According the newest version of Z2 white paper, I found out that has removed the "IPS" word......omg,.. how could Sony do that....
actually Z2 Tablet also removed the "IPS" word....
Haha...piece of sh** - for me who has Z1..
16Gb internal memory, only 3Gb RAM and now without IPS screen...
Really couldn't find one reason why should I sell Z1 and buy this, "Z1 plus"

Their TRILUMINOS tech actually uses in-plane switching, so they are IPS.

I have the First Version of the file from February which also doesn't contain the word IPS anywhere, but still it is confirmed that Z2 will be using an IPS TFT panel for sure. Please check the display comparison videos on YouTube with the new HTC ONE (M8) which uses SLCD3 display and Z2 fairs much better in color reproduction and deep blacks almost to the level of AMOLED
Lol, this stupid thread should be deleted. :good:

You discovered something in the whitepaper and made unsubstanciated claims about the Z2's screen, that does NOT make it the truth
It was on the specification sheets at MCW 2014 and the Sony's representatives spoke about it too & it was mentioned in Sony's MCW press event, it's on the spec sheet on Sony's website and their Stores........

Well basically , 99% of all the Specification websites I use, all the reviews, previews, hands on's and unboxing's have all stated it and the other 1% just did not metion it at all.
NOT 1 single website I use have stated that the Xperia's Z2 screen is NOT an IPS display....go figure..
One example is this video which might make you happy....I hope,
it's Erica Griffin one of the most well informed, qualified and critical reviewers on the planet stating that the Z2 has an IPS display at 1:19 , check it out:-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dviYRetmjTQ
I have had various htc's and samsung's and always liked the xda forums very much, lots of smart helpfull people working together to develop and make the device better. Now, after a year with my xperia z i still can't get my head around the fact that the sony forums are full of morons and cry babies...

Yea very true, I also like her cause she is very non-biased reviewer so you can actually depend on what she tells.
and we also saw on phonearena that the display is very good in colours and all, so I don't think that it's just the normal TFT panel they previously used. Let's see after this month once people get it in their hands and more reviews will be out in the web.
Just because the Whitepapers don't mention IPS doesn't mean the screen isn't IPS.
Also, Triluminous Technology has nothing to do with whether a screen is IPS or not.

To me that looks like the Xperia ION has it's brightness and color saturation cranked all the way up. While some people think this looks better, it hasn't have to be better though. In my opinion, the Xperia Z lacks a bit of color calibration, but IMHO this could be resolved with a simple calibration app.
I really love Sony, but Sony can only improve if I show them my love.
My Xperia Z looks like the one on the right so I'm stumped lol

It does look like a gamma calibration issue.
does android let you set the gamma settings via command line like on Linux?
eg. xgamma -gamma 1.000
Using linux as an example, it looks like the Z is set to 1.200 gamma, where .900 would suit most people's needs better.
Check it.
lowered gamma to .75

A matter of preference.. I reckon the Z has more natural colours. The Ion has everything too high for my taste.. Ever seen Samsung TV's on factory settings? Same thing. Colours boosted beyond natural. But again, some prefer it that way.. I like the Z's colour better om these pics, though the ion pops more out so to speak.

This is not some pointless thread shooting Sony. Admittance is the first step to recovery. If there's a gamma tuning problem, Sony ought to know and fix the problem. And if it's a quality problem, Sony must know it can't repeat the mistake again. Most of us here love Sony. We want Sony have its fullest potential to destroy Samsung and Apple. If everybody keeps sweeping this issue under the carpet, this screen issue is going to come back in future Sony phones.
That's just my thoughts. Critics can destroy me now.

Agreed, apart from the destruction bit
All my complaints over the Z are not just *****ing about the screen and the camera. I believe they are two issues which can be sorted out by software and Sony should admit it and fix it. The screen will always have poor viewing angles, but please sort out the gamma/colours.
My phone is uk and my screen looks nothing like that. Mine is great

I've just loaded both wallpapers on to the lockscreen on my UK sim-free Z and it really does look nothing like yours. The colours are more vivid on my device although not as saturated as on your Ion, which has it's contrast too high IMO - the colours are more realistic on my Z (eg. the colour of the sky looks like sky whereas it's too much on your Ion).
I have to turn my Z to an extreme angle to make it look like yours.
It is good to see others are recognizing this screen is barely adequate.
I was starting to get tired of being called a troll for simply making accurate and factual statements.
i recieved my xperia z yesterday and to be honest was very fearful with reading all these reviews but i really have no issue with my phone the screen is nothing short of great friend of mine who uses iphone 5 even made comment on the clarity of the screen.
I understand why people are making comments on viewing angles but to be honest i cant understand how anyone with half a brain would use their phone on an angle lol i mean come on guys whats going on. watching movies on screen so small i really dont know why anyone would do that i cant even watch a movie on those old 68cm screen tvs anything under 42 inches and your just wasting your viewing pleasure, the screen is amazing so all of you who are holding back your missing out

If the camera spec is real then I'd think: Why would they go back to an older sensor?? Unless the 13.1mpx sensor that's in our XZ isn't good enough...

If it's using an Exmor RS sensor, then that's not old at all but the absolute latest and greatest from Sony. It's just that it'll use an 8MP version vs. the 13MP version on the Z and ZL.

Maybe among the phones released last year only: Nexus 4, LG Optimus G and HTC Butterfly (and their variants) have better specs (SoC) than Xperia SP.
BTW, according to the white paper, SP uses Corning Gorilla glass without a shater-proof sheet..
And Xperia L seems to use glass made by SCHOTT, again no mention of a shatter-proof sheet.
Does this mean no more pre-installed shatter-proof sheets by Sony Mobile?

Actually SP uses Shatter proof sheet on Corning Gorilla glass. As mentioned in the link below

Great mid-range phone.
Seems like a great mid-range phone to me. Of course everything seem better in their adds but I was honestly positively surprised when I saw it.
Having doubts though about the functionality an smoothness of the phone. I've been using Sony XPERIA S and with a 1.5 GHZ Dual-Core processor and 1 GB of RAM it was quite laggy even when using their built-in APPS like Walkman. At times it would stutter and force close even when other APPS were closed. Since Sony got rid of Ericsson I've become a huge Sony fan especially with their latest release the XPERIA Z. Their designs are formidable in my opinion and I guess many people will agree with me. The translucent bar in the S and the SP is something notable, probably a battery drainer but non the less a nice add to create something different, elegant and "sexy".
I'm very pleased to see another, newer device of Sony with this translucent bar. It'd be a nice second phone to keep with me just in case something happens with my future XPERIA Z or HTC ONE!
YES, definitely not going to buy the S4, design disappoints me and am genuinely sick of Samsung using cheap materials. Specs? Thumbs up Samsung!

Thanks for sharing irimas. second leak of the same design. to me it looks to be z3. the design look fine to me but i'll have an opinion after seeing the whole device in higher quality pics, not these purposely blurred once for obvious reasons. with that said, my next device if probably z4, not this one, but it's nice to see the design as this should share more or less the same design with z4.
I love the sides and bottom design :

You have screenshots in OP where you can read it's still S800/801 - I really hope S805 will be available for Z3 - it's not good to have three-four devices with a same chipset (same/similar or old cpu but overclocked - to higher values, of course)

To be honest, I don't see a need to upgrade higher pixel for the camera. What's more important is the optimization of the camera in my humble opinion.
Also, as long as Sony continue naming its flagship Z3,Z4 and so on, then I believe it will continue the omnibalance design of the Z. Usually Sony introduce a new product name if it comes with a new design. Then again, its just an opinion of mine.. I could be wrong.
Regarding the S801, if Sony were to use it on Z3 then Z3 would be the last flagship of the Z line. Since they will look to clear all their SoC stocks.
Personally, if Z3 is released similar to what the leaks are, then Z2 would probably the best option to stay with.
Looks the same...
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z2.
is it me, or are these phones getting too damn big? the Z3 is the size of a NOTE 3! come on Sony, that's nuts. do what you want with the Ultra for a phablet, but please, keep your phones at a reasonable size. the Z2/GS5/M8 are already a bit beyond what i think is "too big" (perfect size would probably be a GS4).
why not:
1. make the bezels and top and bottom smaller -- instead of bigger!
2. increase earpiece/speaker volume from the Z2
3. put a next-gen CPU/GPU combo in it, but maintain standard HD resolution. (forget about pointlessly chasing 2K pixels on a bloody handset like dumb LG/Samsung are trying to do)
4. use Gorilla Glass 3 (or 4, if that exists by the time of release)
5. optimize the camera software/hardware so that 20MB photography isn't only manual
6. increase brightness of the screen for outdoor viewing
7. make 64GB and worldwide LTE bands standard issue
this would be perfect.
My Brother have xperia z2, and I bought a Z3. We did a comparison of the screen, and unexpectedly, we observed z2 has better viewing angles than the Z3. OH NOOOOOO!!!!!!
WHY SONY??????!!!!!
100% brightness on both devices
I've tried to cut down on brightness on Z3. Z3 has brighter screen than Z2. I reduced to 70%, but it meant nothing
When we look at angles from the top, bottom, left and right viewing angles are excellent on both devices. The only problem is when the screen looks around the corner
Z2

I think being IPS it should be wider angle view.

My Brother have xperia z2, and I bought a Z3. We did a comparison of the screen, and unexpectedly, we observed z2 has better viewing angles than the Z3. OH NOOOOOO!!!!!!
WHY SONY??????!!!!!

What a shame that you can't see the device in a prone position!
Yeah I don't get all the noise about viewing angles when the only person watching stuff on the phone is the one directly in front of it.
I love poor viewing angles, so people besides me on bus can't read mi chat.
See if you can see the screen blindfolded, if not, return de device.

In the Z3 review "Viewing Angles" chart you can add the Z2, which has an advantage over the Z3 in some areas, but its not that bad though. Overall I think its almost as good as my HTC Butterfly's display.
Why would you ever look at your phone at an off angle? I get this is an issue with a TV but a phone? People are really digging for problems at this point.

I have to disagree with you, unless it was meant to be sarcastic (although there are none of the standard signs of written sarcasm).

Fair enough. I believe the OP was just comparing between the viewing angle of the Z2 and Z3 at an ideal setting, and making a point that Z3 should not be any worse. When Sony makes the Z3, one would expect the same or better. Not worse. For me, the viewing angle is just fine on the Z3. But what bothers for some may be the fact that is proven to be worse than Z2, given it is an IPS panel afterall.
I was distraught when I read about this.
So, I got my friend who owns a Z2 and did a comparison. Yeah both of us agreed the Z3 screen colours reproduction are much better than Z2.
The trade off is some angles washes out more on Z3 but then heck, who uses their phone in those funny position LOL.
My God... No... This simply cannot be... I'm going to go throw my phone off a balcony now, as clearly, it is useless (just like this thread)
The Z3 has improved in more areas it than lost in the screen aspect compared to the Z2, so overall it is better. This happens with every company including Apple where contrast maybe slightly lower on a newer device etc. As long as it doesn't really impact you it does not matter, as there is a net gain with other improvements.

Confirm it for my Z3 Compact as well. Horrible! Sony, I can barely see the screen while holding it at an 45° angle only. And upside down, I can't see anything at all, just black! Was so upset with the phone that I dumped it in the pool. Guess what, even worse, found out there's a serious problem with the loudspeaker(s), too. When it gets into water (say down below 1m), yes, I can still see the screen coming up while receiving a call, but it's almost inaudible! Do you want me to stare at the screen all the time? Really, I'm so disappointed...
I partially agree and partially disagree. The viewing angles on the Z3 is fine, you are right, people are just digging for dirt.
I come from the Z1 so the Z3 is an amazing improvement.
Where I disagree with you is that viewing angles do matter.
It was an impossible task to get three friends to bunch up and watch a video clip on the Z1, the two in the wings saw almost nothing and they were only slightly off axis.
So it does matter when it comes to sharing media with groups.

The LG G2 and HTC Butterfly had awesome screens in all aspects and the Z3 tops both, so not much to worry about.
How can that be possible? Isn't the screen same? I mean both are IPS panels and same resolution and pixel density.

There are more factors that determine screen quality than just what type of panel it is and what the resolution and pixel density is.
In other words: you can have two IPS screens, of the same size, resolution and pixel density, even made by the same manufacturer, but for different devices and they will have a different colour gamut, different viewing angles and diffident contrast so look very different.

Ah that's what. But since the Z3 came after the Z2, shouldn't the Z3 have a similar or better screen than the Z2 rather than having a worse one?
Hi guys...
@niaboc79 point me to this web page
Apparently, this should be next Sony's big thing...
If you ask me, I don't like new look but we'll see final design once Sony announce this new beast.
And yeah...even many claimed it'll have S810, it'll probably be S805 with 4GB of ram.

Don't get it...?
What do you wanna say?
I wouldent see why not the device would be so powerful, they have had some tough market recently and although sony isnt one to faulter in quality (exept Z2 hiccip)
Im hoping to come across a Z4 but my college budget says hell never.
That is the image of a Z3...
http://www.androidpit.com/sony-xperia-z4-release-date-news-specs-features
here is the features of the upcoming z4. I gonna buy this!!!
Nice but i hope sony will avoid onscreen buttons or at leastgive us an option just like oneplus one..
That pic just looks like a Z2 it seems though
Or perhaps something edited and also made to look poor quality
BTW - that digitiser isn't from Z4.
That's a fake.
I wonder about Z4, Sony need to have a 64bit cpu just for the name of it
Customers either go for lies or big titles, Sony trys not to lie but they also fail to provide at times
Z4 would need a 805 or above to arouse any eyes
Maybe not even that, perhaps lolipop, 64bit, QHD Display
Big words Avg customers dont know about
Yay marketing, Crude work
nope xperia design is loosing its point
The main reason wich made me buy a smartphone now was the genius design of the XZseries, but since the Z3 they go this ****ty casual rounded borders way wich just looks as every other Iphone.replicant...
When I look at my naked Z2, damn I get a tech.boner with nice crispy borders looks like a chocolate.bar! Yummyyummy
And hopefully the Z4 comes with an Ultra version thats the only thing I miss bout my Z2 make them bigger, I anyways charge daily whats the point of small screen for the sake of 30% battery over the night so u have to charge in the mifdle of the next day xD
I also had seen an Z4 design earlier wich went more onto my desired way of design but i think it was a phantom....Ill post a link when I find it later

The Z4 will be almost the same as Z2. There are pics of the Display and the stereo speakers that are the same as our Z2's ( : So Sony heard us about the sh..ty Z3 design at least. I love my Z2 design also..Its just..stylish and elegant :fingers-crossed:

I like Sony, phone has good quality, design also nice
Xperia Z4 will be a 5.5" inch screen and UHD resolution and snapdragon 805 (confirmed informations) not much, but little informations is better than nothing
