2.3.3 r00t discussion

Hey everybody! I went to stock from CyanogenMod Nightlyes, and flashed stock 2.3.2 nandroid.
Then I flashed the 2.3.3, it works just fine! But my bootloader is still unlocked!
First thing that i thank was just to install Superuser, but it doesen't work.
I connected it to Pc in fastboot mod, and ran install-superboot-windows.bat (one click root)
But now, it just stuck in Google logo, and I don't know what to do next... I tryed to pull out the battery, nothing...
Update: just reflashed recovery via fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, and got the CWM. Now restoring to 2.3.2.
I think that we can just flash CWM after update, and then install superuser. I'll try and will ask you about any changes.
Update 2:: So, it ran just fine, first installed 2.3.2, then updated it to 2.3.3, and then flashed CWM. It boots up just fine, but in CWM I tried to install superuser.zip, it says: invalid to install

maybe reinstall your backup from CWM?
also the one click root you need to be in a rom and using adb

I did the same thing and ended up in the same situation...ive fixed like this...downloaded odin got back to stock 2.3.1 then downloaded the update,flashed it through stock recovery then flashed recovery.img....flashed su and everything is back on normal now

If you unlock already, it is very easy to root again
1. fastboot boot recovery.img
2. flash su.zip
3. reboot
all done

Yeah, but it says, that it can't install superuser.zip (bad) I don't know what it means..

2.3.3 root question
Ok so currently I'm rooted on stock 2.3.2
How do I update to 2.3.3 and
1. not lose root
2. not have to reinstall all user apps
3. not have to redo all my settings
Is there a way to do this?

I have a question is there a way to make the phone as if it was never messed about with, just incase it was ever needed to get repaired under the warrenty

Try this..
From Android 2.3.2 /rooted/locked bootloader
1) Fastboot boot recovery.img..to boot into recovery CW recovery screen
2) Apply 2.3.3 update.zip ..
=>Do not reboot ,as this 2.3.3 has Bootloader change that disable fastboot boot for locked bootloader.
3) Without rebooting , mount system, apply su.zip
4) Reboot..

I manage to keep the root for 2.3.3 with the flashing sequence listed below.
From Android 2.3.2 /rooted/locked bootloader
1) Fastboot boot recovery.img..to boot into recovery CW recovery screen
2) Apply 2.3.3 update.zip ..
=>After applying update DO NOT REBOOT ,as this 2.3.3 has Bootloader change that disable fastboot boot for locked bootloader.
3) Without rebooting , mount system, apply su.zip
=> This step is to reapply Superuser.apk permission setting
4) Reboot..
I am highlighting the concept, for details inter steps..please refer to the first post on the link.

is there a method to root 2.3.3 or is it to early i tried allgamer way but it failed

Or you can simply restore 2.3.3 its in the development forum. It had root already on it

Yes, I know it'll wipe my device, but is that the only thing? I can just use Titanium Backup and restore everything anyway right?
Are there advantages/disadvantages to the locked bootloader? I never bothered just because I was just learning how to root and picked a method almost at random.

If I were currently locked bootloader, I would run a full titanium backup of apps+data, and copy over your entire sdcard contents to your pc, along with the titanium backups (remember, the oem unlock wipes the sdcard also, not just internal space).
Then unlock the bootloader. Easiest way to deal with custom recovery in the future.
There are steps in the 2.3.3 link thread here describing how you can update and get root back even with the locked bootloader; which might be less of a hassle then going through a wipe.

I'm having the same issue. Any idea how to fix this?

Just load the Nandroid as charlieb620 said. If your already on 2.3.3 you won't lose nowt, just backup your data first.

I'd like to install PA. So do I need to root it first?
Also I have already installed some apps, I'd like to do backup before factory reset. What is the easiest way for this?

Firstly Install carbon backup app (like titanium backup) from the play store to backup your app and app data. It is good because you don't need to root your device in order to backup.
However in order to root, you need to unlock the bootloader which will delete everything from your phone. After that it is easy to root your phone using the guides in the forum. I suggest you don't use toolkit if you want to learn how everything works.
Only after rooting, you can install PA.

You don't need to root. Open boot loader, install custom recovery preferably twrp and you can install the zip files you need. Roms come rooted by default you don't need to worry about that.

Thanks moles. I didn't know that you didn't need to be rooted to your roms. I guess you learn something new everyday. Btw I love your PA roms. This is my first android device and PA is the only ROM I've ever flash. Keep the good work.

[Q] gs4 losses root.

Hello.
Im looking to get some help with an issue i have on my gs4 att, stock + root.
My device keeps loosing root access after a while.
I have unrooted and flashed stock 4 times, but i cant figure out the problem and cant find any information on the fourms.

Here I did it before and I never got a message says root access has been lost.
1. Odin it back
2. Root by using causal method
3. When phone reboot itself into recovery TWRP
4. Don't back up just reboot into welcome screen
5. It should ask you to install superuser, just install it
6. Finally, reboot into recovery and make nandroid back up.
On step four, I back up by using nandroid before superuser install. When I change rom, message always telling me I have lost root access quite often this way.

thats usually what i do, i tried 4 times. It doesnt ask me to install su, its already installed.
i might just have to update and wait for new root method.

Download a superuser/supersu zip file and flash it through your twrp/cwm recovery and reboot.when I first rooted my I337 ATT S4
It would loose just as I would enter recovery and my recovery would ask if I wanted to fix it before rebooting. After flashing the supersu zip file
I have had zero issues with root.

LG G2- Making a Backup, and flashing a new ROM

Bought the Verizon G2, brought it home, rooted it. So basically I have nothing but Super Su and a crap ton of bloatware haha! Any threads showing me how to make a backup of what I have now, then a tutorial on how to flash a new ROM? I just wanna be safe having a backup recovery of the phone basically all stock with root acess.

You need to Loki first to get TWRP, check the Verizon sub for details. Once you do that you can make a back up of your current phone. Once compete, you can wipe data and flash a new Rom safely. Fyi, the flash takes a long time, just wait it out.

I don't know what LOKI is, but if you're rooted then chose a recovery (twrp or cwm), install it, and then do a nandroid backup. Then you can flash whatever ROM or mod you want.

Pretty sure you don't need Loki...that's for devs only. TWRP is already pre-lokied for your convenience.

[Q] Getting Lollipop on rooted Nexus 4 with custom recovery - guide for fools?

I want Lollipop and my Nexus 4 won't shut up about the OTA update. Naturally, it failed, and i have since tried to find a fool-proof guide to uptade it WITHOUT LOOSING DATA. Not been so lucky. Theres talk about fastbooting (?) and going back to stock, but not much in the way of step-by-step guides. I think most people with nexus 4 and root are like me - did it because it was easy, not knowing a lot about it...
I have rooted with towelroot, installed TWRP custom recovery with flashify, unlocked bootlocker with Bootunlock, installed Xposed framework and SuperSU. Never used ADB or any commands. Can't be the only one in this exact situation
What excactly do i need to do to get Lollipop without loosing any data (like a regular OTA update)?

Maybe user Titanium Backup or some kinda backup software to backup files and stuff then just go for a fresh installation? Most of the basic settings should be saved to your google account.

Thanks for the quick reply! But i was hoping for a solution that DIDN'T wipe my phone. I just wanna undo all the rooting business, so i can do the OTA...

Follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/how-to-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2010312.
there are a few things to note:
1. You do not need to unlock the bootloader, you will have done that when you rooted
2. Download the 5.0 image instead of the original stock image when you do this.
3. DO NOT flash userdata.img. That will wipe your data.
Those are the steps I followed to flash over to 5.0 without losing data.
But I would absolutely do a backup anyway, just in case something goes wrong.

Ok, cool. So you're saying to towel-root my device, unlock bootloader with bootunlocker app, remove root by installing SuperSU and using the clean-up funtion. And then adb fastboot flash boot/recovery/system from the FACTORY img? Why not sideload the OTA instead? Because it wont work unless i reflash stock 4.4.4 completely?
