My friend came over to mine the other day with his new Iphone 4. Comparing it to my X10. The X10 quality looks shockingly awful compared to the Iphone 4, now its stayed in my head that the X10 screen isnt as good as what I use to think it was since seeing the Iphone 4's Screen. It is truely amazing!!!!!
Trying my best to find Hi-Def wallpapers since he had an Hi-Def Wallpaper on his Iphone 4, to try and make my screen look half decent, but I havent come across any of yet..
After a bit of research i found the screen Hardware Capabilities and Specs.
------------------------
Iphone 4 -
TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 640 x 960 pixels, 3.5 inches
Xperia X10 -
TFT capacitive touchscreen, 65K colors
Size 480 x 854 pixels, 4.0 inches
-------------------------
So, X10 has a 4 Inch screen and 409,920 Pixels (Bigger screen less pixels than Iphone 4 screen)
and Iphone 4 has 3.5 Inch screen and 614,400 Pixels. (Smaller screen more pixels compared to X10 screen) which means, this is obviously a better screen than X10
Is it just me who thinks this? also does the 16M colours that the Iphone 4 has, take any effect on this because I read that the human eye can only see X amount of colours.
Also I know I am never going to get close or near quality to the Iphone 4 Screen, but does anybody know which type of wallpapers bring out the best quality in the X10?
Thanks!
even if its as you say the iphone 4 has a lot of BUGS like the one when you lose the signal when you hold the phone.
So i think that you should thank god you have a X10 and not a iphone 4
just my opinion.
x10 has 16M, just not on android 1.6
use any wallpaper from this thread
Wait for the update, then you will appreciate your x10's display more.
The X10 has a wonderful screen. Leave the iphones for those without personalities.
Dont believe apple when they say they have x million colors. They have said that about all their screens and have been sued before for lying about it. Besides, I trust a sony screen before an apple screen because sony really knows their stuff.
iPhone 4 - IPS-panel, LED-backlit
XPERIA X10 - TN-panel, CCFL-backlit LED-backlit
Edit: although the X10 looks like a CCFL backlit display, it's indeed a LED-backlit one. This is clear from the disassembly shots posted on this board, as the X10 display panel doesn't have a high voltage cable going from a screen bulb to an inverter (CCFL structure) and only has one connector (LED structure).

With the same resolution, smaller screen always look better than a bigger screen. Just compare same resolution 32 and 52 LCD TV, which one looks sharper? Iphone is 3.5", X10 is 4", of course the "smaller" screen looks better.

Yeah, but the iPhlegm does actually have double the resolution, so that's a moot point...
In all honesty, I was pretty amazed by the iPoo's specs, it does have amazing resolution, but do yo really need that much on a phone...?
Impressed, yes. Envious, no
Screen specs aside, what about some of the other sepcs, like Android OS vs. iShite OS - x10 wins hands down (even with 1.6)
Im not jelous of the iphone just consider flash on the iphone it is capable event whit his gazillion resolution screen

I agree, screen resolution isnt important on a SMART phone. Keyword smart, its for computing and being all around practical. by that respect almost all 'Droid' series phones win hands down as well as the X10.
Although name calling is alittle childish, Apple deserves it for their behavior toward customers in this 'ipoo 4' crap.

I really doubt they can fit a ccfl tube into a mobile phone. I think all smartphones have a led backlight.
Also nowhere on the internet is stated what sort of panel is used in the xperia x10.
on topic: All apple products are bad, only their macosx software is good. For example, their ipods have worse sound quality than other mp3 players that cost half as much. Their iphone 4 is a complete design flaw, it just sucks and android is a better os. At the moment the screen of de xperia x10 is limited to 65k colors, so we have to wait untill the update in Q3 or Q4 to see it's true potential.
And at some point it doesn't matter anymore how much pixels the screen has, because you can't see the individual pixels anymore. The screen of de X10 has enough pixels in my opinion.

How old are you? Do you expect to be taken seriously when you post things like "iPoo"?
To the OP: What's so "obviously better" about the screen? The fact that it's smaller? Both phones are incredibly clear and easy to read, not to mention bright.
To everyone: If you're so worked up over specs, why did you buy an X10? There are more things to a phone (and life, really...) than pure specs.

You beat me to it! I've been calling it that for ages!
The lack of colour range on the X10 is a tad annoying, although for most things you may not even notice it. It will be nice when SE releases 2.1 and the colour support is better.
As for the iPhones resolution; it's pretty nice. From what I've seen images are very crisp and clear. That being said, I ditched the iPhone/iPod Touch for the X10 because the screen was too small, not because the resolution was. That hasn't changed.
Hi guys,
I own a Xperia X10 ( latest firmware version available)and i had the opportunity yesterday to use a Samsung Galaxy S for the whole day. SGS belogs to a friend of mine.
Here are my impressions of the Sam G. S in comparasion to our "beloved" X10.
1.Screen
Colours are more vivid on SGS, but X10 has better resolution. I could differentiate the pixels on SGS, but not on X10. I'm quite picky with screen resolutions. I own a Iphone4 aswell and i can say X10 its not very behind iPhone4 concerning the screen resolution and crispness image. X10 just needs the 2.1 to boost to 16 million colours and get more vivid contrast.
2.Touch screen.
Exactly the same. They're balanced. I just wish to get MT on X10. MT can be useful in certain situations.
3. UI Performance.
Although X10 has the old 1.6 Android, i had the impression that lags less (mine doesn't lag at all and i´ve plenty of applications installed) than the SGS. I felt that the fluidity of X10 is pretty good, now that i've used my friends SGS for a whole day. Switching screens was more laggy and the refreshment rate was worse than on X10 - i couldn't believe what i was experiencing.
4. Multimedia.
Oh god. I've just to say that there isn't any phone with such a great audio quality as the X10. Miles ahead of the SGS and even Iphone4 that i also own. Crispy and balanced tones on X10. SGS was pretty average.
Video is also interesting: Refreshing rates / fps were the same watching the same movie. X10 is more crispy and the SGS has more vivid colours.
conclusion:
Android 2.1 will leverage X10 to a much higher level and it will be on pair or even better than almost all Android phones including those with the 2.2 version.
I'm not replacing my X10 for the SGS as i was planning before.
Hope it helps!
That seems like a fair comparison and is very inline with what I experienced using the AT&T Captivate. I had that device for 28 days and replaced it with the X10.
The lag is generally believed to be because of the file system Samsung chose (RFS). It's not clear why they chose RFS and the lag fixes floating around basically make a new data partition with EXT2, EXT3, or EXT4. It doesn't matter for me at this point but I'm glad I don't have to rely on Samsung to fix all the issues on their Galaxy S devices. There are many other annoyances on the Captivate but I won't bother listing them. The bottom line is that for me the X10 is a much better device.
Thank you very much for an interesting post in a long time and thank you for a good clean review! Very much appriciated

REALLY??? I hope you are not talking about x10's speaker audio quality..
i LOVE x10.. but seriously.. i have to listen to everything through bluetooth headset or an earphone.. the sound is HORRIBLE when you just have it on the speaker, and it hurts my ears.. especially on higher volumes...and yes.. i've compared it to other phones.. my lg new chocolate sounds a lot better compared to x10.. (only comparing the speaker audio quality)
Seems fair both phones have their positives and negatives, i think the 2.1 update will make the x10 a lot more solid, some people think theres not much difference between between 1.6 and 2.1, but it has its obvious advantages. preferably i would have liked to have seen 2.2 on there but hey il take whatever i can get.
I have both phones and I agree with some of what your saying, yes it lags a bit and text in definitely not as sharp
but in the multimedia you made no sense... The sgs is far better when it comes to watching movies the sharpness is basically the same as the x10 plus more vibrant colours (it also has divx support out of the box). Audio quality is superior on the sgs without a shadow of a doubt even the gsm arena say so(lets not forget it has an equaliser). It has a better battery life and its fully rooted with full boot loader access you have missed out so many sections, sigh maybe i should make my own proper comparison.
I agree having owned both. SGS colors "pop" more, but the colors are not accurate at all. I used to compare to my Nexus One and colors were actually way off on the Samsung.
SGS plays just about any video codec you throw at it which is nice. Listening through headphones the X10 kills it. The screen is just a smooth I think as well.
Go on a Captivate and read web text while scrolling very slowly. There is a really bad "rolling" effect that actually bugged me while using it.
When the X10 gets 2.1 it will certainly hang with the Galaxy S models in my opinion. I just wish the Xperia had the internal storage of the SGS line.
btw, gps performance on the X10 is spot on where Samsungs tend to not be great in that area. Even after their gps "fix" it won't be as fast and accurate as the X10.
I work for AT&T and I see many problems coming in with the Captivate. The browser crashes often and the phone reboots itself a few times a day sometimes. I owned one and my gf still owns one and her's has some of these issues.
Just for clarification:
i meant that the audio quality via headphones...using high quality headphones. Yes X10 is the best in the market. I owned a Nokia N900 and i did the comparasion as well.
Sorry for disagreeing, but the X10 is also more sharp watching videos than the SGS. SGS has to saturated colours.

Well i have to disagree in the audio department but thats down to audio taste i guess. But the sgs video quality is better than the x10 i have viewed the same HD video on both, side by side and you would be a fool to tell anyone the the x10 is better to look at.
Edit: In fact im looking at both now, the sgs blows it out of the water sorry. I can upload pics if you want proof.

Sure as soon as I get home around 6 ish my 14mp cam is at home.
What is the rom from SGS? I know that Sony Ericsson have 1GB SLC, 50% to ROM and 50% to Storage, in some websites shows 15GB of ROM to Samsung, others 2GB of ROM, 16GB os MLC in SGS is for ROM+Storage like the 1GB SLC in X10?
My best mate has a SGS. We compare all the time. For those in this thread that think the SGS screen is producing more saturated colours etc...
You are just not used to the REAL colours. The SGS has the best screen on the market. It has a 50000:1 contrast ratio! The blacks are near perfect. Which makes the non-black elements "pop" off the screen.
When we both load up the exact same black screen on the same brightness, my x10 looks like it's GREY compared to his SGS. I can use my full black screen in a dark bathroom as a dull light, he can not. As for video watching, the SGS screen is much clearer and and crisp. This is because of its extremely high contrast ratio. Moreover, the x10 on 1.6 can only show 65k colours on a TFT screen. While the SGS SAMOLED screen on 2.1 uses 16million!
I love my x10 guys, but the SGS screen and display is far superior and certainly looks like it when placed side by side with an x10.
Now, when x10 finally gets 2.1 which will allow the x10 to display 16m colours, it will be a whole lot different for comparison, but it still won't match up to the super high contrast ratio that the SGS has.
Samsung uses fake colours, the sony dont have the best screen, but is good, and with great resolution, Sony have 13.3' screen with 1920x1080 in notebooks, and others better than this, Apple and Sony are the kings of resolution

REAL colours and 50000:1 contrast ratios? HAHAHA. First off, maybe a handful of lcds in current production produce accurate colors and they're not put in mobiles. Secondly, 50000:1 contrast ratios is a marketing gimmick and means something, but it isn't an objective measure in any sense as different companies scale it differently.

Now that there is a huge exaggeration. Also, video quality also varies depending on the media file, player, And screen. Either way, lcd screens on mobiles aren't that great to begin with.

Maybe, but you certainly don't have any compelling arguments as to why the Galaxy S is better than the x10. Even with the increase in colors, how many can the eye actually distinguish from another? Certainly not 16 million.

Once again, contrast ratio is a subjective metric defined by manufacturers used as a marketing gimmick.

Samsung is known for it's great picture quality, from it's out of this world LED Tv's to it's cell phones.
the Samsung Galaxy is a superior phone. The X10 better get a lot better with the 2.1 upgrade. Otherwise, Im upgrading it to 2.1 just to add a selling point.
In 2009 it stays in 4th place in TVs...
1º Pionner Kuduro
2º Philips
3º Panasonic
4º Samsung
5º Sony
Something like that, so, nothing impressive... btw, i dont like the samsung colors, totally fake...

I've come from the iPhone 4s and I can tell you I'll never go back to Apple. The Xperia Z1 is a fantastic phone. The camera has never overheated for me, and I use it lots to record videos, take photos. The phone rooted is even more powerful, the battery easily lasts all day for me. It also lasts 2 days with light use.
It's a little big for some people, but I do so much with it, I won't be letting go of this phone for a while. It's fast, it's smart, it's a great design.
You won't regret buying it.
My gf has a G2 and I have a Z1, I really do prefer the Z1. Except smaller bezels and a slightly better screen IMHO the Z1 wins out on all areas. G2 UI is very touchwiz like, cluttered and looks like it drawn with crayons while Z1 is clean and super smooth. Z1

I wouldn't be so hasty to get this phone if I were you. I own both a S4 and a Z1 and I'd have to say that the S4 is way more value for money. It takes equivalent pics (despite having only 13 MP cam compared to Z1's 20MP), comparable performance in day-to-day use, much better screen, smaller size, removable battery, IR blaster. It's overall a more versatile device and I use it as my daily driver for that reason.
The only aspects Z1 has the S4 beat hands-down are the beautiful design, smooth and elegant UI and premium feel in hand. If these are important to you, then by all means consider the Z1. You should however be wary of the numerous issues plaguing this phone - worst of which is the touchscreen issue which I'm experiencing. Just look through the threads and you'll know what I mean.
I previously had the s4 and would never go back it would feel like a downgrade

Never had an issue with the camera(or anything else) myself and it has great battery life
Now the G2 has better viewing angles and more saturated colors so if that's your kind of thing, other than that well its up to you

I have the Z1, and my dad has the G2. I prefer the G2 for videos, as the screen is bigger and more comfortable to hold. Images taken with the G2 also tend to be less grainy from what I could see, and the colors seemed to be better, however, this is without adjusting any of the camera settings, since I unfortunately do not know how to fully utilize the camera. UI wise though, the Z1 wins by a longshot, the LG UI is a bastardized and even more cluttered version of Touchwiz.
Am Buying this device, decided to wait for 2014 flagship but as in official announcement Z1 will be the 2014 flagship this is a great device.
+ Point is expandable storage,which other phones like G2,Nexus 5 don't have.
Development is little slower, but not abandoned. Will try to port MIUI As well.

Here's my point of view. I've used LG g2 for a brief period and let me tell you, it has the best smartphone display I've ever seen in my life. The reviews don't mention it or nor do they do justice to it. It's almost like you're touching the words when you're browsing the Web . I hate their UI but that's something that can be easily fixed with a launcher like nova or apex. Having said that let me move on to the next one.
Galaxy s4, this device I've had for almost three months. I used to own the Google edition. I know you didnt asked for this to be compared but since some of the guys mentioned above I thought I'd add my pov. It's a nice device. The screen is beautiful, the camera is decent, supports sd card, removeable battery and ir blaster. Decent phone but if you look past this some of these features are novelties plus you're getting a processor ie a generation behind. I also I don't know if it's just me but the phone tends to get boring really fast.
Now to the final one. The z1. After looking at the first two devices you'll immediately notice one thing. The xperia z1 has the worst viewing angles than any phone I've ever used. It's horrific. It kinda reminds me of Sega game gear from the 80's. Some people might tell you it doesn't bother them but according to me their are not paying attention. In order to get the complete image quality you need to hold the phone straight to your face. Even a tiny 5 degree tilt will make the images look washed out. The closed thing I can compare it with is the 3m privacy screen protectors for computer monitors. Try one out and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Now, if you look past the horrible viewing angles things start looking up for the Z1. Here are some of the advantages over g2: outstanding building quality, sd card support, amazing battery life, outstanding camera, water proof and better ui (in my opinion).
The camera: anyone whose stating above that g2's or s4s camera is great is incorrect. The reason being the displays. These phones have saturated displays with higher contrast ratios which automatically makes the pictures look better. However if you were to take pictures on all three phones and to watch the pictures on a monitor, you'll see that the xperia z1 clearly has the best camera. As per reviews and benchmarks the z1's camera is only second to lumia 1020 and that's saying something.
So, now you decide. Based on your requirement z1 looks like an obvious choice. Personally for me I'm using z1. But what I would have liked to use is the LG g2. The only reason I went with z1 is because of the SD card support, camera is not a priority for me.
I've had both and the G2 pimp slaps the Z1.. The display which way better and because of the smaller bezels, you get a bigger screen with the G2 and its the same size as the Z1.. My screen time on the stock G2 with same brightness is about 1.5 hours better than the Z1.. Viewing angles are better... The Z1 weighs like a brick and although better built then the G2 and feeling better to hold, I prefer the G2 due to its lightness... The Z1 is clumsy IMO.. Software wise, Sony is better.. LG UI is like Bloatwiz but less way less laggy.. Sony UI is faster and I do miss that... Camera on G2 doesn't have all the yellow hue problems but low light focusing is atrocious... Lack of SD is a problem but you can get around it with an external micro USB SD card reader... On the whole, no regrets here getting the G2..

Storage is the main reason I spent $700 on the 6906 version of this device. I have really missed the expandable storage and always having to pull things off the G2 becomes a real pain in the butt.

I can agree with you on a lot of your points, but as far as battery life, the G2 is unbelievable! I use my phone as much as anyone. I can get 6+ hours of on screen time along with close to 3 hours of talk time in a single charge and still be at 15% before needing to charge the phone. It has a 3000 battery like the Z1. Time will tell on the Z1 and it is doing well so far. If it can truly do better on battery than the G2, I will be highly impressed.
For me, I primarily use the camera for snapping pictures of my daughter, work projects and just day to day things. I don't own another camera so I need to rely heavily on my phone. I am still learning the ins and outs of the camera on the Z1, but the settings right out of the box seem to pretty low standard. However, if you put the camera in manual mode, choose the 20.7 resolution and then use the multi focus mode, they are MUCH better than what you get from the superior auto option.
These are just my opinions and experience.

Well my friend its share you got this phone if can't tell the difference... How sharp the screen looks depends on the image it shows.... Also you can open any Internet browser on both z1 And sola As you mention, then open any web page with text And zoom in all the way if you still can't see the difference Then you need to get glasses or Have your eyes checked... Peace

Well higher resolution means that you will see worse display from low quality material and epic quality from full HD material. DVD rips looked fine on my Xperia Play (480x854) and on XZ1 they don't look good.
If you have a big TV or monitor above 23" you surely will know what I'm talking about.
Websites, UI and stuff like this look perfectly fine. It's up to the resolution how does it look on the screen.

I kinda noticed "grainyness" with the display when viewing videos. Really didn't like it at all, and it looked bad compared to the Xperia S I had been using a week prior.
Well, I found that while the X-Reality setting made colours "pop" in videos and pictures, things seemed to get kinda grainy looking. I've been running with it off for a few days now, and I reckon it looks much clearer now. Plus, vids and pics don't look like they have been artificially tweaked with.
This is the worst 1080p screen I have ever seen in a mobile phone.
Phone is owesome, but the screen!!!
don have any problems with the display ! its super sharp and to notice the diff. u need to view a full HD image any low quality pic will look worse as the display will DISPLAY more of it hope u got what i mean.
Another test open any PDf .. on 1080p displays you will read the texts much easier but on low ppi u will need to zoom in alittle to make it clear.

I have to agree, this screen sucks compared to any other 1080p screen. But I have to admit there are moments when the screen makes me say wow that looks amazing but unfortunately the Sun moon and stars have to line up correctly for me to say that

Sola is 3.7 inches and has a ppi of 265.
300 dpi is the norm when printing beyond which telling the difference gets harder.
you're about 40 ppi away from being able to tell the difference. The difference will not be that significant but if you look carefully it will be there. Which to you means the display looks similar. Had the sola screen been bigger and the ppi around 200 then the difference would have been more prominent when compared to Z1.

Very, very happy with the screen here, nice and bright, sharp, lovely colours, especially when coming from an amoled. Even the viewing angles are not quite as bad as some complain and through my eyes, the white looks white.

Come from a note too, honestly enjoyed Amoled, however, I am really not sure where the complaints are coming from.
There's some threads claiming not all the screens are the same, I'm either viewing my display from tired eyes or I got lucky, no idea.
Put it this way, side by side with my wife's note 3, the only thing I'm jealous about is the IR blaster.

well, on the same vintage theme(stock theme), i noticed that the theme looks sharper & crispier in the z1 at sony booth. in my z1, the vintage theme doesnt looks sharp & crisp, just normal.
I checked other phones including G2, Note 3, S4. Z1 has no match. But I hear Sony uses different brands of displays for the variants of its phones. If it's true, different users from different areas around the world will have different results. I watched full hd movies, pictures, photos from z1. The results are significantly better than other high end phones. But do not expect hight quality resolution from low quality media. You can't have it. That's why SD broadcast sucks at full hd screens. I even witnessed 4K television showed a full hd video in very low qualty.
First, I'd like to say that I'm not trying to hate on Sony or bash them, just pointing out that what they call "the best of Sony" isn't exactly great or better than the competition, though I really just want to point out about the display and camera. I moved on from the Note 3 to the Z1 (lost my Note 3, wanted a good phone with a good camera for a low price so I got an Xperia Z1), and here's what I've noticed.
Display:
Well, there's no other way to say it: for a flagship phone, the Z1's display isn't that great. Viewing angles are poor, and viewing it at even small angles puts a whitish hue over it that just doesn't look good. It might be good for privacy, but otherwise it's plain to see that they're using an inferior IPS tech than other manufacturers. The Note 3 or the Nexus 5's displays are clearly much better, and so is the one on the HTC One from early 2013. I've heard that the Z1 Compact finally has a great screen among Sony devices, so that's great, but I feel that many Sony fans are clearly ignorant of how much greener the grass in on the other side when it comes to displays.
Camera
To be honest, this is the biggest disappointment I've had with the Z1. I don't know if Sony was focusing purely on lossless zoom when adding the 20MP camera, but when it comes to resolved detail and visible noise, the Note 3's camera was better despite no fancy tech and standard sensor. Sure, it has a 13MP camera while the Z1 takes photos at 8MP after downsampling, but in general its photos are clearer and more detailed. I've tried taking 20MP pics, and they just do not come out as great as one would expect (if they focused on lossless zoom, even that hasn't worked out well in general outdoor photos), and Sony has basically squandered a nice opportunity.
But on the flip side, I love some things about the camera. It's fast to open (mainly thanks to the camera button), it's smooth, and is quick to change modes, which helped a lot on my weekend trip with my family.) I don't like that HDR isn't a dedicated mode and is simply a switch when you select 8MP photos in Manual, but other than that, it's pretty good overall. In fact, the quickness and the shutter button are what make me ignore the fact that in quality I've come down to a noticeably not-so-great-at-capturing-detail camera (the Note 3 took ages to select modes, open the camera app, and open pictures.)
That's something that's true in Sony's software overall: it's beautiful, sleek, and quick and responsive. I do miss some features from the Note 3 (Multi-Window, Smart Stay (extremely useful when you can't be bothered touching the screen to keep it awake), some camera modes, and the better multitasking (my Z1 is abysmal at holding apps in memory, and not because it's just 2GB of RAM.) It feels good to use, and that's a pretty good thing.
But again, the screen and camera have let me down considerably. Again, on the flip side, I love the phone's build (though it's a bit too bulky, but then it is waterproof), and things like the lanyard slot and camera button (conveniences manufacturers have forgotten in their quest to copy and follow Apple since the first iPhone arrived on the market).
So in the end it's clear that "the best of Sony" just isn't the right thing to say when your tech is behind the competition in some things and just isn't as great as owners of flagship devices of the competition have become used to. The pricing is great, though, but I kinda don't think I'd want to save a few bucks next time I want a phone, not unless Sony focuses on making the hardware more complete regarding awesomeness.
Sorry for the rant, and again, I wasn't bashing, overall I like my Z1, just don't love it (yet)!
P.S.: My Galaxy Gear is also now sitting idle, but I guess we can blame Samsung for making its watch incompatible with other devices. It's a useful watch, but not in use anymore. There is a hack to make it work with others, I tried it with the Z1, but most stuff just doesn't work. So I guess I'll buy Sony's smartwatch next. :silly:
P.P.S.: I hope KitKat comes soon. I like that Sony takes time to test its software, but with Samsung and HTC moving pretty quick with KitKat despite having heavy skins, and Samsung has even managed to not introduce any quirky bugs (they disabled third-party accessories, but an update over the weekend reversed that), I really want KitKat to come quick. I want wireless printing support (Samsung had this even before KitKat, one of the few reasons I appreciate Samsung's bloat sometimes, it has some useful features), and it might also solve the issue of lack of RAM on the Z1, even if only a little bit.

Saturday Night? You should be in some club! ..ahah...just kidding...I know...I am really disappointed by the camera too....what I can surely said is that the problem of the camera quality is related to the Software, but I don't know if we will get better pictures. Many telling me that the Z1 make amazing pictures but mine is not fake and I still not get clear pictures like it should be. Full of Noise, and with Unlocked Bootloader get even worse.
I understand what you're saying, and you have valid points, but these type of complaints come up with every phone out there.
The HTC One has exactly the same Camera complaint that you do. The UltraPixel was a big disappointment for some. The thing about the Z1's camera is that it CAN be improved. The camera is actually extremely good if you use it in manual, and the pictures that come out are the best I've seen on an Android phone. Superior Auto is a bit of a mess though. That's a software problem, not hardware, so we hope kitKat can fix that.
The display is a valid complaint, but I feel head on it's better than the Note 3. The Z1 has one of the most color accurate screens out there, which I prefer over AMOLED oversaturation. The viewing angles personally for me isn't a problem but yes, it is a negative about this phone.
So in the end it's clear that "the best of Sony" just isn't the right thing to say when your tech is behind the competition in some things and just isn't as great as owners of flagship devices of the competition have become used to

Well, the Z1 IS the best of Sony...not sure what you're trying to say. I still feel like the Z1 is one of the best phones out there. Although lacking in some parts, the overall package is hard to beat: Snapdragon 800 processor, great battery life, great camera (Yes the camera is still very very good, just not as good as advertised), and best of all premium feeling. There is really no other phone that has all that together in one package right now. The Note 3 is better in some respects but for me feels cheap, and that is a HUGE con for me that overshadows anything else. The Nexus 5 has meh battery life and camera. The HTC One has a meh camera and lower end specs. The Galaxy S4 is no longer talked about when discussing high-end phones.
The point is there's no 'perfect' phone, and I concede that the Z1 does have weaknesses, but so does every other electronic device out there

My advice to you, since it appears you wrote this to practice the writing career you're hoping to have, is to consider other career options. You're not good at this.
learn to make the picture and you will find Z1 camera is great. all the comparatives with Note 3 and the other smartphones take Z1 on the top of Android world
display is very good. poor viewing angle are not a gap, but I can assume it is subjective.
when I watch photos and videos on Z1 display they are much nicer than on other displays.

Not so sure about that ...
HTC has the best software updates ATM and fastest after Google.
It has the best low light camera + best smart flash with the 5 modes
Average daylight shots
best front cam with wide angle
The best mics hdr mics
The best speakers
The best headphones sound
It's the most quality phone
It has the best screen in overall
It has unmatched feel in the hand
Ir blaster
Ois
60 fps video + zoe + really working hdr video
BlinkFeed which is still unmatched with copies
Decent battery life
Great xda development
Most of these things aren't yet matched by the competition which is shame imo since htc one is 1 year old and it's still considered the best overall package phone even in 2014 and I doubt anything but HTC one 2 will surpass it which is only a month or two away.
A lot on that list are gimmicks and a few items there are disputable. If HTC were as ahead of everyone as you make them appear to be, then that's extremely incongruent to the terrible shape the company is in.

I don't want to get in a fight about whose phone is better, but everyone's got different preferences in a phone. A lot of the points you mentioned are opinions, and really can't be said in a comparison.
The most 'quality' phone and 'ummatched feel' is extremely subjective.
The Z1 is no less in quality than the HTC One and has as premium materials.
The Moto X and Z1 compact both have better feel, just because they're smaller.
Z1's battery life has been much better for me than HTC One in my experience.
Headphone sound is exactly the same for me. Beats is a gimmick and just a equalizer preset which I can also set on my Z1.
I will admit the HTC One's speakers is miles ahead of the Z1's and the display is better.
Camera as well is a lot better in the Z1 in daylight, but I remember you're the guy who wrote that HTC One vs Z1 camera test and I don't want to get in a fight again about that, so I won't go there. HTC One's better in low light, but the Z1 isn't that bad either.
The Z1's camera has a ton more features as well that are pretty cool to play around with. Gimmicks? Sure, but they're still fun. Also the Z1's viewfinder is much smoother.
All front facing cameras suck equally and don't believe there's a 'best' front facing camera.
edit: Oh, also concerning updates: This is the first time HTC have actually done well with updates. We'll see a year from now how they treat HTC One users. One X and One X+ users are stuck with official 4.2 while the Xperia T, which came out around the same time+, just got updated to 4.3. Sony might be slower at giving updates but they support their phones longer.
See, I just refuted half of your points. Of course you will disagree with me, but that's what's great about Android: everyone has different preferences and different opinions on what's the best. The HTC One is a fantastic phone and is my number 2 after the Z1, but it's still not the best for me. Nothing wrong with that.

What exactly is gimmic ?
Ir blaster is very useful
Ois is very helpful in low light / movement or any other type of using the camera / 60 fps video is smooth as camera app on z1 and looks like you're looking thru the glass when watching an video / hdr video is awesome as well at low light , so is the zoe especially if you wanna take out some snaps after which are full sized , I forgot slow motion video as well which is fun tho.
Smart flash is very useful indeed and can take photos from 5cm in pitch black up to 10 meters , with the walls it can go even further
Stereo frontal speakers ...how is this a gimmic lol , anything you do on a phone sounds crazy good + loud + it hits you in the face.
Full metal body is always a good thing , it screams premium ...
Feel in the hand indeed is unmatched due metal + device shape
hdr mics pick up the sound you wouldn't believe that the phone is doing it.
I've forgot also talking via phone is unmatched as well , you get stereo sound + you can talk in super loud environment perfectly fine.
Headphones sound wouldn't be a gimmic as well lol ... Ppl just use that ...on daily bases ..
Software updates is definitely not an gimmic we all want fast and working updates ASAP ,which is not the case with the Sony , it's far from it.
Xda development for me personally is very important since I love to flash + the fact HTC one has about 9/10 times more development it's a must have for me.
The only gimmicky thing would be if you don't like the the BlinkFeed that'd be all which can be turned off.
