So I bought a Nexus S yesterday, earlier today I noticed a co worker of mine had a Nexus 1, I know of them, I mean I've seen them but I never actually held one; I was blown away by the build quality and the trackball is awesome as well. After playing with his phone I started hitting up craigslist to see if I could find one and was seriously considering returning my Nexus S.
I think I'm gonna keep the Nexus S after all but god damn, I'm just shocked that the Nexus S is the Nexus S, I mean, you would think that after the Nexus 1, the phone replacing it would at least have that same style of build quality. oh well, I still like the NS non the less.
I'm sure you can understand why so many of us chose not to upgrade, eh? The Nexus S is a nice handset if you didn't already have a Nexus One...it just isn't a big enough step up for us though.

though, I personally, am very flattered
Nexus s is great. You get a better touch sensor and a faster gpu.
I played with one in store. I have my N1 running the latest CM7 gingerbread. So I setup my desktop matching the NS.
The screen is a Tad nicer but overall I didn't see much to warrant my dough.

haha no sucking up here, just gotta pay respect when its due; I mean lets be honest, the Nexus S IS better than the Nexus One, even if the specs are slightly better, with its slightly better screen, higher quality screen, front facing camera, etc. etc. the only thing I feel the S falls short on is the build quality, its nothing bad but its like with the iPhone, I liked the build quality better on the first gen iphone then the 3G or 3GS.
Unless Palm announces something crazy (Palm fanboy here) I'll probably just stick with the Nexus S, I also have a Droid Pro so I think I should be set for a while.

Now you see why many of us love the nexus one so much! CPU and specs aside, the nexus one hardware, build quality, color track ball for any notification you want, materials, size and package, its unmatched even by any current phone out there today! This phone is literally a work of art.
Throw in the car dock and desk dock, it can't be beat. Damn I wish Google went with HTC for the next nexus phone.

I know it just blows my mind that th folks at Google carried around an HTC N1 for almost a year and then decided that the Nexus S made by Samsung was the way to go...it really does blow my mind every time I think about it. Who in their right mind would make that choice?? I'm still bitter about it...feel as if I was robbed out of an upgrade. Forced to make a choice of crappy build quality with better internals or stick with older internals with better build quality. I'd still like to know what asshole at Google made us face that choice.

It make sense to me at least for Google to keep its various manufacturers happy by spreading the Nexus love. I guess we will have to see who the next Nexus is made by: Motorola? LG?

I hadn't thought about it in awhile and it kinda hit me again there reading this thread.
I can understand wanting to spread the manufacturer love but Google should have told Samsung that if they wanted the Nexus "2", then they could have it, PROVIDED they built it nicer than their usual crap. Google should have kept a higher standard for the Nexus line and they let Samsung kinda cheapen it in my book.
It's one thing to spread the love and it's another to tell Samsung here are the internals we want and oh you can wrap those internals in whatever you want. I almost think us users are prouder of the N1 than Google, who seemed to give up on it like a step child when it didn't sell as well as they would have liked. Hell we users BEGGED Google to advertise the damn thing....but no, they run a search ad during the Super Bowl LESS THAN A MONTH after the Nexus launched...what kind of sense did that make?? Like Google needed a search ad during the Super Bowl...everyone already uses Google search for god's sake!!!
What is up with Samsung and plastic? I know that they have one phone made of metal, but plastic gets so fingerprint prone.

I hope it is by Motorola, providing that they don't have a locked bootloader. They actually put dual noise canceling mics on their phone (Droid X), which is probably one of the most important thing on a smartphone.

I think that samsung phones build quality is in general cheap, but lets be honest, they can make phones with nice specs, and then there's those qualcomm chipsets that HTC put in the their phones, they're just awful, which kinda makes you consider buying samsung phones.
This is the exact reason I'm still using my N1 - normally I upgrade as soon as the next best phone is out, but the Nexus is just perfect. The build quality is amazing compared to any samsung phones.
And seriously, I'd miss the trackball too much.
With that said, I have a Galaxy Tab - and think thats great, but I don't carry that with me every day so the cheap plastic doesnt annoy me as much

The snapdragon, even first gen, is not too shabby at all, and it beats the hummingbird in a lot of CPU tests. The advantage of hummingbird is the graphics. In fact, I think the nexus one was better at scrolling smoothly over the nexus s in most cases because graphics was not yet enabled on the S. CPU vs CPU the snapdragon seemed to out perform it imo.

Well, to be honest I never used a the nexus s, here in Brasil is too expensive to get new devices, I used only the galaxy s, which I think is basically the same device, only in a different housing, and it was pretty fast. I used a Nexus One too, but obviously the roms were different (even though both were using cooked froyo roms) and I know experience may vary, but the galaxy s seemed much faster.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you about that MotoNexus crap. Only US of A can be happy with Motorola customer service and update policy... Ever heared of the Milestone? Yeah, Droid with GSM... Today it can only run stock 2.1 krenel because of MotoPLCY and locked bootloader. Rest of the world is so fcuking tired of hearing their craptalk that they would never buy a Moto device again! Well, Nexus phones are not ONLY American phones.
Also I actually don't like the idea of releasing Nexus devices by different manufacturer each year.. It just doesn't make sense for me. Google is a company not different from others, they count each dollar when it comes to spending money. N1 was a good compromise between cheap and technically good, htc made it that way as they did with desire. So... What's the point? Even if Mofofaila would bulid another Nexus (NX? They seem to like that letter) what would be nest? LG? ok, and then?
P.S. If anything what i wrote is unclear, tell me. It can happen, because english is not my native langueage
EDIT: BUT I agree about those dual mics. They do make a difference for me too!
+1 for dual mics
The call sound quality on the N1 and the Droid X are what attracted me to those two phones. In my opinion, it's a MUST HAVE feature and the single biggest reason I haven't bought a Nexus S.

Hmm the ad isn't very good. Which is the other phone? How exactly does the Lumia beat it? And honestly I don't think humiliating owners of other phones is a good way of perusading them to switch. I know Samsung pokes at Apple in its ads but in a much lighter way.
Nokia can say all they want but the company its a sinking ship as we all know it. Their stock fall 19% after the release of highly anticipated Lumia 900. lol
Personally, I dont think Lumia 900 is competing with SGN as it has much lower spec. It is aiming less technical crowd who cant afford iphone. WP maybe fast at doing specific function, but I doubt it is going to matter until they have a fully developed App store. Unfortunately, it may not happen at all since we already have Andiod and ios. All Apple has to do is pricing previous generation iphone at a discount or introduce a lower model. In reality, it so much easy to tweak os and make certain task fast than building a fully developed App market. That is why MS is offering up to $60k for dev who is interested in WP app.
I went to two "smoked by windows" event in US. Most of ppl who attend dont give a @ss about either Nokia or WP, they all their for the free phone so they can put it ebay. WP maybe fast at doing specific function, but I doubt it is going to matter until they have a fully developed App store. Unfortunately, it may not happen at all since we already have Andiod and ios.
Samsung has no right to whine about this when they did the same to apple with "you're a barista" commercial
plus if they have balls then let them officially acknowledge the fact that many gnotes have problems such as banding, clipping, color shifting, etc
even Sony confirmed that their experia s had display problems and that customers can get their devices replaced..
btw Nokia even gave customers a $100 rebate for a software bug with lumia 900!!
now sony and Nokia were decent enough to accept the fact while Samsung remains silent even though they are aware of the issues

Nokia has many followers in Africa/India and some other middle countries. I think they might do well there but they are loosing grounds in Europe and they still have to make a name in the US.
Android still rocks and I definitely don't think anything will change. Once you use a windows phone and then compare it to the ease of your's friend/relative's Android phone, I don't think you'll make the same mistake twice for your next phone!
Nokia will definitely rock the phone world with their 41mp camera Nokia 808 PureView. This is the device many people are eagerly waiting down the corner and there could be a shift in the trend soon with that beast......
Time to change.........the girlfriend !!!! not the phone. Android is by far a better ecosystem than IOS or Windows.
Such a dumb video clip. lol!!!
I wouldn't say that posting to facebook is grounds for blowing anything away.
Ha Ha, Wallies.
I have owned a Nokia since the 2110i and I strongly supported Nokia untill recently. When Nokia decided to use Windows Mobile as their OS, I decided to vote with my money. I switched to Samsung and I am very pleased with this. It doesn't matter what Nokia or Apple or any one else for that matter does. You as the consumer have the control. Hurt them where it hurts most. Don't support them and don't buy their products, and tell everyone that you come in to contact with. I also don't buy Sony products for their beligerant attitude and monopoly.

I think its funny how all the manufacturers slate each other, its just good advertising. I wonder if you can go into the shop and ask the windows phone to beat your test against your phone. Like play a hd video on the screen in its actual resolution 1280 x 720 p, oh wait. Or play street fighter ex plus alpha on you 50 inch tv using a ps3 controller using the phone oh wait! All phones have there strengths and weaknesses but I sooner have a phone that can do all the functions than do a select few really fast.
According to latest financial news reports, within next 7 quarters ,nokias cash reserves will be over and Nokia would be blown away from the face of earth!
they've already got the first blow as bloomberg announces Samsung, may have shipped 92 million mobile phones, surpassing Nokia’s 83 million units for the first three months of 2012;the 9-million gap ending Nokia’s 14-year reign as the largest global mobile phone maker.

I recently got hooked up with the T-Mobile Nokia Lumia 521 and I am very impressed. I am really liking Windows Phone 8, I never thought I would. It's fresh, clean, modern, no wonder Apple is rumored to be taking some of it's feature and bring them to iOS 7. I think the Lumia 521 is a steal at $129, you get 4G, Windows Phone 8, no contract, and while I know the build of higher-end Lumia's are nothing close to the Lumia 521, I am living it. Wanted to share my first impressions, wtc.. not trying to promote myself, lol, if I'm not supposed to post links let me know and I'll remove it.

Nice review. Only criticisms I can think of are a typo right at the beginning and you talked about WP8 on the whole about as much as you talked about the phone you were reviewing. It felt like an OS review AND a phone review. Dunno if that's a bad thing but it stuck out to me.
Wish that phone wasn't sold out everywhere though. Freakin great deal for a decent smartphone.

You are 100% right, it's a GREAT deal for a decent smartphone. It's making me want a higher end Lumia now though, lol. I also wish there were more popular apps. One of my favorite iOS and Android apps I use is the free Pocket app. I've been "trying" Read Later. Hopefully more popular cross platform apps make their way to Windows Phone. I currently have an iPhone 5 on Verizon and think the Lumia 521 is a great spare phone, especially since i miss being able to use unlocked phones now and switching sim cards.
Good review.
I managed to obtain one of these from my local Wal-Mart. It's a really good deal, if not the screaming bargain a lot of people are saying. They cut costs and features intelligently.
Mostly, I like the sturdy design and the way it fits together. I don't think I'll even get a proper case for it, although I might look around for a simple sleeve.
I used an X-acto knife and cut down one of my SIMs (I have three prepaid accts.) to micro-sim size. The result was so-so and I had to fidget with the SIM position (powered off, then retry) several times to make it to work. I wised-up and paid a local vendor to punch out my 'main' SIM. That one works much better ...word to the wise.
Windows Phone 8 is mostly good. Feels a bit unfinished. Task-management is weird. Built-in music player is odd; if I can figure out a good choice I'll pay for an alternative. Live tiles don't always update in a timely fashion. That might be the app developers fault.

just got one
Hi guys. I am coming from a gNex with JB- running flapps unofficial and a Note i717 running Avatar 4.2.2 with a UCMD3 baseband. Both of these were not tmobile phones and I run a t-mobile sim on the $30/100min monthly 4g. I usually switch of phones depending what size I want to carry.
When tmobile got the iphone 5 I was tempted to give apple another chance, but then rumors were abundant for the 5s or the 6 coming out soon. Plus I don't want to go on contract- yes, even the no contract is sort of a contract- unofficially till you pay off the phone. So I held off.
Then I saw this lumia windows 521 and I just got a windows 8 touch screen computer. So for Walmarts price, I bought one. I have been playing with it on Ptel for 2 days, and have just punched my tmo sim and put that in. Just ran a speedtest. Blew me away. 18-20 mbps down, and 3-5 up. Wow. That doubles my best on the Note.
I was looking for a smaller phone but with the 4 inch screen. This is working out pretty well. It's about the size of an iphone 3gs with a bigger screen. I am sorting out windows phone 8. Totally different from iOS and android which I have been using steadily for 2 years.
I think the build quality is fine.
Pros
1.Screen is very clear and bright and responsive. I turned the response to low and it still works great. - the font can be made large enough read
texts and emails easily. I love the large screens but not the large phones. Nice compromise.
2. fits well with a good weight in the hand
3. the cover is easily removed and replaced with a replaceable battery and an sd card slot for up to 64 gb
4. I haven't found it lacking for apps that I need- For android I have so much junk on my phone it's nice to only have good ones.
5. My google contacts easily copied as well as my google calendar appts. But the included calendar is so small on the month view it is difficult to read them. Daily is just fine though.
6. Battery life seems incredible. It's down to 79% after 24 hours of use. With data on. Very little use though.
Cons
1. You can add rings tones for calls, but not for sms and notifications. Don't know about alarms yet.
2. Can't put apps on sd card- just internal 8gb worth of space. They did come out with " lumia storage check" app which allows you to put maps on the sd card.
That's as far as I got with the cons. I will use for a couple days and edit.

Contract or non? How much compared to the 521? 521 was $130 off contract- compatible with any carrier.

Samsung Ativ S is around 300-350 off amazon or ebay (t899m) which supports TMO LTE. I have both the 521 and the Ativ. The 521 is nice but the screen is all but unreadable outside in the daylight. I prefer the amoled sammy screen at 720x1280 as well and the 1.5 dual core/16 gb ram. (and it supports microsd cards). about twice the price of the 521 but for what I got it was worth it - 521 is a great windows phone for the price though! You can probably pick up an 810 off ebay for close to the price if not a little over - which has a much better screen and processor.
1GB of RAM, 16GB of Flash. These are not the same thing; don't confuse them. With that said, it is relevant that the ATIV S has 2x the RAM of the Lumia 521.

It's relevant the Ativ S has 2x the ram because some apps and games won't run on 512mb RAM devices.
I just ordered one from HSN yesterday for $99. I love my galaxy note 2, but I have really been wanting to try a Win 8 device to see if I could use it as a daily driver, as I am very linked into the android eco system. For $99 and all of the good things I have heard about this phone I am excited to try it for a while. Worse comes to worse I have a nice back up phone or one for my son.

RAM Doesn't mean anything on WP. You'll get the same experience as a 1020 or 925 on a 520/521
I've had this phone for 2 months and really love it. $99 hsn was a great deal. Jealous of that. I paid $130 with no accessories. Enjoy.
My most used feature is sms, mms, and the navigation feature. That is really great. And the phone of course! I was thinking before I got the 521 of trying the iphone5 for a smaller screen and good user experience. Sometimes android just flakes out on my Note, and when I really needed it twice, it was not usable. Could be due to all the hacking I have done on it though. But considering the cost of the iphone5 and the 521- the 521 won and was a great choice for a smaller phone. It's even smaller than my galaxy nexus. And I enjoyed learning the new windows phone 8.
I love android, but when win phone 8 matures it will give android a run for it's money!
This is my first Windows Phone and speaking mostly for the OS, I think Microsoft did a kickass job. Smooth as butter, and I don't miss multitasking 20 apps in the background. The speaker of the phone sometimes goes incommunicado, but everything else works just fine. Don't miss the $600 tag of an iPhone either
@jeg815 Thanks for the review and getting this thread going. Had my Lumia 928 since release date and love it. So sick of all the negative reviews and "stats" about how far behind Microsoft is in the mobile game. So what if it's locked down and we don't get "official" apps. That just makes our developers more creative and dare I say special. Have you seen some of the work these guys do? Amazing!!! In my opinion not only is the OS great but it's beautiful to look at. Thanks again!!!

Exactly! People forget that Android used to be in the same boat with the lack of apps.
Android was ugly with a capital U back in its early days. Atleast windows phone is nice to look at and smooth as silk. The apps will come with time.

Hey guys,
I am thinking about getting a Nexus 4 to replace my HTC Sensation. The Sensation has many problems such as huge battery drain and it gets extremely hot during usage. So I thought the Nexus 4 would be a great idea. Pure Android (huge fan of that, was using CM for a long time on my Senny) and Google Support sound good and the price seems to be okay to (I could buy a 16GB variant for about 310€).
Is this phone great? Is it still worth buying considering it's already nearly a year old? Does it have some know problems such as huge battery drain or display problems?
I need this phone for browsing, using the calendar, writing emails/sms and sometimes taking photos. I don't play any games on it except 4 pictures 1 word.
Thanks in advance!
I too came from a Sensation, and it's a fine upgrade, for all the reasons you mention. Perhaps not as durable as HTC's build quality, so be sure to include a decent cover (I use the Diztronic TPU and it looks factory) to protect that beautiful glass. It's a joy to use..you can't go wrong. Cheers!
I just got one a couple days ago. I'm really liking it. Great jump from a galaxy s2

I came from a galaxy s2, and previously HOX tegra. I bought a N4 2 weeks ago, and in stock its pretty smooth, awesome i'd say. Better price/performance choice. You wont regret

I bought a Nex4 about 6 weeks ago after being a long term BB user, our company provide BB but have just let us go BYOD. I got N4 to replace the BB and so far it hasn't disappointed in any way. I also wanted the pure Android experience after my N10. The phone has been a good choice.

Honestly, if that is all you use your phone for, you should get the Lumia 1020. But if you want to stay with Android and can wait 4 more months, the 5th Nexus will be out then and should the price be as low as the Nexus4, then it would be better to get that.

The Lumia 1020 would be out of the price range. I'd never pay 400€+ for a phone I only use for work. I probably can't wait till the next release because the Senny really bugs me. I can't use a phone which burns in my hand because it's getting extremely hot while chewing through battery like nothing. My Sensation barely gets through the day with moderate use.
€: And I don't like WP because I'm a huge fan of costumization.
Keep the Sensation or whatever you have and wait for Nexus 5, trust me on this.

I can't sincerely tell someone to purchase a 7 month old device when knowing a faster device will come for the same price in due time.
Well you can go on buying Nexus 4, everything is a beauty when you compare prices and then it is a google phone so it always have it perks.
If you think you should wait for nexus 5 then its not very much pretty soon bcz this time google launched s4 and htc one as google variant which means next nexus will take time.
Your tasks which u need to perform as you have mentioned would all be performed very well.
Tip I can give even for better battery.
Unlock the bootloader, use custom recovery such as CWM and flash CM 10.1 stable releases which ever is latest.
Find franco kernel and flash that and for better colours use its colour profile.
You will have an outstanding experiance with great display and great battery time.
Best of luck.
NOTE. All decision is urs what ever suits you best.

People will and should buy the device that suits their needs and the price they are willing to pay.
If you want a unlocked / contract free phone the device is a good choice
The entire motion that a new device will be out in a couple months is pointless. He wants a phone now. A couple months is just that. A couple months living with a phone he doesn't want. Then when the next nexus device comes out there will be the next best thing on the horizon.
He a is a basic user that doesn't participate in the stupid I need the lastest and greatest hw spec race.
Sitting around waiting for 4 plus months for a device is just stupid.
Why buy a HTC one now? The plus version is coming? Why by a s4 now? The advanced or whatever version with the 800 is coming in a couple of months.

To each their own, I cannot speak for the needs of TC nor their personal interests. Whether he's comfortable with waiting X months is currently unknown and has not been divulged in this topic, so we can agree to disagree.
He said he probably can't wait for the next release because his phone bugs him.
Even a device like the HTC first would suit him fine hardware and software wise. Not unlocked and cheap of course ( don't even think it launched outside the US or unlocked) but just talking the device itself
There are plenty of users who are not concerned with the I can read the spec sheet pissing matches. Wait for the latest and greatest chip so they can have a higher score in benchmarks etc.
Its definitely still worth buying full price. Its a great device especially if you're a fan of stock android like you said.
Happy phoning.
I really don't need high specs. Benchmarks never intersted me because at the end you probably won't feel any difference between for example the snapdragon 600 and the snapdragon 800 in everyday use. I just want the phone to work well without stuttering and without any hick ups.

If you need a phone now, just go for it. If you are not in a hurry, you can wait and see what comes up. IMO I usually don't want the first batch of the phone anyway since they are usually the ones with problems.
just buy it
I highly recommend nexus 4.. Believe me it's as smooth as HTC one out even better..
Root and flash cyanogenmod and Franco kernel... That made me a delighted user from a happy user...
Besides it'll have developer support for hell lot of a time to come... Even after people forget about HTC one and s4..
:good::good:
I'm going to buy it at the end of August and I think it is still worth it. However reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2259334 scaried me!
Hey dudes,
yesterday we have seen the new Android 7.1 Nugat on the new Pixel Smartphones. Whitch features will come to the Nexus Device? Will we only have the new Google Assistent? Or could we get the new Fingerprint Sensor Controlls and Nightshift?
I hope we will see some features for our Nexus Devices. Nexus 5X and 6P are quite good Devices and I hope Google don´t forget this.
Chris.K
According to Android Police, we're supposed to be getting fingerprint gestures in 7.1 alongside Pixel phones.

Google is laughting at nexus users. Enjoy the Developer preview nexus program to only improve and update the pixels.
I feel Google have walked out the door and slammed it in our faces a little.
Nexus is the red headed stepchild now, pixel is the darling child with a pony.
Give pixel users the support, services bonuses (photos etc) and hardware specific things but Nexus users should get all the software benefits the same inc assistant, launcher buttons and so on and timely updates. We understand they've moved on but a lot of their customers that chose Nexus specifically are still locked into a contract for another 1-2 years and so will be left pining for their attention.
Waiting for an unspecified time in the next 3 months for a developer preview of something the pixel phones have is not a good view of the future.
The Nexus Line won't get the Google Assistent!
Here is a new leak From Android Police.

I am sure this is different for everyone, but the "exclusive" ones I would care about are Smart Storage, Hardware HDR+, and EIS (you can get EIS via customization on current 5x but it is nice to have it supported and easily enabled)

I hope someone will Port the Pixel Rom to Nexus 5X/Nexus 6P.
You know, for the longest time I have been thinking that iPhone loyalists were some of the most jaded people on the planet. Then Google came and pulled this out and now I KNOW that Nexus fanboys are right there in that same category. Bunch of whiny babies. They killed the Nexus line because it's purpose has run it's course. They release a NEW line of devices that's aimed at the mass market of consumers (like Samsung, iPhone, HTC, LG, etc. owners) and everyone loses their minds because their favorite toy has come to an end. The Pixel line is an EVOLUTION of the Nexus line, not just a replacement. It's been what they've been building towards since the OG Nexus One. Of course you're not gonna get the same features.
Then everybody wants to ***** about being "left behind" with these updates. When you buy a Nexus, you're guarenteed OS support for up to two years. Guess what? You're STILL getting updates for up to two years. So what, you're salty that you're no longer getting the update first? Too bad. The game changed with the Pixel devices, so get used to it. It's the SUCCESSOR to the Nexus line. If you don't like it, jump ship. You won't be missed. And Google isn't going to lose money over it.

I'm just hoping that Pixel Launcher will be available. Space for photos would be nice as well, but besides that i'm gonna be just fine. XD
Pixel Launcher is available. The Round Icons come with Android 7.1. I'm just hoping, that we will get the Google Assistant.
"Pixel Launcher is available." Well.. Yes and no. I mean officially like Google Now Launcher
I just buy this mobile phone for 2 weeks ago. I was so thrilled for gesture of finger print and now? Oh my god,
Previous year i bought lg g3 i was like little kid: "omg nice phone oh Lg is great company i will get a new feature in next version of android nice " i says in my mind, but no Qualcomm says we couldn't developed drivers for snapdragon 801 for android 7.0 and gues what? That Why I buy nexus phone. For Next time maybe i will by iphone one, im not fan of apple but what about theirs support? All iphone from iphone 5 since iphone 7 get ios10.0 with same features.... Sorry about that im writing about apple. And sorry for my English im not good in languages.
EDIT: When i was bought nexus I don't knew about pixel phone, maybe its my bad luck
Pixel Launcher, Google Assistant, unlimited photo/vídeo backup and smart storage. Why make this exclusive features to Pixel Phones? These things are possible to put in any phone, hardware limitations are not the problem in this case. If they do this to sell Pixels, what a big failure? I wouldn't buy a phone for this features. Hope they revert their stupid decision and add it to Nexus phones.

I understand the brand building and making Pixel unique with added value. What I don't understand is abandoning the Nexus line. And abandoning the developer phone concept.
It's like they abandon the developer community in sone way.
People here contributed the google experience through android with many-many ideas. Also many developers use nexus devices to test their product at the first place.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think there opens a gap that needs to be filled.

Looks like we WILL be getting the fingerprint gestures for the notification shade!
https://www.engadget.com/2016/10/07/the-pixels-release-doesn-t-mean-your-nexus-is-completely-toast/
"The update will also enable Moves: an opt-in gesture-based feature that will open or close the notifications slider."

Locked into what contract? That is a consumer decision, not a Google one.
I didn't get my Nexus from a carrier, no contract, paid for it up front. Works just fine on the same carrier of the phone I replaced it with still sitting in a box as a backup emergency phone.
If I want to spend $649+ for a new phone in a few weeks, then I just get it.
That is a lot of money though... right now everything is on hold as the status of root is, but that is a different decision and issue.
Why is that Googles issue? If people can't afford it, they won't buy it.

I think that he meant plan-wise. I'm still locked to my contract too, but I bought my N5X straight up when it was released last year.

Sit down Terrance - I just bought another 5x 3 weeks ago and the ad didnt say "support for 2 years" it said "get the latest and greatest first"
Instead what I am going to get is akin to a Samsung Galaxy product with a to be determined watered down version at some point in the future. The Pixel and Pixel Xl aren't successors, they are 5X+ and 6P+ in a new body with software the only defining feature of mention and the doubling of the price, that's the very definition of a screwing
Nice try with the "run it's course" - the pixel phones serve the exact same purpose as the nexus phones - to highlight android or presumably the soon to be ultimate fckfest, andromeda, which will probably burn the pixel owners, assuming those phones even last that long or it's just Moto Gooogle phone v2
