iPhone headset volume control - Nexus One General

I have a pair of Sony headphones that have a controller designed to work with an iPhone/iPod. The middle (play/pause/forward/backward/end call button) work just like the original Nexus one headset, but the volume controls don't work. Is there a possibility of making an app, modified Music.apk or driver that would enable this volume control, or does one already exist? I've searched these forums, Google's forums and some other forums and found nothing.

There's an app called RemoteVol that allows you to adjust volume by long pressing on the previous track and next track buttons. It was designed for the default N1 headset, though I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with third party headsets.
I'm guessing that HTC didn't think to include volume controls in the headset design, perhaps because there's already the volume rocker on the side of the phone.

I tried that, the download link was dead and it wasn't on the market.

works well with my htc headset

I'd like to point out that the Nexus One headphones don't control volume.
Continuing on, as you said, the volume buttons do nothing (on other pair remotes I have)

Remote Vol doesn't work in this case- I'm using Sony headphones using the Apple button control design.

I guess your only option then is to use the stock headset that came with the phone, or just use the volume rocker.
If you or someone you know is handy with a soldering iron, you can perform a simple mod to the stock headset so that you can plug in third party headphones. You just have to cut off the stock ear buds above the remote, then solder the wires into a 3.5mm audio jack.

Volume Control on Original Earphones

Hi,
Are you supposed to be able to control the volume from the earphones on the HTC Touch HD? I have my headphones plugged in and when playing music every time I press the button on the earphones it does nothing, or if I press and hold the button it tries to voice dial. Although the button seems to toggle I cant see anyway of adjusting the volume.
You cant. You can use a bluetooth A2DP headset which usually has its own volume control (not remote control for the winmo "mixer") but then you'll sadly get worse sound quality

Compatible Headphones

Does anyone know if you can use headphones made for the iPhone with a Focus? The headphones that come with it are actually decent, but I'd like to upgrade and every set of headphones with an inline mic are made for iPhones. All I really need working is the microphone and volume control; the extra pause button isn't a big deal.
I just tried a Apple volume-enabled set of headphones and the play/pause/call button worked but not the volume control.
The mic and headphones work great though.
The headphones that come with the Focus have volume control on them, so maybe other non-Apple branded headphones would work with volume control.
Thanks for checking that. I guess it's not so bad to have the volume not working since the buttons on the device work with the screen off.
I picked up some cheap iFrogz Luxe and the work fine.
No volume control but the mic and pause worked OK.

I also picked up a set of Etymotic MC3's and they didn't work worth a damn.

[Q] 9505G Volume Issues

Wife has a GT-I9505G Google Edition phone we purchased from Google Play back in October. Bone stock (4.4.2, Baseband: I9505GUEUCML4, Build: KOTH49H.S001.131204), no root, nothing special installed.
When she goes to increase the volume, we hear 2 "volume increase" noises. They're very close together and very fast. This _only_ happens when she increases the volume. When you hit the VOL DOWN key, it plays the single, standard sound. This is annoying. Has anyone else seen this??
Also, when she has her headphones on (pair of Scoche with inline remote and mic, built for iPhones) and she adjusts the volume up or down, you can hear the volume adjust sounds in the headphones, but also from the phone itself. The same goes for when a call comes in, or Hangout. The Notification sound is played on the phone and headphones. She doesn't want that behavior. If the headphones are plugged in, the notification should only go over the headphones. (On further research, this "feature" appears to be deliberate. Some have tried SoundAbout to fix this behavior).
IPhone head sets are not compatible with android phones. The configuration of the pins are different.

The headphones work as headphones and the mic also works during phone conversations. So that statement isn't fully true. I know the internals of the remote are different which is why "Made for iPhone" headphones don't 100% work on Android devices. The middle button of the 3 can do play/pause. The Vol Up/Down buttons do not work. This is all due to the internals of the remote, and not the "pins" on the headphones. There is a way to modify "Made for iPhone" headphones to work with Android.
Still, it seems the issue about Notification Sounds being played through the headphones _and_ phone speaker isn't really an issue. It's designed to function in that manner. Many people don't like this design (and I can see a case for and against it) so there are apps on the Play Store to "fix" it. We're using SoundAbout now and it did fix that issue.
The other issue still remains, and that's the problem where you hit VOL UP and most times, you'll get a double VOL UP sound. VOL DOWN gives the standard one sound, but VOL UP, gives 2 really fast. That's annoying.
Last night, we discovered that certain apps (when running in the background) will only display the MEDIA VOLUME when you hit the VOL UP/DOWN buttons. Specifically, when we had Bejeweled Blitz running in the background, the MEDIA VOLUME would be the only option for volume control. When we closed BB, it took several seconds for Android to give us the phone volume instead of media volume. I'm thinking the only solution will be to unlock her phone, and install root, then several XPosed modules to give her more functionality.

[Q] CarbonRom Headset control

Sorry, there is no dedicate forum for Carbon so I figured that this would be close enough.
I have a pair of 3 button earbuds that are meant for android. The problem is, all the buttons just get treated as play/pause. Is there something I can change to make the volume buttons on the headset actually control the volume?
I've already tried the headset apps on the play store, and they don't work

Can the wired headphone remote advance audio track?

I like to listen to audible.com books with my phone. On my HTC M8, I could use the 3 botton headphone remote to pause playback, or advance or jump back using the buttons on the headphone remote.
On some other phones, the 2nd and 3rd buttons either do nothing, or can only be used to adjust volume.
Has anybody used the included wired headphone remote, or another one, to skip forward or back on the ZTE Axon 7?
I do not use Audible, but the included headphone remote only has volume up and down, with a middle button that pauses. If your app has settings that let you customize the remote buttons just for that app, you may be able to reassign these. Otherwise, it doesn't seem like it.

Thanks, I really appreciate the response. Looks like I'll be getting my phone on Monday from B&H and I'll begin to find out.
