One of the main reasons I picked the defy was it's ruggedness, because I do potentially dangerous sports, but obviously there are limits to that ruggedness, and if you take a fall or something likely to break the phone, it may well have broken you - and a working phone comes in kind of handy at that point
So... with that in mind, can anyone recommend any decent hard cases? I thinking more along the lines of a hard pouch you slip it into, but may consider flip open ones or something that allows easy access to the touchscreen if it is tough enough.
Waterproofing not really an issue since the defy should be able to handle any streams or such I may fall into anyway.

Otterbox Commuter Case
Agreed on the Commuter Series. I expect although that it is going to make the phone much phatter than that it already is.
I work as an audio engineer at some places (school, local bars), which means I carry lots and lots of big flightcases. And I've to be kept in the loop. My last phone, an LG KS-20 died this way. As I was carrying a big flightcase, a corner tapped the LCD through my jeans, destroying it. So many appointments and numbers lost!
Note: I haven't got my Defy yet, I'm working things out on getting it.
i'm selling mine. dont like my phone being so bulky because i always put it in my pants pocket.
if you're interested, pm me.
I was using one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amzer-Silic...2OI6/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1303117510&sr=8-8 but it added too much bulk and it wasn't a particularly good fit even if it did offer decent protection.
I now use one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/iTALKonline...5F3S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303117510&sr=8-1 and it is a good tight fit and it doesn't bulk the phone up very much at all, my defy certainly feels better in my hand now being a bit heavier and a bit grippier, with this case i can slip it in and out of my jeans pocket without it getting stuck as well.
yea i use otterbox. i don't mind the bulky feel
There is a really nice two-piece alternative from case mate. I use it and I can't complain.

I ordered a few cases from China in eBay, but don't know now if they will have good fits for the micro usb slot and the earphone slot...
Kinda thinking about the Ottebox one, but ah, if it's so bulky.
Only problem about China is that it takes a while to arrive. Will post about it when they arrive.
Cheers,
Andrew
I want to use a special case, but i'm wandering if it has some problems with cooling this way. If i play Dungeon Defenders for example, the phone gets pretty hot, and with a case i'm afraid it will get even hotter, because i'm not sure how the heat will be transfered.
I got a tpu case from ebay and some silicon ones.
The tpu is great but the silicon were really hard to get in and out of the pocket.
I recommend the tpu with a red thing on the back, which you can rip out and it slides well and also fits very well on tue device.
Cheers,
Andrew

it's nice to have cause i dont think the defy will resist falling onto the street, when biking...^^ the case will give it more toughness =))
I've had the Ottterbox case for months now. Everytime I take the case off for some reason it drives me nuts now because the phone just feels too small. I work in a precast concrete plant and end up getting pretty dirty by the end of the day. Thankfully this phone stays a lot cleaner now then other phones I had that I didn't have the Otterbox case.
Just scored this case from Amazon - only $30usd - quite well made and really fits our tablets well. Does not block either camera or light sensor - and my mic seems to be working fine with the tablet in the case.

i second this case. Since I have bought it I have been more than happy with its quality and functionality. I also have had people remark about it, and exclaim when they realized they payed more for a lower quality case.
Is this case available on ebay??....

I'm also going to say, having just got my roocase today and having returned one of the official Acer cases, this case is great. It's pretty bulky, but it's a good kind of bulk, and it feels extremely sturdy. I wish it could lay flatter but at an angle.. as it is, it'll go to about forty degrees from flat, and thirty would've been better, but it's still way better than the official case unless you really want something lightweight, which I do have to give that one to Acer.

I can't figure out if this is different from the rooCase "Slim Fit".
I don't like the typical bulk of the full folio-style cases, I'm wondering if the "Slim Fit" case (or the Blurex, as they look almost identical) is a nice middle ground, as the Acer case has not been received well for its durability/life expectancy (and smell/fuzz collection attributes).
Do any of these cases ship to india??

I recently purchased the RooCase from Amazon, and after about a week of use I'm still extremely pleased with it.
I posted a review on Amazon about it.
I looked at a few other cases, but this one is really great quality of materials and construction and is very well designed.
It does add a little bulk, but as stated it s the good kind of bulk that tells you you don't have to guard your tablet now.
How about this one:www dhgate com/pv-ff80808130ff1696013107bbfd385168.html
Any one used it and can post a review?
Sorry i'm a new here
Why not a slim fit case?
Sllim fit case for my Iconia...
Probably because we didn't want the slim fit case? (Thought it is also nice)
(There is a thread for that one, BTW.)
After carrying mine around for a while I'm still extremely pleased with it.
This thing is a winner.
Just got this case yesterday and all I can say so far is that I love it. Secure, great quality and very practical. Highly recommended.
Lets discuss on the casings for Nexus⁴ attactive(Cool Design) ones and protective(Flip Cases) ones! Please do provide names or links or pictures for it
Nexus⁴ is indeed a hot device, its worth my waiting like a drug addict everyday bugging my gmail for the shipping notification.
there r few cases about the glass at the back experiencing minor cracks,
so i think its better to protect it even though it looks gorgeous without casing and so hard to get a new one
i already had this Nillkin Flip Case at Tmall on standby, bought it from china's "amazon", tmall.com, their original factory's online store
Then i saw Cruzerlite's Androidified A2 TPU Case For Nexus⁴(Teal) attracted by its Android design,
while scrolling around i saw another nice oneXdadevelopers's CASE for Nexus⁴, also by Cruzerlite.
Both are looking cool, but before i buy them i wanna know if there are other casings with Cool Designs out there? Since i chose Cruzerlite because of its designs. I want my phone to look nice even with cases on.
I also need Flip Cases (Book Style)(prefer leather ones, because Nillkin's surface didnt convice me and it gets dirty easily those who had Nillkin flip case will know about this) and as what you all know, Flip Cases for Nexus 4 is extremely hard to find
what i want is 1 Cool Looking, and 1 Flip Case(Book Style) , both are hard to find,
other casings like diztronics' simple design or other cases that i found in this forum board even though they may give protection to device but their design didnt appeal to me(not to insult)
thats why i wanna find out if there are better ones, those who knows of Cool Looking, and Flip Case please do tell me about it, simple user review if possible :highfive:
I too have the xda case on order even though I have a set up I am currently satisfied with. I have now, the Diztronic Ultra hard thin that doesn't cover the top or bottom of the phone like the Diztronic TPU does. It works for me because I can now use the Seidio Surface spring holster made for the GNEX without much of an issue. The thiness of the shell works for me but not for all, so you'll need to decide what you are comfortable with.
According to your list, you are looking at tpu all the way. For the choices listed, which I have most of them except for the Cruzerlite models, I would go for the Diztronic tpu. It's pretty darn thin and the only negative is that the logo on the tpu is a bit glossy for my taste, but you get used to it . Happy shopping!

urm not necessarily tpu, im looking towards more good appearance cases thats what cruzerlite design attracted me
my plan is to use 1 nice looking flipcase for full protection, and another nice looking which only covers back  as long as its looking good even when not naked :highfive:
I love my poetic bumper, I had an sline tpu case and it was ok but the power button became increasingly difficult to press.

I got the Poetic case when it was for under $4 and I absolutely love it! I am wallet-free as of now, since all I carry is the phone and the case which holds 3 cards and cash. It takes time for the leather to stretch and accomodate 3 cards, but now its the best thing I bought, well, after my N4 lol
The only downer is its a pain to use this case by just one hand, and taking a picture without the aid of the other hand is next to impossible.
So I've ordered the amCase(TM) Slim fit case for Google Nexus 4 -Matte Black for under $3 including shipping. Should be here tomorrow/Tuesday, so will update my post.

Well, I ordered the Nexus 4 last week and have been lurking all over these forums since then. I need some help with picking a case. I have narrowed my choices down to the three very different ones listed below this paragraph. As you can see they all offer different pros and cons (at least to me). I'm trying to decide if function (keeping the phone from shattering) is more important than aesthetics (showing off that beauty and sleekness). Since I just dropped $350 for this device, I have been leaning heavily towards the former. I'm definitely open to other suggestions and I'm willing to spend up to $50. These are just the three that caught my eye.
Poetic Borderline Bumper Yellow- $10
The Good: Minimal bulk, I like the stylish yellow, low price, shows off the back
The Bad: Poor user reviews but Poetic claim it's been resolved, while it does have minimal bulk since it is just a bumper that means less protection, the poor reviews state that it falls apart in days or weeks. I know I should be weary but I love the look of the yellow on black with full view of the back.
Ringke Fusion - $16
The Good: Covers the back but still shows it off, low price, not much bulk, better protection than just a bumper
The Bad: I haven't been able to find many reviews. Reports that the clear back having that "wet" look.
Seidio Active with Kickstand - $35
The Good: the best protection out of these cases listed, has a kick stand (which I miss from my HTC EVO days), comes in many colors, I have one now for my Nexus S 4G and it's protected it well even though I'm not a huge fan of the bulk.
The Bad: Somewhat expensive, really bulky compared to the other two above, sort of ugly, the kickstand is cool but it does add some bulk. Reports of the wireless charging not working with it on (this isn't isn't an issue yet since I don't have a Qi but I plan to someday)
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance to all who have read this.

From the three and you mentioned you wanted for protection, then Seidio is the way to go. I have always bought Active cases for my tablets and phones except this one. I haven't a need for that yet. I have had it for my past Sensation, Kindle Fire, and now Nexus 7. It's my daily case for my N7, but for the Sensation, it was my travel case.
In the later months, I opted for the "hybrid tpu" case for the Sensation which exposed the back, much like the Fusion. I am getting the Fusion now and getting a holster from Seidio to fit.
Bottom line, for travel and good protection, I'd go Active. Middle of the road would be the Fusion. I preface that by saying I have yet to receive my Fusion yet so take that with a grain of salt for now.
The hybrid case biggest fault are the feel of the buttons. Not wet. I believe the wet look come from those using screen protectors in the back.

Why didn't you just cut it yourself? Easy to do and no waiting time and of course it's for free
For those who have the Seidio active case and want to use their wireless charger? The issue is the metal kickstand which may or may not work with the Orb but I would not use it on my charging mat. I have the surface with metal kickstand. I bought the Acase superleggera pro case for $15 and it is similar to the seidio active and it works fine with my charging mat. I missed the holster so I asked a buddy (who has the active combo) to let me see if the Acase fit in the seidio active holster and guess what? It fits! It's a tiny bit tighter on the sides but still slides in and out pretty easily and the spring loaded clip works fine.
For those in this situation you may just want to spring for the case for 15 if you wirelessly charge.
http://www.amazon.com/Acase-Superle...58&sr=8-1&keywords=acase+superleggera+nexus+4
Which of these cases do you prefer? I've been considering both. Wireless charging is not an issue for me and will be carrying in my pocket
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Just to be clear I have the surface which is less bulky than the active and the superleggera is closer to the active.
That said I would say the seido has a slight edge in quality however when you factor in the price, the superleggera is a better value!
The surface case is slimmer, still offers good protection and had a good grip. If you do not intend to charge wirelessly it is what I recommend.
You can get the best price on android central and put "save 15" in the coupon box to save 15%

I got the case you are considering but it has yet to arrive in the post which is annoying as i won't take my N4 outside without some sort of case.
Will let you know once i get it which should hopefully be later today or tomorrow.
There is no case that won't compromise its looks, simple as that. Even with the Ringke Fusion.. sure, you can see the back, but through plastic. And the rest is still TPU.. and in reality it doesn't look as flawless and nice as in the renders. There's always a compromise.
You could go for more minimalistic cases such as the quicksand ones. I'm currently using one of them and I really like its look and feel because it doesn't change it as much (I also have a diztronic tpu case which I'll only be using for when I expect rougher conditions, e.g. travel, hiking or whatever). But it comes at the cost of less protection for the device.
It's a matter of what you prioritize and what risks you're willing to take for better look and feel.

that is one ugly cheap case...
It's certainly cheap, but I much prefer it to my diztronic tpu case (http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=46_76&products_id=303). The material feels very nice and not plastic-y (a bit like jeans, I'd say) and it hardly adds any bulk, which tpu cases do. I also really dislike the shiny border around the edge most tpu cases have, cause that does look pretty cheap.
I personally ordered it cause I was looking for a different case and this one seemed like a very low-risk option, and I ended up liking it a lot. Your mileage may vary, obviously.

I had a similar type case on my nexus for a few months and it was great. Had a really great feel to it and it actually looks pretty darn sharp when it's on the phone. Doesn't look cheap at all. :good:
thanks, but I think I'll stick with the Ringke Fusion case. I like the clear back.
U can't go wrong with the oem bumper. It offers protection on all edges and prevents both front and back from laying directly on surfaces. I've had it on my white N4 since purchase and i don't have a scratch. Not to mention I am constantly subject to compliments and questions peeked by its sexy appearance.

I personally would go with bumper case and maybe add a screen protector on both sides (something like Ghost Armor or Zagg or dBrand skin if you want to go a bit more expensive, OR just get something like XtremeGuard for the back for a cheap alternative - XtremeGuard costs me about $2 for front and back  )

Your phone keep with the original look protected, if you want a litle more prtection 2 skins one on the back and other on the front.

Ditto. Unless you're extraordinarily clumsy, the OEM bumper should provide plenty of protection. I've had my Nexus 4 with bumper since December of last year and it has survived many drops. It's even survived a drop onto concrete, complete with a few bounces, with no scratch. The crack that my Nexus 4 has came from when I took the case off momentarily and then it dropped about a foot and a half onto the soft part of an open binder. >_<
OEM bumper + front and back clear skins. Everything else is hideous.
Currently using the Incipio Feather, but I have to admit that the N4 pretty much only looks good caseless.
Tried the official bumper, but it just didn't stick either.

Exactly. Coming from a person who has never liked or had cases on their devices - I just got the OEM bumper in the mail yesterday, and I'm stunned at how good it looks. It actually makes the phone look nicer with the aluminium accents, and protects it rather well.
What do you suggest?
Alright so I'm a little late to the Nexus 4 party, but after much delay, I finally decided to upgrade from my archaic Vibrant and order a shiny new N4. Although it hasn't come in just yet, I was interested to know what cases you guys might suggest. You see here's my dilemma... I know for a fact that the Ringke Slim and other like cases are a major no-no for me. They offer too little protection and from what I've heard, leave the very top and bottom of the device exposed. I would get the OEM bumper as it's very attractive, but I've read many, many, many reviews that note its fragility--specifically around the USB port, which apparently is prone to cracking. I'm also considering the Ringke Fusion as it seems to be a popular choice, or the possibility of going with a wallet style case, as I won't need a screen protector then.
However I'm very torn, as there are so many options and so many drawbacks...
What do you guys think? Is the OEM bumper really all that fragile? Does it break as a result of removing the phone from it or does it crack completely on its own? Should I not even consider the OEM bumper case and go with something much more durable (i.e. the Ringke Fusion, wallet case)? Should I just go naked!?!? (referring to the phone of course )
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to hearing some feedback!
