Does anyone know if it possible to root the Rogers Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337m) that is running 4.4?
If so, please post below. Thanks.
I believe you can do it with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293800

I believe you can use chainfire's method cfauto root.... once you load a custom recovery you can use this rom which is pretty much stock (do a nand backup of your stock rom first, and do a seperate backup of your efs partition just incase) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375180
So I just decided to go with it, and it rooted, and I did use CF-Auto-Root for it, so it worked.
Thanks for the help anyways guys!

Hi All,
Am using an i337M S4 from Rogers here in Canada and was wondering if it was possible to use ODIN and try out the new leaked 4.4 firmware. Is rooting required to achieve this?

First you must be certain the leak is for i337m model becuase there is the international version and the US version which are both different from the model you have (I have the same but Telus). Now as far as the files, if they are in .tar format then you can flash via Odin, if thet are .zip then you need a custom recovery to flash them. I know for certain you need to root to go the custom recovery route, I think you need to be rooted to flash they system files in Odin also (which if it is a stock rom you are flashing would loose root following the flash). Depending of the root method you choose be aware also that you may trip the Knox counter also, definately if you install a custom recovery. There a number of 4.4 roms for the i337m already that are not stock and are rooted, you may want to look at these also. Most importantly... before you attempt anything read...read ... read... there are pity falls you can end up in if you don't pay close attention......

Thanks for the reply .. actually I had a S2 before which was rooted and I used many different ROMs on it. I did root the S4 once as well but then lost it when I did the 4.3 update. Since then I never tried to re-root, is there an easy way too root right now for the i337M with 4.3?
If you are on stock unrooted 4.3 you should get official 4.4 update soon.
Also, questions go in the qna section not the development section

If you wait for the update you will likely be waiting longer for a root solution... if you want to root the phone, look up chainfire's CF-auto root for i337m

You have to downgrade to MK2 use safe strap to install the stock NB1 rooted rom then remove safe strap it's all here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825

Just wanted to toss this one out there, use Kingo root, (When that is done and you try to update SU binary, it fails right from the get-go.) update SuperSU by chainfire in the Play Store, open SuperSU and update binaries. rooted and done.
BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I CAN'T GET TWRP TO INSTALL WITHOUT A SOFT-BRICK. I guess I'm going through terminal emulator -.-
so i haven't been on the scene for a few months i check back every once in awhile but i have still seem to have found nothing yet so i figure id ask maybe i missed something anyways
just wondering is there any way to root galaxy s4 (bell i337) on kitkat 4.4.2 without tripping knox yet?
(not interested in doing custom roms as i know that trips knox just looking to root my device)

I thought Bell had i337m. If you are on i337, the downgrade, root, and Safestrap doesn't trip Knox since Safestrap doesn't go in the recovery partition. That includes if you flash stock ROM with root or any custom ROM compatible, since Safestrap doesn't flash kernels.

This will put you on MK2 with root from NB1/NC1, then you can just flash the stock ROM in this thread (it has nothing changed but added root and an optional tethering addon) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2730144

ok a few more questions.
on link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825
the steps are:
1. Place the I337UCUFNB1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM in the root of your ext sdcard.
*2. Download the I337_NB1toMK2_Downgrade file(MD5:FAC95B4CC7743FAE34BC42EBFBAF751A), extract the .tar and flash in PDA slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+) to obtain semi-functioning(no-wifi) MK2.
3. Use your favorite root method to root MK2, e.g. Saferoot, Kingo Root App, then install the latest Safestrap v3.72(NB1)apk (Download and learn more about Safestrap from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2448925).
4. Boot into Safestrap recovery, perform an advanced wipe, and wipe everything except ext sdcard.
5. Flash the ROM zip in the "Stock Slot."
6. Press "Home," then reboot into Download Mode and flash the I337_NB1_Stock_Kernel(MD5:A9B3BCD7CA16CB77652516E6117A5B81) in PDA slot in Odin(AP in Odin v3.09+).
so first question is how does one place something in the root of your ext sd card
secondly i honestly forgot how to use odin, dont i need to put my phone in download mode to flash? what is the sequence to put the phone in download mode if so? Does USB debugging need to be on?
also there is a note on this thread - once you have completed steps 1 - 4 below consider flashing the NC1_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM from Post#3 in the following thread instead of NB1 to obtain the latest firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2730144.
i know you might or might not have written any of these threads but you do have a clearer understanding than i do, that being said in regards to the note above would you say follow all the steps but use the NC1 ROM instead of the NB1 ROM? or Use the NB1 Rom do all of it then jump to the link you provided?

If you have an i337m you don't need or want safestrap. Just put a recovery on and start flashing roms. Here's a little help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41010145

Hi guys,
I am currently using stock and rooted 4.4.2 firmware (international version) and I want to update my N9005 to official Lollipop, specifically this rom. Can I update it via Odin or do I have to get back to non-rooted stock 4.4.2 and then update to 5.0? Am I going to lose all my data with flashing this 5.0 rom?
Also, after updating, is it possible to root stock lollipop rom?
Thanks in advance guys!
Yes, sure you can flash that ROM in Odin, no need to go back to stock unrooted 4.4.2, doesn't matter if you are rooted or not currently, or even if you are using a custom ROM.
However I can't say whether upgrading will cause loss of data or not, I always wipe my phone before upgrading so I can't say that, sorry.
Yes, you can root Lollipop easily further.

If you're rooted you can install a custom recovery like TWRP and do a nandroid backup in Recovery. Then later you can Restore data. Note Custom Recovery will most likely trip Knox so if you are still on 0x0 Warranty bit (check in Download Mode screen) you should probably rely on Titanium Backup or similar to back up all your user apps and data to extSDCard.

Thanks guys, appreciate it! Can you please send me a link to the custom recovery which is by your opinion the best, I suppose TWRP? And also, if you can, send me a tutorial for rooting the lollipop. Thanks!

The Team Win project thread is in the Original Android Development forums - go here and read up on it before you try. Note the up to date versions are in the techerrata mirror link.
LP root guide - you will need to do a search - not something I've had to look for - it was JB when I rooted my phone.
At first try I've failed in Odin with flashing this rom, and I've tried to do it again and strangely it succeeded. Android L looks and feels great and very smooth, thanks guys for your help! Also, all of my data stayed where they were before flashing, so that's another plus for this flashing.
Please friends am very new here and I want to flash a custom ROM but dont know which rom to go for, I am using Samsung galaxy s4 att baseband 1337UCUFNJ5. I have root the device with kingroot but I don't know whether flashing CWM/TWRP recovery will be safe. Please I need a guide because I am been stocked at Android V. 4.4.4 KitKat and am not receiving OTA update from att

First off you're in the wrong forum. Next, you're on the NJ5 bootloader so you can only install safe strap recovery and only boot custom ROM that is based on Samsung touch wiz. I suggest finding an ODIN file that'll update you to a newer firmware. OTA probably isn't working because you've rooted the phone.
Thanks man
