[Q] Google now screen - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
On pure Android 4.4.2, like CyanogenMOD 11 or nexus phones, when you swype all the way to the left you get to a google now screen.
Is there a way to add this very same screen, to be accessed on this very same way to the stock Android 4.4.2 from Samsung?
If not, is there a way to install Google Now Launcher on this phone? This is not the Google Now version, I'm not looking to make it a google now version due to some (few) things that I like on Touchwiz, like the multi screen, and don't want to lose some apps, like the shealth.
Btw, no root installed yet.
Thank you.

It says my device is not compatible. Maybe because it's not the Galaxy S4 Google Edition?
Any other way of creating that window?
Thank you.

Dialer and Contacts apps

Call me strange if you will but im after the original S4 Contacts and Dialer apps, ive recently put CM11 on my S4 and don't like the stock android versions.
I've tried other apps for phone and contacts and just don't like them. Samsung have brain washed me lol
How can I get the Samsung versions to work? I've downloaded the apps but they won't install, I assume I have to do something to enable them to install a a work?

You Can't, Samsung Contacts and Dialler require Samsung Framework, which is not available in AOSP.

How to remove/hide the Navbar on Mojo?

Hey again guys. I've been doing further research and I'm positive the console I want to buy next is a Mojo.
I plan to root it as soon as I get it, so the important question is: how do I make it so the navbar doesn't show up? Apparently its always present by default, making all apps even XBMC not actually fullscreen.
Hopefully someone can tell me that. Thanks!

That's were I've heard your name.. on the "The Retro League" podcast lol
I haven't heard those two in ages.. wow!
I should go get me some right now lol
Cool, ha.. to your questions.
I think there's app on the app store which remove the navbar in jellybean.. not 100%
I would think CM12 would have that as an option.. again not sure sorry.
MX player does hide it but games don't.. that I recall anyway.
:good:
I wonder if there's just a script that you can edit to fix this. I just want the damn thing to not take up screen space when it's not a touch screen device to begin with.

Try Auto Hide Soft Keys APP which worked fine for me on rooted jellybean. Kodi/XBMC on the Lollipop (CM12) ROM works without this app because of immersive mode which hides the navbar, so I would suggest when you get your MOJO to switch to that ROM.
I know this is probably a crazy noobish question, but is there any way to download game apks from the google play store directly to my imac? I'm pretty new to google play, and it keeps saying to sign in on the device. but thats just the thing, I don't have a mojo yet. I'm still trying to figure out if I will get one.
So what the heck? Can't I just download to my computer and then "sideload" later?

I'm not sure why you would need to sideload apks to the MOJO since it will be fully functional with google play after using the rooting method for jellybean. On CM12, missing apps can apparently be fooled into appearing in google play by changing the device to something else like an nvidia shield tablet using Market helper http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146216
But there is a way to download apks to the computer if you must: try this

I'm newish to android but I think you still need to use the navbar regardless of lack of touch...
At least with jellybean, cm12 feels better integrated to android but still need to get to the all apps menu button.
I think the issue is jellybean didn't let apps remove easily, were as cm12 does.

Replacing Phone Dialer on Nougat?

I just took the update to Nougat and I hate the little window that comes up when I receive a call on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. On Marshmallow, I had installed an old version of the Google Dialer ( v 2..05.07_rc4 I believe) but I am having trouble disabling the default dialer on Nougat. Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the default Samsung dialer on Nougat and use the Google Dialer (any version)? Or am I wasting my time?
Thanks!
re dialer
I didn't like the all white dialer in Nougat so I installed the material dark theme and that made both
the dialer and drop down menus look better. I would like the pixel dialer or something similar however
the one's I have tried (apk's) crashed.

Do you know of a way to make the notification drop down tray dark? Every theme I try doesn't change the notification drop down.

The quick menus are dark however the notifications are not. I notice now the blue led notification doesn't seem to be
working either. Short answer no.
I did get the led notifications to work after adding an app (light manager). I expect if I erase and reset it would work but
I don't want to do that at the moment.
There is an updated version of Google Phone that works on S7E Nougat. Search for "Google Phone 4.1.135571529-nonnexus" on apkmirror. It might not be the most current version (which is 8.x) but it still works and might not be as whacky for you as the Samsung dialer. Please note that you need to also download the Google Contacts app, because if you want to disable the Samsung dialer you are actually disabling the Samsung Contacts app as this is the actual "phone" app that shows up in your app drawer. If you want to disable the Samsung phone and contacts apps make sure to not disable any of the apps listed as "phone".
Hope this helps!

Also, what version of Google Contacts do I download?

Once installed you have to go to application settings and grant all permissions then choose this as default calling app

I disabled "Contacts" com.samsung.android.contacts the one with the orange icon and just that app only. I then downloaded the most current version of the dialer and I then downloaded Google Contacts version 1.6.20 which is the most current version.

Great! Thank you.
Were you able to get search results working in the dialer? That seems to be the only thing I'm lacking. Otherwise, this is awesome. Thanks again!

Is there any newer version of this dialer that syncs with contacts? Right now, the "contacts" portion of the dialer app shows every contact I've ever contacted ever rather than the customized list I have in my separate contacts app.
Thanks!

Hello,
Using an s7 g930f and wanting to replace the samsung dialer with the google phone dialer. The version I have is v8, I'm wanting to have ViLTE video calling ability, I'm using a rooted tw rom. I've read that the minimum version needed for the dialer is v13 or newer, I have not found a version that works on my s7, does anyone have this working?
Thanks.

Works well on my Exynos S7 Edge

Mobile Data shortcut, updates.

Hi.
I don't know if I'm in the right place because I'm in canada and have the 900w8 (with Wind/Freedom) but anyway, just bought my Note 3 recently and I see no Mobile Data shortcut on the Notification panel and it seems this was a common problem after some update and I couldn't find any fixes for this. Also, the phone has Android version 5, which I know isn't the latest version but looks like there will be no updates for us.
So, any way I can get the Data shortcut, or maybe the android 6 version? My phone is stock everything.
Thanks.

I found a screenshot of Lollipop and it does show the mobile data shortcut.
Best I can tell you is to flash with Odin stock 5.0, but other than that, I do not know how you could fix it. Or just root it and try a custom ROM if that is something so important to you.
Thanks again for the reply and the suggestions, man. Yeah I don't know why this is happening with the Note 3s but like I said this was a common problem after some update. I've never rooted or flashed any phone and I don't know if I want to do this. So, looks like I have to live with this inconvenience. It also looks like I won't be able to swipe down to access shortcuts unless I unlock the screen. On my Moto E (Android 6) I'm able to do that without having to unlock the screen. That's another inconvenience.

Is that the case? I am not on stock anymore, but I think I remember it was possible if I just had the lockscreen to "swipe".
But then again, it could be a difference between Android 5 and 6
Flashing is an intimidating task and requires a lot of research but not as much as you may think.
Anyway, I'm not going to grind on that suggestion. Best I can tell you now is, enjoy your Note 3 experience

Yeah I guess I'm stuck with what I have for now (no Data shortcut and no swiping with locked screen) but I don't know why I can't get an update (Android 6) for the Note 3.
Thanks anyways for the reply.

Looking for an android 11 ROM for my G950F device.

I tried Sakura Project 5.1 and I liked how it looked. Only some things weren't working. So I was wondering if there are any other good stable ROM's out there for Samsung S8 with android 11?

If I want to try that one, should I download the one that says ROM [GAPPS] or the one that says ROM [VANILLA]? I am not sure what the difference is.

GAPS has built-in Google Apps, you won't need to install anything other than the ROM. It's nice actually, you won't get too much trouble. Once installed, it's ready just like any normal device.
Vanilla is just the AOSP-based ROM without Google Apps, it's lighter, more .. simple, and probably more secure if you're that kind whom hates tracking and stuff.
