Rockchip RK3288 boxes? - Android Stick & Console RockChip based Computers

Does anyone knows, when are we going to see Rockchip RK3288 based Android boxes?
I just found one page rumoring about Minix Neo X9, but that's probably just speculation.

HDMI 2.0 is also a spec that is very welcome and as reported, it is included. BTW, everyone who wonders, 4K is useless if you do not have HDMI 2.0, you're limited to 24hz with 4K in HDMI 1.4b
the first boxes should come out around june-july, "as i read around".

Just a head up, the first wave of rk3288 comes with A12 processor, and second wave will be A17...we may as well wait for the A17. So careful when you purchase the new rk3288 device.

Where did you read that?
I heard that RK3288 had to write A12 during CES because there was an information embargo about the upcoming A17, but nothing mentions that the RK3288 will first come out with the A12.

Hi! If I can add, moreover you must care about the device having Hdmi 2.0 and/or INPUT over Hdmi. A good addon at this point should be an Input Spdif .... and you could have an audio/video processing device.

RK3288 support HDMI 2.0 and I think in some video they said the Mini PC stick and box would have HDMI 2.0. I'm sure that someone will use HDMI 2.0 I don't think there is price diference between 1.4 and 2.0.

Hello! I believe in this way, too, but we have seen other devices being announced with Hdmi 1.4 and Rk3288, price still not known, and they cannot handle that the first grade K4 video!

So is there any fresh info regarding rk3288 boxes?
I want to update my rk3188 box and my main questions are can they stream 4k video without problems and what is the power consumption?

That is truely awesome I Wonder if there are docking stations out that let you connect both å hdmi screen AND a mouse and keyboard?
I love this idea and it is clever of canonical to ride on the back of the success of Android.
But I'm not sure how I would use it. When I use my computer (which has oneric) I also want to able to use my phone separately.
Perhaps a better solution for me would be to have a standard Ubuntu install that gains phone powers when the phone is docked. It would make apps like airdroid obsolete.
I totally see how other people will have a use for this and I hope it's a huge success.
It's great news

If you have the dock w/ hdmi out, just use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse or a keyboard w/ built in trackpad. Then pair up bluetooth headphones in case you get a call so you don't lose your desktop. That'd be the easiest imo.

On Ubuntu we have this requirement:
HDMI: video out with secondary frame buffer device
The Note have this secundary buffer?
Because the HDMI is mirror mode by default.
Anyone with technical knowledge can do a test?
I searched and found this information from another phone:
Primary frame buffer:
/dev/graphics/fb0
Secundary:
/dev/graphics/fb1
Tnks all.
i was thrilled to see this, but would sure love to also occasionally run it while not docked (you know... like a laptop or tablet...). i realize they probably did this due to battery life concerns or something, but hey, why rule it out?
Is our note compatible with this? I do not see a HDMI out!

I suspect there probably is a secondary frame buffer given that when watching videos through MHL, the playback controls display on the phone screen but not the TV...
Is there a release schedule?

I've read of people powering it via a tv's usb socket but some televisions won't produce the power needed and then the 802 will lose power and need restarting.
Some tv's will tell you how much power can be provided to usb devices, my samsung does so in it's on screen manual. You might be able to find similar data for your tv.

Yes logitech 400 works great with the MK802! I've gotten Hulu, Netflix, Slingbox, Tversity, and Plex all working. Also have Droidmote with android cell phone E4GT working as well to play games or move, scroll, and click the mouse on the big screen. All ripped Blu-rays are streaming in perfect HD thru the otg usb port from a seagate goflex usb drive. Wifi and usb Ethernet playing blu-rays have very limited success (some do play from my PC). However, all dvds play on both wifi wireless and usb Ethernet input. Development on custom rom is under-way to enable both mic and camera input. Therefore, Screencast app should record all online video content. Making the MK802 a HTAPC recorder.
Its a kickstarter project and a little more expensive but for much better internals i think this is a great buy

I dont know where you got that they have the same hardware. If you look at the tec specs on both devices you will see that the Kickstarter project has a oem built cortex a9 processor over a generic a8. That's a big difference plus the gpu in the Kickstarter project is a Mali-400 and in the Chinese one it just uses some generic stuff.
Also the WiFi is faster in the Kickstarter one as well

The specs on kickstarter changed from 512 mb to 1 gb to compete with mk802. The 802 also uses a mali 400.
They both use cortex cpu's of same speed but one is a8 and one is a9 so no they are very similar except wifi isn't 802.11 n on one just is b/g which mist people have anyway.
The 802 is cheaper but you supply the controller, however both have same gpu and os, very similar cpu and same ram so neither one is notably more superior than the other.

No, USB from the TV works fine. BTW some USB on brands like Samsung may only be for maitenance and may not have the required 5 volts to power the device.
That kickstarter is not a newly produced item, it's just a new casing and 1gb ram upgrade to an existing chinese stick on the market, nothing special at all. It's really disappointing to see infinitec taking so much credit for renaming an existing product like they invented it, but hey, they're great marketers apparently. Also, some MK802s claim wifi N compliance, might be from the recently released rikomagic firmware for it or perhaps an update in design.
I myself plan on getting an oval elephant, I want linux more than android, and it has better power specs and safeties than the mk802.
i have mine powered by the USB from my TV.
works great. i can even set my tv with sleep function and it also turns the mk802 off.
This thing is really intresting.
Fount the same one for $59.99

Android Developers needed for Raspberry Pi!

What’s a Raspberry Pi?
The Raspberry Pi is a $35 credit-card sized computer that plugs into your TV and a keyboard. It’s a capable little PC which can be used for many of the things that your desktop PC does, like spreadsheets, word-processing and games. It also plays high-definition video. We want to see it being used by kids all over the world to learn programming.

What SoC are you using?
The SoC is a Broadcom BCM2835. This contains an ARM1176JZFS, with floating point, running at 700Mhz, and a Videocore 4 GPU. The GPU is capable of BluRay quality playback, using H.264 at 40MBits/s. It has a fast 3D core accessed using the supplied OpenGL ES2.0 and OpenVG libraries.
Development for Android is slow going with only a few talented people so far, but due to the uniqueness of this project it is well suited for the coder interested in challenging and rewarding projects. Come join them!

Not outdated. Simply not constructed to run Android. It's an educational system for people wanting to play around with GNU/Linux compatible hardware, not a cellular phone. Still, with enough lubrication, sure you can squeeze in Android, but it's not its purpose.

I tried it. It appears to run in emulator mode. It is very slow. It should be capable of running much faster considering the specs of some older devices which run ICS are running better.
I haven't had time to play with Android on this device much but it runs Linux well.

CTRLR holding a 7" tablet

Hi guys,
Been wanting to do this for a long time
Here it is... what a bad boy!!
The tablet is a cheapish chinese mali400 2GBram with hdmi out (hyundai T7s) , I bough instead of the ouya, sooo glad I did to, definitely getting my monies worth!
I got the same apps/emulators setup on here as the MOJO.... obviously it doesn't play as nice, but does okay
Been playing N64, MK4 is smooth, GE 007 and Dest. Durby both playable but laggy (9-30ps).
It's kinda heavy holding it, close to 1kilo as a guess.
It's not to bad if upright and balanced, but when angeled the weight of the tablet is noticeable.
Overall, feels comfortable with the controller, like in front of the TV
It's sturdy but there's a tiny bit of play at the bottom, even with the screw on tight... it's really testing the CTRLR's build quality here! lol
This is da shiz! Very cool,
I did photos as I put it together.. it's just fine rope and a small L bracket with tape wraped around it.
I'll blog it one day soonish..

Can you disable the screen while on MHL? I hear there's performance issues with even mirroring to mini/micro HDMI?
But yeah that will work.
The retail version controller will be BT2 and BT4 so will work on "any" android/PC device and includes the travel clip

It's shocking that Measy A2W Chromecast style dongle. Literally peanuts.
I have two of the Measy style dongles. Worthless IMHO.
Ok. so if you ONLY want to stream from your phone then it's great. and for about $20 it is a good value.
I just received one of the Android TV boxes with the Amlogic S802 processors, M8. while it's just over $100, it's far more useful. Basically turns your tv into an android phone minus the touch screen. XBMC plays most videos including DTS audio and also streams cable tv in HD from my silicon dust HDhomerun prime.
Enjoy.

Indeed, the larger boxes (Mini PCs) are worth the extra bucks. The little Chromecast style Ezcast M2 streaming dongles are handy for 20/30 bucks. But the larger units where its at.
Saying that there are two new units recently announced. RK3288 based. Ugoos UM3 dongle, and the mini PC TV box style is the Ugoos UT3.

Saying that there are two new units recently announced. RK3288 based. Ugoos UM3 dongle, and the mini PC TV box style is the Ugoos UT3.
Supporting 2K and 4K video playback and recording.

I think i may wait for the Ugoos Ut3 as it has RK3288 CPU.
I have the Mk809iv KitKat TV stick and it works fine.

It's a Newsletter they send out. Sometimes it's Mini PC, sometimes tablets, phones and so on. I find it handy for keeping up with what's released and available. I just entered my email to sign up and then after that you get one around once or twice a week. Normally has around 18 devices.
