Since I tried to install The MIDteam's 1.4.2 Update 3 BETA 3, my Galaxy Note has been getting really hot even when I just open the Play Store for 5 minutes...
I'm now back on CheckRom HD the latest version and the only kernel I can get into deep sleep with is the AbyssNote kernel. My problem is that my phone goes straight from deep sleep to 1.2 or 1.4 GHz so if it has happened to anyone please help me !!! I've tried flashing every single rom but none of them do the trick and it's always super laggy.
also, I don't know if there's a link but whenever I try wiping everything from recovery it won't wipe .androidsecure and my external sd card is shown in the recovery menu but not the zip files on it.
Thank you in advance !
Have you tried other kernels? Are you using CPU Spy to see what state your CPU is in most of the time? The problems your describing isn't a rom issue, its a kernel issue.
Your phone will run hot from time to time. Mine does too. If something wasn't right I'm sure you would be getting a ton of FC`s and random reboots.
Im currently running KindDroid and SpeedMod kernel with no issues. Gets warm but nothing out of the ordinary.

Not a modem problem I've tried every single one you can find on CheckRom Kitchen app !
Also consider BetterBatteryStats from the Play store. It will give you a better idea if your getting any wakelock problems as well.
My phone last night got stuck on 1.4Ghz from 12am till I woke up (6:00am). It was warm but nothing different then normal use. I found out by setting my alarm clock somehow caused the phone to get stuck and not sleep. Almost like I changed the governor to performance (which I didn't lol)
Such is why I'm on speed mod now. Phone can sleep now and almost zero lag

Yikes. Let me know. Had a similar issue with a Skyrocket a month ago. Ended up getting to the point that I couldn't even connect the phone to USB anymore. It would only charge. Even Odin couldn't see it. Turned out being a hardware issue with the phone.

Actually try this. Go to SuperUser, tap on the top right icon (wrench), go to the bottom list and look for check SU binary (underneath says check for update). Check for update, install update and done.
Hope that helps.

[FiX] Galaxy Note ICS OVERHEATING PROBLEM SOLVED
[FiX] Galaxy Note ICS OVERHEATING PROBLEM SOLVED:
1 Go to settings- developer options - UNCHECK "Dont keep activities"
2 Use go launcher ex (or some other good launcher...) instead of default launcher
3 Instal from google play android assistant and use it to clean cache and stop most of background process
4 install from google play "cpu master free" (MUST HAVE ROOTED PHONE) and set 1000 MHz for MAXIMUM, and check box "set on boot"
5 Turn off gps, bluetooth, sinc, WiFi, Packet Data and all other stuff that you dont use at moment...
P.S. DO NOT expect that your phone will be cold as ice after you do this...
ICS is build that you can use max. out of dual core, and galaxy note is pretty slim and back is made out of plastic...All that increase heating problem...
Hope i helped! =D
link
The OMAP4 Cortex A9 platform specification shows that its operating temperature is 40° to 85° C (104° to 185° F). Then why the Galaxy Note overheats but other phones do not? It is very thin so you are holding your hands very close to processor and you feel heat.
There is nothing you can do about the Galaxy Note overheating and you have to live with it. If you don’t use it for gaming or videos you won’t notice heat. If your Galaxy Note gets warm while you are using it only few minutes without pushing it to limits then it could be some other issue with your device.
As long as you can’t fry eggs on the Galaxy Note, it doesn’t melt, and you can still hold it in your hands its absolutely normal. So it’s not a big deal and there is no fix for it unless you want to stop playing games and watching videos.
battery manufacturers say this ...
Notice:
1. Do not remove battery at will charging.
2. Do not place the battery stored in more than 45 ° C high temperature environm-ent or in fire, otherwise it may cause the battery explosion.
3. Don't exert external force to the battery or rendered from falling.
4. Do not place the battery with conductor such as key, coins, etc, to avoid short-Circuit.
5. Do not let battery be moist or put it in water.
6. Suggest choosing original charger or performance reliable charger for charging.
if you live at a place where the environmental temperature reaches 43° C then overheating of your note is natural.. lol

Hello Friends,
I wish to gather as much info as we can about the I9500 that are heating......because I was informed by someone at samsung that the devices manufactured after june have a revised PCB....which eliminates the overheating and battery problem.......I got my I9500 on 14th aug but in Antutu it was reching 85 degrees hence I will be getting a replacement tomorow....
Please use *#2222# to find out the HW Version : The defected ones (I assume not confirmed yet) are REV 0.6 because my friend has the same rev and his phone heats up as well........So if we succeed in getting more and more details we can go to samsung svc and ask them to atleast replace the motherboard....Cheers......
Heres What we need
Date Purchased :
Date Manufactured on the box :
HW Ver :
How hot does it get :
Does the heating affect battery life :
I dunno about 9500, but i am using 9505 and it was hot when i got it.
Ever since i switch to this kernel with proper undervolt, it doesn't run hot anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284252
Maybe ask the guy if he have a port for 9500
Use wheatley governor (huge improvement to reduce heat since it doesn't bump all the way to max cpu all the time).
My battery life nearly doubled, can last 15-20 hours easy depending on usage.

Hi. mine is REV 0.6 and i bought it on June 12th. when i first got it it heated for no reason after 5 minutes of light use, but i never checked the degree. but after an ota update. the issue is gone and at most extreme conditions it reaches 70-73 degrees.
That's great let's see what happens after I get the replacement

honestly, if your problem is only the heat, i am pretty sure a better cpu governor would solve your issue. lets face it, these phone will get hot, running close to 2ghz, quad cores with NO active cooling... even my desktop cpu gets around 45c with liquid cooling man...
i am sure the temperature is an issue using all existing governor (except if you use powersaver or conservative, but is slow), but the wheatley does a good job keeping the phone smooth despite staying at the lower end of the cpu speed as much as possible..
i got my S4, eventhough we have triangle away, i never planned to return it anyway, i'd just deal with the heat problem, in fact, at the beginning before i even discover the new kernel, i just manually reduce the max cpu speed to 1.6Ghz, and that solved the heat problem.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to explain things.....now the issue i have is i can manage normal heat or for that matter heat which is above avg as well...the only scary part is my phone reaches 85 degrees most of the time.....it doesnt behave like an octa core.....its just like a a15 quad core and the heat is very very high......

As I have a I9500 if I root the device my warranty will be gone as samsung people will reject the same because i rooted it.....also on the stock rom I am getting less than 3 hes of screen on time......hence requested for replacement....as I do not have the option of rooting the device till triangle away is available for I9500.....

Rev 0.6 here. Spectacular battery life 5-6 hours screen time. Overheat issue is "almost" gone for me. Atleast the heat is not enough to bother me while browsing and general use. Heavy gaming makes the phone quite hot though, out of the comfort zone of placing the top of the phone in your hand.
Purchased my S4 in June. Had horrible overheat issues, hickups, restarts, battery level suddenly jumping to low followed by a restart.
Every single one of this issue got solved by the firmware update. Latest MG5 (Indian). So please update to this one if you haven't already (Flash it) and report your temp, general battery life etc with us.

Yup Been MG5 since Day 1 and have done multiple factory resets still the temperature issue exists even the svc confirmed that the heating I have is a hardware issue,,,,,
*********If anyone from india recently bought the S4 they have a offer going on wherein 1 screen replacement will be done for free by samsung till the device is under warranty you can call samsung cust care and give them your purchase date they will confirm if the device is eligible for a free screen replacement!!!!! So for me no more screen guards needed,.....
I am running MG5 (Indian) firmware stock, no root, hw rev 0.6. I did some measurements today with cool tools
Ambient temp : 29°C
Idle processor temp: 37°C
Light task processor temp: 43-50°C
Web browsing heavy pages: 45-60°C
Playing sonic 4 ep1 : 59-67°C
Antutu processor temp: 70-92°C
Antutu score: 27.896
Pretty standard temp behaviour I guess. The overheating in my phone seems to be the inevitable one that comes with such a powerful (and unfinished) processor.
If someone gets a new hw rev we could compare at a given conditions (ambient temperature, apps running etc..). It might not be very representative, but it could be fun.

Rev0.6
Bought last June 14..
No "overheat issue."
Heavy gaming makes phone hot but not to the point of overheating. Also after flashing a new rom it gets hot on first reboot (just wait for the rom to settle)
Every smartphone gets hot in a certain situation and thats pretty normal..

Best battery stats of my s4
Got 2x 7 houra screen time
But usually my usage is between 5.5 hours to 6.5hours screen time
I think you really got a bad device and not a batch defect. Good thing they will replace it for a new one.
I suggest update your device yo latest firmware or root and install custom rom and kernel.
Eventhough we have less available rom and kernel for now, the good thing is that they are all very nice and devs are great.
Everytime i run same thing happens after 31% when check cpu float. What to do? Is this my device fault? Otherwise i can run games smoothly. My phone also do not have over heating problem. I reset my mobile also. What to do?

I think is a bad battery problem.
That happened to me on Galaxy S4. After changing battery, Antutu runs without problems
My Galaxy S4 was one week old then
Did you happend to overclock your gpu? Or maybe had a custom rom and dont know whats moded? This shouldnt be happening, ive ran antutu with the latest update a few days ago without issues

Guys this is not a software problem... who so ever is facing this issue please read below post of mine;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58094575&postcount=1852
I am from Pakistan and have Note 4 SM-N910C Exynos version and faced issues only in bench marking followed by phone restarting. I did everything flashed new software and tested all but only warranty replacement that I recently got resolved my issue. Finally have a good working Note 4 Exynos version
As per my understanding of the issue and long troubleshooting that I conducted, it is a CPU fault. CPU when reaches highest frequencies in multi-core/multi-threaded tasks, it freezes the phone and device restarts as a security measure. This issue will be seen only in benchmarks and not even gaming will reveal this issue as gaming even does not fully utilizes the Note 4's cpu potential
Hello everyone, I recently purchased a new note 4 St N910C. Just after a day of usage I felt that it is getting hot when I play games on it. I closed all the background apps even resetted it but still no luck. My phone is getting heated up near the camera area. My question is that is this a hardware issue or a software one, because if it is a hardware issue I should try and get it replaced, if a software one I should better wait for a lollipop update.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks

Well i bought this unit after along study of whether to get the exynos version or the snapdragon version, in my opinion I found the exynos to be better because many users suggested that this version does not heat up and works better, but now as I'm using it personally I think it heats up alot, the temperature I get is around 36-38 degrees.

Galaxy Note 4 heating [camera]
I purchased Galaxy Note 4 [SM-N910G] a week back. It's on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat)
I am having a different problem for which I could not find any satisfying solution on the Internet. Whenever I open camera app, the phone starts heating up near camera & battery also drains very quickly [around 2% under 5 min.]
I know that the phone will heat up a little bit when playing high graphics games, but I don't think it should heat up too much when using camera app.
I have already factory reset [both soft & hard reset] the phone, but still it does not help. I contacted Samsung support, & they told me to 'Reset app preferences' from Application manger, but still the device heats up when using camera app.
I also cleared data of the camera app, but still the issue remains
The phone does not heat up at all on standby mode, but opening camera app raises it's temperature more than it should. Previously a Note 2 user, this problem was not there.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue on Note 4 ? Any ideas on this ?
The phone heats up only if you're recording 4k or 2k video. If you use camera generally & your device heats up.You must get your device checked

You can factory reset all day, it won't help. Thats not a problem, the camera just uses a lot of processor power and thus generates heat. You can't change that, you have to live with it

I wanna replace it because of the overheating I can't something even hold it I put is always in freezer to cold it

Sorry, but do you have any idea about CPU temperatures? 60 isn't bad. 40 isn't bad. 30 isn't bad. Even 70° and occasionally 79° would be acceptable. Don't put your phone into the freezer, ity not good to freeze the hardware.. Especially if you literally have no problem. The CPU is prone to temperature fluctuations and your values are fully normal in the world of CPUs. There is no best value, everything up to 70° is the normal temperature variation. Your phone doesn't have a problem, its perfectly fine.
Mine actually heats up while charging and using at same time. Clean master shows 70-75°C cpu temperature while using browser and stuff but 80+ while gaming, that's not normal right? I'm worried cuz I always used my old phones while charging and they never got this hot, I feel like it will melt someday :/ In what temperatures exynos operates?
I got my SM-N910F yesterday and installed LP 5.0.1 via OTA. Temperatures are 40+ when the phone isnt doing anything. While I did the Antutu Benchmark, it was around 50-52 degrees (Celsius). Feels much warmer than my previous Note 3 (which of course never had LP). And since i am not used to this temparature on my Note 3, i kinda worry about the temps right now. I read a lot that many have that problem since LP update. So whats normal and what would be too high for regular usage (not using Camera or playing Games) ? Is there an average i can go by and compare ?
And whats my alternatives now if I want lower temps , go back to 4.4.4 Stock Rom (currently have LP 5.0.1 Stock) or do I try a 5.x Custom ROM . Did the Custom ROMS fixed these heating problems or is that just something I have to live with ?
Thanks for any help.

My old G3 used to sit at 50 degrees idle!, 30 and 40 degrees is cool!!!!!!
Just do a Factory Reset (hard reset)
First backup everything & Google for detail instructions on hard reset.

Sure that makes all the difference ? I read a lot of posts from people saying that a factory reset didnt really solve their problems. Do you know for sure it will help ?

Hi guys,
I have purchased Note 4 recently and it seems to be heating in minimal tasks also like surfing the internet. i have flashed KITKAT, LOLLIPOP(default) and MARSHMALLOW but in all these firmwares the problem seemed to be consistent. Earlier i used snapdragon phone which was clocked at 2.3 GHZ and used to heat @ heavy games like No Limits, with recording on but this one is heating in angry birds itself. Though no lags are observed. I have not tried the Marshmallow version latest yet but some body told that latest update fixed heating issue. The root problem i see is its Processor clocked @ 2.7 GHZ, i mean this much we see in PC. I dont understand why they have gone so far. Now Samsung kernel must be clocked such way that on demand it bumps the frequency to max. This max i want to limit to 2 GHZ but without knocking down KNOX warranty. If some one has latest updated Marshmallow release and can confirm that it is indeed not heating please comment or tell me the solution to this problem, i really like this phone but hate when it heats. I am ok with slight lagging due to underclocking. i am willing to flash kernels with lower max frequency via ODIN. No custom recovery intended. Also i dont want to loose on warranty.
Thanks and Regards,
Really looking forward to solution

I have a Verizon Note 4. I did have heat issues with Lollipop. Since I installed Marshmallow and did a factory reset, it only gets warm with heavy use. Some app updates have had my Note 4 running warm, but a reset of the phone seems to fix it.

Seems like custom rom is the only option bro
The Snapdragon 805 SOC does have a bad habit of getting really hot when running heavy tasks.
Not only was my phone Hot for every second I used it but... Look at this amazing SOT.
I finally figured out how to keep Google play services from draining the battery: burn through your entire battery before it even has time to start up.
