Thanks, nah it isn't hard, didn't know of the manual being out there like that.

Samsung comes kinda close to Active Display with a feature called Smart Alerts. If new notifications have come in since the last time you picked up your phone, it will vibrate when you pick it up. Not really the same thing, but the intention is in the same ballpark.

Cool thing I discovered

I was playing with the phone and I stumbled across something. This might be something that everyone knew about and I didn't. When you hold down the little dots that change screens, all 5 screens show up on the bottom as little cards and you can tap whichever one want to go to.
this is older than old.... but thanks anyway

This and voice to text are my favorite features. I discover new **** everyday, so keep searching an sharing. Maybe this should be the Favorite features thread.
I love the live wallpapers, even though I only run them when I show it off, they are sooo cool.

The speaker is on the back of the phone.
the first ring is low......this is one of the best features.......love it.
It's a Samsung thing. I like it personally.

VERY close to buying but ...

I am very close to buying a Galaxy S here in the UK but I wonder if there will be a version with LED flash coming any time soon as this is the only thing that lets the GS down for me.
I see the Samsung Mesmerize has LED flash and this is essentially the same phone. Any chance of us seeing something like this in the UK in the near future?
Night Mode gives result better than flash, search for it for examples!
Flash was also a restraint for me at first, but no more after seeing the results!
Thanks, I understand the GS has good low light camera performance but I shold have mentioned I want the LED flash not for taking pictures but for use as a torch
I find the LED very useful as a torch on my current phone as it is always with me and I fear I would miss this on the GS.
This problem can be solved too: just get a torch-app which sets the amoled screen to maximum brightness and you will have a really good torch without a ledflash
Yeah, not as good as the dedicatd LED but I guess it's an option...
Would prefer the LED though and was kinda hoping the rumoured Nexus Two would bring it but it seems we're not going to see that any time soon.

If you are basing the decision to buy a new phone on whether or not it has an LED flash or not I dont think your looking at the right device regardless...

Such as you need to look into getting a flash light and not a phone?

Maglight with the LED bulbs are fantastic. The plus too is that if you buy the "C" battery version (the "D" version is way too heavy) and are out for a walk and happen to get attacked, you can slug the attacker and you won't permanently harm them. I keep one in my car at all times! Try doing that with a i9000!
Seriously though, the samoled screen set to white at full brightness can comfortably light up a 10x10 room.

Well he does have a point. Basing a pretty big purchase decision and commitment on if the phone works well as a flashlight does seem VERY strange.
You could really buy a penny led flashlight if lighting really is important.

This is TOTALLY not the point!
I use a 5800 currently and the LED is very useful in all manner of situations. I am not necessarily basing my decision on whether than phone has a LED for use as a flashlight, as per my earlier post I am merely pointing out that I would miss it having been used to it and see no reason why it was left out.
IF there is to be a model launched here in the UK that incorporates the LED (as is available elsewhere) it would better suit my requirements and would be almost the perfect phone for me. The fact the GS does not have a LED does not mean I won't buy it but if one is coming with this added then I would prefer to buy that.
Does that clear things up?

Exactly. To base the decision to purchase a $500.00 "Mini Computer / Cellular Phone" on whether it has an LED on it (not even to use as a proper Camera flash but for a flashlight) is not the best course of action in my opinion.

Right... I get it... I meant no disrespect (I am after all a Canadian lol) but from the first few posts of the thread it seemed that you were in need of a phone that can double as an led flashlight.
I understand your point. I honestly do not know if Samsung will be releasing an SGS device with a flash on it anytime soon but the Galaxy Tab has one...

Sorry, I was guessing what yiannisthegreek was trying to get at. In any case, you can look into getting the Samsung Wave if you want the flash and the phone itself is much cheaper too.
don't know if UK will have the Continuum, this device has a flash led, released nov 11th in US
As for the GT-i9000, it simply doesn't!
buy the phone bro, you'll forget about it not having an LED. Best phone I ever got...

Try taking a picture when it's close to completely dark...the Galaxy S should have both night and a flash...even better dual Xenon ones.

What other features?
Never live in the past but always learn from it.
Their whole point to introduce this device as a security featured phone that can be adopted in the corporate world. Hardware encryption, the use of Webex for secure meetings, Kies security for remote management.
Well face unlock is a really bad feature since it usually works with pictures too... If they fixed that, it is a great feature.
wow, thats crappy.... We will have to wait and see how it functions.
i'll say they should replace it with a Eye Retina Scan
put your eye right next to the back camera
flash
recognition scan
unlocked

[Q] Calculator always answers 3

For some reason, on the built in calculator, no matter what I type in, the answer is always 3. This is the stock rom with almost nothing modified (rooted to use bloat freezer) and no matter what orientation, what I type in, if I restart my tablet, it always does it. Any help? No, the calculator is not crucial, but this is just weird!
Since you are saying that the calculator is not crucial and that you are not in a life and death situation...
LOL. That's just freakin funny. I don't have an answer for you sadly, so please don't flame at me. I just gotta say that is really funny.
nah it really is funny lol, its all good. I just don't get it! There are calculators everywhere (cell phones, ipods, actual calculators, other calculator apps. . . ) so its alright, but it was one of those awkward moments where someone asked "why didnt you buy an ipad?" N I was showing them all the cool stuff, n then had to do a little bit of math real quick n they were like "wtf! Google cant even make a calculator?!?" Amusing, sure, but annoying too
simple
Maybe the answer is always 3.that is so odd
Giggles.
Everyone knows the answer should always be 42, not 3! Maybe your tab knows something modern science doesn't?

Look up Douglas Adams and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. You can look for a reference to "Deep Thought" and the "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything".
