I'm having a very weird problem here. I decided to get USB OTG for my phone and flashed a zip that's has worked for me before. Everything worked fine, until I discovered that my SD card didn't mount. Root Explorer could find it fine, or at least the files from it in emulated/0 but ES File Explorer couldn't (both apps had Sdcard as a file in the root, with a toast appearing that told me it wasn't mounted when I tried clicking on it), nor could any app that needed internal storage for something (be it the camera, Play Store couldn't install apps and an emulator I have couldn't find the file/folder). I tried flashing the "recovery zip" from the thread (I will link to it) but that did nothing. TWRP could mount the SD card, unlike everything else though. In addition to that, all three file managers (Root Explorer, ES and TWRP's file manager) had conflicting stuff in the root directory. TWRP was able to mount SDcard, but couldn't find a folder named "storage" that the other two could. Root Explorer could also find the recovery zip that I moved to the root (since I wasn't able to download stuff, I had to use OTG to get it on the device), while the other two couldn't. Root explorer could also find the emulated/0 folder which contained all the files and folders from the SDcard. This is very strange and I haven't been able to find anything on this. Factory reset is my last resort, mainly because it takes so long for titanium backup to set up all the apps again .
Here's some info on my phone (before I flashed the USB OTG zip):

Faux Kernel
Multi ROM Manager installed
TWRP as a custom recovery

bump, please. I can't do a titanium backup, which means if I factory reset, I will lose everything. I have some good scores on some great game, might sound a little sad but I don't want to lose it, plus some other stuff that I've managed to accumulate that will piss me off if I lose it. Anyone?

Hello, I recently picked up a 16GB thumb drive to offload some of my backups from my Nexus7. I successfully made a Rom backup using TWRP to the external storage and have transfered a few files via Root Explorer to the Flash Drive.
The point I am trying to make, is that I can read/write to the card both in TWRP and Root Explorer.
When I opened Titanium Backup (TiBu) I go to preferences, then to Backup Folder Location. I then realize that the system needs to find a backup folder already in place to "Use the current folder". Back to Root Explorer where I transfer my TitaniumBackup folder from /storage/emulated/0/ to /storage/usbotg/
After this and back in TiBu, I find my new location (on the usb) and "Use current folder". Seems to me like I should be all good, so I start a small backup. I receive an error about insufficient space. I know there are still about 12GB free. When I return to Backup Folder Location in TiBu, I realize there is a red flag under the 2 info bubbles saying "This folder is not writable".
I feel that I'm going crazy. I've scoured Titanium Track's website for support, Googled all over the place, and checked a few forums, but I can't seem to get any answers. Please point out my stupid mistake!!!!!

I had this problem to. My USB stick was NTFS... So I formated it back to FAT32 and Titanium backup worked fine again...

On my Nexus 6 I have a Flash Drive connected via OTG, I am using StickMount to mount it in the file system, I can use it without any problem from TWRP, RootExplorer, Media Players, etc. The Flash drive is formatted using FAT32. When I try to configure Titanium Backup to use it as the destination folder for backup, I can get to the folder where the drive is mounted but the option "Use the current folder" is dimmed and I cannot press it to select the folder, please any help or guidance will be appreciated, thanks

This fix rewrites your platform.xml file so the android system will read/write to USB drives. Worked for me on a tronsmart vega s89-h (android tv box with a rom that spoofs a nexus 10 for app purposes), but use at your own risk, of course.

However, the phone seems to know where to fetch the backup but I can't locate it personally on the phone either through the PC or using file managers on the device like Root Explorer and Solid Explorer. I even used Solid Edxplorer to change permissions so that I could see all hidden files. Still, all I saw was a 35 byte file named .recovery_version located in /sdcard/clockworkmod with these permissions: rw-rw-r-- and from what I see in the properties of the file it is an MD5. That is all I see. In clockworkmod recovery, the backup is quoted to be in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup. I can't see that file on my device. Why aren't I seeing this nandroid backup of mine yet it is in the internal storage? I want to move it from my ohone to PC to free up space since it occupies around 3 GB of the precious storage (you all know the storage issues the GS4 is facing don't you?). Help please.

your backup is located in Data/Media/clockworckmod
use es explorer, enable root, move clockworckmod folder to sd card then to your pc
or use adb command to pull it to your pc

If you cannot see or find it in your /sdcard internal, look in your external sdcard /clockworkmod
folder and sub directories in that folder.
The backups are either in internal or external sdcard /clockworkmod and it's sub-directories

Really appreciate this. Was looking around and noticed my phone storage was fairly low, and couldn't find my stock backup to save my life. Googled this and it brought it right up! Again, thanks! Was fixing to make another backup of my current setup and realized I didn't have enough room lol.

I had similar issue.
Your advice resolved it for me as it was exactly where you pointed.
I go about it a bit differently. Under settings in CWMR you can change the backup location to the external sdcard. Do your backup, connect your phone to the pc and copy it off like any other file. The only downside is you need the available space on your card.

Until you are on the road and need that backup because you got a bad dl. Unless you keep a zip drive on you.. Which is actually a good idea. I switched over to twrp so I can save it to extsd.

Brain fart. I meant to say I change the settings in ROM Manager not CWMR.
I think we are talking about doing the same thing but with different apps. I change the location setting in ROM Manager which I use for my backups and it automatically saves the backup to the extsd instead of the device. I then copy it to my pc but always maintain the latest backup on my extsd in case I need it wherever I am. Done and done. No annoying copying from device to extsd to pc or using download server or an adb pull needed.
It's personal preference to use ROM Manager with CWMR or TWRP. It doesn't matter to me. I started off using clockworkmod's apps some time ago and am happy with them. I just moved to 4.2.2 and noticed how ROM Manager handles the backups differently and the number of questions regarding how to get them off their phone. This is my solution and how I have always done it.

mnt//shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup/ you will fine a folder named this date and time thats your backup folder copy it into your mobile storage .... done the n copy or move it in to your pc like normaly file ...

In Android 4.2+ backups are placed in secure directory, inaccessible to other apps. Backups can be pulled with adb or by using the ROM Manager Backup Download Server.

Ehm, no. Running 4.4.2 and still the back-ups are located in the directories talked about above. Easily accessible by all file manager apps.
Never been any other way as well.

The backup was made through the CWM in recovery mode...
The MD5 checksum gave an error..I am trying to fix it so I need access to the files.
I can see the backup folders in recovery mode but cant find them with any file explorer nor did they show with adb pulling sdcard...
Any ideas??

I rooted my Moto Electrify M (which to my knowledge is the same as the Razr M from verizon) and I was attempting to put CM10 on it. I was following the directions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012093&page=57 and I accidentally deleted my internal storage (which contained my zip files GAPPS and CM10. I now have a rooted/unlocked bootloader phone with no operating system and am unsure how to install CM10.
I attempted using my external SD in another phone to transfer the files. Once I booted up TWRP in recovery mode and attempted to install I could not find said files. I'm a super noob at this whole root thing, please help
I'm not sure what the problem would be, maybe try going into Mount in twrp and unchecking the box for external sd before looking for the files.
to clarify, when I am in "install" there are folders named /sd /sdext etc but there is nothing in the folders. I have tried toggling between external and internal memory while using the install feature.
What version of twrp do you have? I put my rom zips on the root of the sd card, and when I switch twrp from internal to external, everything is right there.
Try using the file manager and see if you can find the files. If you can, but still can't get to them in the install page, use the file manager to move them over to internal storage and see if they appear there.
Do you know how to use fastboot? You could flash cwm recovery instead, and see if that shows the files.
I have version 2.2.2.1 of twrp.
I cannot find them in file manager. I am using a galaxy s2 transfer the files from my pc to the external card. Here are my options for where to store the zip files.

Interesting.. I would go into fastboot mode and use Matt's Utility to reset the phone to stock and get your OS back. You should already have the right drivers installed, so start up your phone while holding the down volume key to get into fastboot mode, load up the utility and select the first option.
Then I would flash a newer version of TWRP and see if your file browsing issues persist, I'm using twrp 2.5.0.0. Or you could also opt to flash the CWM recovery instead, and see if that fixes your problem. I have used both of these recoveries and never had an issue finding the zips on my external sd.
Another option would be to give Safestrap a try, it will ensure you don't lose your default OS again. Safestrap will let you set up a custom rom installation alongside your stock rom, keeping it perfectly intact.
Fixed it gents. I reformatted my sd card and stuck it in the android folder that was created. I then mounted the external through twrp and found it instantly. My assumption is the problem was user error related. I now have cm10 installed and have my gapps working, but I don't have bluetooth or 4g functionality. Should I make a new thread regarding these problems?
I haven't tried CM10, but honestly I would just try another one(maybe CM10.1 would fix your problems). I'm not big into fixing issues with my roms, I just find one that works and stick with it.
There might be a solution for your problems, and yeah another thread would be the way to go to get more visibility on it, but personally I would just go for Carbon or AOKP or SlimROM, or one of the other options. I have tried out the three I just mentioned, and have had 4G and bluetooth working with each(except Bluetooth on Carbon, I never tested it out but I assume it works)
I wish I could help you more but I just don't know enough to troubleshoot those kind of issues.
Hello, everyone, I came to this forum in hope for some advice with a problem I'm having. I'm sure I'll be sticking around as I just got a new S5 for Christmas, though. I apologize if these threads are redundant, but I've searched this forum and Google and haven't found a solution. First things first, I have a T-Mobile S5 running 4.4.2 and I rooted, installed CWM with Phil's Touch and created a backup. I saved the backup to my internal sdcard storage and copied a backup on my PC via usb. I've since deleted the backup saved to my internal storage to save space and would like to place it back in my phone to restore. I have not installed a custom ROM yet or re-partioned anything. The reason I'd like to restore is because my dumb-ass accidentally uninstalled the stock video/audio player while attempting to remove bloatware. I now can't listen to or view any videos sent via text without first downloading them and using an installed app' to play them. (Any tips on this would be nice.) Here's my main issue: when I attempted to place the backup back into my Clockworkmod/Backup/ folder, I'm prompted with a message saying I can't move this item. I've tried moving the file on my PC as well as my phone and had no success. I then tried using a root file manager to manually place the backup into the clockwork folder (it allowed me to put the backup in my phone's storage, but not clockwork's backup folder) and it ended up placing it the folder in clockwork, but not the backup folder. The folders now go: Clockworkmod/'My saved backup' - Backups folder/ empty. I can't move nor delete that file because it is write protected and I have no idea what to do from here. I need to restore my backup and definitely remove the copy that's write protected as it is taking a few gb's of storage. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I will likely give a small Paypal donation to the best response. (preferably tonight, if possible.) Thanks, guys. Let me know if you need any other details.
Update: I just tried installing Phil's Touch Aroma File Manager as I read that can delete/edit write-protected files and I'm not able to launch it in recovery. The folder and zip files were correctly placed, but it won't recognize the folder. I don't understand why my phone isn't recognizing anything in the Clockwork folder.

I suddenly have a very strange problem. My internal memory changed for some reason to read-only. The built-in file browser can't modify files anymore, nor can any app. With Root explorer (root access) I can still modify files. I could just use Root explorer, but some apps actually crash because they can't access the internal memory, so that's no solution.
Here's the situation:
I have the SM-N9005, on Android Kitkat (4.4.2). I was rooted with CF Auto Root. I wanted to try Magisk (not realising that you needed at least Android 5.0 for it). I uninstalled Busybox, Xposed, and then did a full unroot via the SU app. Then I installed TWRP recovery, tried installing Magisk. Of course that didn't work. So then, with Odin, I reinstalled CF Auto Root. After that I reactivated Busybox and Xposed. TWRP seemed to have disappeared, so installed that again as well. Everything was back to the way it was, except for that internal memory issue.
Does anyone has any idea how to fix this?
I made nandroid backup, so I could just revert to that backup but I'd prefer to find a solution and know why it happened.

It did not. And I've just found out that everything on the SD card can't be opened via the built in file explorer. I can create new folders and such, I just cannot open any files.
I says: "Not able access to external SD card. Try again if SD card is successfully mounted"
It's been a while since I used twrp but I recall being asked if I want to allow modifications to the file system.
Maybe it's time to flash back to stock using Odin and then restore your backup?
