new Flash Update in market dont get excited

dont get to excied with the newest update from adobe flash, everything still lags and no changelog included

i thought the latest version of honeycomb was supposed to enable hardware acceleration for flash? Seems no different to me or maybe flash adverts run smoother..had a Toshiba folio which was running 2.2 back in November last year. Flash seems to have not really improve since then. To be honest I am getting sick of waiting and wonder if this is down to limitations of the tegra chip again? I want to be able to watch BBC I player in HD. Just stutters. Definately think if the frame rate improved it would look amazing on the transformer. Standard play black looks very pixelated. Ipad performance in term of playback is miles better on the Iplayer site (know the BBC would of optimised performance for the ipad) whole point of having flash on a tablet is sites like Iplayer should run smooth without special support.

Have you tried maximizing the screen?

weird... i don really have much laggy experience with flash since HC update...
then again, maybe the site i visit doesnt have that much flash

Are my expectations to high to expect smooth HD video performance of flash on utube and BBC I player.....

It was a security update.

no issues with flash here at all. Works just as good on my TF as my pc.

yeah, it is just a quick patch to fix a security hole.

Hmmmmm. Most posts I have read disagree. You Tube only works smoothly via the app. I player is smooth but only when watching Sd video. If you try and stream anything HD it falls over.. You have to change the settings in your browser to appear as a desktop otherwise the bbc website defaults to mobile and all content is standard definition. Things like the BBC HD channel won't even be listed. Sorry the other person who posted that flash performance on the Asus was just as good as their desktop must have a poo PC........

The test video does not load. I have a 30 mb broadband connection but it is only showing just over 3mbps for utube speed average and my connection to the router is 72 mbps which i thought is fairly good. May have a quick play with my wireless router.

For those with flash lags, what site(s) is this happening on? I'd love to test them out. Flash has been quite solid, but it's not working on the browers I use (Firefox, Opera, etc.).

There's no lag with 420p were getting lag with 720p wich was supposed to be fixed in 3.1 and it was clearly not

Well i read this could be an issue with my ISP virgin media. However, not sure how likely this is my PC performance with both youtube and iplayer is excellent. Unless this is a specific issue with android and my router which is possible. Sorry can I check again can anyone in the uk access BBC Iplayer with watchable playback in HD? Could be a wider issue with some types of routers. Anyone getting more than a 72mbps connection speed to their router.

My biggest disappointment with my 3.1 TF is that it does not play flash videos properly, via any of the browsers.

I see what you mean. For that site, I would either have to say the problems are coming from the unconventionl player they are using or perhaps the streams are coming from overseas.
Does that page play well on a computer?

I haven't got my TF with me, but it runs fine on a macbook.

[GUIDE] CIFS Streaming fix/optimization

I use CIFS to stream video from my Windows server to my TF. Problem is that I never could get more than around 800-900KB/s even though my network is WIFI N and can push at least 2-3MB/s.
Here is a fix, using CifsManager, add under Options(eg. domain=android,ro)

Now you can get around 2MB/s CIFS bandwidth. Just enough to stream high profile 720P h.264 vids and more. It really did make a huge difference on my TF. Hopefully it will help yours.

Just seperate the options with a comma....

Just an offtopic Q: what media player are you guys using on the android side?
I can sucessfully play stuff via UPNP with no hassle, but it omits .srt files and many of my DVD rips are subtitled and UPNP players omit the subtitles files.
I'd like to try streaming via CIFS - with the help of cifsmanager I can browse the shared file directories fine, open docs on the CIFS-shared drives etc, but when it comes to streaming moboplayer and several other random players can't seem to "find" the media files when I browse, using the player interface.
I'm looking to try different players and wondered what you guys were using to sucessfully stream movies from shared drives, with.

I use Diceplayer which can decode ac3 in software and h.264 in hardware as well as tons of other formats in hardware. Also use Vplayer since it can decode damn near everything. And I have Moboplayer for good measure. Diceplayer is amazing, only player that can can do 720P HD w/ac3.

I still haven't found a player that can handle 720p MKV with DTS. AC3? Sure. But not DTS. It takes too much power to decode it would seem.

Im pretty sure diceplayer is supposed to decode 720P MKV w/DTS but I haven't got any source to try.

Confirmed. It is ****ing amazing. Well worth the coin. Regular updates, loving it.
This fix is going to make it so much better Cheers guy!

We're clearly running different Transformers. DICE is only as fast as Tegra2 failware allows, and Tegra2 cannot process files with bitrate>2000, or crf<21. Which happens to be every single 720p mkv release ever made. (some, like bd based releases have bitrate of 9000).

Na, the problem is the decoding of the ac3 stream. Combine this with the cpu usage for the video decoding and 1000Mhz is not high enough for smooth playback.
I have no problem to play high Profile 720p videos with over 2000kbit and aac audio.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but i was wondering if the stock rom has the required cifs module needed for cifsmanager to run....
I'm asking because i have a rooted tf101 and when i try to run cifsmanager it says superuser permission denied....does that mean it's trying to get permission to something that isn't there aka the cifs module or is there something else wrong ??
I know i'm rooted because i just did the left speaker fix.
I've tried some other cifs connection programs too and i get the same error.
if it doesn't have what i need do i have to load a new rom that has the cifs module in it or can i just install the module

You probably need to read the logs; I know from exp that it works on Roach's Prime ROM's.

720p video playback in ICS worse than HC

I saw there was a thread kind of about this but that got derailed...
I'm using Dice Player, MX Player, and BS Player. BS seems to work the best, but still not as good as Dice was back in HC.
Does anyone know if it's just a matter of those apps having to be optimized for ICS?

Well it's not ICS that is killing some 720P file, it's the Tegra...

i find ICS a lot better than HC, but still unable to play high profile 720p mkvs without lag.
DicePlayer is even worse than honeycomb though. MX and BS player are barely watchable.

Have you restarted at least once since upgrading to ICS? I had video issues that went away after restarting.

I'm having similar issues

I can play mkv normally but audio seems to not work.This is using the stock player.

I confirm the same, Bsplayer plays the audio but not the video . As for the Dice it always crashes ! I will lnstall Revolution HD 3 and see if this will play the 720p videos !!!

all those having issues- you need to reboot.
also bare in mind that video playback issues are not the OS's fault, Tegra 2 is underpowered to play video at 720p and 1080p, always has been, always will be.

I disagree , before ics i had revolver and i was able to play 720p without any problem. I rebooted 7 times after the update but still nothing , even the camera stopped working in panoramic mode !

me too, you need to do an ICS reinstall, my video playback is the same as on revolver now.

rebooted around a dozen times between lockups and just actual reboots, i've noticed no difference in any app.
i find it strange that people seem to have very different experiences than me. i have no issues getting them to play, it's just the lag.

Seems about the same for me. High profile really tears apart the Tegra2. I love this tablet but man the Tegra2 sucks.

Wtf? You are a member of xda...why do you not no how to install a rom? There are like 5 threads in the dev section on how to install ics .....you want hand holding you should walk up from the basement and ask yer mom...

i personally reverted back to HC

There was a thread somewhere about best settings for Handbrake for encoding mp4 to suit the Transformer. These are the settings:
"Start with the Regular/Normal Preset
Container: MP4 File
On the Video tab, choose:
Video Codec: H.264
Constant Quality: RF 24 (Lower number is better quality but higher file size, I wouldn't suggest going lower than 20 in this case)
On the audio tab change the Mixdown to "Stereo", bitrate 160
On the Advanced Tab:
Maximum B-Frames: 0
Uncheck "CABAC Entropy Coding"
Uncheck "8x8 Transform"
Uncheck "Weighted P-Frames"
After those changes, you can save these by clicking on Presets -> Save Preset and name it something like "Transformer". "

Doesn't work so well when streamed via wifi, I think 802.11G is a little too slow, maybe I need to go to 802.11N. Works fine via a portable hard disk, or a microSD card, or even a USB stick. If you have the dock or the usb converter adaptor thingy.
Sorry for those who don't have access to a grunty PC for converting using handbrake, I guess my post isn't much help to you. I'm waiting until I get my TF101 back from a warranty repair to try a few things out, including ICS. I'm currently running Revolver, and I'm VERY happy with it.. kudos GNufabio.

and yes, i'm well aware of how to flash a rom.
most of us here however are running stock ICS from the update with no root or anything like that. So simply saying reinstall ICS is not a very intelligent statement.
If i have an issue with my nexus i know how to back it up and reinstall because i have CWM installed.
however on this, as i just said, i'm running a totally stock device. i've never rooted, never installed a custom recovery, and i don't want to.
and personally, i also think the suggestion of installing ICS is BS and won't make a difference.
anyway, thank you @squire-au for that. i have seen that post and have been hoping there would be another way since totally encoding can take a very long time. but i will be testing that out overnight to see what happens.

[Q] nexus 4 with xbmc and hdhomerun - wifi video streaming issue

I am one of the unlucky ones that have the nexus 4 slow wifi issue. My wifi speed crawls sometimes at like 1mbps.
Already implemented the fix at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300873 (thank you!) and I think it helps overall but not in the following scenario.
I have xbmc loaded on the nexus 4 and a hdhomerun on the LAN. I can stream 720p 60fps or 1080i 30fps ATSC broadcast video over the N wireless without any issues to my laptop.
Doing the same on my nexus 4 it either buffers or stutters (misses packets) and my wifi speed will drop.
For example, before running xbmc my nexus 4 will show 65mbps. Once I start the video, it will play for about 5 secs and then stutter. If I check my wifi speed now, it will show 1mbps. It is as if the nexus 4 just can't sustain a high speed transfer over wifi.
Anybody else experience this? Any possible solutions? Thanks.

Xmbc is tricky add it's still kind of beta software. Which build of xmbc are you running ? Currently the official build does not support HW acceleration on android. So HD video will always play that way. There is a custom build that let's you use MX player which allows HW acceleration. I sometimes have a hard time getting videos to play on this build but when I do it's great. There are also experimental builds based off of the official one that had HW acceleration. I like this one better but sometimes I get booted out of xmbc and have to load everything up because the app restarts. Xmbc for android is coming along. But until then HW acceleration becomes a stable addition HD video will be a crap shoot. For more I would say that the fro do 12.2 official build is most stable for me on my n4. It's not the WiFi that's the problem. You will just have to suck it up and stream SD video. I've been battling thus for the past month. And to complicate things I'm streaming via miracast dongle to my TV.

thank you for the reply. yes, i am on official xbmc 12.2.
i tried setting the rtp/udp on the hdhomerun and opening the stream with MX player - but that doesn't work reliably either.
can you tell me where I can download the xbmc with HW accel? (will do a google search as well). thanks.

i have now tried the fix mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272140 and while i think it definitely improves wifi, it still doesn't solve the problem fully.
based on my testing with xbmc for a week, only between 10PM (say) and 7AM (say) (i.e., only in nights) my xbmc seems to stutter and my internet speed crawls at less than 1Mbps. all other times (yes, very limited testing), it seems to fly.
my router has tomato firmware.
i tried with another router with dd-wrt firmware last night. it didn't suffer from slow speed - which confuses me. so the problem is not with nexus 4? but all other devices have no problem with my tomato router.
anyways, i will do more variations/testing to see if i can eliminate the problem and report back here.
at the moment i don't think it is the software encoding done in xbmc - as it seems to handle it well. the problem seems to be wifi.

did lot more testing and I observe the following:
belkin 7301 router with tomato shibby firmware (latest 110): the speed drops to a pathetic 1Mbps in the night. other times it seems to be working.
dlink 615 router with ddwrt firmware (latest 21676): works nicely at all times.
i am not sure if this is a settings problem in tomato. tomato has a wifi power saver - but it is not enabled (or at least i don't see it) in mine.

Amazon Prime Instant Video - KODI/XBMC

Yesterday by accident I found a thread on kodi forums with new release from some guy and I checked it first on my phone to see if prime is working and it indeed does work.
But there are some issues some videos might not play so hopefully the guy who did it updates it or fixes it but I just spent last 30 min on my fire tv testing what works and what does not
Here is what you do in order to get it to work on your Fire TV:
1) Download this zip (repo) and put it somewhere on your fire TV:

2) Go to add-ons on your kodi/xbmc and install the repo
3) go to settings addons - get addons and download the Amazon Prime Instant Video from "Video-Addons" inside AddonSCriptorde Beta Repo
4) launch the prime addon select it as USA, set your settings like quality etc... then it should ask you to LOG-IN after you select US.
5) You should be able to browse tv shows/movies etc..
6) upon selecting play for certain movie/tv-show episode it should ask you to switch to Flash Player (no idea how it works on Fire TV) or any other android device without flash.
On my phone I don't have flash but on my fire tv I do and they both work.
Note: without prime instant access you can view things like Pilot episodes to test it out.
Now we need someone who can try and see why some videos will play and why some won't
Someone who is smart dig into these logs when some videos don't play and tell us what to do about it

What is the advantage here? Prime is standard app on the FireTV. Just curious.

Curious as to why someone would want to use an xbmc add-on for Amazon Instant Video when AIV is one of the core features of the Fire TV? I use built-in AIV all the time and it works great. Why use some hack add-on that will never be nearly as reliable as the official app? Do you not like the built-in AIV? I'm genuinely curious. Could be missing out on something here...

In my case I am not a biggest fan of the KFTV Launcher I actually like the way it is made on Kodi with that plugin.
It's just me maybe there are some other people who prefer it that way

Thanks oh and also the themes are great that it works with any kodi theme you use.
Just wanted to post it so some people are aware of it.:good:

You can add Videos from the addon to your library just like they are local stored. So you can extend your local movies with amazon instant links.
You don't have to switch between your library and amazon Instant.
Adding ALL amazon Videos to library is not implented yet, i'm working on it

Add-on works but as mentioned not all Movies / Shows are playing.
Not 100% sure yet but it appears to me that HD are not playing.

Hd plays for me. Change quality settings. The guy who made is busy and I have no idea if he will fix it.

Hd plays for me. Change quality settings. The guy who made is busy and I have no idea if he will fix it.

It is set to [email protected] I thought about the HD because everything it plays shows SD after played.
And looking at my Watchlist the HDs are not playing whereas the SDs are. Was just my first impression.
Are you aware of another addon for Amazon Prime Video?

There are other but require to use real version of chrome not mobile.
It somehow uses chrome then passes video to kodi/xbmc addon.
I would give this dev some time he will for sure fix it. This is already one of the best I have seen.

This plugin broke the genesis plugin for me. .. would be great to have this working. specially when the AFTV skin for Kodi is released.

I don't see anyway this could break another plugin which is weird. And yea I tried googling for the aftv skin for kodi but all they do is show bunch of youtube videos.. I would gladly even pay few bucks for this.
With root this could be huge adding android apps etc.. making kodi act like a launcher.

This would be great for those with rooted devices who may one day be able to upgrade to CM12 / Android TV ROM. I am fairly certain that this upgrade will eliminate access to the current Fire TV Launcher and Amazon content. It would be nice to be able to access Amazon Prime if and when CM12 is possible from other sources.

Anyway to get this to pass 5.1 sound information to my receiver?
Or can that data not be captured from the Flash version of Prime.

This is very worth while if it works. Lots of people like to boot right into Kodi. Plus I hate just about everything about KFTV launcher. I think it's too tedious to navigate. The voice search was a great idea and the tech is perfect at picking up your voice but it often yields a bunch of results that you need to pay extra for. I think kodi has the best interface.

Hi I am from India and I have a Indian prime video account. Will this add-on work for that??
