So i got the new toy and after using ADB to side load app's and some testing i wanted to see the good stuff inside. I would have been happy with the FCC photos but they are locked for 180 days.
I hope they will keep others from trying to break open the PITA shell.

Did you sideload apps with adb, did you tried xbmc?? please let me now.

Yes I did. Xbmc runs but is choppy and every video load requires restart to get real video.
Amlogic devices like pivos, top hat play video much better without dropped frames and video slicing.

I'll have to give that a spin as it was far worse and crash when I disabled them.
What build date are you using that plays 1080 like a champ?
Ones I've tested are more of a chump.

Xbmc for ouya runs pretty well. Does DD/DTS hdmi passthrough. I use the plexbmc addon to watch off my plex server. Every once in awhile will notice a dropped frame. But seems to be the best one according to xbmc forums. For the moment anyway. Till a proper version specifically optimized for the fire tv comes out.

I was reading this article on gottabemobile.com About XDA porting the Netflix HD app to the Galaxy Nexus..and I thought, umm why don't I try that on my Note....Installed the APK from their link...OMG BEAUTIFUL. I started up the New Star Trek Movie, awesome, the old Star Trek, awesome again...the interface is a bit small as its made for tablets I guess, but just pull your stylus out and there is no problem here!
On one small note. I used Chrome to Phone to send myself the APK link. After I got the APK link I also got bombarded with spam links via Chrome to Phone on my notification bar. I had to uninstall Chrome to Phone after 12 notifications about "Hot Girls" I'm guessing this is almost like uncontrolled. pop ups on the server that was serving the APK file. Hopefully I can re-install it with-out the spam, as I use Chrome to Phone a lot!
Edit:
Just connected it to my LCD...it does not look like 1080p when compared to running a youtube 1080p video
Well darn...
I actually can't stand the interface. Without the stylus it's very hard to navigate. Very hard. I wish I could switch it back but still keep the high res video.
The normal netflix app on the Note was also very small as I remember from the handful of times I used it before I installed this APK. Though the actually interface does seam just a tad different.
OP are you sure about that?
I was under the impression that Netflix HD only will stream 720p content to OMAP equipped phones at the moment.
I tried the APK on my Note and movies look exactly the same as the regular Netflix App, still looking standard definition to me.
I have no way to confirm that it is actually playing HD. They look great to me. Though I must admit, I only used it a handful of times previously. The APK works and it's functional. I'll try and use the HDMI Out Cable and see if there is any improvident....
Edit:

don't discount this app just yet. It definitely plays video better than the app i installed it over. I watch a lot of space docs on netflix, and they have looked terrible because of the black "blockiness" problem with the note. This version of netflix looks amazing on the note compared to the one i had downloaded from the market. this fixes one of my only disappointments with my phone!
and it also gives me hope that the video issues can be fixed by software alone!

Can you tell me which APK you are using? I am sure we are using the same one and the picture is not any different to me than the stock. This is definitely not 720P. am I the only one who feels this way? Also I keep seeing people refer to HD content on Netflix. How can we tell which it is? Thanks.

Hey guys. I am no dev and waiting as patiently as possible for "beta" ICS build. I would just love to know from you pro tinkerers how is the overall system performance? Are the home screen scrolling and animations smooth? Is it impressive because ICS is better optimized or is the hardware showing its age?
I stay with CM7 for now until 4 or 5 releases of CM9.
I've been very impressed with the sneakpeaks and in fact have been using them as a daily. I recommend doing your own builds though just to make sure everything is current (only reason I haven't is due to VM issues).
I mainly use mine for browsing, email, and PDF reading so I haven't had any issues with it.
If anything you can give it a shot and try it yourself (emmc or SD) then go back if needed.
Sound still not working, right?
Sound works fine for me in sneakpeak2, but the boost in dal's tweaks isn't working. Headphones are OK. Was watching Ghostbusters earlier.
I just loaded samian303's nightly build from 1/11 and so far so good listened to Pandora radio earlier and been able to do everything I could do on CM7.1. Though I have not tried video yet..

Oh, it's great to hear.
I haven't caught up with ICS lately.
I've been pretty happy with it. The only problem I had was that it did not see any of the media on my SD card. On that note...any ideas?
I just installed the most recent build and I am amazed how functional it is. The only trouble I have noted (with very limited tinkering) is flash player and the ics movie studio app.
All my media is there on emmc and sdcard, and movies play fine.
I hadn't realized how close they had gotten. There may be more serious problems that I haven uncovered, but I am considering making this an every day ROM. Everything else is minor minor stuff.
I have tried samian303's nightly build from an SD card and really like the progress from my first build of it. It's getting close to a beta or RC I would think.
ICS works very well the only thing it is missing that CM7 has is video playback. Other than that most everything works fine.

I am running the latest nightly and am over clocked to 1325. Runs very smooth for such an early build!

works okay
Ive been using it for a day or so and it seems to work fine to me. Just a lot of little odds and ends to adjust/clear up. A lot of apps are not showing up in market yet I can install them from my titanium backup.
Not bad at all
I've been using it since sneakpeek2 and have had a totally fun time with it. Took a few tweaks to get Calendar sync going, to get the launcher I wanted (I use Zeam) and to get everything looking the way I want it to but it's reliable enough for me to use daily.
The one annoying issue (besides video stuff which is just icing on the cake for me) is that the ICS Gmail app doesn't fit the screen, it cuts off at the edges, but this might have been resolved in a nightly or there might be a tweak that I haven't found yet, still searching. If anyone sees one, let me know.
For video I'm just using moboplayer and set default for software decoding. Works well enough for me so far, but I haven't thrown anything heavy at it.
ICS is a little buggy but for the most part its on point!!!

I don't own a cell phone so I am not up on all of the latest and greatest operating systems, so my question is what are the advantages of ICS over CM7? Is it analogous to upgrading from win98 to xp?

Not really. I would say its more like upgrading from windows XP to windows 7. everything feels more redefined . You should really give it a go. Try dual nothing a nightly. I'be been using it for 2 days now and its superb
Does anyone know of one of the ROMs running CM9 that is fully working? I want one that runs Netflix and YouTube.
Thanks
I'm pretty sure that is still the one big holdout across the board for us. I've run the nightlies and am now comfortably on eyeballer's opengl build. Still no flash support. I haven't heard of anyone with it up yet.

Thanks. I really want CM9 but use it a lot for Netflix and YouTube so I'll have to wait until its ready. I have it on my phone and love it. Thanks for the update
I have eyeballers with the OpenGL too... Youtube (non-HD) works... if you have trouble loading a video, turn off the HD and it's fine. As for netflix, it tries to load but is a no go :-( Aside from that, it's great and amazing how much progress they've been making on it!

Yeah, I realized that today, about turning off the hd. I actually switched back to samiam303's 20120204 nightly with opengl off, but the new kernel and youtube worked there too. Netflix puts up a desperate fight though, doesn't it?

Hey guys!! First post but im daily xda atrix forum visitor. Anyway, I installed the new cm9 beta 5.0 yesterday. It works great and I love it (thanks jokersax!!). I have been goin back and forth between cm9 and cm7 for the past 3 months. I love cm9 but there was always a couple a nagging issues that prevented it from being my daily, therefore, I always reverted to çm7. I thought this version cm9 was going to be my daily; up until an hour ago. Playback of videos are bjorked. Videos that have been working perfectly fine in previous versions of cm9 are so sloe and choppy in 5.0.
Sorry for the long post but any advice would be appreciated. Btw I spent the last hour searching the boards and Google but did not find anything. Sorry in advance if this has been posted before.
TIA!!!

Use MX Player with software decoding. Hardware video decoding on ICS is borked until we get proper drivers.
OK thanks! I figured that was the case. The only reason I asked is that I could've sworn playback was working on previous versions on cm9. OK thanks bro!!
On a side note. What is the video recording app everyone is using since thats been borked for a while and does Skype video chat work?

Hmmm... I'm getting fairly good results with MX Player. But I re-encode my videos for the Atrix's screen size (max. 960x540, if source is smaller, keep source resolution). 720p (and up) movies are still choppy. I guess our CPU can't handle decoding HD resolution movies using software only.

Hi,
I just got my Ouya (supposedly the retail version). I installed XBMC using these instructions from XMBChub.
http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2013/06/02/how-to-install-xbmc-to-the-ouya-gaming-console/
But the video is still sometimes skippy...like maybe there's no hardware acceleration. I kept hearing a few weeks ago about the "stagefright" version of XBMC, but that's not what XBMChub said to do...
Should I uninstall XBMC and look for some other instructions?
Edit: after playing a movie for an hour with lots of weird video skipping, the Ouya is really hot! I think it wasn't on hardware acc.

I've had some skipping but only while streaming and the menu being open at the same time. Looking at the link you provided, the only thing I can think of is maybe the addon they had you install is causing it, but I have no way of confirming without doing it myself.
When I installed it, I just sideloaded it (part 1 steps 1-25) and didn't do anything special with plugins, not sure if that matters though.

I actually didn't do the plugin part at first. Once I installed it, I played a movie right away. Saw the skipping, so I thought maybe the plugin would fix it, so that's when I did part 2 (plugin installation). But that didn't fix it.
I can't figure out how to uninstall XBMC.

Just curious, could it be hardware related? Under advance settings/system/about console, my "build number" is JZ054L-Ouya.
You need to look up the xbmc libstage alpha 4, it has hardware acceleration enabled, without it the ouya can't use it's hardware to render 720p/1080p video, it lags otherwise.

It's weird that XBMChub would have the post the wrong isntallation link if we're suppose to use some other XBMC. Is the "stagefright" version of XBMC not the latest working one anymore then?

Ok, I installed the stagefright alpha 4 version. I used this link:

Which version worked for you? Are you doing anything not in the instructions?
I'm still getting stutters with 1080P. I'm doing this over wireless, but the router is in the same room as me. I'm getting 1.5MB/s according to the real time bandwidth monitor on my Tomato router. I'll try again with a long Ethernet cable, but the stuttering doesn't seem like it's a bandwidth issue. Seems like video decoding.
It's H264 at 1080P in MKV. I'm not transcoding or anything.
Would like more help with XBMC, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I think I'm following directions right. Just to recap, the two methods I used:
http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/2013/06/02/how-to-install-xbmc-to-the-ouya-gaming-console/
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=152005
Neither worked great for me. And the second one I try, even when 720P video plays smoothly, I can't set the progress bar to specific spots in the movie.
So after coming across conflicting information about XBMC on Ouya, I finally decided to just download the latest build (Frodo) straight from xbmc.org/download.
I've had no issues at all. I thought I would have to hook up through ethernet cable, since xbmc is choppy on Wifi on my GS4, as well as my 7 inch tab (which also has a tegra 3). But on wifi the Ouya runs XBMC perfectly.

Has anybody tried internet streaming? I've been trying with the 1channel add-on with poor results. It will start the streams just fine but the picture will be very unsmooth (doesn't actually freeze or pause, just kind of skips frames and has weird lines/artifacts every few seconds and whatnot). I'm running gotham SF alpha4 and my Ouya is connected via Ethernet with more than adequate downstream bandwidth. It seems like everyone else is getting good performance with that build but I haven't actually seen anybody confirm it works well while internet streaming.
I used the xbmc hub instructions.
All works fine, I can stream from my raspbmc to the ouya seamlessly.
It's faster and snappier than my 1st gen rpi (256mb) running xbmc
