[Q] Note 3 Clone? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just bought a Note 3 off eBay, it was listed as the AT&T variant of the Note 3. I received the phone earlier today and the 1st thing I did was went straight to the settings to see if everything was up to par.
In settings under about device it says its running 4.4 and the model number is SM-N9006. I did a quick Google search and came up with mixed results, some said it was the Chinese version of the Note 3 and some said it was a Note 3 clone.
I did a benchmark test and it doesnt look like the hardware is what its suppose to be, it actually listed it in the rankings as below the S3.
Any feedback would be great, I do have a 14 day return on this. Thanks a lot everyone.

hover the pen over the screen and press the spen button
and should work when pulled out

When I pull the pen out a lil menu on the bottom right pops up but when I wave it in front if the screen nothing happens.
Here's a screen shot of the air gesture menu, see it says "ware" instead of "wave"? Lol

Don't worry about spelling mistakes there are a few through the menus. Has anyone ever noticed the equalizer spelt equaliser in the music menu? There are a few you just have to look. But if your getting antutu scores on par or lower than an S3 then you have the mediate mtk processor and it is a fake for sure.

Just download Samsung info from Play store and see results without wasting time.

probably something like this : http://www.fastcardtech.com/HDC-Galaxy-Note-3-N9006.html

I already contacted the seller and he's issuing a refund. I figure I might as well get the AT&T version I wanted since they are both about the same price. I'm gonna check out Swappa and try and get my phone from there. Thanks to everyone who replied and helped! ::victory:

Equaliser is correct. Same as defence, centre, colour etc. just depends where you come from.
Ware however is wrong.

How Can I Tell If a GT-N7000 is Genuine? (Should I Buy this Phone?)

I'm going to buy a used GT-N7000 off craigslist tomorrow but I'm concerned that it could be an imitation as I have read that there are several Chinese copies available ...
How can I tell if the phone on craigslist is the real deal?
I'd very much appreciate any quick responses!
Thanks!

What should I be looking for under "about phone," exactly?
I know "about phone" will give you the model number, but couldn't a fake Note list a fake model number as well? All they would have to do is have it say "GT-N7000" under model number, right?
Thanks again for weighing in!

But if it is rooted and running a ROM, which I believe this one is (some ICS rom), then won't it just display the custom ROM info under "Build number?"
At least, that is the way it is with my current S2. Under "Build number" it says SHOstock Rom v1.9.4.
EDIT: Just looked at the ad again--it doesn't say the phone is running a custom ROM, just that it is running the latest version of ICS ... What build number would that be?
Here is the ad, with photos, in case that helps ...

From pictures looking genuine .... Although do check the information mentioned by glevitan
Take the battery cover off, remove the battery. It will say GT N7000. But that looks legit.
It looks like he's running a Miui of some sort by the lock screen.
Personally the easiest way to spot a fake is to check the camera...most replica phones won't even sport a 8mp camera and hd video recording. After checking the 'About' in the settings, your best bet would be to check the cam. Check the cam's menu,photo/video resolution/quality.
Thanks to all of you for the excellent suggestions! They're very much appreciated and I feel a lot more confident going to meet with this guy today. Hopefully I'll be joining the Note family ....

the real one has the battery charging input near the home button, the fake one battery charging slot is next to audio 3.55mm hole.
you may also closely examine the box, any bar coding, manufacturing info.Remove the back cover examine the sticker under the batteryMatch the IMEI, *#06# to the sticker, and to label on box.Use some web-based IMEI look up sites to verify the IMEI matches the model.
buy from a geniune samsung authorise dealer.

There are many imei checking sites.. Get the imei and give a search. It will give you the manufacture info in a sec...
Build quality is also a thing, Only Geniune Note will feel solid in hand without any quickie noise...
A fake won't have an spen if a stylus is there then either will that work or multi touch pinch etc. Will but if both work then it's genuine.

Post a pic of the backside, most clones don`t have a heartrate sensor. Als install Phone Info or CPU-Z if you can to help identifying the phone.

Samsung is NOT out of place. The photo wasn't taken straight on. That being said, the inner boxing is all wrong. The packing that holds the phone itself is flush with the top edge of the outer box the entire way around. Personally, I wouldn't buy it. If you have doubts dont do it. Also if the seller won't meet your requests for pics, don't do it
To me the dimensions look wrong, it looks wider than my s5. I call fake. Don't risk it unless you can see it in person
Thanks guys
I saw that the Samsung logo was in the wrong place (too close to the top of screen) instantly so that's why I asked here. But the seller remained certain it was genuine.
I won't buy it.

bezels are way too narrow. It is definetly a fake. Also if you're ever questioning a phones authenticity best way to sort out fakes from real is quickly login with a Gmail and download cup identifier from the play store. Tells you everything you need to know from model to cpu brand/type to camera resolution etc. Even tells you if it's imitating a real phone
I'm pretty sure that "samsung's logo is too close to the screen" and the "phone's too wide" or "the bezels are too thin"..is because of the black sticker/amoled paper thingy all over the phone.. im still doubtful tho
I have been going around posting a link to this website I found which has details about differences between real and fake Galaxy S devices.
http://littleboyreports.com/science...ifferentiate-original-samsung-galaxy-s5-fake/

WARNING!!! Fake vs Real Note 4

Warning!! I just came across this at work when my co-worker asked me to set up his phone. I realized something was wrong when I saw the screen and size of this note 4. I decided to show it off for those who is considering picking up one from ebay or Craigslist. See the comparison from a real note 4 and see for yourself. There's no real difference w/ the software but the hardware might be a concern since the battery(charger) is not Original it might blow-up or melt. The fake one is really flaky and has weird random vibration and I would not recommend using it at ALL!!
As far as I can tell, that's an N910F, which is the Note 4 for most of Europe (and I believe is Exynos based) so it's not fake, just not US market.
You're are correct one the version. It's a custom rom from the international version. But...see attachment of the cpu spec from cpu z. Also, did you see the back panel w the battery? The fake have obvious over paint...

I saw that, but it's possible for someone to paint a device. That doesn't mean it's fake.
Now the CPU showing up as a Mediatek is suspect, but still not conclusive I don't think as software can be wrong. Regardless, the buyer didn't get what they thought they were getting.
Yea, more and more fakes are popping up. I just remember watching this video where he bought a fake. There will always be a good counterfeit and an even better one.
Testing Wacom digitizer is probably one of better tests. Knocks off using much cheaper digitizer and button on pen doesnt work.

IT'S UTTER CRAP!!! The response time is slow...definitely not as a real note 4. The screen is flaky and you need to press hard or couple of time to get any response from the LCD. Also, I noticed it heated up when I put in the charger. Wouldn't trust this crap charging on my night stand.

Unfortunately it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. People are awful and they'll do anything for a buck, including preying on people's innocence.
We still sell these at my work whenever we get them in, but we put it in big bold letters in the auction- this is a clone, not a real Samsung phone- just so people know exactly what they're buying.
I came across one too. The S-Pen, the thin battery, the light/low-volt charger was a quick way for me to notice some thing was not right.
On the OP picture of the back, you can also tell the heart rate sensor looks different.

I'm sure many of these are sold on the run. Like off the street and craigslist. They'll run away with your money.
Someone tried this on my girlfriend. I ended up beating the shiit out of him than i threw the note in a puddle. Lol got me so heated.
Wow, that's crazy. That's not a clone, that's a counterfeit! ?
And I'd say 99% of people (buyers) would never know it was not authentic!
You would have to be phone savvy to realize it wasn't genuine. ??
To me the biggest giveaway for fake Galaxy phones is always the screen.
Amoled screens are always dark looking when the phone is turned off. If the screen isn't dark (almost pitch black) when turned off 9/10 times it is a fake or possibly a real one Galaxy that could of had screen damage and was replaced with a fake screen.
Check the side by side pic comparison the OP posted.

Hey bro I got the priv on 7th November for $ 850 in UAE so far using for 3 day now and im impressed, the only negative is the back feels a bit flimsy. What about yours?
I had a note 5 before this and note 4,3,and htc m8 etc. so never used stock . I had freezing issues on my fone so never really liked the note 5 and glad i switched.
I dont like the photos and music app can you recommend me any relaible and user friendly alternatives.
Plus does your fone also get extra warm during normal use.
And i read somewhere it has wireless charging but mine doesnt work on the samsung's wireless dock.

I think the back is little wonky because of the keyboard, but nothing big really. Ever so slight.
Play music is the best i always use that. For Gallery try QuickPic or Picktures. They are pretty neat.
Yes Phone does get warm abot with normal use, but cools off quickly. Hopefully they fix it with new updates.

From what I read somewhere, wireless charging is only available in the model they sell in the US blackberry store. Not sure why. Also someone mentioned that the back is more flimsy on the models that do not have wireless charging, probably because the extra room needed for wireless charging part.
EDIT: Some clarification on wireless charging, apparently only available on models purchased from the Blackberry store both in US and Canada. Carrier models do not have the feature.
http://mobilesyrup.com/2015/11/09/c...out-wireless-charging-on-the-blackberry-priv/
can you tell me how to buy the phone in egypt please ?
I got a Priv as well on Nov. 6th. First one to walk into Rogers and pick one up before they disappeared.
The back does feel a tad flimsy on the Canadian model (without wireless charging) but nothing deal breaking; would have been nice if they put something in there to prevent any depressing of the back of the device. I am putting a hard case on mine though so I won't even notice it.
Device is comfortable, the software is well integrated, gaming performance is excellent. As others mentioned, it does get a bit warm on processor intensive tasks but nothing uncomfortable.
I think BB should have partnered with Samsung and used an Exynos CPU instead of the Snapdragon 808 -- the Exynos 7420 is way better than the Snapdragon 808.

Well mine is the Canadian carrier model, STV100-3.
I believe the ones sold by Shop Blackberry and carried by American carriers are STV100-1, which do have Qi charging.
Could one of you check if the physical keyboard layout dialog is in its usual place at "Settings => Language & input => Physical keyboard => first entry"?
If so, could you pull the contents of /system/usr/keylayout and /system/usr/keychars (should be quite small)? I'd like to have a look at their physical keyboard layout files, for creating a Finnish layout.

How do you know if you have a fake S7 Edge, or if it is real??? My new G935f...

i received my s7 edge today, and found some things that are worrying me. first, the writing on the bottom of the back of the phone is barely noticeable, and definitely not readable. second, it states on the box, that it was made in vietnam. i haven't read anywhere of samsung having phone fabricated in vietnam.
on the other hand, everything works perfectly. i downloaded aida64, and it has the sony sensor on the back camera. it is listed as a 935f, and not some other wierd letter. the everything i have tested has worked flawlessly. but i can't get over worrying that the other shoe will fall after it's too late to return.
so i need for those who have a g935f, to let me know if you can easily read the writing at the bottom of the back cover, and if you have one that was fabricated in vietnam, i'd like to know if you have had any problems with it at all. thanks!!!
You can tell if it's fake, Samsung's are made in Korea and Vietnam the small text on the back is hard for anyone to read

this is the one thing i can't tell. it's shiny and beautiful, but i'm not sure of the glass quality.
2

no, no gaps.
3
The screen is not as bright and vibrant as the original device's.
the screen is very bright and beautiful.
4
Some of the sensors are not available.

6
The Samsung logos are not smoothed out and can be felt; rubbing it will also remove the logo.
no, they are smooth and under the glass.
7
The device's proportions different than that of the genuine product.
seems like the same dimensions, as it fits properly into my cases.
8
Gaps between parts like the home, power, and volume buttons are obvious.
no gaps at any of these buttons.
9

of course with samsung everything that seems like it would be that easy, never is. samsung america will NOT comment whatsoever on the g935f, because it is not an american device. they act like they are completely handicapped if you ask them about anything that is NOT carrier specific. It, of course, was the first thing i did. then i tried to call the uk customer support, but the time difference kept screwing that up. and on top of all that, i had to make a decision today, or get stuck. so that is why i was buggin.
however, tonight i drove across town to the bestbuy, and held a few of theirs in my hands while the guys were busy with other customers, and that made me feel a lot better, as several of those also had writing that was hard to see. only on the edge, not the reg s7, which was very clear. then i had the samsung rep look it over, check all the coding and he said it was legit. so i am done. i will keep it, and feel great about it. all day it has performed very well, and all sensors work perfectly. i've done motion sensors, bluetooth, cameras, wifi, etc... it all checked out. so thank you for anyone who commented to this thread. i appreciate the efforts. cheers!

yeah, i've been killing myself to find a white one. definitely a very difficult task, especially if you are NOT willing to pay over a thousand dollars for it. they have them on ebay for
$1,150.00. But i'd settled for a black one before paying that. so i have my very rare white one, and it's all good now. and i actually paid a hundred less than the first one i got. so very happy with the end result.

Worth every penny for a fake white one. Everyone knows white makes it faster. That's why best f1 cars are mostly white

So the writing on the back is blacked out because of the change from the fCC that doesn't mandate the imei and other info be displayed. So since the phone is blacked out they made it dark so you can see if you look closely but not if you are far away. Phone is made in multiple locations, and honestly only way to be 100% sure is to check hardware which you did. That can't be spoofed easily and takes work. Also, if it's real you should be able to register it on Samsung's website. If you can register it. Chances are your are good.

You can install this APP, tap on the 3 menu lines on the up to the left and tap Refurbishment Check option.
Mine says made in vietnam and the texts in the back are barely noticeable (i got the black variant tho) but im 100% sure my device is legit since i got it from a legit source. Where did you get yours? If its somewhere fishy then you should worry. If its from a trusted source then dont worry at all.

My last 3 samsung devices including this one are all made in vietnam. I bought them all from my carrier. The text on the back is a little hard to see at certain lighting.

yeah, i installed that app this afternoon, and it says it's all good. except my scs says nordic se. that's the only thing that stuck out. but after seeing all of that, comparing it to other s7 edge devices in a bestbuy tonight, and speaking with their guy, i am satisfied it is all good. runs really fast, and the battery life has lasted all day with very little drain.

yeah, i feel a lot better after you guys were telling me that yours was made in vietnam as well. i'd just never paid attention before to that. but i got it off an online store. they of course say they are legit, but you never know if you can walk in and see. anyway, all's well that ends well. and i am cool with it now. thanks for the comment.

i received my s7 edge today, and found some things that are worrying me. first, the writing on the bottom of the back of the phone is barely noticeable, and definitely not readable. second, it states on the box, that it was made in vietnam. i haven't read anywhere of samsung having phone fabricated in vietnam.
on the other hand, everything works perfectly. i downloaded aida64, and it has the sony sensor on the back camera. it is listed as a 935f, and not some other wierd letter. the everything i have tested has worked flawlessly. but i can't get over worrying that the other shoe will fall after it's too late to return.
so i need for those who have a g935f, to let me know if you can easily read the writing at the bottom of the back cover, and if you have one that was fabricated in vietnam, i'd like to know if you have had any problems with it at all. thanks!!!
