Shield games in Stereoscopic 3D via the MantaMod driver - Shield General

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your feedback from our earlier posts on the MantaMod driver release with dynamic texture replacement and unlocked free-camera capability.
Here's an update for the community that we've just released MantaMod v1.3 which features the ability to convert games to stereoscopic 3D. So if you have an Nvidia Shield, and will like to play Angry Birds or Dead Trigger on your 3D TV, in full stereoscopic 3D, you can now do so with the MantaMod driver.
As with other MantaMod features, there is no need to change the original game APK package at all, because MantaMod seamlessly handles all the 2D to 3D conversion at the graphics driver layer before drawing the images on screen.
If there's any particular game you'd like to try out in stereoscopic 3D, we'll be happy to support it, drop us a note to let us know.

Very interesting work!
I don't have much use for it, but I hope that you/your team will figure out lots of other cool things in the future! :good:

How about oculus support

We'll definitely be interested to do something with the Oculus Rift, but haven't had a chance to look into that possibility in detail so far.
Anyone know if the Oculus is going to be released running Android as a standalone device? Saw some news about that, though not definitive. If it is, it should be straightforward for us to get the MantaMod drivers running on it.

This is great cant wait to try it!
I love 3d movies, photos and gaming.
Will most games work in 3d or does it have to be supported by the driver?
Some games is like to see riptide 1 and 2, afterburner, maybe some emulators n64 or ps1(retroarch),FPse(psx), reicast(dreamcast) Doom GLES

Dead trigger gives me only yellow buggy screen.
Can you do more games in side by side mode? Or even emulators? This is great vor VR headsets like the dive!

I don't think PS1 emulators will work well in stereo 3D with the way the rendering works on the PS1.
There is no real z-depth like we know from most PC games.

This would work for the Google Cardboard right?
At Google I/O, they made a super-budget VR headset similar to the Dive, called Cardboard. This headset would work for MantaMod correct? And if so, which version of it, because I am confused as to how it would integrate with say Limelight for example. If this does work, with Limelight, with the Cardboard Dive-alternative, I'm going to suggest it to everybody I know. It would be great to see that happen. The Viiwok Deva HMD that looked pretty cool, was essentially a Dive headset too, but Cardboard is a real worthy addition to this mod if it works with any application.
https://developers.google.com/cardboard/

where is be downloaded it has been taken off google market and aso no where on the net had links to the download as the links are all dead ?
hate it when good software is released and then it just disappears as though it never existed ?????
thanks

FAQ:
What is netplay?
Netplay lets you play multiplayer with a friend who is on another android device via either bluetooth or wifi.
What are shaders?
Shaders are filters that go on top of the gameplay to try change or improve the graphic quality, there are tonnes of shaders to choose from so if you dont like one you can always find another somewhere online. Its also important to note that some shaders can slow down emulation.
Can I help with this guide?
Sure! Just add you emulator of choice in the comments and fill it out using the template below (remember to remove the bits in the brackets!). I will add any emulators filled out in this format to the op.
(Emulator name)
Pros: (whats great about it)
Cons: (any downsides)

Just want to add a bit about the SNES emulators...we wary of any that you need to pay for. Some of them use Snes9X as their base and the license agreement for Snes9X says it needs to be distributed for free.
Snes9X EX is the one to use, and I believe is the only one that licneses Snes9X properly.. For some reason it's been removed from the market but you can find it by googling. A good advantage is that you don't need to map the XPlay's buttons manually, it's already done for you, which is nice. Great compatibility, emulates most games perfectly though I have noticed some stutters and occasional slowdown in A Link to the Past. Donkey Kong Country also runs noticeably faster than in should, and I haven't found a way to slow it back down to normal speed yet.
Snes AD is also pretty good. Free on the market. I'm not sure what it's based on though. Also great compatibility. Doesn't have the problem with DKC running too quickly. Some logo screens don't work properly. You'll need to map the buttons yourself.
Thanks for the info

Yep im pretty aware of the fakes, most of them are just rip offs of snesoid.
When I do a write up about the snes emulators I will put up snesoid, snes ad, snes9xEX and snesdroid since its the only snes emulator for android that supports shaders.
What's the advantage to supporting shaders? I thought they were a 3d thing.

Think of them as a filter that goes on top of the game that can do things like smooth out the graphics a bit so it doesn't look as pixely or anti-aliasing shaders so objects dont have jagged edges. They basically try to make the old games look better.
One of my fave shaders for PC emulators is the cartoon shaders for epsxe. They make PS1 games look cel-shaded.
Vid of crash bandicoot with cartoon shaders
awesome post, i've booked marked this one to keep tabs on all the emulators! thumbs up!

They are all clones of gameboid, but please do post here if you find any that are not clones.
Edit: did find some legitimate ones that were not gameboid clones but they were all pretty terrible. No real advantages over gameboid.
Most of the emulators I post here have some sort of advantage over each other.

Can we not start with this stupid argument again please, snes9x is open source and covered by the GPL. Under the GPL rules there is nothing wrong with people using the source, making there own emulator and charging.

Please don't ask for warez or where you can download them, It's forbidden in the rules, the only roms you can legally use are ones ripped from your own owned games, the same goes for bios's

Yep what Androhero said, you cant ask for roms or bios. Im sure somebody could tell you what emu you need though.
I googled the game and it appears to be for the neo geo and arcades. so you either need a neogeo emulator (I could only find neo geo pocket) or a mame emulator. Ive never played the neo geo or any arcade games so I dont really know what would be the best emulators to use sorry.
Also I really hope NullDCe gets released at some point but by looking at the devs track record that might never happen, he ported his emulator to multiple other consoles including the psp but he never publicly released them.

Xperia Z Gaming Thread!

Hello there before my XZ I had a xperia play but because of its outdated hardware(still a great phone though) I needed a upgrade but gaming is a big factor on my phone and I couldn't find a gaming Thread for the xperia z and since android has so many awesome games and the z is capable of handling these very well I thought to make a dedicated gaming Thread!
If your like me and have a moga pocket/pro I will also mark compatible moga games also, and if you request I will upload my GKP files for gamekeyboard for touch only games that I have set up with my moga pro!
I would include games with ps3 controller support too but I don't have a ps3 (Xbox FTW) so if people are kind enough to inform me I will add this too =)
And please also tell me what games your playing and I will try and and include them aswell!
I'll start the list with my games!
Aftermath XHD (MOGA)
Fun little zombie shooter game with great gameplay
Asphalt 7 (Moga)
Runs great everyone knows this game
Looking forward to asphalt 8
Alien vs Predator (MOGA)
The classic films made into a android game and really well too can play this for hours and nice graphics too
Bounty hunter: Black dawn
Funky fun FPS nice graphics and fun gameplay and I love the music not played it that much yet but hoping for MOGA support soon! BUT trying to set up a gkp
The Bards Tale (MOGA)
Has me in stitches laughing a fun RPG with good gameplay and a beautiful game aswell (I downloaded the 3.5GB Hd version though)
Bladeslinger
Beautiful graphics but I find combat quite repetitive and slow looks good with some cool looking bosses items are a bit overpriced though
I do like the swipe to slice with your sword though!
Bounty Arms (HID?)
Absolutely beautiful graphics but that's about it really gameplay is abit meh, supposed to be HID support it wouldn't recognise my moga in HID mode though but others have reported it does work
Brootherhood of violence (MOGA)
Nice graphics not had much time to play it though!
Carmageddon
Retro graphics (to me anyway) Fun, violent and destructive! Will set up gkp asap
Call of duty: Black ops zombies
Some graphical glitches in menus on my XZ but in game runs fine screaming for controller support though! I have set up a gkp but it's not perfect will upload if requested
Conduit HDMOGA)
Appears as incompatible with the z but does work flawlessly download apk (it's free) then purchase full game through app (£3.21)
One of my favourite games atm nice graphics and gameplay and I like the storyline aswell
Crazy taxi (MOGA)
Great game from a great console and ported to android it a great fashion smooth as butter looks beautiful and is still as fun/crazy as I remember!
Dead trigger (MOGA)
If you don't have this game go get it now it's free! Nice graphics (on max) good gameplay (can get repetitive though) but loads of guns to get/upgrade and with some crazy guns aswell!
Drift mania 2 (MOGA)
If you don't have a MOGA controller I would skip this one, but there is a light version to try!
Ok graphics but what's more fun than drifting? - actually a lot
Dungeon hunter 4 (MOGA)
Another fremium gameloft game with nice graphics, a ok story line and hours of hacking and slashing. Does get better the better armour/weapons you have.
Epoch
Nice graphics unique(ish) gameplay and pretty nice graphics can get abit repetitive sometimes though.
Expandable rearmed (MOGA)
Never played it on the dreamcast and I don't know why! One of my (many) favourite games atm and playing with the MOGA makes it so much better!
Final Fantasy 3
The DS port not played it much (my girlfriend does though) and she loves it, very cute graphics
Gangster Vegas (4)
Good graphics, massive map, gameplay not too bad (but I'm waiting on controller support) some bugs as all new gameloft games but pretty solid game overall
Gangster Rio (3) (MOGA)
It's ok, graphics are ok, gameplay is pretty poor though I wouldn't recommend as there are better style games now
GTA 3 (MOGA)
^^ Nuff said. But plays great and still as good as it was back in the day
GTA Vice city (MOGA)
^^ again Nuff said, completed on my xperia play and again (on max graphics) on my xperia z
If you don't have this games you must get it!!
House of the dead overkill: Lost Reels
I love this game, my favourite touch screen game so far, tried to map with gamekeyboard to no avail, but still it's got nice graphics, good gameplay and I can play for hours and is very repayable. I highly recommend
Max Payne (MOGA)
Never played it on any other platforms so can't compare it to them but still love this game with my moga, a deep story line and can be very chilling at time (walking across blood level) Another highly recommended game
Modern combat 4 (MOGA)
Most people have heard or seen this but it's the best COD like game we have until MC5 (maybe not best FPS) campaign is quite short but it's all about online! (to me anyways)
NOVA 3 (MOGA)
Halo clone really and pretty good game made better by MOGA controller campaign is quite long but online isn't as good as MC4
Need for speed: Most wanted
Screaming out for controller support (it is xplay optimised) but ok racing game non the less, could have made it a lot better though (free roam) Nice graphics and sound
Order and chaos online
Again screaming for controller support, but great game I enjoy playing it (can be addictive) even if they do want you to but in game currency can be achieved without
Ravensword:shadowlands (MOGA)
Loove this game it's not a perfect RPG and is quite short and the storyline is abit meh, but you will still enjoy travelling the world and exploring the beautiful scenery and upgrading your character, it's the android skyrim until they (crescent moon games) release a sequel
Rayman Jungle run
Rayman! It's looks great on our 1080p display and is a great time killer
Real boxing (MOGA)
Beautiful graphics, pretty good gameplay, I like the career mode which is quite long 60ish fights. Multiplayer would be nice though--might just be me but I find it harder to dodge with the moga.
Real racing 3
Pretty boring (to me anyways) at first and without spending real money, but once you unlock the supercars becomes a lot more fun. Still a good racing simulator with nice graphics
-I have gkp for this aswell if you want it just ask=)
Resident evil 4
Got a English version of game from Internet, pretty good love the resident evil series so nice to play on my phone
Real football 13 (MOGA)
Nice graphics, gameplay pretty terrible though and no moga analogue support fifa 12 is better
Ricky charmichael's motocross
Love this game purely for the Multiplayer, really fun and competitive, good graphics
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes I know I overuse brackets (haha)
Sorry if I go on about the MOGA a lot too but I do love it...
Would like to hear others opinions about games listed too!
!!!! More games incoming!!!
Please suggest things to make it better improve the list and also tell me what games your playing!!!
Only a small amount of my games, I will constantly update list with new games and update reviews the more I play them.

When I saw that you came from the xperia Play,I had to contribute to this thread...I still love the phone and think its the most underrated device ever, especially now that nvidia came out with project shield which is the stupidest thing ever but thats off topic...
Anyways some of my current games:
Mini Motor Racing Xperia
-Great gameplay, easy but thats what I want from a mobile game.
Kingdom Rush
-Fun tower defense game, looks great in full hd and is just the right amount of challenging
Jetpack Joyride
-It was great on the xperia play, but still awesome on a 5'' screen
Slingshot Racing
-Its cool and all,but gets boring pretty quickly,I mostly play it with friends now

I Refuse to play games that do not save your progress amongst devices. Its by far and away my biggest bugbear with android.
thus i'm stuck playing games like candy crush and temple run 2.
As soon as developers get off their fat lazy asses and start allowing cloud saves, then i will start parting with my hard earned cash and playing more involved and better games.
But until then, they can go do one. I ain't wasting my time and money on a game, only to have to start all over again on a different device.
if anyone knows if there is a a definitive list of android games that allows you to cloud save, please provide a link. thanks.

Doom 3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein played with an Ipega or PS3 pad (depending on whether I'm at work or at home), plus just about every emulator going. Like you guys I upgraded from a PLAY but still use that a lot too.
Waiting for the next update for Project S.T.A.L.K.E.R; one of my favourite games on the PC being ported to Android.
Anyone figured out how to map hard keys to NFS Most Wanted? Still use my PLAY for this game as the touchscreen controls don't cut it for me.
Despicable me, Airport scanner, men in black 3, subway surfers are some really nice games

I'm pretty sure I downloaded it through Sony Select when the EA Games 90 Days for Free offer was on, though I can't see it listed now. The Google Play version is still incompatible with the Z, as you probably know.
The 90 days offer must have expired as I just paid another £5 to continue playing it on my Z...and still without joypad support (I must be mad).
You could try the method in this link, though I can't vouch for whether it works or not:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275862
There is a version of NFS MW with Joypad support (HID) out there
But the bad news is that it's from the Samsung app store and so will need to find someone with a Samsung device and transfer it manually.
I managed to get a copy from my other half's galaxy s4 and works fine on my Z (I own the Google Play version but as not compatible and does not have pad support what's the point of using that one).
More info if want yourself - The version is v1.5.01 but was offered as a free exclusive offer on the Samsung app store (not sure if same version still on the market but you may be able to find elsewhere).
I belive this version was used also for Samsung to demo there new external controller but it works perfectly with any HID controller (Need to change to the controller option in the settings to activate it)
EDIT - Here's the version demoed at a show (Video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZyUOgT8RAM&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Just wish E.A would make controller support a mandatory option in all there games as seams them and Square Enix are the last big company developers to see that people want to play with other options then just touchscreen.
Hope by this helps

Awesome Thank You! Yea excited to see more apps updated to work with the mojo. Really impressed by the power of the little guy.
Hello, I was wondering about these games.. Modern Combat 4, Dead on Arrival 2, NOVA 3, Dungeon Hunter 4? They are all listed on TegraZone and are controller enabled, so they should work right?

Not all games in the Tegra Zone are downloadable out of the play store for the Mojo. The Tegra Zone refers to apps that are designed to work with the Tegra gpu not specifically non touch screen interfaces. So amusingly the Tegra Zone app isn't available for the Mojo in the play store yet.
Nova 3 is on the list. I'll check the other games later tonight.

Oh I see.. well there has to be another way to get the apk's and that will work on the Mojo.. I'm considering buying one and i'd like to know if atleast MC4, Dungeon Hunter 4, and Dead on arrival 2 is compatible. If not it might be more worthwhile to get a Moga and a MHL cable.

We're working with Gameloft to get support for the C.T.R.L.R into their games and for them to update the manifest so that they appear on M.O.J.O. - Real Football 2013 just got updated so that's now on the list, MC4 is due shortly and Dungeon Hunter 4 will be available early next year, according to their info. There are many more titles coming and anything new from Gameloft that supports controllers should have support for M.O.J.O. and the C.T.R.L.R when they launch.
Dead On Arrival 2 is a bit of an odd one as it was available on M.O.J.O. a month or so ago but a recent update must have altered the manifest and resulted in it no longer appearing on M.O.J.O.. We've contacted the developers but had no response so far - it does work with the C.T.R.L.R though so were you to sideload the APK then it would work fine.
All of the .EMU apps are compatible and buttons are able to be mapped properly.
You mention office suite and archos video player. Do the paid versions also show up (I bought them in the past and would prefer to use the complete versions).
As for Archos not allowing the codecs there is a third party codec solution for archos, "Archos Video All Codecs". Does that one work?
Does SE Explorer work? (By work I mean show up in the play store, and if so is that including the unlock key?)
Other apps I am curious about (whether the piad versions show up in the app store):
Poweramp
VidTrim Pro
Autodesk Sketchbook (either the "mobile" or "pro" version, it would be more for viewing the stuff done on the tablet on a bigger screen to check it out).
Textmaker
AndrOpen Office
As I said, I'm more interested whether they show up in the store for easy installation as they're not exactly touch reliant and generally work well with a mouse.
Thanks for all your hard work with this list which is helpful for people who already have the MOJO and those interested in buying it (like me).
@solsearch:
Archos (full) is there and works great, the free codec pack isn't compatible, though. MadCatz supplies us with MX Player Pro through their website. I don't like it as much, but it'll do.
The only office program I've purchased is OfficeSuite 7 Pro, and it is natively compatible and works wonderfully.
Sketchbook Pro isn't available, though.

Thanks. I can always export the stuff from sketchbook so it just would have been nice but not a necessity.
I've purchased more than one office app because none of them are quite perfect. Though in my opinion OfficeSuite 7 Pro and Textmaker are the better ones (but with different strengths, which is why I tend to use Textmaker more). But since AndrOpen Office came out and it's free it should be fine, especially since you can just rip the APK from free files no problem.

Another of the HyperDevBox strategy RPGs works well: Agarest War. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hyperdevbox.agarestwar I was able to install it through Play Store and it lets you map the CTRL^R however you want (but doesn't seem to recognize the triggers). I started the game but I'm not a big fan of SRPGs. Luckily, it was on sale, and quite affordable. (I think the normal price is one million dollars. Must be good!)

How did you get the buttons on the CTRLR to map? I couldn't figure it out. I tried options and put it in Key mode and it just doesn't register.
Also I can't get controller mode to work on Bard's Tale. Souls Craft seems to work perfectly fine.

The Bard's Tale is fine - just tested it to make sure and the CTRLR works perfectly in Gamesmart Mode.
I have a short question, but it would be helpful for developers.
I've contacted Speed Software to make the " Root Explorer " downloadable with M.O.J.O, and the developers of Dreamcast emulator " reicast ".
Both respond on my mails, but they don't know what might be necessary to change, that the Play Store allowed a download.
I want to help this problem fixing for more software, but need some more hints, what specially caused the store filter to flag software as not compatible ?

OpenGL ES Interception Driver for Modding / Control of Games on Ouya

Hi everyone,
Wanted to let the community know that we've created a game modding driver called MantaMod, which works directly at the OpenGL ES stream by intercepting it before passing on to the actual Android device gpu driver. Since it works at the driver layer, control or modding of Android games can be done without needing to change the original game APK package.
We are a small team and haven't had a chance to try it out ourselves on the Ouya device though, so it'll be great if someone could give it a shot. Any feedback or 'wishlist' for desired features / supported games is much appreciated! Do drop us a note at [email protected], we'll be glad to hear from you.
Some background: Things that can be done with MantaMod include:
- Texture Replacement: run-time dynamic insertion of custom textures into games allowing you to change the game graphics without needing to modify the original APK.
- Unlocked view camera: via run-time gpu shader replacement, you can unlock the game view camera and freely move it around anywhere in the 3D game scene without moving your player character
See some screenshots of the free-camera feature in the DeadTrigger zombie shooter game, as well as screenshots of various graphics mods done in Clash of Clans, SubwaySurf, AngryBirds Star Wars, etc on our website www_mantamod_com or our twitter / facebook pages
Cheers
The MantaMod Team
sounds interesting. Especially the texture replacement feature would be amazing to make HD texture packs for some games.
Also, is there any way to squeeze some more performance out of the Tegra 3 like lowering the resolution ?
Yep we actually already have the resolution change as one of the internal features, we can expose that via the web control UI for end-users if you're interested.
Let us know if there's a specific game you're interested to try this out with, we'll be glad to do up an interceptor driver for that game.
Cheers

How does it run emulators?

So this device apparently starts shipping tomorrow right? When it does can someone please download some emulators and try them out? I would like to especially see the performance of PPSSPP, the PSP emulator. I would be eternally grateful to you. If you have access to various Bluetooth controllers I would like to hear about the compatibility of those as well if possible
Yes, If this product can smoothly run some of the games I have downloaded, then I should be picking one up. I'm sure it going to be hard to download games with such limted storage, but hopefully someone can showcase some quality android titles. It basically has OUYA specs; however, with a more powerful CPU. I want to buy one, as it would be my first Nexus product. Some cool titles I would want to see runnig: MC5, GT racing as Asphalt 8 I've seen, and Need For Speed Most Wanted.
As a regard to emulators, It has 8gb of storage, good luck!

Yeah, definitely. It outscores the GeForce ULP in the Tegra 3 by 2x-10x depending on the benchmark, and specifically handles the higher resolution (like the 1080p at which these devices tend to run) much better. Given the fact that even the Ouya was able to emulate up through the N64 reasonably well I think that the Nexus Player will make a great emulation device.

Oh man, thanks for the reply. I was looking to emulate PSP games more than anything but I guess up to N64 and maybe Dreamcast is fine as well.
I use my N64 and SNES emulators and they work great!! It runs better than my Xbox one which sucks at most things.
Here are some pictures of it on my TV using Super GNES and Mupen64
The pictures I took aren't the best but it runs great. You can map the buttons on the gamepad however you want which makes it great and my wife loves it

how many controllers does the adapter support at one time?
I'm using the PCE.emu and Neo.emu and they work fine. Only thing that makes me crazy is that sideloaded apps are too large for the TV display, some menu options are difficult to read. Does anybody know if there is a way to adjust the resolution for sideloaded apps so they fit the TV screen properly?

The listing on Amazon says that it supports up to 4 controllers with the 'direct input' mode, however I tried using the direct input mode and it seemed to not want to use the d pad and all of the buttons performed the same action. Using 'xinput' (I think this just emulates the Xbox controller input) everything mapped perfectly and all was well, the bad news is that it can only do 1 controller at a time using this method, so you'd need 1 usb adapter per controller. Also I have only 1 Wii U Pro controller so I don't have any way to test if multiple controllers even work with the direct input mode, it's worked perfectly with 'xinput' so I haven't moved it from there.
Its hard to see there but on the side there's a toggle switch that lets you pick between 'dinput' and 'xinput'.
How does one install the emulator? Do I need to do this over adb ? If so, how can I download an apk from the play store?
I can't get Super GNES to work. I install it and it says there is a new version on the play store and for me to download it. Well I downloaded it from the play store so I don't see how its not the newest version. Where are you getting your version of Super GNES?

If the app you want to "sideload" is in the normal Play store, all you have to do is load up the Play store on your computer then click install and select your Nexus Player as the device. That simple. You'll also want to install Chainfire's Sideload Launcher app from the Play store as well, as that makes accessing non-android tv optimized apps easier:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.tv.sideloadlauncher&hl=en
If you have an apk you'd rather install manually, you'll have to use adb and an a cable or use ES File Explorer (or equivalent) to transfer the apk from your computer/etc over wifi. There are already a few topics in these threads that discuss how.

I got the same error with the (non-free) non-lite version of GNES. Tried the (free) lite version and that works fine (version 1.5.4). I'm not too experienced with sideloading, but perhaps the non-free nature of the full version of SuperGNES is the issue? The free version sucks though, since you can't load saved states, so it seems I can't continue my progress even though the ROM in question has save functionality.
Just wanted to share my experiences so far, since this is one of the bigger reasons I bought the NP. I've managed to load NES.emu, 2600.emu, MAME4Droid (0.37b5), and Mupen64 AE so far.
Installing apps:
Like many have suggested, I was able to load a couple of apps like ES Explorer and NES.emu through the Google Play web site and selecting the NP as the installation target. However, MAME and a couple of other apps would not install this way, so I have to sideload Aptoide and use that to install the remaining apps. Note that since no web browser is available, I had to use another tablet to identify the stores where apps could be found, and add them manually before selecting apps and installing them.
Navigation:
For the most part, the remote suffices, but it's not perfect. I installed ChainFire's Sideload Launcher, as only NES.emu shows up in my apps menu on the home screen. However, I happened to own a Nyko Playpad (not the Pro) from a while ago that I never really used. While I can't recommend it as a great gaming controller, it does have one key feature that turns it from run-of-the-mill control pad to ultimate NP utility. It contains a switch that allows you to switch between HID, iCade, Mouse, and App modes. It's the Mouse setting that makes this controller truly useful, because without it, I couldn't navigate around MAME to set up my control pad, or navigate around Mupen64 to quit out of a game (how else are people achieving this? Just quitting out?) Basically, to really set up many of the emus properly, you need some kind of mouse input, so it's nice that I can switch the Playpad back and forth between HID and Mouse modes as needed.
Performance:
Obviously, NES.emu and 2600.emu are not really demanding, so they work "flawlessly" (as in, any problems are due to the emulators, not the NP.) I also chose the smaller MAME, and nothing in there really pushes the system too hard. Street Fighter II Turbo ran as fast as expected. The only really challenge to the system was Mupen64. I'm happy to say that it ran everything that it was capable of running at full frame rate, and the only hiccups were related to the emulator itself. It successfully ran Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, and Mischief Makers. It could not Blast Corps or Bomberman 64.
All in all, I can say that things work well, provided you have the right equipment. For me, the mode switch feature of the Nyko Playpad is indispensable, although if you have a bluetooth enabled mouse device, that will suffice. Things can only get better. I haven't tried PPSSPP yet, but that will be my next test.
Thank you so much sjj.
