Wife has a GT-I9505G Google Edition phone we purchased from Google Play back in October. Bone stock (4.4.2, Baseband: I9505GUEUCML4, Build: KOTH49H.S001.131204), no root, nothing special installed.
When she goes to increase the volume, we hear 2 "volume increase" noises. They're very close together and very fast. This _only_ happens when she increases the volume. When you hit the VOL DOWN key, it plays the single, standard sound. This is annoying. Has anyone else seen this??
Also, when she has her headphones on (pair of Scoche with inline remote and mic, built for iPhones) and she adjusts the volume up or down, you can hear the volume adjust sounds in the headphones, but also from the phone itself. The same goes for when a call comes in, or Hangout. The Notification sound is played on the phone and headphones. She doesn't want that behavior. If the headphones are plugged in, the notification should only go over the headphones. (On further research, this "feature" appears to be deliberate. Some have tried SoundAbout to fix this behavior).
IPhone head sets are not compatible with android phones. The configuration of the pins are different.

The headphones work as headphones and the mic also works during phone conversations. So that statement isn't fully true. I know the internals of the remote are different which is why "Made for iPhone" headphones don't 100% work on Android devices. The middle button of the 3 can do play/pause. The Vol Up/Down buttons do not work. This is all due to the internals of the remote, and not the "pins" on the headphones. There is a way to modify "Made for iPhone" headphones to work with Android.
Still, it seems the issue about Notification Sounds being played through the headphones _and_ phone speaker isn't really an issue. It's designed to function in that manner. Many people don't like this design (and I can see a case for and against it) so there are apps on the Play Store to "fix" it. We're using SoundAbout now and it did fix that issue.
The other issue still remains, and that's the problem where you hit VOL UP and most times, you'll get a double VOL UP sound. VOL DOWN gives the standard one sound, but VOL UP, gives 2 really fast. That's annoying.
Last night, we discovered that certain apps (when running in the background) will only display the MEDIA VOLUME when you hit the VOL UP/DOWN buttons. Specifically, when we had Bejeweled Blitz running in the background, the MEDIA VOLUME would be the only option for volume control. When we closed BB, it took several seconds for Android to give us the phone volume instead of media volume. I'm thinking the only solution will be to unlock her phone, and install root, then several XPosed modules to give her more functionality.

I have a pair of Sony headphones that have a controller designed to work with an iPhone/iPod. The middle (play/pause/forward/backward/end call button) work just like the original Nexus one headset, but the volume controls don't work. Is there a possibility of making an app, modified Music.apk or driver that would enable this volume control, or does one already exist? I've searched these forums, Google's forums and some other forums and found nothing.
There's an app called RemoteVol that allows you to adjust volume by long pressing on the previous track and next track buttons. It was designed for the default N1 headset, though I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with third party headsets.
I'm guessing that HTC didn't think to include volume controls in the headset design, perhaps because there's already the volume rocker on the side of the phone.

I tried that, the download link was dead and it wasn't on the market.

works well with my htc headset
I'd like to point out that the Nexus One headphones don't control volume.
Continuing on, as you said, the volume buttons do nothing (on other pair remotes I have)
Remote Vol doesn't work in this case- I'm using Sony headphones using the Apple button control design.
I guess your only option then is to use the stock headset that came with the phone, or just use the volume rocker.
If you or someone you know is handy with a soldering iron, you can perform a simple mod to the stock headset so that you can plug in third party headphones. You just have to cut off the stock ear buds above the remote, then solder the wires into a 3.5mm audio jack.
I am just using the default Samsung music app, so maybe a simple player switch will suffice...
I am coming from a iPhone 5. One thing the iPhone does very well is play music. There are a copy of issues with my S4 in this regard that are driving me crazy, I am hoping you guys can help me resolve them:
1. Volume rocker on headphones does not control music volume. As far as I can tell the volume rocker just doesnt do anything at all. Is there a way to make this control music / voice levels? Very annoying having to fish for the phone to actually move the volume rocker.
2. Previous doesnt work. On the iPhone you can triple click the button on the headset to either restart the current song or go back to the previous song that was playing before. I used this quite often as i sometimes like to Binge on a particular soundtrack. This does not seem to work currently, triple pressing the button simply goes to the next song (double tap) and then pauses (single tap).
Loving the S4 so far, I definitely hope the above is something that is possible to fix though. Thanks a lot guys!
Try google play music? The volume thing worked on my s3 however I've yet to test ion s4... Also i use poweramp
sgh-i747(d2att)(sgs3) on latest cm10.1 or ultimatum
my headphones work on the s4 so far... volume and pause/skip tracks also works. single tap button to pause, double tap to skip etc. maybe u got a faulty headset?
Yeah sounds like a faulty headset...mine works

Or push it further in maybe? It seems to be hard at first to press in the headphone all the way... loosen up over time
Questions go in Q&A

I am having an issue with Bluetooth, crackling, and the volume controls not working. It happened before I unlocked and rooted and thought it might be an area I was going through. However, today I was driving down the road and received a business call. The caller's voice kept crackling and popping like crazy. It would start, stop then start again. I will have to say it was driving me nuts and really hurt my ears. My G2 had no issues like this. This is going through my stereo in my truck.
The phone was sitting in a generic holder attached through a suction cup on my windshield. I tried to turn the volume down on the phone and nothing happened. I tried turning it up and nothing happened. It seems there is no control with the volume rockers. Has anyone else had this issue? I really want this phone to work out as I ordered all my phone and accessories through Amazon at the same time. This will be a real deal breaker for me if it can't be fixed as I use Bluetooth exclusively when I am on the road.
Update: I turned the bluetooth off and back on then went for a ride and talked with my wife. It only popped and cracked 1 time. The volume control still would not work. I had to do all the controlling through my stereo. The volume control works when playing music through my Bose Soundlink but not when connected in my vehicle. That seems rather strange.
Volume control doesn't work with all Bluetooth devices from what ive discovered. I have not had issues with popping to my beats Bluetooth headphones and volume control works

I can't say if I ever had to reach for my phones volume control on my lg, however I never had the popping I am getting with this phone. The X seems to have some temperamental issues. I'm just trying to figure out if these issues are correctable with updates or if they are flaws that can't be fixed. I want to make sure I don't have a defective device. I really like many facets of the phone.

I had a 40 minute phone call this morning on Bluetooth today. The other person's voice kept changing volumes. It was like the phone was trying to adjust the volume constantly. I had a little popping when the volume would go to loud but not at lower volumes. Is there anyway to set Bluetooth volumes at one level and leave it? I am rooted so I can modify a file if needed.

Hey, first off to make things more clear here are some facts:
Phone: Nexus 6P
Earphones: Betron DC950 Earphones
Music App: Spotify
Shed Location: Bottom of Garden
Bit of a weird one here...
I bought the earphones from amazon with the intentions of them being a 'daily driver' if you will.
However; when I use them when playing my drums (which is my shed) they constantly turn the volume down.
This does not happen straight away though, it ranges from 5-10 minutes (after starting a song).
When it does happen though, the volume is turned down in increments.
When I press volume up the volume does go up.... But then turns straight back down after.
This is the only happens in my shed...
And i've used another pair of earphone + headphones which Do not have this problem.
Any ideas?
I have this exact same problem with a pair of headphones which I got from ExtremeGuard.
Happened everywhere to me though..
I find it completely bizarre that it only happens in 1 location, which means there's got to be some electromagnetic interference or something. The earphones have volume toggle and play/pause button on them, maybe it could be that.
My earphones only have a mic, and no volume toggles though.
Got the exact same issue. This happens for me when there's noise around the mic. I tried shaking the mic and could clearly see the volume indicator showing that the volume drops in increments.
Did you find any kind of solution?
I have Bose QuietComfort 25 wired headphones. Anyone else use them and have problems?
1. As soon as I plug them in to the phone and adapter, the ring volume immediately goes to vibrate.
2. The in-line microphone is not working.
3. The in-line buttons seem to provide random results on the phone, usually any button just ends up lowering the media volume.
4. After plugging in the head phones, the power button no longer turns off the screen until i press volume up and volume down on the phone.... ?????
Audio through headphones works just fine though.
Not tried them with this phone myself. Sounds like a pinout issue, like you would need a CTIA/ OMTP adaptor. Although after trying to look to see which it is, I'm seeing lots of places selling an official BOSE android compatible cable. So I guess getting a new cable, while not great, is your best option.
Try shutting down, plugging in the headphones and restarting.
