How i restore orginal firmware with warranty? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i want get back orginal firmware with official status?
i updated that firmware with odin.. but phone still says that custom?
and if i try to get updates, it says that device is modified?
is there any fix for this? thanks.

There is no way you can get your warranty back now as I assume you have triggered knox.
You can try factory reset to get the official status and get ota updates.

Maybe theres a solution
I am not sure, but I returned my warrenty by flashing back to stock rom. It doesnt say custom. Be sure to delete data and cache before you flash another rom.
1) Download Odin 1.85v
2) Downlaod your stock rom from here samfirmware.com
2b) Extract it till you see a tar.md5 file
3) Put your phone in download mode.
4) Open Odin
5) Press PDA
6) Navigate to the tar.md5, select it
7) Then press start.

Official status doesn't mean that you have warranty. If you ever flashed something custom then you would have triggered knox. If knox gets triggered, you loose warranty permanently as knox counter can't be reset on i9500 till date.

Ah I see.
Sorry for the wrong information then. They would still fix my phone, even if Knox is triggered.

They are not supposed to fix ur phone if knox is triggered but some people don't take trouble to see the knox if it is an easy fix for them.
So if you have a minor problem then most probably they will fix it but if it is a major one then you are in trouble

Yeah, that's true. 2 days ago, I hard bricked my galaxy s4 gt19500. They told me to fix it, you must change the motherboard. Luckily, I managed to fix it by myself.

Thanks for reply.
Is there a reason why the errors are showing? Do i need to do anytging else?
If i wanted to stay on original firmware now the phone doesnt work
Try a factory reset, that helped me.

Method is to flash original firmware or your networks firmware or stock firmware and reset custom rom counter to zero via USB jig .
Kernel does not need a separate flash .

I tried with just the network firmware but those errors were there.
Will i do factory reset before i flash the original firmware back onto phone?
My understanding is that even with the USB jig Samsung can still identify if a custom firmware has been flashed. Dishonest to mess with the phone at a firmware level and then return it.

I agree withjadaress1,
After flashing a firmware, I always do a Factory Reset and Wipe the Dalvik Cache.
That ensures a clean system
If you have been flashing Firmwares/ROMs from XDA (or other sources) then you also need a USB Jig to reset the Binary counter.
Without it, Samsung Support can see that you flashed an unsupported Firmware and will deny your warranty claim (if that is the reason you are returning it).

No evidence to that so far only rumour .

[Q] (Root not happening) S4 i9500 {4.3 - I9500XXUEMJ8} {CSC - INU} {How to root now?}

Hello developers.
I'm trying to reroot my phone after the latest 4.3 update via ODIN for my Indian handset.
I'm trying using CF-AutoRoot via ODIN and the it says PASS and the phone restarts normally as it should but the root is simply not happening.
there were 2 android 4.3 updates for my device and i installed the latest (you can see the post title for the exact version)
after everything completed properly i simply tried CF-AutoRoot via ODIN and nothing is happening.
Till 4.2.2, it got rooted properly without such or any other problems.
Kindly assist me out in getting my phone rooted.

Yep, I can´t re-root it again it seems the CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500.tar its not working for the i9500XXUEMJ8 versión, well time to wait to an updated CF-Auto Root :crying::crying::crying:
I9500XXUEMJ5 root working (almost working)... i cant run some app, without root all apps working great ;/
Weird. I rooted using CF Auto Root after flashing 4.3 MJ8, it always worked! I never did OTA update though, always used Odin and full wipe.

The rooting worked so far for me. Have you enabled KNOX? They enhanced the security features and as far as I heard KNOX-enabled devices can't get full root. Verify whether it is enabled or not. I'm not sure whether the user enables it or not but that may be the reason. I'm also not sure whether this KNOX security really affects I9500 models. I9505 models are definitely affected.

Probably I never full wiped.
The apps and all other data is retained (normally all is retained when we update rom via odin).
Factory reset (full wipe) was never required earlier to get root to work.
Knox is not on from my side though I get some notifications always that some app tried to access something and Knox blocked that. But I guess that is something else because we need to manually activate Knox after opening the Knox app.

what was the solution? did you need to do a fullwipe? or used another method for rooting?
im on 4.2.2 MG9 and would like to update to 4.3 and have root without the know issue.
thanks.
Backup and Factory reset and cache clear after updating to 4.3
Then you'll get stock Samsung 4.3
Follow the same method to root (auto root) or alternatively flash super su via cwm/twrp/stock recovery.

Thank you. Will this trip the knox thing?
After using CF-AUto root you need to update Super SU App on first boot.
Then Open SuperSU app and choose to install SU Binary without using a custom recovery.
Then reboot.
Then install Titanium backup pro and use it to free all Knox related files.
There are 7 of them and you need to remove all of them.
Remember you need to install a custom recovery to install busybox. (atleast in my case)
Install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489234 via ODIN.
Once you are on custom recovery.
Use busybox installer to install busybox.
reboot.
You are done.

No mate.
Wait for a future update to trip that.
In the mean time, I'm trying to trip that since it isn't very difficult just lazy to try everything since everytime 1 thing fails, I need to restore the whole data and if takes much of my bandwidth.
Hope you understand.
And the device status will also remain custom.
P.S. Touchwiz UI from Samsung will hang on a later date due to some app compatibility issue (I'm not sure which app but I can tell a large set of apps and it will hang due to any one from that list) so it is preferred to shift to some other launcher on pre hand.

i really wanted to update but i guess i am going to wait for a while. lots of issues seem to be happening once rooted. also dont want to lose warranty with the knox thing.
it seems the custom roms such as arrow and crash also have sound issues, FC issues on some apps.
i guess ill wait and see. maybe once the nexus 5 is out i can sell the i9500 and get the nexus 5.

Waiting is good.
Don't sell your phone though (for obvious reasons).
You've got much to explore.
When it comes to selling, you'll get money whenever you do that so keep that option as your last bet.
Custom roms aren't really preferred from my side until you are a die hard modification fan!.
Rooting is the only problem (which is solved now I guess) on the latest firmware.
Rooting won't do any problem, believe me (except warranty).

hello again, i am asking this question because i cant post in the development forum yet.
i downloaded 3 files from the OP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317105
the PDA, CSC and modem. all for MJ8, downloaded PDA is odex.
when i flashed 3 of the files with ODIN like shown in op my device. After i restarted i got errors for Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps .
i searched on google and did what was suggested, like clearing dalvik cache, resetting default apps, uninstalling the play store update etc.
the phone was unusable, the errors popedup every second.
I had to go back to the MG9 4.2.2 firmware.
What did i do wrong?
have you guys tried the method mentioned in the post. it prerooted and knox free 4.3 firmware.

Probably you want to upgrade to 4.3?
If so goto sammobile.com and find the latest firmware for your device from there, download and flash the same via odin.
You're now on 4.3!
Once done you can root from the auto root method by chain fire.

JTAG to retrieve my data

Hi all,
Timepin( lockscreen pin lock by JC) has recently lock me out of my note 3. Both my password and default password does not work. I'm rooted using URDLV and mobile Odin to x-note 7 ROM so my bootloader is old Mi7 but my Knox is still 0x0.
Author JC has advice me to factory reset and I'll not loose root and I'll have to JTAG if I want to retrieve my data before I factory reset.
My question is how do I JTAG to retrieve my data and is there an alternative before I factory reset my phone.
Thx for your help in advance.

If it is worth taking apart your phone, rewiring your CPU circuits and then fusing it all back together just to retrieve some data, then go do it. You don't usually use JTag for anything but fixing a bricked phone or bypassing some hardcoded security algorithm.
Using JTag to recover data makes no sense, you void your warranty and the price would be high even if you do it yourself or give it to someone else.
See my post in timepin thread, there is detailed method, there is not need to restore or install new rom.... I will write in hurry here.... Go to recovery and using file manager or using adb delete this file
/data/system/lockscreen.db and boot your phone, there will not be any pin, password or pattern etc you can use your phone fine

Do you have USB debugging still enabled on the phone and your PC USB already approved for that? Since in that case you can use ADB even without your password!

You start the phone, leave it in the locked screen and then plug-in the USB and then you run something like
adb shell
If that works it means you can do some stuff from there. Like reading/writing anything (as long as you also gave adb root permissions). Run just
adb
on the PC and you will see a list of commands, for instance with
adb pull
you can get files from the phone.
If the password problem is strictly in a program (and not in the OS) you can also uninstall that program with
adb uninstall

Using JTAG to recover data is a common way of doing so, and an advisable way when it appears to be some data corruption (which is the likely cause of this issue). Getting someone to dump the data shouldn't cost more than $35-50usd unless you need someone with forensic background for some reason (not needed) here.

But the thing is, I wouldn't ever take apart my phone, voiding all warranty just to recover some data. I believe the majority of the people won't either.
Unless the phone is not broken, people would just give that data up.

Many people yes. This user told me in email he had no adb access, it now appears to be a different case.
With adb he can dump the info, or just use root (since he is rooted) to delete /data/data/com.cunninglogic.dynamicpin/shared_prefs/* and the /data/system/password.key (or likely on his device I think elsewhere, possible /data/system/LockSettings.db).
Data recovery via jtag is common.

the first time i tried rooting the phone the supersu did say KNOX detected disable it i clicked yes but it didn't disabled it successfully and after waiting patiently for 15 minutes i closed the app and reopened and this type it disabled KNOX. Do you think that might be the problem?

There is some instructions about deactivate reactivation lock before flashing cwm (custom recovery)
Does your reactivation lock was enabled while you flashed recovery?
And what happened when you flashed ROM with odin? It was successful or ended with error?

i don't know about it honestly while i flashed recovery coz its been more than a week when i flashed it. Actually when i first got the phone that day it self i flashed your v1 ROM but was getting some errors in it so i flashed back stock rom and rooted the device with TWRP as custom recovery. Today i thought of giving it another try of your rom and i ended up in this.
Now flashing stock rom is also not helping. Moreover i have also lost root now.
seems like i will be heading to samsung care tomorrow if i donot get any solution
