Ok, so im trying to install Cyanogen Mod 10. I have everything backed up to my SD card, and I have both the ROM and Gapps on my SD card too. when i boot into recovery mode, the follwing screen appears. after a few minutes of doing abdolutely nothing, it will eventually just reboot back into the normal operating system. What am I doing wrong/how can i fix this?
Do you have an aftermarket recovery or SafeStrap installed? If you don't, you won't be able to install CM.
That is the screen for your stock recovery. To get into recovery itself, you hold vol down and tap vol up at the same time. If you have SafeStrap installed, you need to reboot the phone and wait for the SafeStrap screen to come up. When it comes up, choose recovery, and then you'll be booted into SS recovery. In there, you can create a slot and flash CM.

I have my nook rooted and all of that and for some reason I decided to wipe the thing clean in CWM recovery and now it won't boot to anything unless I boot from SD. I've tried booting into a rom from SD and installing CWM recovery again through rom manager and it says that is has flashed successfully but when I tell it to restart it goes back to the rom on the SD of course, so I tried taking the SD out and holding down the N and booting into recovery and I get nothing no loading screen no nothing, am I not getting CWM installed? Is there a zip I can flash from CWM on SD to flash it?
EDIT!!!!! If i had remembered to format the right things then I wouldn't have had an issue.
If you are having the problem described above remember to format BOOT, System, and Data. And then flash your rom.
See post#4 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205047
Thank you I don't know what I was thinking, if I had just formated the right things it would have worked just fine, I am a tard sometimes.
I got my S3 today, and of course set out to root it immediately. Everything went fine until I went to install google apps. I inadvertantly chose the wrong zip and installed the ones for my Skyrocket. Now it boots fine, but is stuck in an error notification loop where it says gapps has closed and setup has failed. If I could get back to the recovery panel, I'd know exactly what to do, but I can't get there with this phone for some reason. When I reboot with down volume, it boots into "safe" mode, but still gets stuck in the loop. If I reboot with down volume and home, I go to the Downloading screen. Could someone please help me get back to the recovery panel???:silly:

So close, Volume up home and power, and it should get to to recovery.
If you can't boot into recovery, but you can boot into download mode just flash a stock ROM through Odin then flash the correct version of gapps sand you should be good

I can now get into recovery (thank you!) but it's a hobbled recovery, not the touch recovery I installed when I originally rooted. It only gives me four options, including install zip from external sd. When I try to install CM or gapps I get a failed to get permission message and the installation aborts. Unfortunately, fix permissions is not one of the four options I'm presented with
So now I'm trying to flash clockwork mod touch from odin, but it hangs at the Samsung Galaxy boot screen when it goes to reboot. Any ideas out there?

I managed to flash a new cwm via odin and got into my familiar cwm. From there I was able to reinstall cm10 and gapps (the right one this time!) and it no longer hangs at the samsung galaxy boot screen, and is FIXED. Thank you so much for your help!!
My custom recovery (TWRP) keeps shutting off its screen while in recovery and rebooting itself to recovery. Is this normal?
The reason I tried to root and install a custom recovery was because I wanted to use the hotspot method.
While on stock, I used odin to install shabbypenguin CWM before I rooted, I tried to boot to recovery using Vol UP+ Power while the phone was off but the phone never booted into recovery. The phone said "recovery booting" but then it just rebooted the phone never actually booting to recovery.
I then used motochopper root method to first root phone, then installed goomanager to install TWRP. From goomanager I rebooted to recovery.
While in recovery I flashed the hotspot mod and my screen kept shutting off and rebooting itself to recovery.
It automatically rebooted the system and luckily the hotspot mod works, I used the hotpot mod within the phones settings (I believe thats what it was suppose to do)
I'm afraid to use the custom recovery again because it doesn work for me?
What am I doing wrong?
you need to let go of the keys when you try to power on and into it

Yep^. Also you should probably use shabbypenguins oudhs cwm 1.0.3.3 for now until the twrp issues ate resolved. its been rock solid so far for me. Love the way it navigates too.
Hi,
I have Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500.
I installed Cyanogen latest nightly build. Cyanogen worked perfect. I reset to factory settings from Cyanogen's settings. But after that:
- I can not open the phone's recovery (volumeup + home +power)
- I can not start operating system.
On both theese actions "Samsung" logo appears for 3 seconds, but after nothing is happening. Black screen stucks.
I look from eclipse logcat's, there is no log from phone. because OS did not started.
I tried to re-install clockwork (exatly with same files), but did not changed anything. I am not getting errors or even warning.
I will be happy if you can help me.
Thank you
Are you able to get into download mode (volume down, home, power)? If so, flash a stock ROM using Odin. If the S4 works after flashing the stock ROM, install TWRP recovery and then install Cyanogenmod.
P. S. You want to install TWRP as Clockworkmod is no longer being updated.
Hi,
had the problem of not getting into recovery at all randomly. Shutting down the phone, removing the battery and leaving the phone untouched for about half an hour helped me to enter recovery.

Hi,
I try these: I wait for 1 night by putting out the battery, also I restart the phone million times. But nothing changed.

I did not try to install different recovery software. Because Clockworkmod is already worked for the first time.
I will try to install other recovery softwares and I will write the results here.
Thank you

I solve my problem by installing TWRP recovery. I could not understand how Clockworkmod stoped to work itself by doing nothing.
Thank you for your interest.
Clockworkmod is no longer maintained and doesn't recognize some coding in recent updater scripts included with ROMs. That is why it fails while TWRP succeeds.

Before dload method, you need to flash stock boot img and stock recovery img. Then use dload method. (Use that same stock ROM)
After that you will in bootloop. When booting, press and hold vol up 3 seconds. On e-recovery, press shutdown.
Then press power and vol up for stock recovery. Do factory reset. If need do the factory reset 2/3 times.
Now you will be on stock.
Then you need to unlock bootloader, flash miticulus twrp v4. Dump stock boot+ system img. Do factory reset. Flash custom ROM lineage 13/14 miticulus. Reboot recovery, format data.
