Here I did it before and I never got a message says root access has been lost.
1. Odin it back
2. Root by using causal method
3. When phone reboot itself into recovery TWRP
4. Don't back up just reboot into welcome screen
5. It should ask you to install superuser, just install it
6. Finally, reboot into recovery and make nandroid back up.
On step four, I back up by using nandroid before superuser install. When I change rom, message always telling me I have lost root access quite often this way.

thats usually what i do, i tried 4 times. It doesnt ask me to install su, its already installed.
i might just have to update and wait for new root method.
Download a superuser/supersu zip file and flash it through your twrp/cwm recovery and reboot.when I first rooted my I337 ATT S4
It would loose just as I would enter recovery and my recovery would ask if I wanted to fix it before rebooting. After flashing the supersu zip file
I have had zero issues with root.

Hi first time I am having a problem of not able to flash custom rom via recovery CWM, here's the problem, I am using Philz recovery whenever I flash zip, the process of flashing went ok, but when all done flashing I press Reboot System Now, recovery takes me to screen that give me a message Root Access is Missing - Root device, then YES -- Root Device (/system/xbin/su) I click YES..then reboot when to Samsung GS4 splash screen then just black afterward instead of seeing boot animation..and after 1 minute when back to recovery..that's it..I know I already double check that I have root access also using root checker everything is ok, I even flash stock firmware through odin no problem and re-root but still doesn't help..do you think I have a problem in /system/xbin/su folder..please help how to fix this..thank you soo much..

Well it's a rare case but if possible put stock again reset the device from inside and do cf root and philz recovery all be well
There must be some bad system file or app causing this

Okay well, I have a GS4 GT-I 9500 on android 4.2.2 KitKat.
I updated it from 4.3 to this version when I was in Russia.
And lately, I heard of rooting and stuff so I'm a total newbie!
So, I jumped for some tutorials on the web and I learned about Pc Odin, chainfire root, and CWM recovery.
I used first a method wich involved using odin to push the CF auto-root with PDA into the phone while on download mode. I got only 'reset' but no 'pass' would show. And no supersu icon will appear in my app drawer. After lots of tires and multiple Odin version changes I succeeded in having 'pass', but nope, "no proper root access"(via root checker).
So then I used Odin to put CWM recovery in the phone and enter it to "install zip from sd card" and installed the CF auto-root . zip. Lines start to flow and ends with a "Done". Then I go back to reboot and it says something like do you want to fix root located in... before root? I tried "yes - fix root" and "no - just reboot" And both didn't fix it for me.
Finally, I tried motochopper.zip that have some files wich needed developer mode to be enabled and USB debugging. I only had to hit enter in run.bat and it starts the rooting process. But immediately says failure and gives an error like "failure supersu already available"...
I would really appreciate any help. I need my device rooted soon, please. Thanks in advance.
P.S: While on download mode, it shows that my phone status is modified. I won't mind having to force a factory reset if it'll fix something.
Thanks a lot!
I wonder if my post is visible to others, I really need my phone rooted

there is an app called framaroot, available by searching xda or google, usually works for rooting samsung phones.
there is also a pc app called Vroot that works almost like magic, every device i plug in is rooted within 2 minutes, even without drivers!
Nope...

Framaroot doesn't support the GT-i9500 model. I also tried Vroot and it didn't work. I'm really sure it's something from the phone...
Sorry bro, that didn't help

If you have Clockwork Mod Recovery on your phone now, find a Superuse.zip install package and flash that in recovery. It will work like a charm.
easy steps !
download & flash touch philz Recovery via Odin
then go to recovery and select re-root system > > yes apply ( Supersu )
Then download supersu from google play and he will ask you how do you want to update binary ,just click normal
YEAH!! Finally rooted

k bro
I hope this is in the right place, and im probably the highest level of noob at this so im sorry if i dont get all the terminoligy right
A few weeks ago, i decided to try and root my phone (after seeing that i could connect my usb to it) and had attempted to install philz custom recovery (6?) and install superSu and a custom ROM.
I had failed this and got it stuck in a boot loop (i think i may have done it twice by accident xd) and then my brother had done his magic and put cyanogenmod on the s5.
I just tried to install the same superSu zip. file that i used last time (i thought it should work) but now its telling me there is no Su binary or something, it also appears not to connect to the internet.
I guess my questions are, what did i do wrong?
how can i fix it?
what should i do next time?
Cyanogenmod is pre-rooted, you simply have to enable it from the developer options. SuperSU is not required.
That being said, if you had flashed an official SuperSU Zip through recovery, it should have installed the binary as well, so maybe your Zip is not right?
Official download here:
https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU
To fix it, re-flash cyanogen or some other rom. Possibly re-flash your modem too if cellular isn't working.
Next time, leave it to your brother to mess with things lol

so i dont need to download that file atall, if cyanogenmod is pre rooted? i did go into the recovery and only clicked install (was i meant to clear the cache partitions?).
what is pre rooted? i went to download the root checker and it told me that my phone wasent rooted, i said to my brother so do i not need supersu, he said yea u do if u want to root it (so i just went into the SD and redownloaded the one before, but now its telling me that it wasent rooted).
and what happens if i reflash it? will it just get rid of supersu to how it was when my brother gave me it? or will it alter some other stuff aswell

No, you don't need SuperSU. Cyanogenmod comes with root built-in. Read below.

Ok, so I've read until my head hurts. So please take pity on me if there is a thread that answer this question already. Please direct me if that's the case...
On to my problem.
I was running Optimal Rom 13-1 just fine minus the Samsung bluetooth glitch. But since There have been updates to that ROM since, I figured I'd update to 15-5.
I followed these instructions.
1. Download and install NI2Flasher.apk
2. Download and copy G900V_*_Stock_KERNEL_SafeStrap-Flashable.zip to sdcard.
3. Run NI2Flasher and select flash.
4. Grant root access for NI2flasher
5. After the app flashes the NI2 kernel tap the reboot button.
----This will reboot your device directly to Safestrap.
6. BACKUP YOUR CURRENT ROM!!!
7. Flash OptimalROM_*_BigBot96.zip
7. Do NOT forget to flash the G900V_*_Stock_KERNEL_SafeStrap-Flashable.zip afterwards.
----If you do forget you can always select recovery at the Safestrap splash screen.
8. Reboot system after flashing kernel
I chose the G900V_OG5_Stock_KERNEL_SafeStrap-Flashable.zip MD5: 0c1a06d1358cdfd19513043ee370dac1 file.
I am now in 15-5 Optimal ROM without Root and no ODIN access.
Phone seems glitchy which makes things worse. Play store FC's.
Cant install BusyBox. Im sure there's more.
Please assist as I am frustrated at this point.

So this thread can be deleted. I am an idiot...
I couldn't get to Odin because I hadn't installed the Samsung drivers since my upgrade to Win 10.
All is well. Flashed my safestrap kernel, restored. Root is intact.
EDIT: First of all, thanks for the responses. Second of all, I messed up. I ran a script that I found online called root.sh (I can't link anything until I get to 10 posts). I used that and it didn't work and unrooted me. I tried rebooting my phone(worst idea every) and now it's in a bootloop. I don't think I have root access and I've tried a factory reset. I didn't get any custom recovery and my phone is stuck in a bootloop. I have no idea how to get out of this. Any help is 100% appreciated.
I'm sorry if this is the wrong section but, I couldn't find a section for the M919V. So I recently rooted my Galaxy S4 SGH-M919V running lollipop 5.0.1 using the PC version of Kingoroot. I've been looking for a way to replace Kingo Superuser with SuperSu. I can only seem to find anything about replacing Kinguser/Kingroot (not Kingo Superuser). I would keep Kingo Superuser but, after a reboot it doesn't allow any apps to use root access even though it says it is. I have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling Kingo Superuser and waiting then it finally fixes by it's self (currently it's broken) . SuperSu-Me says I don't have Kingroot (once again, not Kingoroot). I've also tried a script but, once again, it didn't work. I know next to nothing about the inner workings of android phones so please keep any answers simple please.
Flash custom recovery.
Flash SuperSU.
Can't get any simpler.
The sgh-m919v is basically the same phone as the T-mobile S4. The sgh-m919v was issued by Canadian varriers that run an AWS network: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-M919V/
The t-mobile s4 forum is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile
Here's what I would do: flash a stock ROM via Odin to bring the phone back to a stock state and then root using cfautoroot if you want stock recovery or flash TWRP and flash supersu from TWRP.
