[Q] Reinstalling Timescape

Hi. Been searching everywhere and cant find a way to reinstall timescape.
I have tried system/apps but the apk is not there anymore or anything that is connected to Timescape.
The reason I deleted timescape is because it is one of the reasons that the battery life is so bad on the X10.
Now I cant get to my contacts. I am using acontacts.apk but for some reason the resolution is very bag on my contacts pics.
I have found a timescape.apk but it says it cannot install on my device. Maybe the apk is compatible for certain builds?
Maybe someone can suggest another app for contacts with a better pic resolution.

You need to correct the permissions of the apk file once you have copied it over to system\app otherwise it will give you the error you stated in your earlier post.

I thought that there were diff. versions of timescape.apk for diff. firmwares thats y it didnt work with the one I dl

it is not for installing but U have to copy it to System/App folder and set permision for it same as other files in that folder. I use Root explorer to copy and set permision

can i set permission with astro file manager?

Can we use CM7 themes with Oxygen? If so How?

Take ThemeChooser.apk and ThemeManager.apk from CM and it should work.

did that and a reboot but nothing changed i cant see theme manager or chooser in my app drawer
i install apks of cm7 themes but still nothing happens

If you put .apk's in /system/app you need to change the permissions to rw-r--r-- then reboot

i already put them there by changing the r/o to r/w and rebooted afterwards
still no theme chooser app
and also realised that theme chooser was never installing instead it was giving an error ( actually not an error,just saying its not installed and aborting the process )

Yes but you still need to change the permissions for each file. After moving them, long click on the file and select permissions, change it to rw-r--r-- then reboot and it should work.

[Q] make default system app

uhm i recently found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413341
and i want this app to be my default SYSTEM app, in short i want to uninstall "samsung keyboard" and replace this wp7 keyboard (click the link). i want to make it my default system keyboard.
any suggestion? guide? i'm noob/..

use titanium backup to remove the samsung keyboard from system,
then use adb push, to install the new keyboard, it goes to the /system/app
but i'd suggest just downloading smart keyboard if you want a keyboard + lots of theme support

one question..
can i install holo launcher using root explorer? i will forcely move holo launcher to become a system app?
and i will uninstall samsung home?

anything saved to the /system/app is a system app

I truly think you are right but please tell him to set permissions as it will not be visible unless u set permission's and in my view use link2sd for these purposes as it includes an option directly to convert it to a system or user app............ :cyclops:

Speaking of permissions, after you move an apk to /system/app...set the permissions to rw-r-r. I think both shivamsejal and deathnotice forgot to say that. And link2sd is good too, but who wants to remain a noob in these things?

You did tell him to set permissions, but how will he know that the permissions should be set to rw-r-r or rwx-r-r or r-rw-rwx, etc.? There are so many different kinds of permissions. Permissions should be the right one, not just any one.

Yiu definitely wont recieve sms if you renove stock mms.apk... suggest you just hide if your launcher supports hiding apps

actually mms.apk can be removed and you can still recieve messages,
if you use go sms, handecent, pansi you'd be able to recieve messages with or without stock messaging,
the phone.apk is the one reponsible for the cellular radio decoding and recieving,
if you remove that you'll have no signal

Replacing apps to system.
I have the repencis 3.5 advanced with PCB blue theme, awesome rom BTW! As you know it comes with system replaced. I want to replace stock browser with chrome browser as system app, unless you have better faster browser . Open to suggestions. I followed directions but it didn't work. Please help, thank you! Blackpanther, thanks for the system/app/paste app info it worked great. Shevas I still haven't needed the permissions setting but thanks for the info aswell.

When converting a user app to system, what else changes besides permissions? I'm using cod rom with katsugi kernel. Some apps wont work properly even though permissions are set right like quickpic on this rom, but it worked as system app on repencis. I will appreciate a reply thanks

You need to extract lib files of apk and put it in /system/lib and set permission to rw-r--r... use root explorer tap on the apk then tap on view it will open up contents of apk file navigate to lib folder and choose folder named armeabi cause that is the lib files for our phone which is armv6 extract contents of that folder aand follow the procedure i gave abive on where to put them
touch /human/brain
chmod +x /human/brain
echo "make thirdzcee a sandwich" /human/brain

But this does not work with all replacement mms like ics mms for example you wont recieve sms if you reolace stock with it

So I got the quickpic app to work. Thanks for that info. But I tried to do the same with ics picture gallery and I followed the steps but no lib folder. This was also a system app on another rom. I looked for the lib files of this app in the system/lib but there was nothing there. Btw I was having trouble with smart keyboard pro but I found and fixed permissions in system/lib for that too. Thanks! So where else can the lib files hide if not in system/lib or apk/"view"/lib/armeabi/? Thanks again 3rdzc

screen rotation not working

Hello,
Since a couple of days my screen rotation does not work anymore. Yes I turned off and on and also rebooted.
I used to check at *#0*#, it passed the test.
i think I maybe deleted something in system/app,
but don't know what.. Can anybody help me please

If your phone is rooted and your in a custom rom then do this , but if your on stock rom , try to install samsunghub. apk and use the search button to look for the app
1. extract libgnustl_shared.so from system>lib of your rom's zip.
2. Copy and paste to System>>lib and change permission to rw-r--r--
3. Reboot and enjoy!

If you have a custom recovery then download the file from here and flash away. but if you dont have a custom recovery then use a root explorer and push the file in lib directory. and set permission

Thanks to @G2sws for originally posting this for me!
Here is how to install SBrowser (Stock samsung Browser) on VZW GS5 (should work for att as well).
Need to be rooted and have RW/R privledges with a file explorer. I use Root Explorer!
(1) DOWNLOAD file 1:*https://www.mediafire.com/?5s6c4kwwkctn5tm
(2) UNZIP FILE
(3) DOWNLOAD file 2: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8ftn83hn9ofjup4/libswev8.so
(4) COPY file 2 to device/system/lib (Set permissions to RW- R- R-)
(5) Go to your Unzipped file 1: copy the SBrowser.apk & SBrowser_Try.apk to device/system/app (set permissions to RW- R- R-)
(6) GO BACK TO YOUR UNZIPPED file 1: copy libsbrowser.so & libsbrowser_ext.so to /system/lib (Set permissions to RW- R- R-)
(7) RESTART YOUR DEVICE AND PROFIT!!

Need to be rooted and have RW/R privledges with a file explorer. I use Root Explorer!
These are the steps to install the working GS5 SBrowser on VZW GS5.
(1) DOWNLOAD file 1: https://www.mediafire.com/?5s6c4kwwkctn5tm
(2) UNZIP FILE
(3) DOWNLOAD file 2: https://mega.co.nz/#!9Y8T0SBI!SHJMiU...frvwgC8SHMI_H8 (I had to download Mega app to get this file, but deleted it right after)
(4) COPY file 2 to device/system/lib
(5) Go to your Unzipped file 1: copy the SBrowser.apk & SBrowser_Try.apk to device/system/app (set permissions to RW/R/R)
(6) GO BACK TO YOUR UNZIPPED file 1: copy libsbrowser.so & libsbrowser_ext.so to /system/lib
(7) RESTART YOUR DEVICE AND PROFIT!!!

Not sure what could be causing this. I have not had any problems with it since install. You could try leaving all files in place and clicking on the apk. And selecting install. Also did you change permissions to RW- R- R-?

Looks like the lib files need to be set to RW-R-R as well. Maybe just update the OP and state that under the steps because it is only mentioned to set permissions on the apk files

Did it work changing the Lib permissions? I dont recall having to do so... not saying i didnt, just dont recall it.

It is the new one, from a leak before S5 came out. VZW decided not have it on their version as VZW likes to make you have only what THEY want on your device.
The lay out is different, has the option to have a bookmark home or a physical homepage. It has a home button unlike chrome. You can download videos direct from this browser as well where on chrome alot of times it would not download files and i had to use yet another app taking up space on my phone. I believe it allows for flash as well unlike chrome.
Its all about personal preference, i like google as my homepage and not my favorites or bookmarks, i like the lay out and options, i like the home button in the browser, it is plenty fast, i like direct downloads, and i havent tried a flash page yet.. but on previous versions it worked great.

Oh yeah and the Air browse and motion controls do not work in chrome but do within this browser... need to be turned on within phone settings of course.
