S4 screen went black and will not turn on now - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there I just noticed that my phone will not turn it's screen on. Just when I press Home button or Power button them 2 touch buttons on bottom will start flashing and nothing else will happend. Even after taking battery off for few minutes and restarting phone doesn't help. After restarting phone screen will just blink for split second and then stays black! Phone was working on just few hours ago and wasn't touch since then just untill now. This is stock GT-I9505 updated with Kies few days ago. Did anybody heard about something like that before? Can't connect to Kies now as screen needs to be unlocked for this. Please help as I don't know what to do!

You could try download mode to see if you get any display there and it may also be worth checking the user accessible stuff (sim/take out sd card/check sockets for foreign objects etc) but I would start looking at getting it replaced under warranty.
cheers

Removed both sim and sd card with no joy. How to get to download mode? as I've tried all those ways:
FIRST METHOD (easiest/most common)
1) Power phone off
2) Plug USB into computer
3) Hold vol up + vol down
4) Plug USB into phone while still holding the vol up and vol down
5) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
Your now in Download mode
SECOND METHOD
1) Power phone off
2) Plug USB into Computer
3) Plug microUSB into phone
4) Hold pwr + vol up + vol down
5) When Batt icon goes away, release pwr, still holding vol up + vol down
6) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
You should now be in Download mode.
THIRD METHOD
1) Power phone off
2) Pull battery out
3) Hold vol up + vol down
4) While holding vol up + vol down, plug in USB cable into the phone
5) While still holding vol up + vol down, put battery back in
6) Yellow /_\ (triangle, Downloading, Andy shoveling, Do not turn off Target!!! symbol)
You should now be in Download mode.
and this one as well:
How to get into Download Mode (eg: for Odin)
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME DOWN' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 2 seconds until a WARNING! Screen appears. Press the 'VOLUME UP' button to enter Download Mode.
To get out of Download Mode, simply press and hold the power button until the phone restarts.
Screen still stays black. I forgot to say that when turning it on it vibrates as normal and after I remove battery for 10-15 sec and put it back again and then turn phone back on screen just flick for split second but not at whole area only part of it - different part every time I try this

I think you'd rather get it repaired or replaced. It seems the display is dead.

That's what I'm afraid will have to be done. Just hard to stay without it just a week after getting it from store

Haven't you heard? Once you go black you never go back.

I had the same problem, what I did was went to youtube and try to disassembled the phone.
-Checked to make sure everything is in the right place
-Took off all of the components and leave the motherboard by itself
-Heat up the motherboard with blow dryer for sometime until it get hot (not wayy too hot)
-Put the battery back on (don't screw drive anything back yet)
-Try to power up
-To make sure it works properly, lightly flicks on to every places on the side of the phone and screen.
-Put everything back on gently and done

Reflow soldering using home tools of any kind is, at best, a crapshoot. Using an oven, as some people recommend, runs the risk of melting plastic components if you turn the heat up too much. Plus the temperatures these people recommend are too low to melt the solder completely, which is what you want in reflow work. A hair dryer is a better idea than the oven since you can direct the heat. However, a lot of the heat generated by the hair dryer doesn't actually blow onto what you're trying to fix. The hair dryer also suffers from not being able to put out sufficient heat to melt solder completely. The best of the home solutions without spending tons of money on a solder reflow station, is a heat gun. Even the most basic heat gun puts out sufficient heat to melt solder completely, plus the heat is concentrated on a small area, which is what you want. I would know, as the laptop I'm typing this on was repaired twice. The first time using the oven method, and the second time using a heat gun.
Prior to purchasing the heat gun, I had tried baking my laptop's motherboard in the oven at 385 degrees F (196 degrees C) for ten minutes. The fix worked, for about a month. The problem was that the recommended temperature was too low to melt solder. Lead-free solder, which is used in most electronics worldwide, melts around 217 degrees C (422 degrees F). While I could have tried again at the higher setting, there is a risk of the plastic components on the motherboard melting, so I had to try something else.
I considered the hair dryer, but after doing a little research determined that the hair dryer just didn't have what it takes to get the job done. I bought the heat gun instead. To reflow my laptop GPU for example, I had to make sure all components except the GPU were covered in aluminum foil. I then held the gun one inch (2.54cm) above the chip and turned it on, holding it steady. After letting the gun run for a minute I shut it off and waited twenty minutes for the board to cool.
As of now, the heat gun repair has lasted longer than the oven repair. Hopefully I can get another year out of the laptop before getting a replacement. But, regardless of how the reflow work is done, there is no guarantee as to how long the repair will actually last. For some people, it doesn't work at all. Some people may get a month or two, like I did with the oven reflow. Some lucky individuals may actually have the repair last essentially forever. But when you're out of warranty and the repair service wants to charge an arm and a leg, what do you really have to lose?

[SOLVED] Bricked? S.O.S! Please help me ):

Hey guys, so I got two Vibrants, mine and my girlfriends. I updated hers via Kies to KA6 today, everything went fine.
I went on to update mine... but now it's stuck into a black screen with
phone <!> PC
in the middle.
I tried volume up + down + power to get into download mode, but it's not working. Any ideas? Can I even fix it?
Please, any help would be appreciated!
EDIT: So yeah... ODIN was able to flash it without being in download mode, somehow. The brick screen just went away and I'm running KA6. thank you!
Volume up + down - power should do it
Meaning dont push power at all

Yep.
1) Remove battery from phone
2) plug USB into Computer
3) plug USB into Phone
4) Hold down volume rocker (both + and -) DO NOT HOLD DOWN POWER BUTTON
5) While holding down Volume rocker plug USB into phone
If your phone is not hardkey locked you should now be in download
It just won't go into download mode. Trying for over and hour, the 3 keys method. It just goes back to same screen.
ODIN does recognize it as ID:0/006 and COM6 but can't flash it.
unplug usb, take out the battery, press and HOLD the 2 volume buttons, put battery back in, then plug in the usb again. You should get into download mode after that and ull probably need to odin back to stock.
What about phone off battery in hold vol up and down then put the usb in also try another usb port and make sure the drivers are working properly

Yeah.........
So I tried:
1. Vol. Up + Down + Power
2. Battery off, Vol. Up + Down, plug in USB
3. Battery on, Vol. Up + Down, plug in USB
4. Battery off, vol. up + Down, Battery on, plug in USB
Everything just keeps taking me back to the same screen. I'm officially screwed, right?

you can try the jig method.
I've always been able to get in by:
-removing the battery. (wait a few seconds)
-put battery back in but DO NOT power it on.
-hold the volume keys
-plug in the cable.
this gets me to download mode 100% of the time.
Hope this helps.
sure fire way into DL mode

Plug in different USB
Try to change usb ports on the computer.
After changing make sure phone is off and hold down volume buttons then plug in usb.. Make sure phone is completely off before doing so.
Tried all my USB ports now, in some of them, the PC recognizes it as an "USB Composite Device" and a "Samsung Modem", but I still get the same screen. No download mode at all. I think I just lost US$ 600.
Give it one last try.
Hey there, give it one last try, follow the instructions exactly.
1) Restart your computer.
2) Take your Sim card, microsd, and battery out of your phone, and leave all 3 out
3) Once computer restarts, open odin.
4) Attach one end of your usb cable ONLY to your computetr, NOT your phone yet.
5) Take your vibrant, with your sim card, microsd and battery still out.
6) take the vibrant, and hold down both volume up and volume down at the same time. DO NOT TOUCH POWER. (MAKE SURE YOU are holding down the edges of the volume rocker, if you try pressing both by holding the middle of the rocker down, it wont work).
7) Now, while still holding down vol up and vol down, don't ever let go, and take the other end of your usb cable and plug it into the phone. Still don't let go of both vol buttons, and do not touch power. Keep on holding.
8) Next, get your battery only, and while still holding down the vol up/vol down, take your battery and slide it in. (sim card and micro sd are still left out)
If all goes ok then you should get into download, if not then sounds like your bootloader got messed up and I don't think the USB jig will help either.
You guys will probably think I'm crazy... but ODIN flashed KA6 just fine without being in download mode. it was on the brick screen and it just... worked.
I'm speechless. Thank you for all your help!
keep usb plugged in.
onwhen you get that screen,
hold down vol up, vol down, and power,
screen will flash black, keep holding,
you'll see the screen again,
keep holding
when screen flashes black the 2nd time, let go of power.

tab bricked need help

Hello all,
My mother got an a500 about seven months ago and the other day she put it to charge and the next day it wouldn't turn on at all, just a black screen. When the charger is plugged in, the power button glows white. Take it off charge and the light goes out and that's all it will do.
I have tried searching through multiple forums and I have tried all the solutions I have found. I tried pressing the reset button near the usb plug, I tried a hard reset by holding the power and volume + buttons multiple ways, i.e. I held them both for thirty seconds, held the vol button and pressed power for three seconds and about every other iteration I could find. Nothing happened not even a vibration like from what I've read it is supposed to do. I downloaded the update.acer.zip file and put it on an sd card and tried flashing it by holding the power and vol - buttons, still nothing.
The tab has not been moded in any way, however, God only knows what apps my mother way have downloaded to it...
I am at my wits end and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a noob so it wouldn't surprise me if I am not doing the flashing right or if I have the wrong files, all the links I found on the forums were non functional and I had to download it from filecorp.com.
Thanks in advance!

The white light when plugged to the charger just indicates it's fully charged.
Test 1. Press and hold the PWR button for 7 seconds, release, wait a couple seconds to see if it responds, then press and hold for another 7 seconds. See if it responds. This is to check if the tab is in Sleep of Death (SOD)
Test 2. Using a paper clip, press and hold the pinhole reset (near USB) and then press and hold PWR. After 4 seconds release PWR, 1 second later release pinhole. See if is vibrates and goes into APX mode, (tab should vibrate once with a black screen and white PWR button) if it does, press and hold PWR only for a few seconds. Wait a couple seconds, then PWR on tab by holding PWR about 6 or 7 seconds.
Test 2 is just to see if the tab responds to anything,
If you can't get any response from the above, then it's best to turn it in for repair.
MD
@Moscow Desire: he pressed the reset button already so it is probably not SoD. Unless SoD makes reset button unresponsive too.
My tab does not vibrate when entering APX mode at all. Only the white power button LED turns on and the screen stays off.
@Core645: try this at first
- disconnect charger so the LED turns off
- hold power button for about 5 seconds
If the power button LED turns white and nothing else is happening then your tab is stuck in APX mode. You can confirm this by connecting micro USB cable from your PC. If you have windows it'll ask for drivers for Nvidia Download Mode or something like that.
Then check what Moscow Desire suggests with the reset button. I only ask you do my check at first because by holding reset you would achieve the same result and you wouldn't know if it is stuck in APX or you just forced it to APX by holding reset button.

[Q] Power Button Completely Dead - Cannot Turn on Phone

My power button gradually died over a week after having the phone since release. I took it all apart and let the power button and the little thing attached to it soak in pure alcohol and alcoholed the parts near the power button, it still doesn't work.
Everything else works however, screen starts charging when I plug it in,etc. Is there any way to turn on the Nexus 4 without the power button so I can use it again?
Thank you
just short the 2 golden contacts in the mobo(its what power button does '-') till it turns on

Is it possible to boot phone with a broken power button?

After replacing the battery in my X11575, the power button seems to be broken now. After taking it to a local repair shop, I was told that some of the components were damaged while the battery was being installed. Though the power button is broken both volume buttons still seem to be functional. With the volume buttons still working, is there any way to turn on the phone while in recovery mode without a power button? Thanks
If you have a computer with fastboot set up this might get it. I'm not certain if this will work, but it is worth a try (works on some Snapdragon devices). Start with the computer booted up and a USB cable plugged into it. Hold vol down on the phone and plug in the USB cable. That might boot it into fastboot. If it works enter this command on the computer and it should reboot normally:
Code:
fastboot reboot

Yes. This happened to me with a Moto X 2nd Gen, with a broken power flex.
First you need to remove the back cover. Use the iFixit guide because it'll tell you where flex cables are located under the cover so you don't snag or break them.
Then you'll see a ZIF connector just under the flash. If you short the 1st and 4th pin, it will turn on. You can use a paperclip, staple, etc. If you can't get it to cut on, just keep trying. Those pins go to switches on the board, so you won't short out anything electrical by messing with it with the power off.
(Only short them for as long as you would push the power button down to turn the phone on. If you hold it for too long it'll boot into the bootloader, which actually would be fine now that I'm thinking about it, since you can reboot to system from there.)
Just make sure it's not plugged in when you are jumping the lines.
I included some pics I just took with a X Pure/Style I just replaced the display on and confirmed it's the same as the X 2nd Gen.
If you have issues, just hit me back.

[Help] one plus 6t not vibrating or turning on after being plugged up

So I have a rooted oneplus 6t that was doing quite well for a little while now but for some reason today it died when it was hooked up to a charger. When I unplugged it and plugged it back in it did its usual vibration to signify it was connected but then it showed a qualcomm crash error (died too quickly to see it fully but it was small so I at least saw some of what it said) now when I try to let it charge it doesnt vibrate and doesnt even turn on when I left it on charge for a good hour now and when i hold vol up +power, vol down + power, both vol +power,or just power for their respective seconds to get the phone to respond. Tried looking for a answer online but none are similar to what i am having atm. Also my computer wont even see it either while it's like this. I've tried other cords as well to see if it was a cord issue and wasnt it's been sitting on the charger since 10:55 am est. Help?
It usually just takes some persistence. Usually the power + volume up will force it off, and then power it back on does the trick, sometimes it seems like it's all three buttons (which shouldn't do anything?) . I've had a couple times I've been just about to give up when it finally boots back up to fastboot.
Volume Up + Power while turning on will boot to fastboot.
Volume Down + Power while turn on will boot to recovery.
Holding Volume Up + Power should force the phone to turn off.
Volume Up + Volume Down should put your phone in Download mode for the MSM Tool.
Make sure you hold the buttons much long than you think you should have too.
