Issues Turning on the Screen - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently my LG G2 Verizon has started having an issue with turning on.
1. will no longer turn on by knock on. (knock off works)
2. when i push the power button on the back about 75% of the time the screen turns on then immediately turns off or turns off as soon as i touch the screen. I have to push it a bunch while touching the screen to get it to stay on and let me unlock it.
3. pulling down the notification bar from the top only pulls down partially then closes a lot of the time.
I have tried:
1. Uninstalling a bunch of apps, no success.
2. did a data reset and wiped everything. no success.
Running:
4.2.2
VS98011A
TWRP 2.6.3.2
When i first went into TWRP i tried to do a factory reset and it just sat there with an error that i could not mount the cache. Then i rebooted, went back in and this time did a data wipe and typed "yes" to verify. It got stuck trying to do that as well, but this time when i rebooted it was reset and i had to reenter all my account settings etc. But it is still having the same issue. I am wondering if there is something in the cache thats causing it and i wonder if it did not wipe the cache when it wiped the data.
At this point i just want the phone to work but not sure why TWRP is having issues. Has anyone else had any of these issues? Can anyone help with these issues?
I wouldnt mind flashing the VS98011B rom but i am not sure TWRP is working correctly and want to make sure it works right before i try to flash a new rom. Should i use CWM? if so how do i get from TWRP to CWM? i need some help.
Any advice is extremely appreciated.

bump for help PLEASE.

I had that issue with one of mine. 1st make.sure ure screen protector is not over the prox sensor 2nd case isnt over it and 3rd clean. With the knock off on feture when the screen is off the prox sensor is on so iff u gots ure phone in ure pocket and double tap it wont come on i was holding my hand over the sensor and it pissed me off so bad. If all else fail shut off knock on and it may work then if not u have a bad prox sensor its what ive read about and found out
If this helps remember the thanx

Gingerblur help!

so I just got the atrix today, rooted it, and then installed gingerblur.
It seemed to work fine, but now when it rebooted for the first time as gingerblur it says the finger print scanner is initializing and it won't let me unlock it manually. The screen then goes black and the only way to turn it back on is to take out the battery and put it back in, but it just does the same thing.
Did i already screw up my phone?
would it be bad to wipe data/factory reset with gingerblur on it?

Should be able to use RSD Lite to flash back to 4.1.26, then update from there. All instructions are in forum.

I had/have the EXACT same issue. Here's what I can tell you I did to "work around" the issue. As the phone is booting up, continually swipe your finger over the scanner. Ultimately your finger will be scanned and the phone will unlock. Then go into settings and change your screen lock to something other than the finger scanner. This will allow you to unlock the phone and have it work again.
Ultimately when the screen goes black it's just the display timing out--but there is something that goes on with the finger scanner that won't let you wake up the display.
I'd still like to know why GingerBlur does this to my finger scanner (and yours apparently) but not others.

[Q] Black Screen...

Hello all. First let me state that I rather not make a thread to ask help on a problem that seems to have happened to a few owners, but my knowledge as to how I could resolve the issue is severely lacking..
At some point today my phone was ringing but the screen would not show. I thought about taking the battery out and turning it back on but there would be no HTC, Bootanimation, anything. It was Just a black-lit screen which responds due to tactile feedback and the four touchkeys light up as usual. At first there was an odd sound that would play after a few minutes so I decided to charge it but again there was nothing. Even tried to access bootloader with -Vol and Power still no screen.
I asked a friend of mine to call my phone to see if it would ring but they said it instantly goes to voicemail as if my phone was off. Note that I WAS SURE IT WAS ON.
Adb seems to work with it as it seems whatever I need to do I have to do it through there.
G2 rooted with gfree method
CM7.1 RC1
Clockwork Recovery
Again i am sorry if I bothered those with posting something others would think is "too common of a problem" as I have no experience in fixing this issue. Plus I would like to try any option available as I would not like to try and have my phone replaced (because of the risk of discovering root and obtaining a G2 with stock gingerbread which is currently not rootable)
Please help..
It sounds like you're suffering from some sort of hardware failure. You need to send your phone in for repair/replacement.

A. They don't care if its rooted.
B. You can root stock Gingerbread.
Same issue here...
I'm facing the same issue, when i try to unlock the phone (power button or trackpad) the screen lights but stays black, and the buttons are also backlit. I have to lock again with power button and unlock again to get to the actual screen.
It first happened a few days ago, and since i didn't reboot/restart in weeks i tried to reboot but the same issue comes back.
then i shut it down, pulled the battery and then back, and restarted: the phone goes directly to that black backlit screen, i tried several times and tried recovery with no luck, so i thought my phone was messed up although i did have some haptic feedback, well in fact the phone was actually booting, but just not showing anything else than the backlit screen; i waited a minute or so to the booting completes (still shows nothing), then i lock/unlock the screen again and there it is, asking for the pin code.
I tried to go to the recovery again to try to wipe dalvik-cache, i know for sure it goes to recovery, but with a totally black screen, not even backlit this time; the trackpad is too sensitive in the recovery to just blindly navigate in the menu, so it is not useable at all.
Then i had the idea to go to Rom Manager, i reflashed the rom from my sd-card, and enabling wipe dalvik-cache, which worked (all through a black screen). After a few minutes i "felt" it rebooting (vibrating) but still back to that black backlit screen, and i locked/unlocked it again and back it was asking pin code...
I also tried to roll back recovery to 3.0.2.4, since i remember i updated it a few weeks ago, but still the same issue.
I don't know what else to do without accessing the recovery, i wanted to try another kernel, or remove the trackpad wake... is there a way to do it via a script? I guess it's what Rom manager does...
Next step will be a total wipe, but i need to make some room on my sdcard for backup purposes first...
If anyone has an idea to sort this out, i'm highly interested...
I'll try to get a logcat, maybe could give a hint
Edit: Virtuous sense 2.0.0 (used it with no issue since it came out, could it be a hw issue?)
Edit2 : attached logcat
Is the pin screen differant than the usual one ie white number keys? If it is that's the sim lock screen you need to call the carrier to get the code or find out the default. Or just get a new sim lol
nah it's the 4 digit pin code, i didn't lose it btw, it's still working and i can use the phone, but i have a black backlit screen whenever i want to wake the phone, and thus when i receive a phone call, i don't know who it is and i blindly press/swipe the screen to answer, because if i want to use the same trick of locking /unlocking, it doesnt work as the lock button is also used to reject a call...
Maybe rip and reinstall the phone app?

I have the same exact problem as this EXCEPT, it's intermittent. Sometimes when I wake the phone I get an all black but backlight screen, and other times it's fine. I'm on CM7.1.
But a superwipe and reflash will probably fix it. Also don't restore system data on TB
I know i still can use wipe data + cache + dalvik through rom manager, and i always used to superwipe before switching roms, but how can i do that now when the recovery is all blacked out?
can anyone guide me to a script or something i could do while the phone is active, to tell him to reboot to recovery and flash that superwipe?
anyway i'll try the regular wipe and keep the thread updated

On my side if i leave the phone locked more than 30 seconds, it happens 100% of the time; also I noticed that now the backlight blinks 2 or 3 times (1 second blinking) when locked, first a few minutes after locking, and then randomly, about 3 or 4 times per hour; I guess it's getting worse;
I've read on another thread that it could be video cable getting loose, but since mine is still under guarantee, i won't open it right now just to check, if i can't fix by wiping / superwiping (when i know how to), i'll use that guarantee, which is one month left (lucky me)
EDIT: one other thing that makes me think it's no hardware, when the black screen appears because of a phone call or a message, the ringtone and notification sound are both half as loud as they should be, this is all really strange
after backing up my data, i reflashed the rom via Rom Manager, and I wiped data and cache (which equals to factory reset) this time: the first screen that should show the pin code numpad was already a black (backlit) screen!!
Also, thinking about it, i realised that the "flash rom from sdcard" menu in Rom Manager is in fact "Flash ZIP from sdcard": the zip doesn't have to be a ROM!!
So I tried flashing a new kernel this way, also some framework modifications (extended settings, removed TP wake, etc...) they all install Ok, but still this black screen...
Also I was about to flash SuperWipeG2.zip this way, but if it doesn't fix my problem, I will be stuck with a blacked out recovery, as SuperWipe wipes everything including /system; so if anyone has an idea to tell Rom Manager to flash two zips (Superwipe then Rom) i'll be willing to try, or a script to do that;
Maybe i'll have a look of the scripts in Superwipe and in the rom, and put both zips together... don't know if it's possible?
Maybe I'll try the Superwipe alone if I can get a spare phone, just in case...
Other thing:I used the phone's gps for more than 5 hours with the screen lit, and it never flickered even once; so it's hard to believe it's a screen connection issue...
Just to keep this updated, everything i did, including superwipe didn't change this issue, so i sent it back to the technical support (under guarantee) and I got it back today; the report that came with it says the screen has been replaced; so it was hardware finally...
Hi, i have same problem.. Black screen in recovery and during the boot. When the system boots, screen is OK. Sometimes i have also blackscreen when I want to use HW keyboard. I tried 4ext, reflash older versions of CW but still the same. I can see a screen through Android Screen Monitor and I can cotrol it. But phone is blak, only backlight. Can somebody say, how to solve this issue?
So, for other, if you cant see screen, you can use Android Screen Monitor for Windows and connect phone through USB and see a screen.

WAIT one minute... they don't care? where was I when this meeting took place?
I had this issue as well on a spare G2 I had.
The screen was just black but you could tell it was lit, hardware keys were lit as well.
The phone was actually my brothers and it rooted w/ CM7.
I ended up selling the phone as is on Ebay but after some research it was a failure in the hardware for the screen and I found extensive instructions on how to replace it that I didn't wish to do.
I never attempted to get it replaced and kind of wish I did now if they don't care about the device being rooted.
I purchased my G2 before he had his, and it's never had the issue so not sure what to think of it.

I found on ebay: HTC-Desire-Z-T-Mobile-G2-A7272-Slide-Flex-Cable-Ribbon
or I found also with the chassis for a bit more.
Thinking to buy this, it would be great if anyone could confirm that it would help "my condition" ?
THanks in advance!
In terms of cables, yes the flex cables are what you want.

Screen keeps turning off

Dear members,
I have a weird issue with my S4 I9505. I just installed SlimSaber 5.1.1 and everything went fine. The weird thing is, the screen turns off immediatly after booting. It brings up the pin-screen but it switches off. I can turn it on, enter pin, but the again it switches off. I can (sometimes!) bring up the lock screen, swipe the unlock button and it switches off again. I can receive calls, pick up, but I can't go to the home screen from there. Long story short, I can't access my phone. As if something keeps putting it into lock mode. Right now I can't even bring up the lockscreen anymore.
I took apart my phone and cleaned the proximity sensor, cause I figured that might be causing the problem but that didn't help either.
About a year ago I had a similar issue that must be related. I was on stock rom but at some point it kept switching to S-Cover view, even though I don't use s-cover. I fixed that by installing SlimKat 4.4.4 rom which doesn't support the S-view feature. But apparently the problem came back when I installed SlimSaber.
The only thing I can think of is reflashing custom, but I don't think that will help since that was what brought me in this predicament in the first place.
HELP!!!
Update:
Allright, I managed to get back to Slimkat 4.4.4 by reflashing stock and CMW 6.0.4.4 and after that flashing Slimkat.
But still not able to install SlimSaber 5.1.1 or other Android 5 roms. When I flashed stock 5.0.1 the S-view issue immediately came back.

There is a screw on the back of your phone. It has L1 written on it. A lot of users report that if you loosen it a bit, it will fix the sview issues. Try it.

Hmm thanks!
I already took my phone apart to clean the proximity sensor which included taking out the L1 screw, but that didn't help. But from what I've gathered after researching your tip the screw could still be magnetically charged. It means that I have to remove/loosen the screw and reinstall a different ROM to see how the sensor reacts. It's a long shot, but I'll give it a try.

Thats sounds like a magnetic sensor problem.
When I put my s4 near a hard magnetic field it turns off the screen (In Touchwiz shows s-view menu)

Yes, I've heard of Xposed. But since I'm not able to access the phone at all I can't install it either. Let alone tweak the settings.
Strangest thing. I removed the screw, flashed stock... no cigar. Still the s-view screen. So I flashed CMW again so I could restore my back-up.
Yet instead of booting to recovery it boots to Android, and guess what? No S-view screen! It shows my pin-unlock screen. But don't start cheering just yet. For some reason that is completely besides me my touch screen now isn't working so I can't enter my code. I figured, let's remove my simcard and see what happens. But now when it finished booting, it just shows a black screen with nothing but the battery and signal icon at the top.
-edit-
Back to 4.4.4
Now all I can think of is removing the sensor all together, but I don't know how to do that. Anybody got ideas?

Really weird problem, Ghost clicks on screen, i can do nothing!

I have note 4 , and today just immediately for no reason its started to open google search page, then shutting it down, when try to read whatsapp message its goes back to home page and starts open google, i cant look ,check, read, anything, its like ghost touching to my phone,-and its really fast-, i have no control on the phone, if someone calls i can reply, there is no water damage, no dropping down, i haven't seen anything like that before.
i can't lock phone from power button,if i am lucky i can lock it but then screen starting to turn on and turn off, i made cache cleaning, i dont want to format because i have to do back up some data, no new apk's the last apk i install like 2 months ago....
any ideas?

One most probable cause is smudges/sweat.
Wipe your screen clean & dry the let see if the problem occurs.
Another probability is damaged Home Button.
Looks like home button issue. Make sure its not partially jammed in somehow. Could be an issue under the home button inside the case....

i have done factory reset, wipe cache, screen cleaning..
The above posts are probably right suggesting a broken Home Button. You can try to disable the physical home button and install an on-screen navigation bar.
i took it to the technical service. lets see what is the result and i will write down the info here.
Solution : I took the device from service. They changed the charge socket, home button and i have got my device back, no problem.
So as a result it's hardware problem.
Thanks for helps
Glad it got fixed pretty quickly for you

Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 Screen stays black after i type my PIN

Hello recently i had an issue with my proximity sensor it was stucked at 0 cm
until it felt down and then worked for a little time but then stopped again
So i decide to dissasembly it and clean the sensors and everything ( i blowed air and used a tooth brush too)
when i assembled everything back i booted on recovery to make a clean install of my rom
everything was going well until i booted the phone and after i typed my PIN code and drag the screen up to unlock it
then suddenly screen goes black and only turned on when someone calls me.
When im pressing the power/lock or home button always playing the lock sound.
Tried everything, i tried to boot the phone without each sensor but always doing the same thing
I tried to disscharge the phone, pulling of the battery and keep power button pressed for 1 minute but again the same thing
The phone is working well in TWRP (touchscreen) , Can someone explain to me what happend?
Also when someone calls me the proximity sensor is working well.
Running Mokee ROM android 6.0 but i tried to recover back to s4's official backup and the cyanogen release 5.1 but also got the same problem
I think its the proximity sensor could it be?
Is something wrong with my post? maybe i wrote too many and no1 reads it ? or no1 have seen this before?
Anyways i need help so much, i cant call anyone i cant read texts i cant do anything and i cant buy another one
It could be a hardware or software issue. Did you try to find a way to completely disable the proximity sensor in the ROM?
Was the phone dropped? Any loose connections in the phone?
Does this happen if you flash ROMs other than Mokee, for example, Cyanogenmod?

but i dont think so, many times i try to unlock it and it doing some wierd thing like vibrating then it shuts down but without showing me anything.
Guys i think i damaged somehow the mainboard but i didnt do something so hard to damage something can i damage something with a tooth brush??

No, because the firmware isn't the problem. Your proximity sensor I believe is screwed up, probably from using a toothbrush on it and scratching the sensor. While I'm curious as to where you saw or heard that bit of advice since toothbrushes are abrasive, it's not really relevant.
Replace the proximity sensor.

Yea i thought in the begining that this is the problem but explain me why on call proximity works normal if i take the phone away from my ear screen on and if i get it back screen off simple normal.
Also i tried to boot the phone without the proximity connected on it and again it was doin the same thing and 1 more question does the proximity sensor have the possibility to lock the phone?
I really dont know what is going on propably i have to buy a new one i think
I used a tooth brush cause i didnt have anything else but i didnt put much pressure i just touched it
I must upload a video to show u whats exactly happening because its very stange i cant get to home screen with any way everytime it shuts the screen off
but if i choose to go to settings and get black screen when some1 calls and talk when i end the call it will show me the settings but if i try to get anywhere else i will get again black screen and when
some calls and end again the call it will show me that i was choosed before its so annoying really.
Forgive me for my bad english.
any suggestions?
