Latest Update to my Note 3 and I lost root. Attempted KINGO ROOT BUT FAILED. If you had have the issue with KINGO NOT supported failed when downloading requisite dependency files. Try this DON'T PUT PHONE INTO DOWNLOAD MODE JUST LEAVE TURNED ON AND UNLOCK SCREEN SAVER AND PLUG INTO USB PORT ON PC AND CLICK ROOT. Be sure to Enable CHECK USB debugging mode on your device and UNCHECKED "VERIFY APPS" before attempting root.

Great info!!! Thanks a bunch for sharing it. Looks like I was your first thanks
Thanks for reposting the kingo directions that are on their website.
You forgot to mention that you need to set the display timeout to 10 minutes. If your display times out during the process it can fail.

I am getting the message in ODIN when I try to power my phone on:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please use Software Repair Assistant & try again.
It happened after I tried to "reroot" my phone after the OTA update from yesterday. I was using Root De La Vega. I must have done something wrong. After about 20 seconds of the recovery process it gave me an error: secure check fail : cache at the last line under the paragraph in the upper left hand corner. Now my phone just sits in ODIN with the above error message. Is there a way to recover?

What the guy was saying is that the OTA breaks root...that's why you're getting the message you're getting. You'll have to go back to the previous build to root as stated above. Next time, do a small amount of research before accepting an OTA.

OTA doesn't break root, you just have to use caution - go in SuperSU, select Survival Mode, deselect Enable Superuser. Then take the OTA update - when it's all finished, go back into SuperSU, select Enable Superuser, then uncheck Survival Mode and you're done. Root on latest OTA update.
I believe you need to have the pay/pro version of SuperSU for the Survival Mode option.

Correct if I am wrong....wouldn't it be easier just to revert to stock using Odin and then take the update on Kies or OTA then root again? I think this would save a lot of folks the trouble. You can root the OTA and safe strap still works....

That's how I got myself into this mess.. used that after my OTA update. I have tried it several times since but if fails almost immediately with the following error. Not sure exactly what it means but I assume it's telling me it can't update the BL because i already have a newer version (after OTA MJ5 update)
Code:
SW REV CHECK FAIL : [sbl1]Fused 2 > Binary 1
thanks for the suggestion
P.S. no luck at sammobile either
I recently got a Galaxy Note 3 from Verizon. I wanted to root the device, it was really easy with my old original galaxy so I looked at a few guides which were all using "Root de la Vega" and finally tonight in an attempt to root my device I used the guide at:
phonearena.com/news/How-to-Root-the-Verizon-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-3_id48247
I put the phone into download mode and connected it to Odin with the included Samsung USB 3.0 cable. I selected the root de la vega firmware using the AP button and hit Start to begin flashing. Almost immediately after the write starts it fails and on the phone it says:
"Secure check failed: cache"
Click to collapse
In the guide it mentions there may be problems using the USB 3.0 cable so I tried it with a USB 2.0 cable with the same results. I tried rebooting the phone to see if it had wiped it. Indeed, it had been wiped and is now going to the screen which says there was a problem updating the firmware and says to use the Software Recovery Assistant to restore the firmware.
I am not sure why this has happened. I feel like I followed the instructions to the letter. After looking at some different guides I am noticing that many have you put the phone into USB debugging mode which the guide I was following doesn't mention. Is this why it has failed. Is this strictly required?
I would like to get this device rooted, but now my number one priority is getting it back into a state where it will be more useful than the paperweight on my desk. I tried downloading Kies 3 which I read can restore the stock firmware on the phone. I was extremely annoyed when I realized that Kies 3 would not recognize my phone at all. It says that the device is not supported by Kies 3 and gives me a link to check support (which just brings me to the Kies download page which clearly states that my phone (Note 3) is supported. I even tried to download the original Kies software which will not even recognize the device enough to tell me it's not supported.
Can anyone point me to a way to restore my phone to factory settings? Can I download the stock firmware and flash it with Odin, will this work if I couldn't get the custom firmware to flash in Odin (possibly because of not setting USB debugging?).
EDIT: Note that, following the guide, I did not check which build number my phone is before running Odin, now I have no idea which it is and what stock firmware to download. Is there anyway to figure out which build my phone was on or which stock firmware I need to download?
EDIT: So it looks like my problem is similar to this problem posted on XDA. I followed the link in that thread to this guide to restore the stock firmware. However, it has three different downloads for different builds, I am not sure which I should download or if there is a way to figure it out. Will any of them work? Can I try them one at a time safely until one of them works. I don't want to mess things up any worse than I already have.. I downloaded the MI9 firmware from that page, but this is just a guess... Anyone have any idea?
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thank you very much! I wish I would have found your guide first. I flashed the MJE firmware, was able to successfully root using Kingo (after a few attempts). I also installed safestrap and the open source superuser app.
Now I just have to figure out what roms I want, looks like I can take advantage of the multiple rom slots and try a few before installing one into the stock rom slot.
Again, many thanks!
Odin to MJE Question
Hi, my phone is fully stock with MJE on it. To root my phone, would I need to install the MJE tar file and also use King or just the MJE file? So far, I have had no luck using Kingo to root my phone.
Thanks

Just Kingo should do it for you. I did this last week stock on mje. Make sure you have usb debugging enabled or it won't work. I also used Kingo 1.1.6 instead of 1.1.7 and I had no problem at all woth knox or anything. It worked like a charm.

I used 1.1.6 because I wasn't sure if their new version was going to automatically add a custom recovery and trip Knox. I was reading the comments on their facebook page (Kingoapp) and saw one that said it will trip knox but a few days later read that it was a option to install a custom recovery. Instead of taking a chance I downloaded the older one and used that. Also in the 1.1.7 comments there is a link to official Samsung drivers if you want to be sure to have the latest ones. There are links for all their versions on the fb page if anyone wants to try that route.
Rooting w/Kingo
Finally was able to get root! What I did was uninstall the Samsung drivers and re-install them. Thank goodness it's finished. I also just installed HyperDrive and Beans. It's kinda nice having a choice each time I turn the phone on.

Hello, I am having problems with rooting my galaxy note 3 model SM-N900R4 on US cellular. I followed the instructions on true-android.blogspot.com
My problem comes when It gets stuck after the root and stays to the title screen "Samsung Galaxy Note 3". There will be the Seandroid error In the top left corner too. I restart the phone by going to download mode and selecting cancel to reboot the phone. Everything passed in Odin 3.07 and i went to root checker after the reboot and saw that I'm not rooted. Please help, I'm on android 4.3 Stock.

Not necessarily but if you had one installed, you can just flash supersu to gain root.

Hi guys,
I'm new to this also did alot of reading before I post this thread.
I've a a Samsung GT-I9500 Tried connecting it with Odin or Sam kies they are not able to connect to device. Also noticed that my pc in device manager at portable devices it recognize it and give that it's a GT-I9500.
I wanted to root the device but was not able with Odin (reason that it does not connect) so I tried motochopper which worked for me and also detected the phone. Forgot to say I've installed USB driver for samsung galaxy s4 before trying to connect with odin also with Sam kies.\
After rooted with motochopper was able to dwnl titanium back up and root but now I'm stock at the part of flashing.
Now I want to flash my rom to get new firmware but I'm not able cause the Odin does not detect device. Also when I turn off phone to boot in download mode by pressing vol dwon , home button and power button. It tells me factory mode then a bunch of (guess) chinese menu option.
Because of this went to search if my device was original or fake and still not sure tried many things and apps which tells me that it original.
My whole question is what should I look at to let Odin connect with device.
Charles
Its a clone for sure. Go to Menu - Settings - More - About device and attach the screenshot for confirm it

In this case as I have a lone which I manage to root is there a way to still root it?

XDA dont give support clones. Sorry.
I followed the instructions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...b6-of1-n900v-note-3-verizon-oneclick-t3333569
I downloaded ArabicTools and set my phone to USB Debugging and plugged it into my computer running Windows 7. Once the computer found the phone I clicked on Read Phone Info and it got all the info the application needed. I then clicked Root and waited. It says Device Now Flashing, Please Wait and then nothing happens except more periods being added..............My phone never restarts or anything, it just sits there like nothing is happening. When I plug my phone in it says connected as Installer, and shortly after it says connected as media device, not sure if that matters, but I figured I would give as much info as possible to try and figure out the problem.
I have tried 3 different cords after reading thru comments that maybe the cord could be the issue. Any ideas?
Look on your phone screen for a USB debugging prompt/pop-up window and then it will continue with USB debugging. Make sure you're on 0f1 firmware as well before doing the bootloader unlock.

Yes you can ... if and only if your SM- N900V has a CID beginning with 0x15.
You have to unlock the bootloader to boot anything which is not Samsung-signed; this is true for both recoveries and ROM kernels.
To unlock, you have to be rooted. Read the entire unlock thread before you start in on the unlocking process.
