power button broken, how to start phone if powered off - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

My phone's power button broken totally and I cant change it for now (after exams )
if the phone powered off how can i turn it on again? and how much a new power button costs?

with a usb jig you can put the phone into download mode without power button
from there you can cancel connection and restart the phone with the volume down button
Cant tell you how much something will cost - it will vary from country to country and town to town
google is your friend for that one for looking up your local repair shop and then calling them

[hack] broken power button "fix" - remap genius

UPDATE: This remapping allows the Genius button to "act" like the power on button while your phone is on. Having trouble getting it to actually turn the phone on. Any thoughts?
Dead or dying power button on you MT4G? Mine was dying suddenly and i didn't want the hassle and risk a warranty exchange and get a phone with a bad eMMC chip or screen. Also didn't want to pay $100 to get the power button replaced.
Using the guide found below, I just remapped my Genius/search button in hopes it will become a power button (UPDATE: as of right now, it can only act to shut off the screen and to power down the phone--powering on the phone via the remapped button doesn't work yet.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836702
The only difference: by key 183, replace FUNC_4 with POWER (all caps).
like when you press the genius button, it turns the actual phone on/off...or just the screen on/off? if it turns the phone itself on/off, thats pretty cool as my power button was getting a bit unresponsive also. you could also use the trackpad to wake up the device(not sure if all roms have this feature tho). but either way Ive never thought of this little mod, reps to you
I've tried remapping Genius and Camera (I know, potentially lose a factory reset option), NEITHER of these will act to power on the phone. They'll power it down and shut the screen off, but they won't wake up an off phone.
Could it be that the power button is the only button capable of turning the phone on (based on hardware wiring and $hit?).
I've tried swapping Genius and Home buttons...they work perfectly EXCEPT for as a way to power the phone on.
I've also read that you can power up the phone by plugging it in and holding down the home button. That doesn't seem to work for me.
There must be some other code that would make this work...
Thank you for this. With the TPU case holding the power button to power off the phone is a little strange. Cant tell if im pressing the button too hard or not. I do not want to press it harder than I need to cause I know how fragile they can be. Now I dont have to worry about it!
Getting a replacement
The remapping POWER is surely helpful to some...and prevents wear on the pitiful power button.
But with no clear, definitive way to turn my phone on, should the power button completely die (which seems like it will this weekend...it's worse each time), I'd be f*cked.
I did the web customer chat with T-Mobile to get a replacement. They offered me a Samsung Galaxy S. I declined that, saying I want a MT4G or better. They responded that the MT4G is out of stock and they don't know when, if ever, if will be available. This waste of time was about an hour.
So I CALLED customer service, explained the situation, the rep looked in their systems and talked with a manager and said they have *limited* stock of MT4G. My guess is that when something is *limited* they can't give it out as an exchange. Anyhow, this rep put in the order, making sure they had the MT4G in stock, and wondered why the web chat people said they were on back order. This CS experience took about 15 minutes.
Should have a replacement MT4G next week--hopefully good screen, good chip and good power button.
This is only my second exchange.
ANY changes to the power button behavior in the ROM are in effect only when the ROM is up and running.
You can't do ANYTHING to make the phone turn on using another button when it's off, without reworking the HW.

S4 screen went black and will not turn on now

Hi there I just noticed that my phone will not turn it's screen on. Just when I press Home button or Power button them 2 touch buttons on bottom will start flashing and nothing else will happend. Even after taking battery off for few minutes and restarting phone doesn't help. After restarting phone screen will just blink for split second and then stays black! Phone was working on just few hours ago and wasn't touch since then just untill now. This is stock GT-I9505 updated with Kies few days ago. Did anybody heard about something like that before? Can't connect to Kies now as screen needs to be unlocked for this. Please help as I don't know what to do!
You could try download mode to see if you get any display there and it may also be worth checking the user accessible stuff (sim/take out sd card/check sockets for foreign objects etc) but I would start looking at getting it replaced under warranty.
cheers
Removed both sim and sd card with no joy. How to get to download mode? as I've tried all those ways:
FIRST METHOD (easiest/most common)
1) Power phone off
2) Plug USB into computer
3) Hold vol up + vol down
4) Plug USB into phone while still holding the vol up and vol down
5) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
Your now in Download mode
SECOND METHOD
1) Power phone off
2) Plug USB into Computer
3) Plug microUSB into phone
4) Hold pwr + vol up + vol down
5) When Batt icon goes away, release pwr, still holding vol up + vol down
6) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
You should now be in Download mode.
THIRD METHOD
1) Power phone off
2) Pull battery out
3) Hold vol up + vol down
4) While holding vol up + vol down, plug in USB cable into the phone
5) While still holding vol up + vol down, put battery back in
6) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
You should now be in Download mode.
and this one as well:
How to get into Download Mode (eg: for Odin)
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME DOWN' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 2 seconds until a WARNING! Screen appears. Press the 'VOLUME UP' button to enter Download Mode.
To get out of Download Mode, simply press and hold the power button until the phone restarts.
Screen still stays black. I forgot to say that when turning it on it vibrates as normal and after I remove battery for 10-15 sec and put it back again and then turn phone back on screen just flick for split second but not at whole area only part of it - different part every time I try this

I think you'd rather get it repaired or replaced. It seems the display is dead.
That's what I'm afraid will have to be done. Just hard to stay without it just a week after getting it from store
Haven't you heard? Once you go black you never go back.

I had the same problem, what I did was went to youtube and try to disassembled the phone.
-Checked to make sure everything is in the right place
-Took off all of the components and leave the motherboard by itself
-Heat up the motherboard with blow dryer for sometime until it get hot (not wayy too hot)
-Put the battery back on (don't screw drive anything back yet)
-Try to power up
-To make sure it works properly, lightly flicks on to every places on the side of the phone and screen.
-Put everything back on gently and done
Reflow soldering using home tools of any kind is, at best, a crapshoot. Using an oven, as some people recommend, runs the risk of melting plastic components if you turn the heat up too much. Plus the temperatures these people recommend are too low to melt the solder completely, which is what you want in reflow work. A hair dryer is a better idea than the oven since you can direct the heat. However, a lot of the heat generated by the hair dryer doesn't actually blow onto what you're trying to fix. The hair dryer also suffers from not being able to put out sufficient heat to melt solder completely. The best of the home solutions without spending tons of money on a solder reflow station, is a heat gun. Even the most basic heat gun puts out sufficient heat to melt solder completely, plus the heat is concentrated on a small area, which is what you want. I would know, as the laptop I'm typing this on was repaired twice. The first time using the oven method, and the second time using a heat gun.
Prior to purchasing the heat gun, I had tried baking my laptop's motherboard in the oven at 385 degrees F (196 degrees C) for ten minutes. The fix worked, for about a month. The problem was that the recommended temperature was too low to melt solder. Lead-free solder, which is used in most electronics worldwide, melts around 217 degrees C (422 degrees F). While I could have tried again at the higher setting, there is a risk of the plastic components on the motherboard melting, so I had to try something else.
I considered the hair dryer, but after doing a little research determined that the hair dryer just didn't have what it takes to get the job done. I bought the heat gun instead. To reflow my laptop GPU for example, I had to make sure all components except the GPU were covered in aluminum foil. I then held the gun one inch (2.54cm) above the chip and turned it on, holding it steady. After letting the gun run for a minute I shut it off and waited twenty minutes for the board to cool.
As of now, the heat gun repair has lasted longer than the oven repair. Hopefully I can get another year out of the laptop before getting a replacement. But, regardless of how the reflow work is done, there is no guarantee as to how long the repair will actually last. For some people, it doesn't work at all. Some people may get a month or two, like I did with the oven reflow. Some lucky individuals may actually have the repair last essentially forever. But when you're out of warranty and the repair service wants to charge an arm and a leg, what do you really have to lose?

Samsung Sm- J120H aka Galaxy J1 (2016) LCD problem

Hello, I hope this is the right forum for my question, sorry if I made a mistake. Anyway, my uncle bought this phone month ago in another country, everything worked fine until yesterday when LCD stopped working. After some time of trying to fix it, we concluded that if you press volume (up, down or both at the same time) button and then the power button, screen turns on and works for some time (couple minutes) but then goes black again. If you just press power button (without pressing volume button) it stays black but you can still hear it unlocks when you slide your finger across the screen, so touch screen works, phone works but LCD is black. I am guessing it's loosing connection but how does it turn on every time when I press volume button? It's very confusing. Phone was in a protective case since first day and it hasn't been dropped. Since it's bought in another country, it would cost more to return it there than to buy new one, so do you have any ideas? I have been replacing lcd screens for my friends last two years so I was thinking maybe I can disassemble it and check connections. Any help? sorry for my bad english

Hello there, I'm from Brazil, as my english may not be the best lol... So I have same phone as you and similar problem... The problem is that volume down doesn't work. Other buttons work fine though. Also, the phone always enters in safe mode, so I assumed the volume down button is being pressed all the time. Except that, I realized that I could enter in download mode (I tested, if I don't press volume down in the combo 'power button + home + volume down' it won't get into download) and if I press volume down to cancel it will actually cancel and restart the phone. So the button is working... Here is the part where I think the problem is similar. There was a time I turned the phone off, through the system as we normally do, and then it wouldn't turn on again. I realized it was actually turning on, but the screen was black. I tried entering download mode and tested on odin and it actually had entered download mode, but the screen was black... Then after several attempts it finally got back on again... So I think there is something related with the button circuit with the lcd, I don't know. I would like to know if you got to any solution there. I guess that instead of bringing you any solution I'm bringing another problem lol. Well if I have any other information I will post it here. Best wishes.
