Hi, you should download and run View attachment SPCUtility.apk.
And push read button.
Checked on Sprint Moto X with KitKat 4.4
Working on UnRooted and Rooted devices. :good:
So you all must know that with 4.4.4 this APK doesn't work.
What you need:
1) Unlock bootloader via link;
2) Install TWRP(Google);
3) Download 4.4.2 (ROM only) via link and install via TWRP;
4) Download 4.4.2 (Firmware) via link;

Took me a minute to find it after I installed it. I was looking for an app named SPC-something-or-other instead of 'MSL Utility', which is how it shows up in my app drawer.
Looks like it worked on my unrooted XT1049 (Republic Wireless) running 4.2.2:
I 'dialed' ##3424#, tapped the rollover/menu feature in the Diag Setting window that came up, selected 'Edit', put in my 6 digit code when prompted for it and can now enable or disable the Diag Port with no more prompting for the code.
What exactly is the Diag Port for?

Hm on my Moto X it let me enable and disable it without entering any codes. What exactly do you do to switch carriers? If you change this will a new sim work even without being "unlocked" by sprint?

This tweak is not SimUnlock and if you have Sprint Moto X (XT1056) you cant use GSM on it. It helps to write parametrs for another CDMA carrier, some one like MetroPCS or other one.

It is a Sprint SIM ; my carrier is a Sprint MVNO. But my ROM is likely to be slightly different too because of the different features that Republic Wireless has.
Your phone's diag port may be already unlocked or that part of the ROM may not be exposed in the version that runs on your model.
What happened when you dialed the DIAG code? Did you go to the diagnostics screen? Did you use the rollover/help menu to see if it would allow you to edit? Were you able to change the status of the diag port?

when i ran the app i got everything you mentioned i already know my mls code i got it from sprint a long time ago and when i ran the app it showed me the mls code i have already. i did the diag port ive switched from t mobile to sprint SIM cards but no prompt. one thing i even tried i did ##MLSCODE (the mls code you have for your phone)# this will bring up a screen with two numbers the one on the first line isnt your cell number but the second line is i even changed the number on the first line still nothing....
I haven't tried getting into the Service Programming section of settings before except by using the ##786# dialing code. And that code exposes a somewhat different group of settings than the ##MSLCODE# sequence does.
On top of that because Republic Wireless is a hybrid WiFi/cell carrier neither one of those two is my actual phone number like it would be for most folks. The Mobile Directory Number is a Sprint number that is used to route calls to my phone when I am not doing a SIP call on WiFi.
Are you trying to activate service on T-Mo with a new SIM? If so you may need to change your Mobile Identification Number as well as your MDN or have T-Mo update their system with your current MIN so that the MIN/MDN pair will work correctly.
But I don't know that for sure so try contacting them or maybe someone here will have some actual info on this instead of vaguely recalled stuff from some time in the past. o_0
Works fine on my XT1056 (4.4.2), tried enabling diag port, that works. *dreaming* If that could help us unlock SIM...
Says "connection problem or invalid MMI code" =(( ATT XT1058 (SIM-unlocked by me)
btw, experienced that with any codes entered regardless the format ##code#, *#*#code#*#*. i suspect ATT somehow locked the possibility to enter codes, so does anyone know how to bypass that restriction or take it off completely?
Can I use this to SIM unlock my Sprint Moto X?

Is there some way to determine the camera firmware other than entering a code into the stock dialer?
Verizon Galaxy s3. Had rooted & installed CM10 but having the "Can't Connect" to camera issue. Seems like this is a firmware issue? But first step per below is to enter a programming code to determine the camera fw version. Only problem is these codes are not working on my phone. I suspect its in a issue with this version of the phone or firmware where they may have changed the codes? Is there another code I can try or another way to find out camera fw?
I flashed back to stock ROM but the code does nothing when hitting dial after entering it, just says your call cannot be completed....etc..

I've been using a n9005 bought unlocked in europe (Romainia) in Asia. I had my local service provide me with a new 4g sim. And they helped me connect to 4g using a 3rd party app from appstore to toggle 4g. (Viaero 4G Toggle)
Since the latest Samsung update i am unable to use the app -- and have no way to toggle the same. How can i enable 4g? shall i flash a different region rom? Of shall i change CSC? (tried once it never worked!) I am on XXUMDJ7.
If i should try a different rom or CSC which one?
Any help is appreciated (googled but couldn't find much useful.)
Not clear what you are reporting/asking.
It seems that you did have an N9005 (region-locked for EU but not carrier-locked) and you were using it somewhere in Asia (where?) with a local SIM that was working. Now you had the MJ7 update and the local SIM is no longer working - at all or just the LTE part? Do you still have the original SIM that you first used when you started your N9005 (or any SIM from EU)? Does that one work? (but be careful with mobile data since roaming costs on that can be ugly).
I also assume you are not rooted and never had RegionLockAway.
Just the LTE part. It was never on tbe connection options menu. I used d toggle app to enable it. New updates killed the app .
I dont mind rooting. Dont care abt d warrenty. No. Never needed unlock away..

What do you have listed under Acess Point Names (APNs)? (you might need to manually add a custom entry there, you don't need root for that on unlocked phones but you need a lot of settings from your local carrier).
Also around the same menu there is a setting where you can select LTE(4G)/WCDMA(3G)/GSM(2G) modes (4G can be kind of a battery killer, with 3G sometimes close second battery killer).
I don't have that option on settings. The app i used was a work arround.
I'm wondering which rom / csc will enable it?

Hi, I feel your pain and know exactly what you are talking about.
Samsung have a special file where they define which carrier codes are allowed to have LTE.
You need root and you have to add your carrier to the following file "lteon_netlist.xml" that is located in /system/csc/common/etc.
Study that file, make a backup and add your carrier there, reboot and the LTE option will show together with 2G and 3G
Enjoy!

Thank you. You are a genius! I had to do a CSC change to make that show up after changing the file. (It didn't get picked up on reboot.)
Before your reply, I'd looked over the CSC folder through XMLs -- but focused on the individual CSCs! wasted a good few hours digging up online and playing with Odin too.
Thanks again -- I am sure many will have this issue when they travel. Or, like me they would want to pick a European phone coz Samsung in some Asian markets don't offer LTE models (even though in Colombo and in this country, there is LTE all major urban/suburban areas!)
If someone else is looking this is what they need to modify. (on lteon_netlist.xml"located in /system/csc/common/etc)... create a new entry/ies - you need to put your network numeric code -- which an online search will get you, and the name and the country. like what i did, below!
<whiteLists numeric="41301" ltestate="PS/CSFB" operator="Mobitel" country="Sri Lanka" defaultMode="GWL"/>
<whiteLists numeric="41302" ltestate="PS/CSFB" operator="DIALOG" country="Sri Lanka" defaultMode="GWL"/>
And i can't believe that samsung cant just add all LTE enabled networks by default. They make top of the class HW, but the decision making is abysmal! Can't wait to get my hands on Cyanogen!

How did you do a CSC change? I have similar issues(bought HK 9005 and using in new zealand) and changing the common/etc/lte_netlist.xml does not work for me. I even tried to flash a local CSC which made the phone look like a branded phone but still no lte option by default.
My alternative solution is to modify the /data/propert/persist.radio.lteon file after rooting.

It didn't work for me either, until i changed the CSC code for the phone -- apply any available - I am on BTU. The settings get applied once you do that only. Try CSC changer app by Manniakk from google play!
Of course that resets your phone -- so you might wanna back up your data!
Have you tried dialing *#2263#?
If yours is sm-n9005, you should be able to choose lte/wcdma/gsm band manually.

Same Issue with LTE in Colombo
Without altering the CSC and rooting is there a way to enable LTE by flashing a supporting ROM from a supporting region.
Mine was purchased in Malaysia (n9005) and already tried BTU but nothing.
AP is changed to N9005XXUDMK2
CP is the same which is N9005XXUDMJ7
CSC is changed to N9005OXADMK2
When i go to Settings - About Phone
Baseband is still N9005XXUDMJ7 and not changed.
Have i done anything wrong here. And the weird issue is i have nothing, Not even the standard 3G or HSPA+ service. NO DATA at all.
Please guys need help as im a noob

By modifying the "\system\csc\common\system\etc\lteon_netlist.xml" file, you should also modify the file "\system\csc\BTU\system\csc\contents.db" to reflect the change of the size of the the file lteon_netlist.xml.
To do that, open contents.db file by using Hex Editor, search for "lteon_netlist.xml", you will see this string will follow by 2 bytes, e.g 34 85. This is the size of the file lteon_netlist.xml (in HexaDecimal. In Decimal it will be 13,445). Now see what is the size of your new lteon_netlist.xml file, convert it to HexaDecimal, and then put it in the place right after "lteon_netlist.xml" string.
For example, if your new lteon_netlist.xml file has a new size 14,525 (in bytes). This value will be 38 BD in HexaDecimal. Then put this value in the contents.db file, right after "lteon_netlist.xml" string.
Sorry for my poor english
Ok now I know you can edit the LTE file but this doesn't resolve the basebands the N9005 reads right?

If you input that code in the dialer (correctly) it should take you to a screen called "Testing". If it doesn't then there is something wrong with your phone. This works on pretty much all phones.
@GDReaper: The Galaxy S4 does not recognize that particular version of the USSD code. It can be run however through the Phone Info app.
@khsh97: Please post the following information:
1. Model Number
2. Android Version, found by going to Settings > More > About device.
3. Firmware Version (AP, CP, CSC), found by dialing *#1234# in the dialer or by installing Phone Info from the Play Store and running it.
4. Service Provider
5. Country
6. Is the phone rooted? (Yes/No)
7. Is a custom ROM installed? (Yes/No, and the name of the ROM)
Before using GDReaper's suggested method, post the information requested, so that we can eliminate other possibilities for why you don't have a LTE option.

I ran the code before posting and it worked on my S4. However, am running the gpe rom. Maybe that's why it actually worked
That is probable, as I'm running a rooted and debloated Touchwiz and it didn't work. But as mentioned, the Phone Info app is another way to get there.
Sorry for late reply!
Model No: GT-I9505
Android version: 4.4.2
Firmware: I9505XXUGNE8(official stock)
AP: I9505XXUGNE8
CP: I9505VFGGNE8
CSC: I9505VFGGNE2
My phone is rooted with towelroot however the option was missing before root as well.
BTW, I don't have LTE sim, does that matter?
If that matter then how can I check without LTE sim?
And yeah, the code *#*#4636#*#* is not working in my galaxy s4.
I am going to check out phone info app.
If you don't have a LTE SIM, you won't have LTE as an option. Upgrade your SIM to a LTE version and you should then be able to select LTE.

Ok, thank you...!!!
By the way, why the code is not working on official touchwiz roms?
Ask Samsung that question, but don't expect an answer. There could be a multitude of reasons why Samsung disabled it, but unless they pony up a response we'll never know.
Lol, Nice answer!!! Anyway phone info app can do it so why we should argue with samsung for disabling that code.
I think you must have firmware based on your country to have LTE. Now I'm downloading 4.4.2 for my country and I'll keep you posted
@velizarcho123: And you'd be wrong. LTE depends on two things: having a LTE-compatible SIM and having the proper frequencies in the radio chip to pick up LTE service. Assuming the device is neither region nor SIM locked, the moment you put in a LTE SIM Android will load the APN for the carrier into Settings. LTE should then work immediately. If it doesn't, the APN can be modified in most devices so it does work.
That said, if possible, using the firmware from your home region is the smartest idea, as Samsung does modify the firmware a bit, usually by removing languages other than those spoken in the region.

All firmwares have LTE, I does a trick - rooted my phone and modified a system file that enables LTE in the network menu. This is stupid Samsung restriction.

Reread my post. You were able to modify the firmware, but that modification would not have worked if the SIM wasn't capable of LTE and the radio chip didn't support the frequencies used.
EDIT: Just to clarify, Samsung modifying firmware to remove the option to use LTE does not mean the firmware doesn't support LTE. Clearly it has to support LTE if your modification worked. This means that firmware is eliminated as a variable, leaving the two remaining variables as the SIM and the radio chip.
Long time reader and tinkerer, but first time poster... This is a two-part thread:
I picked up a cheap used Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, hoping to unlock it and use it. When I received it, it was a SM-S975L, which I can barely find any information on:
Model number: SM-S975L
Baseband version: S975LUDUANB1
Kernel version: 3.4.0-2485535 [email protected] #1 Tue Feb 4 17:57:30 KST 2014
Build number: JSS15J.S975LUDUANB1
SE for Android status: SEPF_SM-S975L_4.3_0017
Product code: SM-S975LZKATFN
Current firmware on my phone: www DOT sammobile DOT com/firmwares/3/?download=28755
Part 1: Custom ROM.
I want to use a Google Edition ROM instead of the bloatware that comes on carrier devices. I'm unable to find a recovery for the SM-S975L, much less a custom ROM though. Is anyone out there that would entertain the idea?
PARt 2: SIM Unlock.
With my sim in the phone, a SIM Unlock code screen doesn't pop up on its own. I typed #7465625*638*# into the dialer and it did finally appear. I was able to successfully sim-unlock it once. But after a phone reboot, the phone was re-locked and the sim unlock code I previously used no longer works. Has anyone ever had this happen? I would like a permanent solution to sim-unlock.
Thanks!
Hi jeredh....I have the same questions as I just ordered this model. Have you solved or tried out anything on your 2 questions?

I wound up selling it and changing to an S5 Active. No luck at all finding anyone or anything for that phone.
Another purchaser of the S975L here. Thought $249 was a great deal for this phone, but got home and realized that it's actually a really locked down phone. No permanent way to unlock it (unless you own it for a year in which case Tracfone will unlock it), bootloader is locked, no one has developed a custom ROM for it, and the complete tethering framework has been removed (so not even rooted tethering apps will work). It's a good bet that Straight Talk will never update the firmware on it either. That last one is a huge bummer because Android 4.3 is *okay* for now, but KitKat has been out for a while, and Lollipop will be ported very soon. It's fantastic hardware gimped by awful software. A shame really. I'll probably hang on to this phone for a little while since it's a definite improvement over my old iPhone 4S, but I'd like to move to something I have a little more control over.
The only solace I have is that it's easily rootable using TowelRoot.
Follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/help/how-to-unlock-galaxy-s4-straighttalk-sm-t2816029 aromerblz is making nice progress. Twrp can be installed just fine. Read the thread

Thanks!

If you have the unlock code and root, then follow this.
1. install samsung phone info tools from the market. Run it and allow super user access on it.
2. Press menu and go to secret codes, and let it load.
3. Once generated scroll until you find 7465625*638* you should see two. One that says unlock and other says lock.
4. Select the one that says lock. Press it and select "launch 0" on MCC/MNC field enter your carriers MCC/MNC code.(google it if you dnt know it) on the Control Key enter unlock code. Press ok.
5. Select the 7465625*638* that has unlock on it, press launch 0, enter unlock code. Press ok.
6. Hit thanks, device should be unlock with no neet to reboot.
**You need to do this everytime you turn off, turn on, or restart the phone.
Question: Wondering how you got the unlock code?
WAITING
Hello,
I will follow the question, how did you manage to get a code?
I really want to at least unlock my phone to use it,
I know aromerblz is going to make a guide, I have to wait and try it, I am really not having idea what to do to make it work
NO UNLOCK CODE for Permanent Unlock!
.
An UNLOCK CODE for this phone only TEMPORARILY unlocks it.. everytime you power off and phone on OR restart it then it will ask for the code again.. This phone is very well programmed and cannot be permanently unlocked. This is a Straighttalk phone.. its not meant for other carriers.. if you bought this thinking you were getting a deal you were probably wrong.
network unlock
if I purchase a code from a third party and I enter it everytime I reboot does it work on the other network everytime ?
Sm-s975l unlock info
This model is permanatly unlockable through Straighttalk after a 1yr of active service ( If you are late adding time & if your phone deactivates, you must begin the 1yr requirement from the begining )
But good News there are 2 compatible Models of the S4 you can use to Customize your SM-S975L.
Most ROMS are compatible. You will need to have your Device "ROOTED" with Custom Recover Software.
Just my advice use TWRP as Cmod tends to Brick Devices " Just from Personal Experience "

The Most Compatible ROM for the SM-S975L was Created by a Very Talented Developer "The Sickness"
Download V11 4.4.2 & the Mod File. Now Boot into Recovery Flash the Rom 1st following the instructions provided on the download page allow the 1st boot up to complete. Name your phone & all that other fun setup info Stuff. Then reboot into Recovery, & do a advance wipe on Cache & Delvic lol & you can now flash the MOD pack, I recommend choosing the Ktweaker OC Kernel by Ktoonz you can pplay around with the other Mods but be warned the S5 Mods Tend to cause device errors with settings/menu/&keyboard. This rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2683507
DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THE INSANE HYBRID 4.4.4 ROM UPGRADE IS BETTER ITS NOT THAT ROM IS BLOATED AND SLOW AS DIRT
There aren many ROMs to choose from icecream sanwich to marshmellow But none as good as "Sickness's" INSANE KITKAT Versions Vary but the Only Rom that comes even Close is SPIKE LABS 4.4.4 GAMING ROM with kernel juicer but its still a bit jittery at times when the GPU is pushed & games are Drawing Heavily On Your Device..
As far as the Baseband is concerned you can remove it and attempt to upgrade it Via ABD pull & push. " Aquire ABD & fastboot files & launch CMD W/ADMIN RIGHTS" & it is possible to use ABD CMDs to remove & apply another Basebamd but this could super brick your Device if it is not unlocked.
Hope this Helps Lot Peeps

I was in the same boat, had an unlock code, it worked one time then after a reboot it would not accept the unlock code. I happened upon this post (while I was searching for the stock ROM to reload on it), and decided "what the hell let me try these steps"....it works. I don't mind going through these steps on each reboot. Infact I made it a bit easier, I installed Shortcut Master (Lite) and made two short cuts, one for the lock and one for the unlock.
Thank you for posting these steps.

Though I do have a question. Are there any ROMs out there that are based on Android 5.x that will work with this? I tried flashing Cyangenmod but the "secret" codes needed don't seem to work at all, infact Phone Info only shows like 12 or 13 codes.

Yes there is.. Any TW based ROM for the SGH-M919 or GT-I9505 works for this phone. CM, AICP or ASOP ROM's do not work as they lack the perso codes for unlock.

Clarification, they do work if you live in the USA as you will still use with TracFone service. But to uses on another carrier you need the unlock code and a TW based custom ROM. Where you got your code?

I got my code from imei-unlocker.com
Like I mentioned in my original reply, the code worked once then after a reboot it was locked and the code was not working. But with the steps that was posted, I am able to use my T-Mobile SIM and just go through them steps after each reboot.
Oh and the best part, the site actually refunded my money cause I was working with them as to why the code stopped working.

Straight Talk SM-S975S unlock
This phone is unlockable by design. The only way Straight Talk gets around the" unlock law " is they offer you a credit towards another phone, my offer was $100. I have a friend that works for Samsung and he researched it at work, talked to the tech's and was
told Straight Talk ordered the phones this way to stop people from buying their cheap phones then switching companies.
hi there!
i have a yotaphone 2 china edition flashed with europe-firmware lollipop and cn-drivers.
however, i use a MVNO and have a permanent roaming icon in the status bar. i want to get rid of it, because i do not want to have data roaming enabled all the time. i am often in the near of germany, so i must disable data roaming there, wereas at home i have to enable it. this does not make me happy.
my MVNO is bob, the used network is A1 in Austria.
my phone is rooted and therefore i tried to edit the file /system/etc/spn-conf.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<spnOverrides>
<spnOverride numeric="23211" fake_home_on="23201"/>
</spnOverrides>
like i found on some tutorials on the web. but, i had to create the file, it was not present before. and it also does not work (23201 is A1, 23211 is bob). what did i miss? does the yota-software not uses this spn-conf.xml?
