hi there,
thanks for the great omniROM, i use it a while now and I was never so happy with my Galaxy Note N7000!
running the latest 4.4.2 (20140329) and have a SDcard in slot working properly.
I upgraded from stock 4.1.2 and it was an better experience than ever before, but there is just one thing that bothers me: USB Connection
when I connect an USBStick via OTG or via USBcable to PC, the only thing that happens is charging. this appeared some while ago still in StockROM after excessive use of USBSticks (all FAT) and keyboards. I was hoping the rooting and upgrading to OmniRom would 'reset' this behaviour, but it didn't tried differend tools, some with SU and nothing worked.
so my questions is: how can I get into the PhoneUtil-menu in omnirom or the UART/USB option?
after researching some more, I found this similar case and (possible?) solution. i'm keeping some hopes in this to get USBtransfer working with USBsticks again:
........ GT-7000 USB Data connection not working
My phone was not detected as MTP by the computer.
My phone didn't detect that it was attached to a PC.
On my PC --It didn't work.
Another PC --It didn't work.
Even another PC --It didn't work.
Mac --It didn't work.
Tried all sorts of things written on many websites. --It didn't work.
There was no MTP option in the status bar. It just always charged using the PC.
THEN... Finally 1 day, when I was looking at the back of my CPU (PC ) I saw my USB 3.0 Ports (the Blue ones). I had never connected anything to them. So,
Tried on a USB 3.0 Port --It WORKED!
My phone was immediately detected as MTP. The option showed up in the status bar. I could transfer files. But then- What about my USB 2.0 Ports?
Then I did the following :
Dialed *#7248# for the PhoneUtil options.
Under 'UART' tap MODEM. Under USB, PDA.
If this is already your setting, choose the another ones (PDA for UART and MODEM for USB) and then tap SAVE and RESET.
Again dial *#7248# for the PhoneUtil options.
Under 'UART' tap MODEM. Under USB, PDA. Finally tap SAVE and RESET.
Your phone will now be detected as MTP with all types of USB Ports now.
thanks and best regards

Hi All,
I have been facing problem of my galaxy 3 I5801 not getting connected through adb/mass storage etc. Following are the symptoms:
* Even if I set USB settings for "Ask on connection", on USB cable insertion, the popup does not come.
* While USB cable is plugged in, I am able to do any change in USB settings (means the USB status is not connected)
* Though debugging is enabled, ADB does not detect the device
* On host side, Device Manager, following drivers are listed.
- USB - Samsung Mobile USB device
- USB - Samsung USB Composite device
- Ports - Samsung Mobile Modem Diagnostic Serial Port
- Modems - Samsung Mobile Modem
- Modems - Samsung Mobile USB modem
* Kies recognizes as I5801, however, contacts etc. are not read from the device
MASTER CLEAR solves this and gets back the device to proper mode and everything works fine. Have done it twice successfully. Again after some time or after installing few apks, I am back to above state. I have installed following apps this time -
aCar, Advanced Task Manager, Facebook, Orkut, Ray Dialer, Skype, To Do List, Twitter and Maps (Brut).
I suspect Maps(Brut) installation, but I need this badly as it is the only turn-by-turn free navigation app that I can use in India and I like that very much. However, uninstalling this app did not recover back the USB.
Any suggestion on how to recover the USB connection by keeping all my apps installed?
Any particular app that is suspect here which I should avoid installing at all?
Any thoughts
Boot into recovery mode and select "wipe cache partition" .
Thanks. I saw few other tips which are in my trial list if the same thing happens next.
I.
1. Dial *#7284# to open PhoneUtil
2. In USB section, switch to Modem, and then switch back to PDA
3. Exit
II.
Boot into recovery mode and reboot again.
III.
Gsam101's suggestion (thanks for that) - Boot into recovery mode and select "wipe cache partition"
Need to see how to boot to recovery mode though. Little confused on the key combinations for Galaxy I5801.

Use Home+VolUp+VolDown+Power combo You can release all the buttons after initial logo. You'll see recovery screen with 'reboot to the system' or smth option, use it and you'll get your USB back.
Thanks......
I got into the same situation. Tried option 1 and USB is back
Thanks a lot guys.
Option 2 worked for me. Thank you.
Glad that it worked. But, option 1 worked for me all the time. Is it that option 1 did not work for you or you did not try that?
not recognised.. on pc..

Hi I'm getting the USB Not Recognized / Malfunctioned error messages in Win7 Ultimate. My phone used to connect to my PC flawlessly.
I'm using the stock USB cable that came with the phone, I've tried for weeks now to get it to sync. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling WMDC, edited the permissions for some registry key related to it, I've even tried syncing with bluetooth. It will not work on any Win7 PC (I haven't got the opportunity to try any other OS's). Also it's not just the syncing issues, it wont even show up as a storage device in Windows Explorer.
I've exhausted all options, I've tried 2 usb cables (one from a car charger and the original one), I've tried changing connection mode from Activesync (enhanced on and off), Disk Drive and even Internet Sharing.
The only way the USB has worked is in bootloader was today during bootloader and in magldr 1.12 (USB Flasher and USB Mass Storage), at first I flashed a newer Energy GTX ROM and then WP7.
Zune does not detect the phone nor does Phone Developer Tools.
Please help, I need to get it working again!!
Thankyou.
Hi,
EDIT * I have found a solution in that I can connect via WI fi so that's pretty good but if anyone can help me with the USB issue, it would still be appreciated. It seems that the Wi Fi connection is more limited as I am unable to view things in explorer *
hoping to get some help using my USB to connect to my PC. I've installed Kies but when I try to connect to my PC it just keeps on trying to connect but never actually does it.
I have looked for guidance on this but keep coming across the instructions to go into 'about phone > USB settings' etc etc. However, I do not have a USB settings in about phone. In fact, there is nothing at all about USB in About Phone. I do have a 'USB Utilities' in Wireless and Networks but all that gives me the option to do is 'Connect Storage to PC'. I have a memory card in my phone.
When I do connect to the USB cable, with Kies open, when windows 'finds new hardware' it keeps saying a problem occurred during installation.
Please can anyone help me out? All I want to do is basically drag and drop some files from my PC to my phone. Thanks very much for your help.
Settings --> Applications -- Development --> USB debugging.
Thanks for that!
It got me a little further. I also unmounted then remounted the SD card. However, when I try to connect via kies I now get the message:
Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies.
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to re click the USB settings on the phone before connecting to Kies now that it's installed the hardware on my PC?

Turn off USB-Debugging
Don't connect phone yet
Open Kies
Open the Tools menu -> Troubleshoot connection error
Go through the guide and let it reinstall the drivers.
Connect you phone, and let it connect
The default setting has the USB debugging tick greyed out. When I select it, it asks me if I want to allow debugging.
Do you mean that I shouldn't allow debugging and then connect (after reinstalling Kies) or should I allow it and connect? Sorry for my noobishness, Android is all completely new to me.
You should untick the USB-debugging - Then reinstall drivers NOT entire Kies
OK, it's unticked and I'm reinstalling the drivers via troubleshooting.
Do I need to unmount then remount the SD card before connecting my phone? Thanks for your help btw.
Shouldn't make a difference
Bah, I still have the same problem. It just says that there was a problem installing the hardware when I plugged in the phone.
After reinstalling the drivers, i shut down Kies then reopened it. I then plugged in the USB and then plugged the USB into my phone.
When I first installed Kies yesterday, Microsoft Active Sync kept on trying to activate and ask for a CD. It kept on holding up Kies. In the end I uninstalled Active Sync. Also, I still have Samsung PC Studio on my PC from when I had a Samsung a few years ago. It was one of those old slider phones, not a smart phone. Could that be part of the problem? I was hoping to keep it because it's proved to have the best media player I've ever had.
I just don't know what I'm doing wrong here.
Try without restarting Kies.
What part of the drivers aren't installed? (Check device manager)
In Device Manager, under Portable Devices there's something called Android MTP that has an exclamation mark next to it. It says it's not configured correctly and that 'No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device'. I'll reinstall the Kies drivers now.
Thanks for this help mljjlm
P.S. Now that I've unplugged the phone, the MTP thing isn't showing in the device manager list anymore.

Of course, it's a part of the phone, and it should not be plugged in because they would have to force a reboot when reinstalling drivers (which might sort your problem btw)
Reinstalled the Kies Drivers and then plugged in my phone but got the same problem. It says a problem occurred. Same device now has a problem in device manager. Maybe I should just uninstall everything and restart? Should I uninstall the old PC studio too?
Just try the reboot without uninstalling anything and then plug the phone in when your pc has booted
Argh! Still didn't work! I think there must be a problem with my PC, well, I'll try doing full uninstalls and reinstall it all. I have to go now as well so I'll have to try again tomorrow.
Thanks very much for your patience mljjlm. It has been greatly appreciated
Are you trying to just transfer files back and forth? If so... forget using Kies.
(I don't have a micro-USB cable with me currently, so this is all from memory)
Just remove the drivers from your device manager so it's like your machine has never seen your phone before. Then on your phone enable usb-debugging.
When you then plug in your phone, you should get a usb icon up top on your phone's display... pull the window-shade down and click on the USB connection button. You should get a fullscreen window on your phone that says something like USB Connection with the friendly android waiving.
Now your PC should see your phone as a standard USB mass storage device.
try plugging the usb cable in another usb port on your computer and than try again.

You're using Kies, that's what you're doing wrong. You said in your very first post you wanted to be able to drag and drop some files from your PC to your phone, so use USB debugging (say yes when it asks you) and Windows Explorer.
If you are using a custom rom like Checkrom Revolution you will need to install the kies support from kitchen pro.
Also are you using the cable that came with your phone?
I have found a few microUSB cables that will allow charge and wont allow data transfer like the new ones for nokia devices and some blackberrys.
It worked! The USB debugging thing!
Thanks to everyone who helped me out. The forum said I was limited to 5 thanks per day so if you didn't get one of the thanks I apologise. Thanks very much!
Hi guys...
Yesterday my new PH-1 arrived and today I wanted to use ADB with the app "custom navigation bar". My problem is: i can`t get it to work... I´ve used adb several times with different phones, but with the PH-1 it can´t connect with my Windows 10 computer. Is it possible that I can´t get it to work because Ì´m using a different USB-C cable (took 3 different from Xiaomi another manufacturer)?
How do get it to work? Everytime I connect the phone with the computer, I get the message USB debugging is on and I use MTP to work, but the phone doesn`t show the RSA key fingerprint. Any suggestions?

Mines wouldn't connect using the usbc cable it came with I had to use a regular usb to usbc cable for it to work
See your device manager. To see if you are seeing "Mata". You have to download the google usb driver and update it from there
I have S8 from my previous computer but i need to re install the driver again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbAq6d2Du0U
You can also try this tuturial hope that it is working for you.
Try this > Download and install the essential usb driver > go to device manager and update the driver. Choose the option where you can change the source and select the driver in the list > go to the Essential Folder in Program Files and choose the file named "essentialadb.inf" for your pc. That should work
It's and old thread but if there is someone new to this...
My essential wouldnt work with the previous ADB i had installed that had worked fine with all my other devices.
I installed https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 and worked just fine. Make sure your device isnt connected as anything other than charging. The previous ADB i was using didnt acknowledge my device but on first try with Minimal i was prompted on my phone right away
I had the same problem when attempting to flash my ph-1, when trying to use the cable that came with the device. I used a standard USB-A to USB-C cable and everything worked just fine. I noticed on the 8.1 update notes for side loading that the team indicates that the cable that comes with the phone is "Primarily" designed for charging and not data transfer. So I'm guessing that it is of lower quality and doesn't handle the transfer speeds.

Hold either volume button while connecting cable from phone to pc, it will detect automatically. It may work.
I'm running VNS-L31C16B125, EMUI 4.1.3, Android 6 and trying to connect to my Mac (10.11.6)
Since the latest Huawei firmware upgrade (which I installed last week) the Android File Transfer dialog is not opening when I connect my phone to my Mac via USB. The phone charges when connected to the Mac by USB, but the transfer options do not open on connection and the Mac tells me no phone is plugged in. I had no issues previously.
Things I've tried:
- Changed the USB cable (using the one that came with my phone) - no luck
- Checked 2x different cables with another Android phone - both worked 100% with the other phone (Samsung)
- Tried different USB ports - both work fine with the other phone I'm testing, but not with my Huawei
- After updating my phone I noticed that Dev Mode was disabled - I reactivated Dev Mode by tapping the build number, turned on USB debugging, selected USB config and selected MTP, restarted phone and computer - no luck
I can't find any other options or suggestions online. Hoping you guys can help.
