[Q] How to restore EFS from nandroid backup? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Playing around with ROMs poses a risk and obviously I screwed up this time. So I restored from a full nandroid backup that I did yesterday, only to find that I have no IMEI and network connectivity is screwed up.
I also have an older full nandroid backup from January this year where I know that network works fine.
I restored the efs partition by reformatting it and populating it with the data from the old backup.
Yet, nothing has changed.
I can get some basic network connectivity back by using Pimp my ROM's option to access hidden menu by turning of the radio, changing the network type and turining on the radio again. But it's only Edge connectivity and the IMEI ist still 0 and adb logcat shows a lot off errors due to an unrecognized device.
Any ideas?

Did you try flash the latest modem?
In s3 there was once a major update of modem/efs. New efs with older modem will screw it up.
I don't know if it's same case in s4 as I have only moved into for very short time.

[Q] It's probably not an EFS corrupt partition

Scenario: On stock unrooted everything is working as it should on the Verizon Galaxy Note 3. The I would root it with TowelRoot, install BusyBox and SafeStrap and on the next reboot I would get Baseband "unknown", IMEI "unknown" etc under phone status. A few restart after that Cell signal will come back and one more reboot 4G signal is back. All that until the next reboot.
I have backup and restore the EFS partition using various EFS tool to no availability.
What can be causing this?
Thanks guys.
I;m having a similar issue. Restored from a backup, messed everything up. I was able to reflash stock firmware in Odin, re-partition, everything, got service, can make/receive calls and texts, no data tho. Greyed out 3g symbol.

[Q] Back from repair, IMEI restored, but empty efs and wifi reboots the phone?

I lost efs together with imei last week when I tried to flash a different modem. Running out of options I sent the phone to a repairer.
Today, after one week, I picked it up from them and they somehow got the imei back and the phone is working while I was still at their office.
Now I'm home and tried to connect it to my home's wifi, as soon as it connects, the phone reboots. It's very stable on mobile data though.
I cleared data, flashed different roms, but wifi connection always reboots it.
Then I looked in the efs folder and surprise, it's empty!!! I don't know whether that's the cause of the wifi problem, but isn't it odd that the phone runs ok otherwise without efs?
Anybody has any idea of what's happening to my phone? Can my wifi problem be fixed?
I do actually have an efs backup that I've done back in January. But I just can't remember what tool I used to make that file. The file name is "efs.img". Any suggestion at all?

[Q] EFS / IMEI / Network Issues, unable to find an answer

Long story short, a week ago I tried to encrypt a new rom and the rom did not show the encryption process, and after 3 hours I thought something went wrong and rebooted it. This is where the problems started. I obviously corrupted my EFS.
I tried installing stock firmware from sammobile, several different versions, and none worked. I looked through dozens and dozens of threads on here, and other sites, and found various solutions for EFS problems but everything entailed making a copy of the EFS and restoring it. Before I found these, I tried something else (I can't remember what), and apparently destroyed my EFS and was stuck at bootloader. After a lot of research I found a thread on here, for recreating the EFS partition, which allowed me to boot my phone into Android again, except it is stuck in factory mode. Network was still not working, IMEI was still wrong. After flashing a new modem, my phone detected my simcard, shows network detected, I can choose my APN and network, but network is still not working. No data, no sms, no calls. I've flashed several different stock firmwares again, and phone is still in factory mode, and IMEI is still on 0049. Factory reset and everything, wiped cache, flashed latest TWRP. I installed root browser, and it is showing the necessary files and folders in the EFS folder. Oh, and knox has been tripped, so no official firmware upgrade through Kies.
Before someone suggests sending phone in for repairs, or giving up hope, the fact that flashing the modem has gotten the phone to recognise the simcard and my carrier details, that must mean that there is some solution. Question is, what is the solution? I have gone through more threads than I can count with regards to EFS corruption and such, and I have searched for a solution to the problem but I have not found anything yet. There are no original EFS backups on my phone, and the only equipment I have are my laptop, Odin, and the internet. There aren't any service centres nearby either, which means my phone would need to be sent in for repairs, which can take anything from a week to a month. Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this problem? I can't imagine that I am doomed, considering the progress I have made.
Well, your main problem is this: The IMEI is NOT in the EFS folder, because the nv_data.bin file that used to be located in that folder was moved to a hidden partition on the device at some point during the lifetime of the S4. So even if you backed up the EFS folder you'd still be out of luck. A more comprehensive tool like Wanam's EFS Backup tool would have helped, since it not only does a backup of the EFS folder but the hidden partitions where the modem, its backup, and several other crucial pieces of information are stored, including the IMEI.
That said, there may still be hope for you. Attempt to flash your ROM through Odin, but also use a PIT file for your device, which can be found on the forums. It will recreate your partitions, and in doing so may resurrect your IMEI. However, if that does not work, you will have no choice but to send the device in for service.

Mobile Network doesn't work | Nexus 6P | Restore EFS

Hi,
Yesterday night I put my phone to charge and sleep. In the morning I experienced that mobile network doesn't work, but wifi works well.
Then I found a code *#*#4636#*#* and check my band, and accidentally I selected USA band. I've already changed my SIM also. Now my mobile network doesn't work.
Then I read that restoring EFS would solve the problem. But for the time being I don't have any backed up EFS for my device. IMEI is there.
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks
I'm having the exact same issue
I've charged my phone and left it while asleep
woke up
found out that there is no signal
though that it's a SIM card issue so i made a replacement
same issue occurs
I've tried to factory reset the device even flash the latest google factory image
so any help is much appreciated
Same here, no phone signal for past days, what's worse is that I'm out of my country, roaming in France, or should I say, unable to bake any calls...
Guys, has any of you found a solution?
This issue started for me when flashing the latest factory image. I do have an EFS back-up but I am very weary of flashing it. TWRP's current versions are known for bricking the device when trying to restore the EFS partition.

Don't do it, i was on TWRP -3.0.2-0 and tried to restore an old backup when the issue happened
experienced a bootloop and spent ages to recover the device from a soft brick and flash the factory image back again.
hey there, anyone got around this problem?

Axon 7 mini B2017G Australian firmware request

Hi,
I have Axon 7 mini B2017G and I have lost network signal.
This initially happened after updating firmware to EU (to get 7.1.1) I noticed sound not working. So I tried to root phone for TWRP and Lineage but that resulted in IMEI 0 for both IMEI's.
I have since restored both original IMEI but still cannot get signal for more than 30seconds after a full factory reset. Regardless of firmware, rooted or not rooted etc etc.
Seems I have lost important NV data while messing with Modems and restoring IMEI etc.
Can someone please do a full EDL backup with "Axon7_Mini_EDL_Tool" of All partitions (including modemst1, modemst2 fsg) so I can restore baseband configuration, modem partitions etc???
If that isn't an option for someone with the same phone as me, then can you please backup NV items as QCN file so I can try repair my network issue??
The idea i have is to restore ALL partitions from exact same model/version and then restore my original IMEI's in the hopes that I can once again register GSM network and use the phone.
Thank you
Sorted.

same happened to me after messing with network setting, SIM 1 now stuck on LTE mode only which has limited coverage in some areas. SIM 2 is working fine.
I read somewhere that if you downgrade to Marshmallow, it might solve your problem.
I don't know what to do :crying::crying::crying:
