I need to backup the whole system of my 9505.
Then you'll need to root and flash a recovery like ClockworkMod or TWRP. You can backup the entire system through those.

Should have think of this (slapped forehead). Use PhiliZ recovery to do the job. Thanks guys for all the info given.

Hello! I have TWRP installed on my device without root or custom rom/kernel. Is there a way I can just flash the stock recovery to get future OTA updates? I prefer using a method that doesnt require admin rights on my pc, because I am not using my own pc for the moment.
You can get the factory image, extract ALL the zips and when you find the recovery image do "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img".

That's the problem. Efrant says you have to use 7zip and not any other thing to extract the image, but I cant install it because I dont have admin rights on this pc.
You can use Flashify from Play Store to flash recovery images without PC.

I downloaded the factory image myself, but you can give it to me as well so I know I did it correctly. Why actually do you have to use 7zip?
Edit: nope I cant extract it myself

Yeah, it totally worked. Also locked bootloader using BootUnlocker app.
Got some piece of mind and I also hope this will ease up my ORD a bit
I may easily restore my backed up custom recovery using flashify if I ever need to update ROM or whatever...

Thanks! It's the one for 4.3 right?
And if I want to install a custom rom, and make a twrp backup. Can I then go back to restore the backup and then just flash this recovery in fastboot to get the OTA?

Yes, yes and yes.
You can use Flashify to make a backup, restore and flash.
Remember you can only flash 3 times a day unless you pay for the full version.

No I mean making a backup in twrp, install a custom rom. New version of android comes out: (let's say 5.0 because updating CM for example from 4.3. to 4.3.1 isnt that hard I think), just restore the backup and flash this recovery in fastboot. (without flashify)
Then I will get the OTA?

Ok thanks (I ran out of thanks for today)
I think I am going to stay with this TWRP for a while (actually I want CM official nightlies back) and will try this method when KLP comes out. I think I will have my pc back then and will be able to pull the recovery of the image then and I will post if it worked or not!
thank you for your effort mate!

I decided to flash the stock recovery anyway. So now I am fully stock and will get future OTA updates? I actually like the stock rom, but will maybe fllash CM10.2 if nemesis comes with some cool stuff.
Thanks for pulling it for me!

You can either use EFS pro or Custom Recovery ie: Philz/TWRP .Have a nice day.
Hi guys.
Question... Some custom roms require you to be rooted to then install a recovery to then backup your efs partition. Is this true? I think I've flashed twrp, then backed up everything I wanted too (not rooted) then just flashed a custom rom. All to lost are rooted anyway and the root part as far as I know is in the system. So does it matter if you root before recovery? Or can I just flash twrp, backup efs, then flash say xnote?
Thanks in advance!!

Yes, as most custom roms are pre-rooted you can just nandroid backup and EFS and after that flash the rom. You will not be able to restore apps with Titanium Backup as TB requires root. If you have a TB backup on your computer stored you can restore user apps and data after the flash.
Thanks gee2012.
The only benefit to rooting before recovery flash is to use like you said TB to backup your stuff?
It doesn't bear any difference when flashing the recovery does it?
On this, one other thing, there's no known way of flashing twrp without tripping Knox is there?

Nope, all KK roms (i think from MJ4 and up) trip the KNOX warranty void, no workaround so far. TB backsup and restores user apps and data while the nandroid backup does the whole rom (user and system data).
Spose I could backup then restore in the custom rom from TB from nandroid backup couldn't I? TB had that functionality last time I used it I think.
Is the latest version 2.7 of twrp? Or would you recommend CWM at the moment?
Thank again mate, this is all very helpful. Feel like a noob with all this Knox crap, I've been flashing for years but, I always make sure I know what I'm getting into before I do.
Just found out too, if I rooted in 4.3, I could if kept root to 4.4.2 then used mobile Odin to flash roms haha. And kept Knox from tripping... Oh hang on, a custom kernel would probably tripped it anyway...

For me it seems CWM is more stable atm then TWRP. Try Philz Touch CWM or Chenglu CWM and keep the one you like most. Flash the downloaded .tar files with Odin 3.07.
Thanks mate. Oh well, here we go, tripping Knox!! Haha.
Might go for CWM then.
Thanks again.

Make sure to disable Kies in windows task manager before you use Odin, it might interfere and faill the operation and enable usb debugging on the phone and uncheck reactivation lock in security.
Look here to backup and restore EFS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447342.
i have flashed the phone without backup of the efs partition ,now i am having no service ie no gsm network. can anyone provide me the files-
efs.img.ext4
nvrebuild1.bin
nvrebuild2.bin
I am in the same situation...
You guys can't use the Backup of another Device, it's unique 4 every Phone. You'll only get trouble by restoring another ones Backup.
Try it that way...

Question, since this file was in the generic SGN3 Section, will this work with the T-mobile Version, Sm-N900t, running 4.4.2 (1st release).?
And second,
Can I flash it with Safestrap? Or Stock Recovery? (Rename or similar), or Must it be with CWM?
Thanks in advance.
Be well

So the file linked above, "Brick Loop fixed after restoring Backup" will ONLY, work with the N9005, Correct?
I have the N900T, same problem however.
Ideas, or similar files to flash that may help me solve my problem? (Imei Unknown / 00) I have the correct baseband. Running 4.4.2 / NB4
Thanks
I had edited my build.prop file in /system and now phone is stuck. I have stock nc1 with root. I can get to download mode or stock recovery. Is there any way to adb sideload a proper build.prop file? or is there a way to flash from sd card?
Do you have safestrap and did you make a backup before changing the build.prop? If so just restore it. If not Odin is going to be your friend.
