The site seems to describe the Mobile Odin Pro (MOP) upgrade procedure from a (rooted, knox 0x0) 4.3 to a (rooted, knox 0x0) 4.4.2.
If you look in the MOP thread that we have here (or in the MOP product thread itself) you can see that the procedure was originally suggested to Chainfire by me and it was first added to MOP 4, and then other people tested it and confirmed that the upgrade works if done correctly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49452031#post49452031
The problem remains that you need to have a ROOTED device in order to use Mobile Odin Pro.

There were a couple of knox friendly root methods that worked on 4.3 so if they are lucky enough to be on 1 of those FWs then it will be easy for them. If not then well they will be able to upgrade to KK but rooting will trip Knox as AFAIK there is no knox friendly root method on KK.

[Q] Rooting on Vodafone UK

Hi,
Wondered if someone could please help, as I wish to root without tripping knox, as it's important I have secured work emails.
Just upgraded from Xperia Z, and got experience of rooting that in various ways, along with rooting other Android phones. However, been a while since I had a Samsung phone, but not had one with knox before.
Phone has come with the following firmware:
PDA: N9005XXUBMI7
Phone: N9005XXUBMI6
CSC: N9005VFGBMI1
I've done loads of reading on the subject, and appears that I can use Root de la Vega universal 0.5 without tripping knox with the above firmware.
Could someone please confirm what I believe that it's possible to root the above firmware without tripping root?
Assuming that it is possible, Vodafone have also issued the following firmware update, which I've downloaded to pc from SamMobile, but not yet installed:
N9005XXUDMJ6_N9005VFGDMJ1_VOD
Is there a way I can then flash this update, say with Odin, without tripping root?
Really appreciate any assistance thanks
You can root mi7 without tripping knox using urdlv, then upgrade to your latest vodafone software using mobile odin pro, keeing your root and your knox 0x0
hit 'thanks' if i helped you

Hi Killberty,
Really appreciate your response thanks.
Once rooted with URDLV, would I then upgrade with Odin Pro as per the instructions here:

Many thanks again.

Yep, this is what I've done. I had a locked vodafone uk N9005 with MI7 initially. I urdlv to root. Then mop only to MJ7.
Note if you want to flash kitkat U'll need to use MOP 4.00 to flash rom and pc odin to flash bootloader only.
I'm still knox 0x0 & have root.

If you mean "without tripping Knox" - the answer is yes, it should work with URDLV.

Again - "without tripping Knox" - yes, but not with Odin but instead much easier with a program called Mobile Odin Pro - see the detailed thread on that here:

(in theory I do not like paid hacking programs but that one is an exception since it is from Chainfire and buying it is a way to encourage him to keep doing great hacks for the community).
Many thanks for your reply dsm52!!
I'm now rooted using URDLV, ready for the next process.
Is the following file classed as MJ6 or MJ1, as it appears Vodafone UK haven't released MJ7?!
N9005XXUDMJ6_N9005VFGDMJ1_VOD
The reason I ask, is because the following thread states "UNSUCCESSFUL ROOT :MJ6 and later":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522729
In addition, do you mind me asking which version of KK you've used, as Vodafone UK haven't released this yet?
I need to retain knox 0x0
Many thanks again

It sounds like you want to stay with official Vodafone rom versions.
I didn't see any need to, so I flashed MJ7 BTU (UK) using MOP as the next step, which worked perfectly.
I flashed mk2 btu wheb that came out in the same way.
Fir kitkat, like most others, i flashed the Polish XEO NA6 official rom. Like I said kitkat flash is a little more tricky due to the extra bootloader flashing step. Personally, kitkat release isn't quite ready for prime time so samsung haven't rolled it out in more regions. There a few little quirks about it, e.g. genuine s view cover not working for all. I'd suggest waiting for the official BTU release before flashing by which time they may have ironed out the little bugs.
Good luck!

Actually I was unlocked within a few mins of making the call - unlock code got texted to me. And it was free - most likely because I was within my first 7 days of a new contract.
If it's not a new contract phone, then some others have reported chainfire's region lock away to work:

Just to let you know, note 3 n9005 is otherwise called note 3 LTE, anything with 5 at the end like i9305, i9505, is the LTE variant.
Coming to question of root, that method will work, its called CF-auto root and the latest package can be downloaded from
http://download.chainfire.eu/352/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip
But this will void your warranty as KNOX counter will get tripped to 0x1.
Having said that anybody who is on 4.4.2(any version), if they were not rooted before, will get KNOX 0x1 (warranty Void), if they try to root.

This should be stickied somewhere, because as someone who is still within the first 24 hours of reading about this device, it is not clear at all.
I just got a Note 3 that is still on 4.3 Jelly Bean, Kies is telling me to update as follows:
Current firmware version : PDA:MJ7 / PHONE:MJ7 / CSC:MJ1 (VIA)
Latest firmware version : PDA:NB4 / PHONE:NB1 / CSC:NB1 (VIA)
I am trying to find out if I can do this safely or not, at the moment my Note 3 is stock out of the box.
If what you write is right, then I should NOT update using Kies now, but root first, if my goal is to keep Knox warranty 0x0.
But how, if chainfires method is also triggering it?
If I had root I could use Mobile Odin and that doesn't trigger Knox?
I have spent several hours reading the subforums for the Note 3 as of now, it's still not clear, I think some more things need to be stickied and updated.
What would the best steps be from MJ7 stock?

Not really, if you are looking up ways to root without tripping Knox then you generally stumble across the URDLV thread and it has this in BIG RED letters across the top... URDLV was a sticky in Original Developement forum...
AFAIK the only way to root 4.4.2 is to downgrade it to 4.3 before MJ4 then root it using URDLV method. Here's a site on how this can be done.
http://www.thebitbag.com/root-your-...ut-tripping-samsung-knox-security-suite/73295
Disclaimer : I have not try this method and not responsible if you brick your phone.
As others have posted, there's currently no method to reset the Knox counter once it is tripped. The bounty is still out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52095753#post52095753

ROOT - Not rooted pre-4.4...How?

Wanting to root my brothers phone for him...but can't find any solid details on how or if its safe for those who are already on official 4.4. He upgraded via phone OTA from 4.3...and all post I find are in reference to 4.3 rooting to 4.4 ...and since root has been accomplished prior to official being rolled out...is there a method to it for those who werent game enough to try it on a nee device???
You can root but will trip knox, so no warrenty. If thats cool check out CF-auto root method and pick the apropriet 4.4 version..

Root is always possible. If firmware is 4.3 MJ3 & above, you are not able to have a safe rooting without tripping the KNOX. Don't worry, this trip is only for warranty. No other issue other than warranty is voided.
The easiest way to root, is always chainfire method, which is mentioned earlier ==> CF-Autoroot.
Just grab the latest file from his thread (under Note 3 original Android development). Choose a correct device for you. N9005 must use N9005, N900 must use N900, and vice versa.
Read carefully on the instructions on how to root (easy to follow and to understand).
Good luck.

Why u have been told to upgrade first before root? Because if u root then upgrade, u will need to reroot again.
Any stock flashing will auto unroot ur device again. So why do twice?

I don't mind tripping Knox 2.0 as I have no warranty and no plans to resell anyway - can it be done at all right now, or are we stuck until Towelroot etc are fixed for >3rd date kernels?
People say to use mobile odin pro, and knox remain 0x0. Do an search with rom name plus root and read instructions
I spent two hours trying to establish if there was any way to root this firmware before asking. I can find nothing useful or even whether it can be flashed back to the previous firmware. If anyone knows and can actually help with an answer, it would be very appreciated.
