S5 Firmware  - Galaxy S II General

Finally it's here for Porting Pleasure
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/03/24/first-galaxy-s5-firmware-is-now-available-for-download/

Please! to all master port it our S2 so we can experience having an S5. :victory:

And how precisely do you expect this to happen on a 3x superceded/3yr old phone with enormous hardware differences ? Having the same look in a rom as another phone does not give you 'the experience' of that phone

Yes, I agree. The best we will get might be some of the new TouchWiz apps. Not sure how usefull that is.

On the eve of the Vibrant release, I have a few questions...

Coming from a Nexus One. I know you can achieve root but here is what I want to know:
Has Samsung provided the tools so developers can begin cooking ROMS?
If so, is it possible to cook a Froyo version so we don't have to wait for Samsung's typically lazy *** to push it out?
Is it possible to turn off touch wiz and use stock Android?
These are my primary concerns and I appreciate any help with them.
TouchWiz enhances usability of the phone, and actually adds some useful features. You should check out the video from MobileBurn here:
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/07/samsung-vibrant-meta-review-extravaganza/
I don't think it's something you'll really want to turn off.

After my using the Behold 2 for a week I held no hope for Touchwiz but after using it in my store today and watching some reviews I actually like it. I would like root but I'm not sure if I want to give up Touchwiz.

the closest thing you can get to froyo is the froyo looking launcherpro which also removes the touchwiz 3.0 at the same time making it run faster, i currently have it on my g1 with a 2.1 rom and it's running super quick.
look up "samsung galaxy launcher" and you should find a couple of videos of it running launcher pro on youtube
oh did i mention this app is free and does not need rooting to work?

You got it man, I just picked up mine.... can not say enough how impressed I am. Big kudos to Samsung for the changes they have made. well done.

[Q] are you working on a custom rom?

Just curious.
------------no
Will be shortly - CM9, and kernel and battery optimisations FTW
I'm reading a lot of info on how to make my own roms. Very interested in building a lightweight/fast rom for the Note.

If you could share a few links - that would be lovely. I have plenty of time these days and some relevant background too. It should not be that difficult to port CM7, for example.
I'm also getting a bit frustrated, reaaly. 1)There's not going to be an ICS OTA update for at least 4 months - no matter what a Samsung rep said somewhere - no OEM has ever managed a version upgrade in less than that. 2) Half of all the 'development' with the Note comes from a person, who's 12 years old and, frankly, with all due respect, has better and more useful thing to do with his/her time. Well, not that I don't, but at least I can excercise better judgement as to priritizing my commitments;-)

touchwiz ui port?

i found app called rom porter in some thread
and i did manufacturer port with that of s4 stock rom no mods nothing will the port that i made will boot because i'm afraid if that bricked my phone
and dont know anything about porting or someother stuff
but is it safe to flash that rom if something goes wrong what can i do please
i want s4 camera basically all those features of s4 camera so is there any other way i can get that on my aosp rom
and as a base i have used our stock google aosp rom no mod nothing
I guess No. As it requires a different set of framework.
Off-topic: I hope people here don't eat you alive but sadly the most common answer to such threads on xda is: "What a loser, why buy Nexus..Go get a Samsung.. Huh"
s4 camera hardware is completely different than the nexus 4 camera hardware, how do you expect the s4 camera on a nexus 4?? and no, porting the s4 rom onto the n4 isnt as easy as an app, theres much more to it, especially from a completely different phone with completely different drivers/framework/hardware.

Clone Camera Clone Camera. It's the best cloning App out there. And I have used MANY. Almost all available on app store. See in the attached SC.
Not a full port, but most touchwiz ui elements have been brought over. Check it out here: http://www.androidrootz.com/2013/03/twnexusui-rom-for-nexus-4-touchwiz-look.html?m=1

[Q] Should i buy i9300 or i9305 ?? Pls HELP :D

I know that i9305 has 1GB more of RAM and has LTE but im confused about developer support. Everyone says that it has almost none developer support. Does that mean that even Samsung wont develope new updates and it will have less features than i9300, or it means that it wont have as much custom ROMs as i9300 has ?
If i9305 has the same updates and the same features that come with those as i9300, then ill go for i9305 for sure
And BTW i dont need LTE
Hope someone will answer fast
Thanks in advance!!
You're better off buying another device, perhaps a Nexus 5 or even the newer SGS if money is not a problem.

Well i kinda dont have money for better device And i find S3 the best phone for me right now but that developer support for i9305 bothers me
And also do i really need that extra 1GB of RAM ? I saw videos on youtube and only difference i noticed was that i9300 needs to reopen apps after it consumes too much RAM and that makes him a bit slower than i9305 everything else seemes exact same

What are you missing on the development front for i9305? The major roms etc seems to be available for both models as far as i can see.

Aha, Well to me, here on XDA developer support means the developers here on the forums which makes our phones more awesome than Samsung can.

depending on where you live/LTE coverage. there isnt too much of a difference between the 2 devices. i used my i9300 and my uncles i9305 and couldnt notice much if anything. so if you dont need LTE save yourself some money and buy a good case or something

Get the i9305. Even without the dev support, you'll still be able to find one or two decent roms. And these days everything is achieved by Xposed anyways. The newer updates from 4.3 on will really need the extra ram.

Well the dev support is great with 9300, also i don't see ram as an issue too. It depends upon whether he's a heavy multi-task user or lowe multi-task user? I'm pretty happy with 200-300mb ram free always

If we get stock 4.4 on our I9300, won't it be supposed to consume less ram than stock 4.3 ? After all the whole point of KitKat was less ram consumption.
I'm actually expecting when samsung releases 4.4 for our device it will greatly improve multitasking... hope I'm not wrong.

When will we see Cyanogenmod ?

So when do you guys think samsung will decide to release the code for the exynos and we can get more ROMS ?
Are you excited or want cyanogenmod ?

I was thinking king about this too. I am a fan of AOSP Roms, but the camera quality is always neutered so badly on samsung phones, it's not worth it. Not to mention other stuff like finger print scanner and the edge stuff. We have root and a theme engine as well as exposed, it's pretty good.
The only phone that I used CM on that was worth it from Samsung was the note 4 because somebody made a camera nightshot fix, the pic quality was indistinguishable from TW, but that was an exception.
