed.
Thank you I will look in the advanced setting and see if that helps.
I have cookies 1.8.5 and there is no advanced drop menu I can find. I'm trying to use the clock called "the bull C3". From forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670136

Ok well I'm running an older version of CHT (1.7) so I don't know if it's in the same place, but I access it by hitting the "menu" soft button on the home screen, then choosing "edit home layout". Once it enters the editing mode there, you should find the "advanced" button in the bottom right.
Ok...I found the advanced menu right where you said it was..but the clocks I installed don't show up in the options...do I have to install the cab file in a special place to get it to show up in the advanced menu?

Hmm...it was my understanding that whichever clock you have installed (I think you can only have one "actively installed" at a time) would show when you picked the appropriate option in the list...like "analog 1" or "analog 2"
Try picking each of the options that do show in the clock list, and see if any of them are the one you think is installed
Nope that didn't work...it's not there...I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure out what. I really appreciate all your help. I must be retarded or something.

lol I'm glad it works for you now, I know how frustrating that kind of thing can be. Had you done a soft-reset after you first installed the clocks? Sometimes changes in WM just need to be kick-started with a 2nd reboot.
Yeah I tried to re-boot it several times after installing it...then I uninstalled it and went on here asking for help...then I installed again and re-booted several times during our discussion....then on one re-boot the standard analog clock disappeared...so one more re-boot and magically the one I installed showed up. Now I'm just praying it doesn't have a virus or something. You don't happen to know of a anti-virus for the hd2 do you? Thanks again for all your help.

Nope...I know that there are some AV apps out there for winmo, but I've never felt compelled to test or use any. I'd have a hard time believing that your issue was casued by anything like that though. I'd suspect it's more likely related to the fact you installed all the clock cabs at once, but that's just a guess.

In Marketplace look up 'Lookout'. Its free and works great. But if you are on the stock ROM still dont use it. I had some issues when I was on my original ROM and it froze it to the point I had to hard reset. But it includes antivirus, Malware scan, firewall, etc. Plus it has a nice feature where if its stolen you can remotely (from any PC) 'NUKE' your phones contents. You can also pinpoint its location and go get it. GL!

Nope...I know that there are some AV apps out there for winmo, but I've never felt compelled to test or use any. I'd have a hard time believing that your issue was casued by anything like that though. I'd suspect it's more likely related to the fact you installed all the clock cabs at once, but that's just a guess.

After installing the clocks cab. then go into edit mode press the old clock till the remove tab appears, then hold the empty sapce till add new tab.appears and select analog 1 from dropdown menu, soft reset and new clock should show. In fact you can get 2 different clocks to display-- one for day and one for night.
how do you get one clock for day and another for night?

Most of the clocks for the 1.8.5 it says you have to uncheck sense install/restart your phone/then click sense back on...yeah pretty complicated other wise it will not show up...usually a reboot will take care of it...As far as two different clocks..I am pretty sure that is not possible...only one at a time...
Guys, at the risk of sounding dim, I have used startup manager to disable the media scanner on reboot. However I now want to re-nable it but cannot see how to, I forget to make a note of the service/app I removed (I expected it to be disabled, but it just disappeared from the list)
I have uninstalled start-up manager which hasn't helped. Could someone check and tell me the name of the service/app that I need to re-enable to get my media scanning back.
Thanks
