Sorry guys, I haven't found a solution yet, but I'm brand new.
I've a Verizon xt907
98.30.1.xt907.verizon.en.us
build: 9.8.1q-94-1
date: 2013 sept. 9
It's rooted actually, but I cannot unlock it.
I tried Motopocalypse, and after all, booting in Fastboot mode, it still says me LOCKED.
I tried something and I got stocked in fastboot, so I used the HouseOfMoto utility to recover it and it worked fine, so I assume moto drivers are just fine.
I have read somewhere that motorola has locked again the bootloader after some fw version...
How can I unlock it?
CM is waiting for me...
Thank you in advance

It's nothing new. Your phone is on a system version that is 2 OTAs past the system version that was able to be unlocked.
It's ok. So I will stay with my poor stock... thank you

Hello,
I've just installed the leaked 4.1.2 JB ROM.
The phone boots up but it is asking me for "sim network unlock pin".
I know for a fact that my phone is not locked. I purchased it from a private store and had installed 2.3.5, 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 stock ROMs of different carriers.
I even switched between two different carriers without a problem.
Any idea what I can do?
Someone told me it might be the modem file that is "confused"? Has that got anything to do with it?
Thank you for your help!

Try to search the main thread, a few mentioned solution there. Didn't pay attention to the solution so not sure what it was, but I think it was an app from the store.

Thanks for replying. Most apps require root. I'm not a noob but still not an expert. Any ideas on how I get root access?
Or look at the thread about being stuck with sim lock. It is pretty active and here in general.

You can get root by flashing Philz kernel for recovery. It can be flashed through stock recovery.
Not sure about rollback to ICS, but my guess it that it'll work since the problem is caused by software

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I'm sorry. I guess I'm a bit excited.
At first, I was a nervous wreck. I actually thought I'm never going to unlock my phone and that I've screwed things up.
It didn't help when I rolled back to ICS and the "SIM network unlock pin" appeared either.
Eventually, I downloaded an app and paid about 2.5$ to have it unlocked.
Then, I decided to try installing JB one more time and now it works and everything is working smoothly!
Can't thank you enough.
Thank you for your kind help!

Can I root and unlock the bootloader on 98.16.1 ?
Thanks, and sorry if this qualifies as a "use the search function" question - for the record I tried that route.
Okay, 96 views and no responses, so it must be a stupid question... I just don't know if that's a yes or no, and I've been Googling, but no one talks in terms of Moto firmware when talking about the bootloader...
Looks like that's the older firmware, so you should be able to. Try rooting it first. If that works, you ought to be able to unlock the boot loader as well.

You could reflash the software back to before the update with the KXZ firmware and try the process over again. Depends if the hassle is worth it to you.

This process is just flashing the firmware through rsdlite which won't happen because it's a downgrade. I tried.

I did the update and protected root but my wifi was messed up and wouldn't turn on. I did RSDLite to downgrade and redo it all and it worked fine.

I'm confused as to why someone wouldn't just unlock their bootloader if they are going to be making changes to their system. I understand the warranty issue but who uses that? Most people go through asurion and they won't even notice. Haha

Your wifi was only screwed up within Recovery mode (write off) correct?
I have a similiar issue. Whether its affecting other things or not, i dont know.
But what do you mean you restored via RSD lite and did it all over again and it was fine?
How did you ujse RSD lite to reflash the firmware since you got the updated OTA, it wont let you downgrade

My wifi was messed up in any mode. It wouldn't turn on for some reason. I restored the 17.51 firmware after the botched update messed up my wifi and it worked fine and I actually ended up doing it 2 times since a titanium backup messed up my phone. I was definitely on the 17.54 update. It definitely let me downgrade. How would you like me to prove it to you?

Me too. My wifi is FUBARED in recovery. It's because we don't have the new kernel and to be technical were using the old system/recovery in our "recovery mode" I think that's why it's working in the regular mode and not recovery mode..... Or that's what I understand. Though I'm probably wrong.
When I upgraded I got a failed upgrade after final boot. Although it still says the newest version. I'm tempted to RSD back like some others have just to try but I don't want a paper weight.

While I'm kind of excited to see SafeStrap out, and updated (fixes phone/data, etc...), I'm still hoping some attempt is in the works for unlock on at&t.
Regardless, there aren't any custom roms to really flash anyways.
Had I an unlocked bootloader, I'd have a custom kernel in the works, and maybe some custom roms with some TeamAcid love.
Come see, come saw... Patience wins all.

Everything has the potential to go bad. So, if you're not willing to accept that, modifying is not for you. With that being said, Sam's update is easy to use if you follow the directions. Once updated, root and unlocking the bootloader are also easy.

You're outta luck. You ahould have flashed .10 first and unlocked the bootloader before you hop between the ROM version... .15 version permanently lock the bootloader.
EDIT: I looked at the pictures, however, I am suspicious of the claim. The reason being, the bootloader will check the kernel version, and if it's not agreed with the bootloader security key file (tz.mbn), the bootloader will refuse to touch it. If anyone else with the locked phone tries this harebrained experiment and come out without a softbrick, I may have to eat my sock.

yeah when i flashed over i "accidentally" did the wrong version (tut linked me to a wrong version I suppose) and now im piss out of luck, but like i said im not worrying about it since s3 within a few weeks or so. Hopefully one day it's able to Root though B)
EDIT: what exactly are you suspicious of? The claim that I went from 4.1.2 flashed to 4.4.2 but on .15 then down to .10?
If the eventual RAZR M update gets screwed up like the first one, it may get unlocked but I have grave doubt because Verizon have learned their lesson on this one: root = bootloader unlock, at least in the case of early Kit Kat update.
fellas i have received two moto M today and seems like this cant either root because this stupid 9mb of .15 update, since the kernal is after jun 3

well any new exploit around the coner to try?
No root exploits right now, unfortunately. It's getting harder and harder to exploit the Kit Kat.
