My 4G keeps switching to 3G? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This problem happened on my note 2 before when I would use it. When I would use my note 2 I would just go to my phone and dial *#*#4636#*#* and fix it. Now this does not. Does anyone know of a way to stop this from happening?

I think what you're looking for is disabling Fast Dormancy, but be careful since it's supposed to match the setting with the cell tower. With Verizon, they have the setting on, so you want your Fast Dormancy to remain on
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, that's the best way I ever understood it in a nutshell

Love my epic, hate my sprint.

So I can't bare to be without my Epic every waking second of the day. sue me. My problem is I'm moving out of the country and am keeping my phone. I want to basically use it as a wifi enabled android powered mp3 player. Problem is I'm worried it will constantly be searching for a signal. I've removed my msid and phone number from my ##msl# dialer code, but the phone still searches for a signal killing the battery life (I've seen the difference in the battery menu between no signal and airplane mode). I would leave it in airplane mode and be happy except that you don't get bluetooth while in airplane mode. is there a way I can just get the cell radio out of the os since I'm not going to need it anymore, and still keep my bluetooth, wifi, and gps functionality?
Thx in advance for any advice

Did you check out the ##3282# menu? Might be something useful in there

You can disable just the cellular radio using Tasker... this will still allow you to use wifi, bluetooth, gps, etc...
##debug# is an interesting dialer.code as well

I don't have Tasker anymore but I believe you just create a widget with the action of Phone > Radio > Off or something to that effect.
Then when you click the widget it will simply put an X over the signal bars instead of that annoying airplane, still allowing you to use all the secondary radios.

Can I ask a question here? I live in Phoenix, Arizona and I don't get any 4G. Does anybody else have this problem? Like, come on Sprint. I'm in the capitol of the Grand Canyon State.

Nexus 4 connection

Hey guys, I was just wondering if someone could help me. I've got my Nexus 4 on EE UK. My signal bars stay blue for about an hour or so meaning that its connected to the Google servers. But then they go grey and all my Facebook notifications, gmail and talk don't come through. Here's the odd part.....if I put the handset in air plane mode and turn it back on it reconnects! Anybody got any ideas????

I have the same problem, with wi-fi or mobile connection. Can't seem to find a solution. However, sometimes it just magically activates itself again and I get a load of missed messages/e-mail etc.

Yup, exactly the same. Not so much with WiFi tho. I did read that if you didn't sign in with your gmail account on first boot then u need to reset your entire handset and sign in again from the very start using the gmail account. Some say it works others say it doesn't.

I had the same problem what worked for me was remaking the APN. I was using the default APN and it was giving me problems but after making my own with the same stuff it fixed it.

Well, it's also related to wifi, so I don't know it that'll fix it. But I added my APN myself, just to make sure. Thanks.

Still the same. Loses connections in deep sleep & I get grey bars that switch to blue when I activate the device.
Surely there's a fix for it. Must b. Wonder if manual APN settings would fix it.

Similar problem here - Am on T-mobile UK but the carrier hasn't changed to EE like it had on my previous phone (anybody else like this?)
But yeah, have no issues over wifi but occasionally mobile data stops working and the bars go grey; when activating data connection it sometimes takes quite a while for them to turn blue.
Anybody managed to rectify the issue with APN settings?

Verizon Caller Name ID App

Is anyone else not able to get this app to load?
I have the $2.99 per month service enabled and was working on my Note 3 earlier (granted it was an older app).
I just cannot get this app to load no matter what, it keeps spinning at the splash screen and never goes further (already tried clearing data/cache for the app many times).
Anyone else seeing the same issue?
How can i found it now ?
Well what do you know, all of the sudden it started working. I think Verizon turned on some service on the backend because I swear I've been at this all day yesterday.
App wouldn't work for 2 or 3 days then boom. It's on. Does anyone find that this service works good? I haven't gotten enough calls yet

I think it is bad app for Verizon. Coz..This app is the reason you get both WiFi and 4G icons on the notification bar.

Low Frequency Beep During Calls

Is anyone else having any issues with the speaker when they are making calls on there S5? Whenever I'm talking with someone on the phone every 4 or 5 seconds I hear a low frequency beep the lasts about 1.5-2 seconds and then it goes away... After another 4 or 5 seconds it does it again. I really hope it's a software issue as I don't want to send my new phone in for a repair already.

I will have to try contacting Samsung about the problem. I will let you know what they say. I doubt target would do a straight exchange on the device.

Try disabling CARRIER IQ or removing it if you are rooted and then check for the beep afterwards see if it's gone and let us know what your results.

Well if you are not rooted go into settings then backup and reset and then collect diagnostics and uncheck it and this theoretically turns it off, now if you are rooted you can install root explorer open it up make sure that you are mounted as rw then search the root directory for carrier iq and delete it this removes it from the device.

The first thing I did was disable carrier iq when I got my s5 and after seeing this post I made a call to check for the noise and I dont hear it so maybe the carrier iq thing is the ticket.

Sorry.. but what exactly do you mean by "disable carrier iq"? Cause I'm a real newbie when it comes to doing administrative stuff to your phone...
I also thought that it maybe could be worth Factory reseting your phone? But I've got a lot of settings and stuff that I don't want to do again.. but if it's really needed I'll do it.

I tried that. But I'm afraid it did not work.. The annoying sound is still active. But the weird thing is that sometimes and on some calls it's occures very often and being annoying as hell.. and then again it can be off for like another call that lasts 30min+.. I hope that it's the phones own speaker that's broken or something..
Haha I hope you're wrong.. I really hope it's related to carrier iq

Yeah. I tried all of them regular settings. Minutebeep, noise reduction etc.. The sound kept going. But I also noticed that when I connected my headphones and talked trough them that there was no annoying sound.. so I guess it's something with the phones own speaker.
But I put the phone on service today after 11 days of usage... lol. Hope they'll fix it!
I don't hear the issue when I'm using bluetooth in my car either. That being said I'm pretty sure it's a issue with the speaker in the phone. Time to swap it out for another device!

So Undergrad.. are you really swapping it in for another phone? They actually gave me that option.. but I kind of said no.. I just wanted my phone to work 100%.. maybe it was a stupid choice..

Target is ordering me a new device and hopefully it resolves the issue. It certainly appears that the issue is with the speaker.

HD Voice not working

Does anyone know how to check whether HD Voice is enabled on the handset. Im currently with 3 network in the UK who state that the device is HD Voice enabled. When i call my friend who's also on three (also has a S5) there is definately no HD Voice yet when we use our S3 it works everytime. Im wondering whether 3 have it turned off on their rom but aren't saying.
I tried the menu options which worked on the S4 to see if WB-AMR was enabled but it doesn't work on the S5. Any ideas?
I'm on 3 too and was wondering the same.... how do we enable it...when you make a call there's a little phone icon on the right....what's that?

Pretty sure there isn't an option and it will be enabled by default. You both need to be running on at least 3g to use it.

Im 99% of the time on H+ as well. Was on 4G the other day and still no HD Voice. The little phone icon allows you to enable extra in call volume that's all it's for.
Hopefully someone will figure out the service menu to check if it's enabled. It's annoying me

Bump, my girlfriends S5 doesn't pick up wideband audio calling and it's frustrating. Were on Rogers network in Canada. I'm on moto x and I get HD voice with iPhone 5 and nexus users, just not her Samsung S5.
