Any way to enhance sound on Beats Music? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello folks....long, long time lurker. Anyway, I (my wife) decided to subscribe to the AT&T Beats Music service. I must say it is pretty good, but the audio quality is beyond horrible...You can only play songs through the app itself so it is definitely limited. I use it with my rooted Nexus 7 running CandyKat and my unrootable (my dumb fault) S4. Is there anything that can be done?

Anything?

I just flashed the beats music nexus 7 plugin an hour ago, but I haven't tested it yet.

I like the viper4android for sure. I wish there was a voodoo equivalent, though. I used it on my first galaxy and it was the best. Viper makes the sound better but voodoo makes it so much louder

[Q] Voodoo Sound on the N7?

I know the app store says that it isn't compatible, but I'd like to hear your opinions. Do you guys think that it might be / know that it is possible to use Voodoo Sound on the Nexus 7?

Seeing as how the audio hardware in the Nexus 7 is completely unrelated (not a Wolfson) to those of any of the previously supported devices in Voodoo Sound, I'm going to assume the Nexus 7 will never be supported.

Never say never. Supercurio tweeted the other day that one of his long term goals is to make a universal voodoo sound to run on any phone. He said no eta but a goal of his.

More than this, I haven't owned a device yet that he hasn't at least worked with developers to port his modifications. It's very likely that we will have support for voodoo sound eventually, although I will say Tegra devices are typically more challenging.
Implementation will be kernel specific, so keep an eye on the kernel devs for Voodoo support.

What this guy said. The Nexus 7 uses a Realtek audio chip not a Wolfson which has open source drivers that supercurio can modify to create near perfect sound.

Bluetooth SPP Profile

I just installed a new stereo receiver in my car. It's a JVC KD-X50BT. it works fine to skip tracks and such from the stereo , but it won't display the song name which, according to JVC, is related to the Nexus 4 not supporting bluetooth spp profile. Does anyone know anything about this?

Bluetooth SPP works fine for me, maybe it is the combination with the JVC stereo causing problems...
According to the representative I spoke to the N4 doesn't have the profile, do you know where I could find the correct specs for that?
Also, what media player do you use? I use Google music, I forgot to include that in the OP
Thanks
For what it's worth, I have the same problem on mine. I also had the same problem on my One X.

Same JVC receiver as you. I've used Google Play Music, the stock HTC music, and Pandora. The only way Pandora will display the info is if I use the special JVC-Pandora mode (but then it limits my skips to 5, eventhough I'm on Pandora One).
This sounds like it's an issue with the receiver then. Anyone have any confirmation (spec sheet, etc.) that would confirm that the N4 does indeed support spp so that I can call and rightfully rant?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Check this thread out. It's an issue with stock android and not your head unit. It only shows track info if I play music from Pandora and that's it. It's annoying. I have a Sony head unit.

Final answer (which is in line with all my experiments haha): the Nexus 4 on AOSP does not support the necessary Bluetooth profile (AVRCP 1.3). However some custom ROMs do, CyanogenMod does with the cavet that the feature has not yet been ported to CyanogenMod 10, that is it seems to have worked fine in CM 9 but isn't included in CM 10 yet. So it's just a question of waiting/kindly reminding the devs.

Nexus 4 vs SGS4 vs Htc One (lag)

Hi everybody, I want to buy one of this three devices (since I have a very old phone now, the galaxy ace), but I'd like to know which one is the most lagfree. The s4 and the htc one are surely faster (even If I saw some videos in which the n4 with custom rom was faster than an s4 with stock rom), but what about lag? Is the n4 really the smoothest android experience? Thanks in advance!
I have not gotten the chance to try the Galaxy S4 but I have gotten to use an HTC One for a few days, I loved the phone but I still feel my Nexus 4 was a smoother experience. The HTC one is extremely smooth and fast though, no doubt.
Sent from my Nexus 4
I've heard that the s4 has some lag. Either way every android phone I had with oem skin on has gotten more and more slow and laggy, my gnex is almost smoother then my s3 by now.. I have no idea why
Skickat från min Nexus 4 via Tapatalk 2
The S4 is very laggy at the moment. I've had both the AT&T and T-Mobile version both lag during leaving apps. Sometime it lags on the home screen while moving through pages.
HTC one i only got to play with for about 30 mins and it was pretty smooth. I didn't notice lag at all. But the nexus with a custom rom is going to be better until someone makes better use of the HTC one and GS4 power.
And for the record the GS4 lag on a custom rom CM10 and Wicked.
I played with a brand new s4 today, only factory apps installed, and imported contacts, and i definitely noticed some ui lag. Nexus 4 is way smoother imo.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The S4 is stupidly laggy for something with such amazing hardware. From videos that I've seen the One seems pretty much as lag-free as the N4, right now the One is definitely the best phone on the market IMO.
Ok guys, thanks for the help! I want the nexus 4 so badly!

I had a play wit ha S4 yesterday. Its almost unrecognizable as an android device. Samsung has done their best to bloat touchwiz up so bad, it almost wont run. Shame for a phone with such awesome hardware to have stuttering and lag like that .
S4 is too much laggy (exynos octa version) because it doesnt have a govenor and I/O scheduler sufficiently smart to manage the low-power and and performance cores.
If you wanna add a wildcard how about the s4 Google edition, all the nexus experience with the Sammy hardware. Unlocked bootloader out of the box. Should be a contender.

I read that the s4 gogle edition will be an USA exclusive, and I live in Italy... Also the nexus 4 looks 100 times cooler ahahah
I was torn between the GE S4 and the Nexus. I picked the nexus because it is the same experience for almost have the price.

I've got a Nexus 4. Zero lag. Very smooth. I've gone into a few different AT&T stores to check out the HTC One and the S4. Every time I tried the S4, the first thing I noticed was lag. I was really surprised. Even a little jittery when swiping the home screen. It's not terrible, don't get me wrong, but it's there. Didn't notice it with the HTC One.
My thoughts are that the HTC One has the highest build quality of the three. There's no doubt, it's the most "premium" and for that reason it makes me want one. It also has the best screen in my opinion. However, there's also no doubt that the Nexus 4 has the best software (both HTC and Samsung ruined their phones with all the unnecessary changes they made) and there's also obviously no doubt that it will get Android updates the quickest and longest into the future, so for that reason I'd stick with my Nexus 4. I also hate that both HTC and Samsung removed the dedicated app switcher button (which I use all the time). The Nexus 4 battery life is a little disappointing coming from an iPhone 4S, but it blows the iPhone away in almost every other way in my opinion.
The best phone "in the world" would be an HTC One that was a Nexus and had the app-switcher button. But, it doesn't exist. So, Nexus 4 is my vote instead.

Simpsons Tapped Out

I'm running stock rooted and since day one with this phone, the Simpsons game has been choppy and crashes often. I've sent quiet a bit of reports once it crashes, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?

Mine is choppy (low frame rate) occasionally - it was more noticeable during the recent halloween event. Seems ok now since the thanksgiving update.
It does crash quite frequently though - maybe one out of every three or four sessions.
I play daily and it crashes at least once every time I play it. Used to have sgs4 I337 running gpe Roms and it wouldn't work at all. Warrantied a bad headset speaker and here I am. The new sgs4 AT&T sent me had a locked boot loader and no root android 4.3. I didn't want a galaxy phone so sold it for 400 bought the nexus 5.
Level 37 now. Same as zulugod stated was laggy with Halloween update, better now.

In 37, it does have fps lag and crashes like six times before I can assign everyone to tasks

Ok glad it's not just me. I'm hoping in the next play store update, They'll fix it or something.

Every time it crashes I send the report. So I'm sure someone will eventually take a look and issue a small patch.

Annoying sound

Hi,
Since a few days my phone is making a annoying noise while playing music or watching a video. It kinda sounds like a little fracture in a cable or when you keep your phone close to a speaker or old television, but then for 0.5 second. It also happens irregularly and also happens when using headphones. I'm using Viper xHifi, but it doesn't make a difference when it's turned off. Does anyone know what it is and how to solve it?
Thanks

When it started, did something happen? Like .. did you drop your phone? or ... maybe just installed a new application? .. maybe changed the kernel settings?
Also, which ROM/kernel are you using?
I have been having this exact same issue on my nexus 4 and nexus 5... Both phones are rooted, stock rom, and on the latest version of Franco kernel. I have been looking all over for a solution but nothing yet...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I'm currently using psx kit Kat, it started suddenly. I haven't recently installed an app that possibly could have any influence on the sound. I think I've had it earlier and flashing a new rom fixed it, but I currently don't want to switch roms and I think it's strange that it happens so sudden.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I switched from franco to hellscore and it got a little better... Now it only seems to happen in YouTube. Will keep trying different kernels and keep you posted

I've got a bluetooth speaker for a few days now and with that one I don't hear that sound. But it still happens with my phone speaker and headphones, regardless of which app.

Maybe it has something to do with the music buffer size? I don't know how to increase it but a hiccup like this sounds like the buffer might be set too small and it's this split part of a second sometimes it takes to reload the next piece of music into the buffer?

About your issue. I have been using viper audio and had similar problem. The only thing that solves the problem was exchanging one file. I don't remember the name of that file but I'll try to find it for you.
On slimkat thread someone write that deletin dsp manager should resolve my issue. I will report later if it worked.
